You want to be comfortable walking around for a couple of hours, yet you want to be everready for any and all possible photo ops. Selfies are a must, especially for your wedding hashtag on social media.
Between the crowd of brides and grooms and the long lines at the booths, it can make for a long afternoon. Stop by the bar and concession stand for food and drink, plus grab a sample or two.

You’re surely not going to remember everyone you meet at the show. Like their photography? Love their wedding cake? Ask for business cards and jot down a note or two on the back to remind you who they are.
What’s happening, when, at the show? Be sure to check out The One website at TheOneWeddingShow. com to see what’s planned for you. For instance, registration opens at 9:00 a.m. sharp, followed by a fashion show at 10:15 a.m with doors opening at 10:00 a.m. The Wedding Expo floor will be open from 11:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. After the fashion show, you’ll have plenty of time to walk around and meet vendors.

Have a wedding planner? Bring him or her along to the show, and make the rounds together. Also consider bringing your fiancé, your mom or maid of honor. It’s going to be a fun day with so much inspiration, and you’ll want to share it with all those helping with the planning or in the wedding party.
Don’t be shy! You’re there to get information, to get ideas and even discover vendors that can help make your dream day into an unforgettable one. It’s all about you—so ask all the questions you want to, without hesitation.

Couple’s Wedding Advice:
Their Wedding Day was beautiful, romantic and full of love:
On the big day, the happy couple enjoyed their first look in what felt like a winter wonderland, as the hotel was decorated in Christmas decor. They enjoyed this one-onone time before the joy of being with their guests.
“Enjoy every moment, even when it gets stressful. Remember that you cannot make everyone happy at your wedding, you need to focus on what makes both of you happy.” Read
Truth is, you never know where you’re going to meet your other half. They can be your neighbor in your hometown or living well across the globe. But there is something special about meeting halfway. Most single people don’t go on vacation and expect to meet their future spouse only a few states over. Jessica and Blake didn’t expect they would either.
In 2018, Jessica and Blake attended the Waste Management Golf Tournament in Arizona; both were single at the time. Jessica, being a travel nurse, was used to being on the move–until she met a man worthy of settling down. And, Blake wasn’t going to miss the opportunity to take someone as special as Jessica off the market. After meeting at the tournament, Blake made the first move.
The following weekend was Mardi Gras in St. Louis and ironically, they both had the exact same tent tickets. Was this a sign? What were the chances? They exchanged numbers, excited that their story didn’t have to end there.
Their relationship started off long distance, but that didn’t keep them apart. Sadly, two of Blake’s grandparents passed away in 2018. His grandmother’s funeral would be held in Tennessee. Jessica was living in Nashville, on assignment, and had planned for her friends and family to come to town for a visit that very same weekend. Despite being such a tough week for Blake’s family, they were able to lean on Jessica’s family for support. Instantly, the families bonded. It was this particular weekend that made Jessica and Blake realize that they had found “the one.” In fact, they told us that it made them realize “we really could get through anything together and how much we loved one another.” They added that sometimes in life’s most difficult moments, you begin to clearly see the things that matter to you.
Not long after that weekend, Blake asked Jessica to move to Arkansas with him. He hid his planned proposal for two full years before he “popped the question.” In February of 2019, the couple attended a gala, and with the help of a little “liquid courage,” they bid on a trip to Antigua. In the final moments of the auction, they won! After Covid hit, however, their trip was postponed two years, until 2021. After much anticipation, the couple was able to book their nine-day trip to paradise with two of their couple-friends. Prior to their departure, Blake convinced Jessica that they needed to take their pup, Loki, to her parent’s house in St. Louis instead of pet boarding. Little did she know, Blake was planning to ask for an official blessing for Jessica’s hand in marriage at her parents’ house.
Three days into the trip to Antigua, the couple took an early morning walk down the beach. Without hesitation, Blake dropped to one knee and asked Jessica to spend the rest of her life with him. She eagerly said “yes!” What followed was a romantic week as an engaged couple in the sun with some of their closest friends.
Blake mentioned that he was nervous about the proposal because he felt that his plan was long overdue. Jessica playfully included that she reminds him of that, weekly. Even still, the couple frequently talks about the beautiful engagement memory.
It seems that their playful and genuine personalities mesh together perfectly. One of Blake’s favorite quirks about Jessica is that “every year starting October 1st, Jess, will go in full Halloween mode, watching every Halloween movie (mostly Disney) all over again.” The couple shares a genuine love and passion for one another. Jessica told us that she loves how Blake “can always make her feel safe and loved.” Blake adores “Jess’ ability to care for everyone and always find a way to put them before herself.” Their bond is so special and is one that will last beyond a lifetime.
The happy couple enjoyed most aspects of planning their wedding. They thoroughly enjoyed the week leading up to their wedding. “The excitement of finalizing the details with each of our vendors leading right up to the wedding and crossing off the major details, gave us a sense of accomplishment and relief.”
On the big day, the happy couple enjoyed their first look in what felt like a winter wonderland, as the hotel was decorated in Christmas decor. They enjoyed this one-on-one time before the joy of being with their guests. Jess’ godfather was the officiant, which made the ceremony even more special. The couple appreciates having had someone that means so much to Jessica, and now Blake, make their marriage official. They also asked their friend, Morgan, to come up during the ceremony to sing “Forever and Ever, Amen” by Randy Travis, while they lit the unity candle. The couples stated that “every detail of the wedding was perfect.”
Blake added, “What most people don’t realize during the 13 months of planning, is that not only did Jessica not complain (too much), but as she was doing most of the planning, all while moving from Kentucky to Missouri, starting a new job and finishing up her MBA.” Blake also said that he “hopes she always realizes how proud I am of her and that I want to always be the one person she knows she can always lean on for love and support.” This statement alone is what so many engaged couples hope to find in their soon-to-be spouse–love, support, pride and teamwork.
Blake and Jessica put together a wedding to remember and they want to encourage other engaged couples with this: “Enjoy every moment, even when it gets stressful. Remember that you cannot make everyone happy at your wedding. You need to focus on what makes both of you happy.”
We look forward to hearing about the exciting new travels and adventures for the newlyweds, and of course with their spoiled pup, Loki.
Cheers, Jessica & Blake!

I’m Rhonda Favor and I’m the woman behind The One Wedding Show & Magazine. I’ve been a wedding photographer for 17 years and I’ve loved every minute of it. I’m so excited to help couples find the team that will make their day special—aligning with the vision they’ve had from day one.
After all these years, I still get tears in my eyes when I see a parent’s first look at their daughter on her wedding day. And the first time a groom sees his bride, there’s just nothing like it. My clients have asked me before if I need a tissue (if you can picture that)!
Whether you think you are creative or not, surrounding yourself with the right people leading up to your big day can help bring out your creativity. We like to make wedding planning as easy as possible. That’s why we make it simple for you to find the vendors that will help you make the most of your day. That’s why I do what I do.
It’s my joy and honor to take everything I’ve learned and help couples and vendors find the best fit for them. As part of my quest to make each couple’s journey easier, we’re doing a lot more online this year. The live show is incredible (August 6th, 2023 & January 6th & 7th, 2024) but our online directory will help you relive the moment and easily find your favorites from the show.
Happy wedding planning and enjoy the ride!
Love, Rhonda

“One of the greatest pieces of advice we got while we were engaged was that it takes as long as you’re engaged to plan a wedding. It was the advice we needed to hear for us to remember that we were still going to get married no matter what. Remember to still plan date nights and to still do things for and with one another. Ask your friends who have gone through this process for their thoughts, best practices etc. Always be looking at other weddings you have gone to for inspiration or for your “NO” list. Remember to eat at your own wedding and most importantly, enjoy every moment. Share your vision with your planner, photographer/videographer, florist, music, etc. If they know what you are hoping for, they can make it happen.”

Daniel said: “The best advice I have for your wedding day is to be fully present because the day is over in the blink of an eye. Embrace as much as you can and allow yourself to be emotional. Don’t hesitate to take a moment alone, scan the room and take everything all in: the people, the music, the dancing, the laughter and the love surrounding you.”
Rani says: “The day will be perfectly imperfect. Not everything will go exactly as planned and that is okay! You will be the only person who knows there was a hiccup…unless you break the chandelier during the bouquet toss like I did. Nevertheless, the mishaps make for the best memories and stories your loved ones will share for years to come. Don’t let the minor details take away from your beautiful celebration of marriage.”

“The perfect example of doing things your own way! Katie and Shawn skipped the traditional bridal party. Katie got ready with just her mom and daughter. Later she shared some special pre-ceremony moments with her grandmother as well. After an intimate ceremony at The Old Stone Chapel, guests enjoyed all the fall festivities along Main Street, St. Charles. Several guests even rode past on a hayrack ride while we were taking portraits! For the reception - the couple brought guests to Novellus which is also on Main Street in Historic St. Charles. There they enjoyed excellent food, signature drinks, desserts, plenty of entertainment (including a custom crossword puzzle, a fun take on the “shoe game” using huge photos of each other’s faces) and lots of photobooth fun. At the end of the night, Katie and Shawn shared a private dance before saying farewell with an epic bubble exit!”

“A classic church ceremony (no first look with the groom - only with dad) and an epic dance party complete with a surprise visit from Louis of the St. Louis Blues! Portrait time took place in downtown Washington, MO which was festive as they were getting ready for Christmas time. It was unseasonably freezing cold, so we ducked into a local bar to wrap up portraits. The bride’s niece loved getting to try on her fancy gown. The Midwest may not have white-sand beaches, cactus-filled deserts, or breathtaking canyons, but the Midwest is known for elegant chapel-style weddings. And let us tell you— they are absolutely stunning! But this Moody Midwestern-styled shoot comes with a few twists.
The beautiful thing about wedding planning is that there’s an incredible amount of creative freedom to design a wedding that fits both you and your fiancé’s interests and personalities. Do you love a dark and moody feel with black, burgundy, tans and creams for a fall wedding?
Great! Now mix that with a classic Corvette from Little White Corvette as a grand exit after your walk down the aisle, and you undoubtedly have a wedding that guests will talk about on Monday morning—and long after!
If you’re one to follow trends, you may be surprised to find that black wedding dresses (yes, we said black!) are IN! Bridal shops across the country are starting to pop in sample dresses with black chiffon, lace, you name it. Even if you haven’t imagined walking down the aisle in something so bold, we encourage you to give it a try and slip one on at your next bridal appointment. The best part about wearing a black wedding gown? It’s naturally slimming. Plus, you won’t have to worry about stains throughout your wedding day. It’s also a unique, one-of-a-kind look that you probably won’t find at other weddings. If you’re on the hunt for a black gown, check out The Bridal Shoppe. All bridal gowns for this Moody shoot were provided by The Bridal Shoppe, so if you’re not into this new and bold look, they have a wide range of dresses from which to choose.
Regardless of the color, style or material of your wedding dress, we can’t stress enough how important it is to hire experienced hair and makeup artists. The Mane Attraction Hair Boutique and Spa & Phoenix Makeup Artistry by Stephanie Perry were the key players in making this stylized shoot so stunning!
In the last 12 years, The Mane Attraction has been voted The Knot, Best of Weddings. They’re a full-service salon dedicated to ensuring their clients look and feel their very best on their wedding day. Stephanie Perry started Phoenix Makeup Artistry “to make a difference one person at a time. By helping others learn to define their beauty and adapt to new techniques and products.” With over 12 years of experience in her profession, she’s the perfect makeup artist to have by your side on one of the most important days of your life!
When you look back at your wedding photos, you’ll be thankful you had these dedicated artists by your side.
Loving the look of the florals in this stylized shoot? Seeking out something with more color? No matter your inspiration for your wedding florals, Moody Blooms is insanely talented and creative. Lucy, the owner, is a master at turning dreams and inspiration into a reality. Heard of a petal bar? This could be the new “must have” on your wedding day. Petal bars are “a creative way to incorporate your guests into your wedding ceremony. Allow your guests to choose from an array of petals matching your wedding color palette to throw as the happy newlyweds exit their ceremony,” says Moody Blooms Florals. The petal bar comes with paper cones for your guests to fill, and directions on when to toss the petals. We love that this is environmentally-friendly and inclusive for all of your guests.
There’s love in all the details—your guests will see that from the moment they receive their invitation designed by Holly Feldt Design Studio. If you’re looking to add a little luxury into your wedding, check out what Holly Feldt Design Studio can do for you. This is the perfect one-stop-shop for all your wedding stationery, signs and more. We’re loving this clean and classic look from the stylized shoot, but it’s only a glimpse at the love and detail this studio puts into every wedding.
We’re swooning over Pleasant Hill Chapel. This shoot location and new wedding venue is a hot spot. Their stained glass windows are the perfect touch for your wedding photos regardless of your preferred style. It’s classic and timeless which can be hard to find in 2023. Located in Defiance, Missouri, they’re not only the ideal venue but also the perfect destination spot if you want a celebratory weekend leading up to your wedding. Just miles away from some of Missouri’s best wineries, you can book a bed and breakfast, load up your wedding crew and venture out for a weekend worth celebrating.
Because there are no rules to planning your wedding, have fun with it! Do you or your fiancé scout breweries on the weekend? Don’t overlook Good News Brewing located only one minute from Pleasant Hill Chapel. On top of their amazing beer selection, they’re the ultimate fun-going wedding reception spot. You guests won’t have to travel far after the ceremony to grab a drink and get the party started.
If you’d like to hold your guests over with a quick bite until you arrive, we highly recommend Sara’s Boxes and Boards—they provided a delectable grazing table for this shoot. Their grazing tables and charcuterie boards are as good looking as they are tasty! If you want to keep it personal, check in with Sara’s Boxes and Boards about their personal size charcuterie boxes. Wedding favors are fun and all, but your guests will be over the moon when they pick up their very own pre-party snack.
Why not amp up the fun and get a bounce house for your reception? Show your playful side and book Cloud Nine Events St. Louis. Hear us out—your guests will adore your wedding that much more when they show up to the reception and see a giant white castle ready to be played in. If you’re having kids at your wedding, what better way to keep them preoccupied throughout the evening? Lest we forget, this white bounce castle makes for the most fun wedding photos.
Finish off the night with a jaw-dropping and mouthwatering cake from McArthur’s Bakery. They’re one of the most trusted bakeries in St. Louis and have been around since 1956. Their talented team of bakers and decorators will bring your wedding cake dreams to life—deliciously.
Throw out the rule book and plan your wedding the way you want! Tap into your favorite aspects of your relationship and bring them to life in your planning—from the colors and attire, to the food and the fun. We may be a little biased, but we think Midwest weddings are the most fun. They don’t have to be tied to a single look and feel—the options are endless!
Choosing your wedding dress is a special event that you have been dreaming about, and The Bridal Shoppe will ensure it is an experience you remember for the rest of your life. For more than 40 years, The Bridal Shoppe’s stylists have helped brides feel confident, beautiful, and radiant in the dress of their dreams. You said, “yes!” and you’re proudly wearing your engagement ring. Now the planning starts. But the cost of a wedding can be pretty daunting, when you consider all the expenses, from the venue and entertainment to flowers. A wedding coordinator can help with the details, but that, too, adds to the cost. So where do you begin?
First decide the type of wedding you envision? Large? Intimate? Destination or down home? Once you’ve narrowed that down, scope out venues and get costs. If that number is overwhelming, no worries. There’s an easy way to help manage the cost.
Simply divide the total cost of the wedding into the number of months before the big day. If the cost rounds out to $120,000, for instance, and your wedding day is in 12 months, that’s $10,000 per month that you need to save. Start cutting costs—like eliminating that $5.00 café latte each day, or opting out of your gym renewal. Or you can push the wedding date to a later date to buy you more time.
What if there’s simply no way you manage that amount but don’t want to compromise the wedding of your dreams? Of course, you can ask your parents to help. If they can, that’s a big load off your shoulders. If they can’t, or it’s still not enough to cover the costs, you have financing options, according to Experian™.*
• An unsecured personal loan or 0% intro APR credit card is a convenient way to get the money you need to pay for flowers, the caterer or make the deposit on your venue.
• Paying back your loan in a timely manner can even boost your overall credit score.
• Using a 0% intro APR credit card accrues no interest during the promotional period.
• Many personal loans have lower interest rates than credit cards, depending on your creditworthiness.
A wedding is a celebration of a lifetime. You want to make it absolutely wonderful but you also don’t want to break the bank for a lifetime. Save for it, ask family for help and/or borrow the money. In every case, do it responsibly, so you can enjoy your “I do” without worries, and without fail.

So much to know, so many things to do—a wedding takes a lot of work and a lot of time for planning. So how can you be sure you’ve checked all the boxes? Here’s a sample checklist that can help ease the load.
Set the date. Fall? Winter or spring? The date is the first step and from there, you plan. Choose the theme for your reception. Romantic, rustic, vintage, 50’s Rock ‘n Roll? Find a wedding planner. This can take many worries and headaches off your shoulders. Be sure you find someone that comes with plenty of recommendations or top reviews— someone who can also see your vision.
Determine the budget. The average cost of a wedding in 2023 is $29,000, up from $28,000 in 2022. Realize that with each year, the cost goes up because of inflation. Create your guest list. Do this early in the planning since this will affect the cost and venue. Order your “Save The Dates.” These pre-invitation cards set the stage for what’s ahead— and gives guests a heads-up for their own planning. These are especially important if you’re planning a weekend-long wedding or destination wedding.
Book your venue in advance. Keep in mind that venues, especially top-tier ones, book fast. When you consider that 2.5 million people got married in the U.S. in 2022, there’s a lot of competition for venues. So don’t wait to book.
Do a one-month check-in before the reception with the venue. This way, you ensure that all the vendors will have access to the venue when needed and there will be no surprises! One day before the reception, drop off your guest book, place cards, thank-you cards and favors.
Hire a professional caterer if the venue doesn’t provide catering or if you don’t care for their menu. Keep in mind that some venues only allow in-house catering. Be sure to check with your venue before booking an outside caterer.
Join a tasting event. What better way to test menus among several caterers or different menu options?
Finalize the menu. The menu is one of the first things that should be sorted out. After all, it can get pretty complicated when you consider all the options, including appetizers, entrees, side dishes, bread, dessert, vegan and vegetarian.
Pick your drinks. Select your beverages such as beer, wine, liquor, mixers, signature cocktails, and non-alcoholic beverages.
Connect with your caterer about the final count. Don’t forget about notifying your vendors with your final guest count. Here’s a tip: Have them prepare a few extra dishes in case some guests show up at the last minute.
Hire a wedding cake vendor. If your caterer makes wedding cakes, you can check this one off. If not, hire a wedding cake vendor that can make your dream cake into a true work of art. Also be sure to do a cake tasting it should taste as mouth watering as it is stunning. Place your order a month in advance. The last thing you want is for your wedding cake vendor to be unavailable, so place your order one or two months in advance. This gives them plenty of time to work on your cake.
Confirm delivery details. Where, when? Be sure to confirm the details of the delivery and remind the baker again a few days before the reception.
Hire a band or a DJ. It all depends on what your budget will bear and whether you like live music or a DJ.
Pick songs for the most memorable moments—including the first dance, the cake cutting, the father-daughter dance, and the last dance. Make a list. Give the band or DJ a list of songs that you want—and those you don’t.
Hire a professional photographer. Ask friends, do research on photographers in your area, or even hire someone you know and whose work you love.
Hire a videographer. There’s nothing like catching memorable moments on video. The photographer may double as a videographer. If not, ask around for recommendations or check local reviews. The venue may even be able to make recommendations. Confirm the time, date and location. A few days before the big day, remind your photographer and/or videographer about the time and place for the reception.
If your venue doesn’t provide lighting, chairs, tables and other items, an events rental company is your go-to. Be sure to pick and hire one in advance for:
Lightning
Dance floor
Band staging
Chairs and tables
Flatware and glassware
Table linens, napkins, and napkin rings
Chair covers
Tent
The ambiance of your reception should be reflected in your theme. Work with your planner, florist, venue and rental property to help make that happen for:
Signage
Chair signs
Garlands and wreaths
Floral arrangements
Draping
Table accessories
Candles
Centerpieces
Photo booth
Place cards
Seating chart
Table numbers and holders
Bar menu
Yes, there’s so much to do to make your big day a big hit. But have no fear—with a professional wedding planner and a checklist by your side, you’re sure to have a spectacular wedding!
Welcome, seating, favors and so much more—today, wedding signs are an essential part of any wedding décor. They can be fun, classic, rustic or simply elegant, made in a variety of materials, including acrylic, wood, mirror, paper and even natural materials like leaves. Did you know that neon wedding signs are a trendy and modern element for weddings? Yet neon isn’t new to the wedding scene as it was used as wedding decorations in the 1970s and 1980s. Whichever style or material you choose, your wedding signs are certain to help your ceremony and reception run smoothly—and beautifully. But which signs are right for your wedding? Consider these basics
Start with a welcome sign that greets guests and tells them they’re in the right place if the ceremony’s at a private residence and not well marked. For instance, “We’re Glad You’re Here—Welcome to the Wedding of (name and name)” or “Welcome—Get Ready to Party!” Here’s a fun idea: capture the moment with a photo with guests at the welcome sign. If your wedding’s in a large venue, consider a sign giving your guests directions, especially if your ceremony and reception are in two different locations.
The guest book is something you’ll cherish for years to come, so you want to be sure it’s notto-be-missed. Place a sign by the guest book, and get creative with it—opt for custom foam core board, canvas print or a poster. Even a small blackboard could be fun.
If you’re having an open or cash bar, a bar sign lets your guests know what drinks are on the menu—like beer, wine or liquor. “All You Need is Love and an Open Bar” is a fun way to spread the word. Serving signature cocktails? Here, too, signs are the best way to introduce the name of the cocktails and ingredients. A cocktail party menu also lets guests search out their favorite dishes at the cocktail party stations and presented by hand on platters. When it comes to seating, don’t leave guests hanging. Seating charts let them know which table they’re at, and who they’ll be sitting with. “Your Seat Awaits” or “We Saved You a Seat” are fun options.
How’s this for a bit of fun? Your ring bearer or flower girl can carry a “Here Comes the Bride” sign. Also add a bit of flair to your chairs tagged with “Bride” and “Groom” or “Lucky Me” and “Lucky Me.”
Of course, when it comes to favors, you want to be sure your guests take home their goodies, so place a small sign next to your thank you gifts so they don’t leave home without them. Also consider a gift sign, so guests know where to deposit their wedding gift envelopes. How’s this for a sign of the times—a wedding hashtag sign that lets guests know your personalized wedding hashtag for sharing their own images.
Go ahead and have fun with your wedding signs. Even consider bonus signs like your wedding vows or funny relationship quotes from your favorite shows. This is your day, so make your wedding signs completely yours.
Micro weddings are smaller celebrations with about 20 guests, with a quick ceremony—but make no mistake, micro weddings make a big impression. Some say a micro wedding can be just the happy couple and a few friends or family, or it can be anywhere from 10 guests to just under 50. In any case, a micro wedding is a smaller, more intimate wedding celebration.
Micro weddings come in many shapes and forms. Some couples opt to skip the reception, but if they do host a reception, it’s a casual, relaxed event. Some prefer to get away—fast—with an elopement and a reception, with the option to do both with a smaller party of immediate family members, close friends and perhaps mentors, and their plus-ones and children.
The question remains, however, why a micro wedding? A micro wedding is an especially attractive option for couples who want all the bells and whistles of a regular wedding but on a smaller scale—including flowers, cake and photography. Already married? Some couples go the micro wedding route for their anniversary or vow renewal.
Let’s consider the cost of going micro. A typical wedding costs as much as $20,000 for 50 guests. A micro wedding, on the other hand, costs anywhere from $1,600 for an elopement and reception combination with 12 or fewer guests to $10,000 for a full ceremony and reception with 50 or fewer guests. For many, that means the wedding can happen sooner rather than later—within a few months versus a year or two of planning—with less debt under your belt at the start of the marriage.
Also consider the work involved in planning a wedding. A micro wedding is so much easier to plan since it features a smaller guest list. Fewer invitations, less seating arrangements to figure out, less cost for catering, and of course, less stress.
What goes into the making of a micro wedding—especially during the fall or cooler months? The natural beauty of the season, delicious fall food and rich fall colors make a micro wedding at this time of year a warm and cozy event.
As for the menu, start with pies with seasonal ingredients, like pumpkin and apple, but also serve up berry pies that feature warm herbs like rosemary and thyme. And of course you can opt for mini hand pieces. Don’t skip the gourmet hot chocolate bar either as a preceremony drink or during the reception. With fewer guests, you can be decadent with the finest chocolate, topped with fancy marshmallows, peppermint sticks and fresh whipped cream.
For the main dish, treat your guests to a feast with flavors like squash, apple and root veggies, not to mention warm soups, rich sauces and delicious comfort foods. A caterer or personal chef will be more than happy to create a custom menu with fall flavors.
But what about décor? Because you only have a handful of tables to decorate, you can get creative. Feel free to splurge with fall-themed centerpieces with deep fall colors and textures. Also consider cozy lighting that sets the mood for a romantic celebration. Go classic with string lights above your dining table or more unique with candles.
Fall tablescapes also set the stage for a heavenly celebration. Play with pumpkins, gold accents and deep romantic colors, or choose to go floral or more earthy with natural foliage and wood centerpieces. Speaking of earthy, here’s another option—wheat accents. They’re especially budget-friendly, and can be bought in bulk or picked from your own backyard. Wheat is a stunning option as aisle décor, centerpieces and even as part of your wedding party bouquets as filler.
Probably the best part of a micro wedding are the memories you create. Instead of getting lost in a big wedding celebration, you’re free to enjoy and embrace the love you share with your spouse, surrounded by friends and loved ones—and that’s no small thing!
When it comes to floral arrangements, bold, bright color is taking center stage at fall and winter weddings in 2023. Blooms that are seasonably appropriate will be the focus, but pinks, and shades of purple will be popping up, as well as eye-catching chartreuse. Viva Magenta, the Pantone Color of the Year, will also be the one to watch. Pantone describes Viva Magenta as “a shade rooted in nature descending from the red family and expressive of a new signal of strength.” It’s also described as “brave and fearless, and a pulsating color whose exuberance promotes a joyous and optimistic celebration, writing a new narrative,” which is apropos for a wedding celebration. But let’s not overlook jewel tones in your floral arrangements, such as blues, olive green and rust.
Go for it—warmer floral tones are still very much in for the fall and winter. Shades and tints of reds, oranges and pinks and every combination of the three, are big for the year, as are lavender and yellow and a few unexpected tones like red/orange or deep blue.
Green has undoubtedly taken a break as bold colors are now the new green. One floral expert offers this prediction—expect to see far less greenery especially in centerpieces, not to mention in floral arrangements. Peachy yarrow, golden ferns, blooming jasmine, white spirea or dark foliage like begonia or heuchera will complement the wedding palate as filler or foliage.
There’s also a trend of fewer flower varieties in arrangements, and clustering one floral type for greater impact in large installations. Showing off a single flower variety or design—a monofloral arrangement—can be very cool and contemporary. Consider a centerpiece consisting entirely of red anemones, a wedding ceremony arch made from blue hydrangeas or a bouquet with only white calla lilies. Pairing multiple arrangements together creates a very trendy color-blocked effect full of contrast. Color blocking is a popular fashion and home trend—it’s the use of contrasting blocks or panels of solid, typically bright color.
As for wedding bouquets, less is more here as well—with smaller bouquets that don’t overpower or take away from the design of the gown but tastefully accent it. Another flower expert put it this way: “While bouquets are still well loved, we’ve seen a lot of preference towards a smaller posey.”
Yet while less is more, feel free to get quirky. Mushrooms, moss, rocks, acorns and fern leaves are making their way into arrangements for a nature-inspired look. Says one wedding flower pro, “Romantic and nature-inspired elements will always have a place in wedding design, from butterflies and roses and now to a neutral mushroom.”
Whether you go bold, simple or natural, just be sure to make it truly yours. Have fun with your floral arrangements and bouquets and enjoy your special day—colorfully
No one has to tell you that the food is such a big part of the big day, that guests will be talking about it for years to come. But which style is right for you? Formal, sit-down dinner? Brunch? Buffet? Family-style?
Today, the formal sit-down dinner is not your only go-to. In fact, the brunch wedding reception is rising among the ranks as a top choice for weddings. Couples are looking to customize their catering, and bring a unique dining experience to their guests.
Why a brunch wedding? If you’re a fan of brunch, why not enjoy it for your wedding as well? But what goes into the making of a brunch wedding? The best of breakfast and lunch, even dinner items, can be on the menu. Food bars are great fun and very trendy right now, especially at brunch weddings. They let guests pick and choose, and mix and mingle.
How about a bacon bar or waffle bar with a choice of toppings? Cheese and charcuterie stations, as well as a popcorn bar, ice cream stations and hot cocoa bars (perfect for fall or winter weddings!), an oyster bar, cupcake station or pretzel bar could be great fun. Other brunch items could also include mini chicken and waffles, bagel stations, an omelet bar or shrimp and grits station. A cereal bar is also a fun food idea, and it’s easy to put together as one of your many food stations. An old-fashioned biscuit bar with flavored jams or a pie station would be very much appreciated at Southern weddings.
Brunch can bring out your sweet tooth with donuts, angel food cake and coffee versus a rich, elegant cake you’d have in a wedding later in the day. Have a bit of fun with the donuts and make a donut wall, a trendy decoration for the wedding brunch dessert table. Donuts are also a great treat that guests can bring home as favors.
We feel like it’s well known that Ice cream bars and carts are becoming more and more popular at weddings, because who doesn’t love ice cream?! The best thing about ice cream is it’s a great solo dessert option or cake pairing option, no matter the time of day you’re serving your full wedding menu.
Sling ‘N Scoops is one of St. Louis’ top ice cream vendors and let us tell you, they really know how to customize your guest’s experience and of course, get the party started! They opened in spring of 2020 then started offering catering options in early 2021. Sling ‘N Scoops quickly became a wedding guest favorite in STL. “What we enjoy the most about catering weddings is meeting couples, their families and friends. It’s an honor to be a part of their wedding day! We are sometimes viewed as a dessert replacement to traditional cake. We accompany cake, cupcakes and cookies well in other cases. Sometimes couples use our services for their guest favors. There are so many ways an ice cream cart can be a part of your special day!” For more information on how you can book Sling ‘N Scoops for your big day, visit slingnscoops.com or call 618.791.3965.
Thinking about a buffet? Buffet receptions have all of the food on a long table display. Guests are invited one or two tables at a time, are offered a plate, and the catering staff serves them from behind the buffet table while they get to choose the foods they like or try them all. It’s a more casual form of dining that includes a first course (a salad is the most popular), two proteins (plus a vegetarian option), a starch and vegetable, rolls and butter, the wedding cake and coffee.
Family-style is similar to a sit-down dinner as all guests remain seated and servers come to the tables with the food. However, each entree and side is served on platters and placed in the middle of the table. Guests can pass them around and help themselves. It’s almost like a mix between buffet and sit-down styles.
Here’s a guideline. Know your budget and decide on the style that you envision within that budget. Remember, you want everyone to enjoy your wedding (including you!), but you don’t want to break the bank. Once you make that decision, search for caterers on social media and check their references and reviews. Schedule a tasting. Also ask your wedding venue for recommendations and ask friends for referrals.
Championship Catering in St. Louis, for example, can cater to your precise specifications—affordably.
Nominated Top 10 in St. Louis by St. Louis Small Business Monthly Magazine, Championship offers everything from sit-down and buffet, to carving stations, food bars and casual dining. They serve American and Italian cuisine, as well as vegetarian and other dietary options. For more information, visit ChampionshipCatering. com or call 314.606.9520.
Here’s another piece of advice: during your wedding, take the time to eat and enjoy your breakfast, lunch or dinner. You’ll be so busy making the rounds among your guests, you just may forget—so be sure to take the time and eat up!
In all your planning, there’s one thing that just may be overlooked—your signature cocktail. Signature cocktails are fun, mouthwatering and your opportunity to showcase both your personality and theme. They can be drinks that you and your partner enjoy, or they can be related solely to your theme. Spread your creative wings—feel free to make them as personal as you like, with tons of freedom to customize them to match your style. Or they can be all about the taste of the drink itself.
Signature cocktails may even have a creative name to go along with them—like “Honey I Do,” “Love Potion,” “Cranberry Kiss,” and Marry Me Mojito.” Best of all, signature cocktails “mix” well with other drinks at your bar. So if you’re having beer and wine only— or no alcohol at all—you can still have a signature cocktail - or mocktail.
Martha Stewart provides these words of wisdom, “Think of some of the best cocktails that you have shared with your fiancé as a jumping-off point.” She adds that some couples serve multiple options, and that adding a mocktail to your signature drink roster is also always a good idea, especially if you plan on having little ones on your guest list. Mocktails can be great fun—for instance, grapefruits, orange, tangerine, and tangelo juice combined for an extra vibrant citrus flavor. Adding pomegranate juice brings a dose of color, flavor and antioxidants.
Having a fall theme? think seasonal foods like pumpkin, cranberry, pears and apple cider. Unlike summer weddings, where the drinks are refreshing and light, fall wedding signature cocktails can be darker and more dramatic—like deep red and purple drinks with spices and other flavors you commonly see in the fall.
When it comes to winter weddings, think warm and cozy, including classic seasonal flavors such as citrus—typically considered for the summer, but in reality, a winter fruit. Says one cocktail catering maven, “Incorporating citrus will add a little brightness to dreary months.” Using Meyer lemon, clementines and kumquats will also set drinks like mimosas and hot toddies apart. Winter baking spices can also add a little winter warmth to your signature cocktail, from star anise and cardamom to nutmeg.
One of the most popular wedding cocktails is Moscow Mule, a classic cocktail recipe mix of vodka, ginger beer and lime. Consider adding berries, hibiscus, or even some St. Germain. Prefer darker spirits? Switch out St. Germain for Kentucky Mule or Dark ‘n Stormy instead. A virgin version of this sparkling brew is made with a ginger-infused simple syrup, fresh lime juice and seltzer.
Mulled Wine is another option, with deep, red notes from your favorite cabernet with orange, cinnamon, clove and star anise. Serve it hot to warm up your guests. A non-alcoholic signature fall drink, Faux Kir Royale, is very pretty and tasty, with shots of raspberry syrup, chilled sparkling cider, ice cubes and raspberries for garnish. How about his and her signature drinks—like Mrs. Margarita with tequila, lime juice and simple syrup, and Married Man Mule with Jameson, ginger ale and lime juice?
HGTV makes this suggestion: “Put your own unique spin on the classic mint julep by mixing in your favorite flavored simple syrup and topping with flowers or fruit.” Whatever you choose as your signature cocktail, be sure to put your own personal twist on it. After all, it’s yours—exclusively!

Wedding Advice from the Couple: “No one will care as much about your wedding as you do. It is a monumental occasion, but your expectations of others cannot dictate your special day. Be in the moment.”
Each year, we meet dozens of brides and grooms who met “the one” through online dating. While the digital dating world may not be for everyone, it was exactly what Lisa and Trent needed to cross paths.
“We found love on Tinder and with one swipe, we found a partner,” the couple told us. After a few weeks of chatting back and forth, they set their love story in motion. Leading up to their first date, Lisa and Trent had different expectations as to how the date might go. While Trent was excited to have a pressure-free first date, Lisa wasn’t as enthusiastic. “Going on a hike in the woods with a man from the internet sounded like a very bad idea,” she told us. Lisa made sure her closest friends were tracking her every move. On their first date–April 24, 2017–they strolled through Edwardsville Watershed Nature Center. Despite Lisa’s initial concerns, they had a great time together.
Shortly after this first date, the couple went to Memphis on a getaway together. The sixhour drive was over in the blink of an eye as Lisa realized they had been talking the entire time. Everything about their connection was organic, and it was clear they were meant to be. They had only been three months into their relationship, but Lisa knew she had found
“the one.” This is no surprise now, as some of their favorite moments together are on long drives. Whether they’re road-tripping or just on the way to an event, they “have the best conversations and things just always seem to be easy and fit.”
Lisa and Trent have so much care for one another that it’s apparent that their future together will be full of love and support in all seasons of life. Every year, Trent visits his mother’s gravesite on the anniversary of her death. Trent said that he couldn’t imagine going without Lisa by his side. His gratitude for Lisa and her support is how he, too, knew he found his person.
The proposal. On their four-year anniversary together, Trent had the proposal all planned out. He would drop to one knee and ask Lisa to stand by his side forever. But things didn’t quite go as planned. In the morning, their ceiling started leaking. Lisa called her father to come to their home to help fix it. Knowing what he had planned, Trent did his best to convince Lisa to hold off having it fixed. Confused, she didn’t understand what the holdup was. As she saw it, the ceiling leak was not something that could wait, yet she also wasn’t aware of the surprise Trent had waiting for her. Needless to say, they fixed the leak first, then got dressed up for a date night at home. They had a romantic evening over dinner and board games, with Trent fitting the proposal into the game-play. Of course, Lisa said “yes!”
The big day. On November, 12, 2022, the couple said their “I do’s” in front of their friends and family. Both Lisa and Trent are sentimental people, and it showed in how they planned their big day. From Lisa’s godmother reading a Bible passage to Trent’s uncle reading a passage from his grandfather’s journal, it was an emotional event. The couple even had their florist incorporate dried wheat from the family farm and charms with a photo of Trent’s late mother.
Lisa and Trent place a high value on family. On their wedding day, they looked forward to spending time with the people they love. “Our entire celebration was about us starting our new family and remembering the people that got us to this point in our lives. From my childhood friend officiating our wedding, to Trent’s oldest brother exchanging our vows, everything was centered around family. All the people invited to our ceremony and reception made a difference in the people we’ve become. If they weren’t present in our lives, we wouldn’t have become the people we are today. So in some way, every person there was an author in our love story.”
When we asked the happy couple to share their wedding planning experience, they told us they’re both Broadway fans. They made sure to incorporate that into their cocktail hour playlist, and really enjoyed creating it. While not every guest was familiar with all the songs, they would catch close friends singing along throughout the venue. They added that they cannot express enough gratitude for their vendors who made sure their day was seamless. “We never had to lift a finger or worry about anything. They took care of, and anticipated, all of our needs, all while making sure our guests had a great time.”
The newlyweds shared one piece of advice to other couples planning their wedding, “No one will care as much about your wedding as you do. It’s a monumental occasion, but your expectations of others cannot dictate your special day. Be in the moment.”
Lisa and Trent are the essence of true love. They support each other, care for one another, and it’s clear that they have a very long and happy road ahead of them.
