Sherry Binversie is a native Hoosier who, after a few years of meandering, returned to Indiana with her family where they’ve called Fort Wayne home since 2018. Although formally educated and trained as a music therapist, Sherry has set aside her clinical work for now to take part in the joys (and chaos!) of being a stay-at-home parent to her two little ones. You’ll often find her outdoors with her family or curled up with a forgotten knitting project on her lap. Her latest family escapades include traveling in an RV where she often forgets which state she’s waking up in. What are you currently reading?

There’s usually a stack in my reading basket and this time of year is no different. Current reads include “A Memory for Wonders” by Mother Veronica Namoyo Le Goulard, P.C.C. I have just started this for a book club, so I’m not making a call if I like it or not but can truthfully say that the style of writing is quite inviting to the reader. Also, “The Scalpel and the Silver Bear” by Lori Arviso Alvord, M.D. and Elizabeth Cohen Van Pelt. This is a reread of a book that I was introduced to while in college. It’s a compelling book about the first Navajo woman surgeon and how she navigated cultural and social differences in medicine, healing, and well-being.

With my kids, we have been reading aloud “Mary Poppins” by P.L. Travers. Now that we’ve entered the chapter book phase of reading with my oldest, it has certainly taken on a different sort of enjoyment as we have a bit more “meat” for discussions and questions on characters, plot, and so forth.

Is there a fictional land you would like to visit?

Port William, KY (a fictional place that serves as the setting for the fictional work of Wendell Berry). If we are splitting hairs here and an actual fictional land (as in, not even taking part of places we can remotely visit, such as the state of Kentucky), the lands created by J.R.R. Tolkien or C.S. Lewis.

Do you have favorite titles to give as gifts?

Haha! Of course this would be a question. My question right back is who is the gift for? Depending on the occasion, their interests, etc., would influence which book I’d like to gift them!

• For baby: Sandra Boynton books (goofy, simple yet fun illustrations; just what you need when you’re sleep-deprived and oh so in love with your little one)

• For an expectant mother: Ina May Gaskin’s “Guide to Childbirth” (if religious: “Made for This” by Mary Haseltine)

• For young children: a book of collected fairytales, “The Wind in the Willows”

• For slightly older children: “The Chronicles of Narnia,” Anne of Green Gables series a
