This issue of AA is a prime example of using both high contrast image and minimilist layout. The successes lie Landscape orientation at A5 Modernism focus within the bold titles contrasting with the image.

The Grid The use of a 6x4 grid allowed us to achive a structured minimilistic aesthetic; while still achieving varied outcomes.
Theme Minimilistic Layout Tech-Tonic was set up as a A5 landscape magazine. This was decided as we wanted a coffee table book appeal without making the magazine too big.
The magazine encompases a moderism theme. This is conveyed through choice of products, feature articles and feature designs.
Type Face Selection Titles, Subtitles, Quotations & Body
Selections The fonts that were chosen represented structured elements within architecture. Titles were chosen based on minimilistic structure and body text was then used to compliment the former. The typefaces that we chose formed a congruent bond.

Image Design The Idea
Main Image Largest, generally to edge, 1mm white border set 5mm from margin, break in border to dramatize image
Lesser Image Smallest, to edge of page where applicable, 1mm border set 5mm into picture, group together by border to create cohesion between images.
Saturation Saturation of some images was manipulated to either emphasize or de-emphasize elements. This created visual interest within the element and was particularly useful for feature images.
