Medical equipment and supplies are free to borrow. “We have walkers, wheelchairs, canes,” said Ickes. Some qualifying clients can also receive medication and transportation assistance. There is a complimentary wig salon and Kim’s Bra Boutique, where people who have had mastectomies are fitted for bras and prostheses. Clients can partake in yoga, seated strength, Zumba and tai chi classes
“I think sometimes people think we’re like a medical facility, until they come and see the building and see that we aren’t doing treatments or anything like that. It’s more like a home where you can visit,” said Robin Sue Ickes, program director at RiverBend Cancer Services. RiverBend Cancer Services, 3516 E. Jefferson Blvd., South Bend, is a nonprofit providing free services for those diagnosed with cancer and their caregivers.
