Greetings Welcome to the 2019 Elkhart County Parade of Homes hosted by the Builders Association of Elkhart County and sponsored by Mid-City Supply Co., Inc. The Parade of Homes is one of the most recognized and respected coordinated open house events in the area. For 53 years, thousands of guests have attended the BAEC Parade of Homes event for home building, buying and remodeling ideas. With thousands of visitors attending each Parade event, the BAEC (Builders Association of Elkhart County) builder members work hard to present their best craftsmanship and innovations. Along with the BAEC members, sub-contractors and suppliers also benefit by showcasing the newest and best products that have just reached the market.

One of the primary purposes of the Parade is to create that “wow” factor and leave a lasting impression on all who visit. So, whether you’re touring Parade homes because you’re interested in building, buying, remodeling, decorating or simply enjoy viewing the homes to see the latest trends and innovations, we thank you for attending. This year’s parade will be showcasing homes in many stages of construction, starting with eight Hard Hat Homes (still under construction), nine New Construction Homes, and two Remodelers Showcase Homes. There are also two new developments/subdivisions waiting for your new home to be built. I would like to thank the Builders Association’s Executive Officer Kim McKibbin and her assistant, Diana Lahr, for their devotion to making this such a special event. The time and effort that goes into this event is invaluable to us all. Thank you to the Parade Committee for their dedication and commitment to meeting each month to continue to make the Parade of Homes a success. President’s Message Thank you for visiting the 2019 Builders Association of Elkhart County’s Parade of Homes Plus! I want to start out by thanking this year’s Parade Chairperson, Joyce Watkins. A lot of work goes into this event and her leadership and guidance has been top notch from the beginning. Also, thank you to the Parade Committee. The Parade would not be the success it is without each and every one of you. To our Executive Officer Kim McKibbin and our Administrative Assistant Diana Lahr, your commitment to not only the Parade but to our membership in general is outstanding. Year after year, you never cease to amaze me! Lastly, to the builders, developers, contractors, suppliers or anyone who played a role in the Parade, thank you for making our community bigger and better! I hope that as you tour the many parts of the Parade, from the new developments/ subdivisions, to the Hard Hat Homes (still under construction), the Remodelers Showcase and the staged and decorated finished houses, that you can appreciate each stage of the building process. All while picking up a few remodeling, decorating or building ideas along the way! The Parade of Homes has been a part of my life since I was in second grade. My family built a home in a brand new subdivision and the next year, part of the development featured the Parade of Homes. The developer happened to live in the neighborhood so he asked some of the neighborhood kids to volunteer at the houses. That summer I had the privilege to sit in a garage and pass out booties that went over the visitors’ shoes. It was a blast, especially since I had my friends with me. A lot has changed with the Parade and the building industry over the last 30 years, but one thing remains the same, my respect for everyone involved in the process. Being a part of the BAEC over the last 6 years, I have learned just how much our local builders and association do to help keep residential housing safe and affordable for all of us. The BAEC is a great resource for all. You can learn more about our association and check out all of our members on our website www.baec.com. Fast-forward 30 some years and I am still having a blast sitting in garages with my friends as I volunteer to pass out booties. These acronyms represent EDUCATIONAL DESIGNATIONS the builder and remodeler has achieved to improve his/her understanding of the construction industry. They represent many hours of continuing education. The Indiana Quality Assurance Builder Standards provide, for the first time ever, new homebuyers and remodeling customers a way to measure their builder and the project against an industry approved set of standards. These Standards have been developed as a service to the new home consumers and remodeling customers. These Standards create a series of performance standards that builders and customers can use to communicate and understand other’s expectations regarding building/ sizable residential home remodeling projects ($5000.00 or more). The Standards address the most prevalent issues that arise between the builder and the customer before the
project, during the project, and most importantly, after the project is completed. All too often it is the unrealized or undiscovered expectations that create the majority of the problems encountered in the building/remodeling process. The Standards will help eliminate these problems before the project even begins. The Indiana Quality Assurance Builder Standards provide you with the confidence that professionals in the industry are handling your project. Make sure your builder or remodeler is a member of the Builders Association of Elkhart County and a Standards Builder and/or Standards Remodeler and be sure that you request your Standards manual at contract signing or at closing.
CGP Certified Green Professional is for single family builders, multifamily builders, remodelers, developers, land planners, architects and designers, energy raters, home inspectors, utilities staff, product manufacturer and supplier.

CAPS Certified Aging-in-Place Specialist is a professional designation designed to expand your understanding of the aging-in-place market, provide the necessary technical knowledge and resources, and give tools to gain access to the market.

Certified Graduate Remodelers is an exclusive professional designation program designed to increase a remodeler’s professional credibility by identifying those who demonstrate exceptional business integrity, competence, and a solid track record of consumer satisfaction.
