Each month, we highlight someone whose style we admire. If you know someone we should consider featuring, email ambouthot@the-papers.com. This month, it’s not a singular someone, but a collective someone: The homeowners in the historic Williams Woodland Park Neighborhood, located just south of Downtown Fort Wayne. Celebrated as Fort Wayne’s first planned neighborhood, Williams Woodland Park is known for its diversity, enchanting architecture, and history. The neighborhood’s beautiful and stately homes, built in another era, are nestled among magnificent trees and lovely landscaped yards and gardens. Best of all, they are a group of caring neighbors who still do “neighboring.” They live life together side by side. They know each other’s names, enjoy watching each other’s children play, and lend a hand when one is needed. On June 4, from 11am-4pm, the neighborhood will host PorchFest, featuring a dozen stages of live music, artists at work, storytellers, kids’ games, food trucks, and more. The entrance to

the fest is located at the intersection of Suttenfield and Webster. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for kids, and free for 5 and under. Make plans to attend and get an up-close look at these beautiful homes and their porches. Other Speakers and Performances: • Historians: Don Orban and Creager Smith from the Historic Preservation Committee of the City of Fort Wayne, Jim Sak of the local historian and member of the German Heritage Society, and Elizabeth Hodgens from the ACPL Genealogy Center and neighborhood resident. • Storytellers: Amy McCorkle, Katie Gerali, Courtney Pifer, and John Boerger • Puppeteer: Barney Thompson, a recipient of a Lilly endowment grant, where he traveled Europe to study puppetry.
