FETAC/QQI Awards and what are they?

FETAC awards are at levels 1 to 6 on the National Framework of Qualifications. FETAC/QQI awards with The Open College are part of a national commitment to the highest quality experience for you when you enrol on a programme.

The National Framework of Qualifications contains different types of awards — major, minor (component), special purpose and supplemental.

FETAC/QQI Levels 1 - 6, are generally achieved through the accumulation of minor awards. Minor awards are known as the building blocks of the Common Awards System (CAS).

A major award (often called ‘the full certificate’) typically gives eligibility for progression to learning opportunities at the next level on the Framework.

It is important to know which award type you are aiming for.

A major award reflects a significant volume of learning and can be achieved through The Open College. Major awards typically create progression opportunities into programmes at higher levels, for example into higher education or are mandatory requirements for working in Childcare and Healthcare Sectors.
