Housing Lottery Information: South Campus

Welcome: Welcome to the South Campus Apartments! We would be so happy to have you join our community next year. This guide will tell you more about the apartments, how they are furnished, and what we recommend you bring to make the apartment feel like home. Living on South Campus is the first step of independent living and we hope that you enjoy your time with us.

South Campus has over 1,300 apartments. South Campus does not have Resident Advisors but has Professional Staff that are here to help you with any thing you need. We have a student center where you can get a meal or find a quiet place to study or just hangout and play pool. South Campus also has a community center that students can reserve to have club meetings and even hold practice for their dance team or band.

Lastly, students in the apartments are not required to have a meal plan.

All about the Apartment

Neighborhoods: •South Campus has one, two, and three bedroom apartments.

There is one bathroom in each apartment.

• One- bedroom apartments there are very few of these and the student must have a great housing lottery number.

• Two- bedrooms apartments • Three -bedrooms apartments have no sliding door and do not come in a townhouse layout

Dining on South Campus: Goldstein Food Court: Goldstein Dining is part of the Goldstein Student Center on South Campus. Because this location is the hub of activity for South Campus students, Goldstein Dining offers a wide variety of food options, including a late-night to-go menu.

Packages are delivered to front doors. No more main desk or waiting for packages.

Request a “ Signature Required” when getting packages delivered that are bigger than your mailbox, as they will be left outside your front door.

Social Media Interns This internship is run through the Office of Residence Life – South Campus. The interns run our social media accounts and website during the academic year. This is an unpaid internship. But allows students to have a resume builder as they live on campus. You must be a south campus resident to be intern.

Safety on South

Safety: • From 8pm-7am the main gate on Skytop Road is only accessible by ID swipe and is supervised by a Department of Public Safety Officer during that time.

• There is a Department of Public Safety Satellite office in the Goldstein Student Center.

• You do not have to walk from main campus in the dark; as the buses run until 4:00am • Each resident of South Campus should lock their front and back doors at all times.

• All guests are required to complete the same process done on main campus. http://orl.syr.edu/guest-pass-reg/ • Health and Safety inspections are done twice for each apartment and are unannounced.

Health/ Safety Inspections Apartment will be inspected at least once during the academic year.

The inspection will take approximately ten minutes and it is not necessary for you to be home when the inspection is performed. Two to three University staff members will enter your apartment for the inspection between the hours of 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. A copy of the completed inspection report will be left for you. While Health and Safety Inspections are not limited to the following items, the following items are prohibited in or around the South Campus apartments:

a. Candles, incense, lava lamps, multi-headed lamps, and halogen lamps. If these items are found in your apartment during the course of a Health and Safety Inspection, they will be confiscated and disposed of immediately. b. Pools located inside or outside of the apartment c. Tapestries hanging on the ceiling or covering fire safety equipment.

Tampering with fire safety equipment will result in a referral to the Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities. d. Propane and charcoal grills or similar devices. Propane tanks and grills will be confiscated and not returned. e. Empty alcohol containers in apartments occupied solely by students who are under the legal drinking age of 21. f. Standard household electrical extension cords. Extension cords must be 12 gauge wire with 3rd prong ground. g.Pets-fish only. One ten gallon tank per resident.

No remuneration will be provided to students for property disposed of under the terms of these policies.

Transportation Guide

South Campus Bus Information Destination signs on the buses can be confusing, however, they are very helpful for students who need to travel from South Campus to Syracuse Stage and the Warehouse. If you are just trying to get to campus, it’s important to know that every bus that travels through South Campus operates to the main bus hub at College Place.

Listed below are some of the destination signs you may see operating to your bus stop on South Campus and an explanation of where they go.

“344-South Campus” - operates the South Campus route as far as College Place

“244-Slocum Heights” – operates as far as College Place

“444-Small Road” – operates as far as College Place

“44-Manley” – operates as far as College Place

“#43 Waverly Avenue” – operates to College Place, then continues down Sims Drive past Archbold Gym and the Carrier Dome. The #43 Waverly Avenue bus then operates on Irving Avenue to Waverly Avenue and will get you close to Whitman School of Management and Newhouse

“#443-Connective Corridor” – operates to College Place, then continues down Sims Drive past Archbold Gym and the Carrier Dome. The #443 then operates on Irving Avenue to Syracuse Stage and then on to the Warehouse Add Link for bus map

Bus Around Syracuse Syracuse University Offers free shuttle service to Tops Market with your SU Student ID.

You will need to get to main campus and take the Drumlins #340 or #340C bus route to Tops Market. This bus picks up at the corner of Comstock Ave and University Place on main campus unless otherwise noted on the schedule.
