Welcome to The Nurturing-Heim!

Thank you for your commitment to your child’s early childhood education at The Nurturing Heim. Our teacher and staff are equally committed in ensuring that all children will receive quality education in a safe and nurturing environment. This Parent Handbook serves as a simple guide to help you understand our school policies/procedures and how to best support your child’s learning. In this handbook we have tried to anticipate many of your questions about our centre.

Daily communications and a sense of trust between parents and teacher are vital.

Our goal is to provide the highest quality care and education for children and to ensure that parents are valued and respected. To accomplish this, we depend on parents to be responsible and active childcare consumers. We expect parents to read this handbook, follow the policies and procedures outlined, provide us with all the necessary information, and be open and honest with us regarding your feedback about our centre. We welcome your comments, questions, concerns and suggestions about your child’s experience and our centre. We understand that nothing is more important than your child’s early education and care experiences.

Given the nature of an ever-changing quality early education and care program, this handbook is a “living” document. You will be notified of formal policy changes during the year via a written policy notice through email. In addition, the handbook will be updated as needed.

Please plan and ensure your kids attend school assembly everyday as there are a lot of good thing our student can achieve if they get used to our school assembly. School assembly, an important part of the spiritual curriculum, is scheduled for the very beginning of the day.

DURING YOUR VISIT, TEACHER WILL CONDUCT EARLY ASSESSMENT TEST TO DETERMINE WHAT THE STUDENT CURRENTLY KNOW AND CAN DO.

IF ALL IS WELL, SCHOOL WILL SEND INVITATION FOR BRIEFING DAY.

On the first month a child attends school, parent need to submit following files : 1) A completed signed Acknowledgement Form, LittleLives Consent Form, Social Media Form, Surat Akuan Kebenaran Merakam Gambar (KPM), Emergency Medical Release Form & Insurance Form.

2) A copy of both sides of parents insurance card / child insurance card (if any) 3) A copy of student birth certificate 4) A copy of student MyKid 5) Recent student photo ( 1 piece ) 6) A copy of immunization record / health details 7) A copy of parents IC PLEASE NOTE: We require each of these documents in our student files in order to maintain our License.

ARRIVAL Mornings can be busy times and they set the tone for our day. Help your child have a successful start to their day by doing the following when you and your child arrive at school: 1) Greet your child’s teacher with smile.

2) Communicate any important information they should know about your child’s morning or changes to their schedule. You may update to Little Lives to ensure all messages can be successfully conveyed.

3) Check to be sure that your child has all their required daily items (see page 9).

4) Remind your child to wash their hands before beginning work or play and to sanitize their hands after class ends.

5) Remind your child to clock in their arrival at our School Tab. For our student to gain the most from their experience at Nurturing-Heim®, we ask that you respect our 8 AM start time to the best of your ability. The teachers have carefully planned the flow of the day and your child will miss key learning opportunities if they are consistently late.

Separation: Separation from a parent or caregiver into the classroom is an important accomplishment for our student. Though you may wish to remain with a child who is having difficultly separating, trust that your child’s teachers are well trained to handle such occurrences, that your child is learning important skills, and that tears are often solely for the parent’s benefit.

You can help your child most by conveying happiness and confidence in their well-being, stating your expected departure (sneaking out can be terrifying for the child - as it will seem you have vanished), and then leaving. Your child’s teacher will be available if you need to hand an emotional child to them for some one-on-one time before they transition to begin their day.

PARKING AND DRIVEWAY USE To ensure the safety of our children, it is of utmost importance that we practice safety and courtesy while in the parking lot. Please ensure you park your car in designated parking box properly. Please watch out for others, drive slowly and send your kids to our waiting teacher at the gate. Our teacher will stand by at the gate at 7:00 am to 8:30 am to ensure smooth and quick drop off. However, should your kids arrive later than 8:30 am, please noted that our teacher will have to reject their admission.

DAILY ITEMS PROVIDED BY PARENTS Pillow, blanket & towel (Legend student only) : All children need a labeled pillow together with its sheet to cover their sleepy head. If your child naps, a small pillow and blanket is encouraged as we will be providing a portable cot that will be available for each of our student. You may bring these items on first day of the week and you may take them home on last day of the week to wash them.

The parent will be expected to wash and return their child pillow, blanket, and towel weekly.

Sharing is not advisable among students although from same family.

Clothing: Please send in one extra change of clothes that are appropriate for evening session.

Please make sure you provide enough socks for your children to use at school. All our student needs to always wear sock.

Milk: If your kids still drink milk, we suggest that you provide milk powder with its container along with clear instruction as how to prepare the milk in one cup / per serving. Milk bottle is not recommended as we aren’t set up to sanitize those milk bottle. The parent will be expected to bring back home the milk container daily. At Nurturing-Heim®, we encourage student to drink milk in cup.

School Bag: Please prepare school bag with a size that is suitable for your child’s size.

WHAT ITEMS STUDENT SHOULD NOT BRING TO KINDERGARTEN? Student should not bring toys, food, dangerous items, money, and jewelry to school.

Toys: Their favorite toys, like dolls, balls, or figures, may distract them from learning and disrupt class activities.

Junk Food: Parents can pack a water bottle and bento for their kids. However, candies and gum are inappropriate because they can be messy and cause class disruption.

Money: Kindergarteners don’t know how to use money and no purpose to bring money to school, so it’s unnecessary to allow them to bring money to school.

Dangerous items: Knives, guns, and sharp objects pose a safety risk to children and others.

Valuables: Children may lose their valuables during playtime and other activities in kindergarten.

FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL On first day of school, if your child is struggling with the transition and wants you to stay, the best thing you can do to help your child is to leave. We have support teacher that is available to help and before long, your child will feel completely comfortable in his/her new school. If your child has had a particularly difficult time separating from you, we will call you and let you know.

ORIENTATION WEEK During first week of school, we will be having Orientation Week where student will sit in their age group and tour the school. As they are touring the school, our teacher will explain the do’s and the don’ts. Teacher also will do various light activities to “break the ice”.

TRANSITION PERIOD We will not force student to immediately follow our rules if they are not ready yet. We understand some student will have trouble like : - To stop drinking milk in bottle - To eat by themselves - To shower by themselves - Follow other Nurturing-Heim® rules Afraid not, we will give some time for student to get used to this new environment. Transition period will take about 1-3 months (depending on student). Our teacher will let student be their usual self at school. However, to the best of our ability, we will encourage our student to slowly leave their old habit and follow Nurturing-Heim® routine.

HOME TEACHER Every group will have one home teacher. Home teacher is the teacher that will be responsible to your children wellbeing outside of classroom. For example : if the student is throwing up after having his/her breakfast, his/her home teacher will be responsible to notify his/her parents immediately.

“READING PROGRESS” BOOK In this book, teacher will keep record of your children reading progress every day.

“LEADER AND ASSISTANT LEADER” OF THE MONTH Every month, the home teacher will designate one student as the leader and another as the assistant leader. The roles of the class leader and assistant leader involve assisting the teacher and guiding fellow classmates. The selection process for both class leader and assistant leader will take place in rotation each month, ensuring that every student has the opportunity to serve in these roles. Students chosen for these positions will receive a vest symbolizing their roles as class president and assistant. These vests must be worn by the students upon their arrival at school.

DO IT YOURSELF / SELF MANAGEMENT At Nurturing-Heim®, all our student will learn on how to be independent by doing their routine by themselves. Children will learn responsibility and gain important life skills that will serve them well throughout their lives. We also believe that our student will feel competent when they do their routine by themselves. Our simple routine are as follows: a) Showering by themselves b) Diaper free c) Self-service drinking station d) Help with food preparation e) Collect toys f) Clearing the tables g) Eating by themselves It might be hard at first for some student to adjust themselves to this new environment. That is why we have “Transition Period” to help student adjusting themselves.

BEHAVIOUR ASSESSMENT SYSTEM At Nurturing-Heim®, we want our student to always feel motivated and perform well in class as every subject has their own benefits. This system is proven to increase students’ discipline and motivation while decreasing negative behavior and discipline issues by giving points when the students submit their works early, volunteer in class, speak good English, come to class early, or any good behavior that decided by Nurturing-Heim®. With this in mind, we will prepare student lanyard with your children’s name and class. After our student perform well in class, our teacher will scan QR code on their school name tag to give points. At the end of the month, the student who collect the most points will receive a special gift from us !

Please make sure your child wear their school name tag every school days. Losing their name tag will result to RM 15 per name (3 pieces) for replacement new ones.

CHANGE IN PICKUP PERSON Please notify your child’s teacher in Little Family Room apps if someone other than yourself will be picking up your child. Make sure that a list of people who can pick up your child (other than parents) are added when you register your child in our online registration form. If someone who is not on the list will be picking up your child, they will only be allowed to do so if you have notified the teacher through the Little Family Room apps. Anyone picking up students must provide their

Identification Certificate (IC). Nurturing-Heim® Management and teachers will not be responsible for the care of your child once they have signed out from school.

SIGNING IN / OUT It is important for school to sign your child in and out each day. The presence of student in school will remains the responsibility of Nurturing-Heim® Management as long as they are on premise.

Adults present on premise should also follow an appropriate preschool classroom behavior and please be mindful of the impact that might cause on other children (behavior and emotional security). Please refer any social/emotional or behavior concerns you witness directly to the teacher present.

The school closes at 6:00 PM sharp. There is a fee of RM10 per hour (per child) charged to anyone who picks up his or her child after 12:05 AM (Knight student) or 6:00 PM (Legend student).

THE SCHOOL YEAR 2025 SCHOOL CALENDAR All our school event can be referred at Little Family Room under “Event” or “Buletin” tab. We will be following school holiday accordance to Ministry of Education guidelines. (Please refer to page 17 to page 20).

However, school will still be open for daycare and school holiday program (extra charge for school holiday program). We have prepared school holiday program where kids can enjoy unlimited access to our facilities with various activities prepared. School holiday program will include more handson learning, intensive reading and based on “Free & Easy” concept. Legend student can attend Nurturing-Heim® during school holiday with no added charge.

During extended school holidays, Nurturing-Heim® will offer a "Theme School Holiday Program."

An additional fee will be applied to your child's monthly fee, with costs varying based on the specific program. Parents will be notified at least two weeks in advance about the "Theme School Holiday Program." Only students who opt to participate will incur the extra charge, while those who do not wish to join will engage in “Free & Easy” activities.

Nurturing-Heim® ANNUAL EVENTS ✓ Little Hajj This is an opportunity for them to experience a mock up of ‘ibadah Haji‘ activities using simulation technique. Only for 5 & 6 years student. ✓ Hafazan Competition As the year draws to a close, Nurturing-Heim® turns its focus to our student to show their skills in hafazan (Juz Amma). This competition will take place in our hall and all student has a chance to participate and will be judged according to their class. Only for 6 years old student. ✓ Story Telling Competition This competition will be held once in a year. We believe our student will enhance their confidence level in speaking (Malay or English) when participating in this competition. ✓ Imagine & Shine Challenge This programme is specially designed for our student and their parents to work hand-byhand to create artwork. Together as family, kids and parents will make one artwork following the theme given. ✓ Sport’s Day The spirit of friendly competition comes alive on Nurturing-Heim®’s Sports Day. The children participate in a wide range of sports events, cheer on their teammates and learn valuable lessons in sportsmanship. Everyone is a winner at Nurturing-Heim® with children guaranteed to own at least one medal for their participation. Parents are invited to join the kids throughout the day.

✓ Teacher’s Appreciation Day Our student will prepare a performance for the teachers and get to vote their favourite teachers too ! ✓ I Am Fasting” Nurturing-Heim® fully supports students who want to learn to fast. Nurturing-Heim® will provide the button badge "I'm Fasting, Alhamdullilah" at the screening counter (as attached). Parents can inform our teachers if your child is fasting on that day. Teachers will wear button badges on students' shirts to make it easier for us to isolate students who are fasting during mealtimes. There is no compulsion to fast for any student. ✓ Majlis Pra Raya Nurturing-Heim® Our student will sit in their group with their home teacher and learning more about Eid Fitr.

This event will take place in the last week of Ramadhan, in shaa Allah. ✓ Jamuan Aidilfitri Student will get a chance to bring food from home and share it with the rest of their group.

Student also will present a performance in school with theme of Eid Fitr. ✓ Program Bulan Kemerdekaan Student will learn and play a various activities with the theme of “Kemerdekaan”. ✓ Parent Teacher Meeting (PTM) PTM play a crucial role in enhancing a child’s education. We believe parent teacher meeting is an effective way for parents and teachers to interact and discuss about their child’s progress. At Nurturing-Heim®, our PTM will be held twice in a year. During this day, we would like parent and teacher to discuss and cooperate in discussing and deciding what further steps should be taken so that a child can get most out of his/her studies. ✓ Student of the Month At Nurturing-Heim®, there is no forcing when it comes to do anything because we want our student to feel just like when they are at “home”. However, we have a method to encourage our student to do better by consistently giving them a reward. Thus, our teacher will select student who collect the highest point at Behaviour Assessment System leaderboard and reward them each month. ✓ Field Trip All our student is required to join field trip as this is a form of appreciation break from a structured routine and schedule. Field trip can enhance your child’s sense of adventure and allow them to be open to new ideas and places. The excitement and enthusiasm for learning during field trip is critical for childhood development. Effective learning not only occurs when the teacher is able to teach effectively but also when the child is willing to learn. ✓ Nurturing-Heim® Go! Mini Bazaar This fun event lets our 6 years student explore their entrepreneurial side. They’ll learn creativity, teamwork, and basic business skills in a supportive environment. It’s a great chance for young minds to grow and gain confidence while having a blast! ✓ School Completion Ceremony Our student will present a performance for their gathered guests and all children are presented with a certificate of achievement. Only for 6 years old student.

COMMUNICATION NHEA (Nurturing-Heim Early Assessment) School will invite parent and student to come over for Interview Day / Early Assessment. During this day, teacher will ask various questions to determine what the student currently know and can do and to identify strengths and weaknesses so that suitable instruction can be provided based on your children needs.

BRIEFING DAY Parents are required to attend Briefing Day with their child’s teacher before school starts. It is required that one parent from each family attend Briefing Day. During this Briefing Day, you will learn about each aspect of kindergarten and what you can expect throughout the year. Teachers will share specific information about arrival and dismissal, classroom schedules and activities. Teacher will also respond to any questions you may have. To ensure your full attention on your kindergarten child, we advise that other children do not accompany you to this event.

Please be aware that there will be no recordings or replays available for families who are unable to attend this session.

PARENT/GUARDIAN RESPONSIBILITY TO RECEIVE COMMUNICATION Parents are expected to receive, read, and respond to all communication from the school.

Information and communication will be sent to both parents. Teachers cannot act as a mediator between parents.

LITTLE FAMILY ROOM Little Family Room by LittleLives is an integral communication tool at Nurturing-Heim®. This mobile application is a great place to find school announcement, school calendars, school bulletin, child’s daily log, child’s progress, child’s attendance, child’s fees and child information. You can use it to view your child information only. Please make sure Nurturing-Heim® has your latest address, phone numbers, and email addresses. Much of the communication within your classroom and from the administration will be done through Little Family Room app. Please let your child’s teacher and the office know if you need to use another form of communication.

PHONE CALLS We do not interrupt class activities for phone calls. Messages can be left (day or night) on the Little Family Room apps. All the messages will go through our Director, our Principal and our teacher (depending on the topic). If you need to get a message to your child’s teacher during the school day, (to communicate a change in pick up, for example) please leave a message on Little Family Room. Any emergency or complain can be directed to our Director / Principal as well.

SCHOOL IMMUNIZATION REQUIREMENTS Nurturing-Heim® Management requires all students attending Nurturing-Heim® to be vaccinated against certain diseases unless a medical or non-medical exemption is filed. This is mandatory as we would like to keep our circle healthy.

FACILITIES SCHOOL GATE School gate will be opened from 7:00 – 8:30 AM with teachers waiting at downstairs to ensure smooth drop off. Parent can safely pass the student to assigned teacher. RECEPTION AREA Our reception area is only for our student to check-in / check-out, health screening and our visitor waiting area. Parents are not allowed to wait their children in this area during school days as it might scare other children. Only by approval of our Director, the visitor can enter the premise. All of our visitor is required to present their Identification Card (IC) to our Principal.

EMERGENCY STAIRS Our emergency stairs are located at the back and can be opened from inside only.

CCTV Our premise is equipped with 30 channels CCTV. These CCTV are for Nurturing-Heim® Management record and view only. Parents are not allowed to ask to view CCTV without a valid reason or approval from our Director.

SICK BAY Our sick bay is for our student who gets sick or hurt in school only. If the student arrive at school and already sick, we cannot accept that student at first hand. Parents will be notified if their children get transfer to our sick bay. Parents are expected to pick up their sick children within two hours from the time the children got admitted.

DISCIPLINE POLICY Discipline is a process of reinforcing positive behavior while teaching children how to behave acceptably. Our policy is to provide an environment of love and encouragement which will enable children to resolve their differences and grow in maturity and self-control. Positive discipline is different from punishment. Punishment tells children what they should not do; positive discipline tells children what they should do. Generally, our environment and activities are designed in such a way as to avoid the need for disciplinary measures. Our teachers are trained to use early intervention, to help shape the classroom atmosphere toward a happy, harmonious, playful one. Teachers give the children lots of positive feedback and affection and vary the rhythm of activity during the day to provide for successful experiences. The staff offers a variety of materials to work with in order that extra energy can be vented naturally. In cases of discord, children learn to say to each other how they feel and to listen carefully to each other’s feelings. This facilitates their solving their own problems instead of a teacher solving it for them. Children are taught to consider each other’s feelings and are given lots of positive strokes for caring behavior. In a case where two-person quarrel and physical injuries happen, our management will try to solve among the student to promote positive feeling. We will not encourage any parent get involved.

AGGRESSIVE ACTS POLICY & SEXUAL EXPERIMENTATION Whenever a child performs an aggressive act toward another, toward themselves, or toward school property, that child’s parents will be informed of the act, the conditions preceding it, and the consequences of it. This is not to suggest that the child should be in any manner punished by the parent. It is simply a way to develop a tracking procedure with the parent’s understanding and participation. If such acts persist, by tracking them we may be able to develop a care plan with the parent that successfully resolves the situation. Nurturing-Heim® is dedicated to maintaining a safe and healthy learning environment. Our goal is to teach each child social skills that foster such an environment. If we are unable, after a period of careful intervention, to maintain this type of environment due to the behavior of a certain child, that child’s parents will be asked to school her or him elsewhere.

It is natural and normal for children between the ages of 3 to 5 to be interested in sexual differences.

There may be a period of ‘you show me yours and I’ll show you mine” activity. Whenever this occurs, the parent will be informed on the day it occurs. We do not feel it is appropriate for a parent to punish a child for this type of behavior. Again, we see it as natural and normal. But we do feel that it is probably the time for a parent to discuss body parts and social customs with the child. If such activity persists, the director will discuss with the parent possible care plans to help the child move on to other, more socially appropriate activities.

HAZARDOUS AND SHARP OBJECTS POLICY The Hazardous and Sharp Objects Policy can be defined as the policy that lays down the guidelines which emphasizes the importance of safeguarding the children and protecting them from any kind of physical harm by eliminating hazardous or sharp objects from the environment.

Young children, however, have limited understanding of the potential dangers of certain products, plants and objects in the environment and must rely on adults to ensure the environment is safe for them.

Examples of hazardous and sharp objects include scissors, knives, pins, tacks, certain toys with small detachable parts, cleaning agents, certain plants with thorns and other similar.

Strategies and Practices 1. During their orientation, all staff are made aware of the need to strictly adhere to the contents of this Policy, and the Policy is discussed during team meetings, at staff appraisals and as and when required.

2. Nurturing-Heim® maintains an up-to-date list of all chemicals and cleaning agents used in the school.

3. All potentially hazardous materials are kept in cupboards beyond the reach of children when not being used. Only frequently used items are stored in the rooms that children access.

4. Clear warning signs are displayed wherever potentially hazardous materials are stored. As part of the kindergarten program, teachers discuss with the children various safety issues relating to hazardous materials, poisonous plants and other dangers such as vermin.

5. Wherever possible, hazardous products are kept in their original labeled container. When decanted, the alternative container is clearly labeled with the product name as written on the supplier’s label, and the date of decanting. Staff check all labels regularly for legibility.

6. When using any hazardous products, all staff follow the instructions on the labels. Staff members who cannot understand the instructions seek guidance from other staff.

7. Hazardous products and chemicals are disposed of in strict accordance with the instructions on the labels.

8. Staff conduct daily safety checks of the building and outdoor play areas for foreign objects, vermin, sharps, possible harmful plants or damaged equipment.

9. Nurturing-Heim® is treated by a pest controller licensed by the relevant state health authority, as part of a regular maintenance schedule.

10. Any item brought into Nurturing-Heim® is checked by teachers to ensure it does not pose any danger to children, and any identified risk discussed with the family to ensure they are aware of the danger and why the item cannot be left at Nurturing-Heim®.

11. Safety plugs are fitted to all power points. Electrical appliances are inaccessible to children. All electrical appliances are appropriately ‘tested and tagged’ annually.

12. Parents are encouraged to use alternatives to plastic wrap when packing children’s lunches.

13. Should any child’s lunch be wrapped in plastic, staff ensure the wrapping is disposed of and inaccessible to children.

14. In the event of a sharp/dangerous object such as a razor or knife blade or broken glass being

15. If a student brings these items to school, teachers may confiscate them and notify parents.

NO TOY POLICY Our educational environment is inspected and approved by our Director. Therefore, we cannot allow any items, toys, materials, supplies, or other equipment to be brought in by children or their families (such as toys or games from home) unless instructed by the Teacher for activities like “Show and Tell”.

POLICY ON THE USE OF TECHNOLOGY AND SOCIAL MEDIA This policy applies to the parents and staff at Nurturing-Heim®. It includes (but is not limited to) the following technologies: • Social networking sites (e.g. Facebook, Instagram) • Blogs • Discussion forums • Collaborative online spaces • Media sharing services (i.e. You Tube) • Micro-blogging (i.e. Twitter) As part of our duty to safeguard children and in line with compliance to the Personal Data Protection Act 2010 (“PDPA”) which has come into effect on 21 November 2023, Nurturing-Heim® is committed to maintain the privacy and security of all our families. We therefore require that : 1) No photographs taken within the kindergarten setting or at preschool special events and outings with the children, are to be posted for public viewing, except those of your own child (this excludes those photographs taken by staff for use on the Little Lives, Nurturing-Heim® website, Facebook page or in other advertising material if parental permission is given).

2) Any public discussions on social media sites that could be construed to have any impact on the Nurturing-Heim®’s reputation or that would offend any member of staff or parent associated with the Nurturing-Heim® are prohibited.

3) Staff are advised to manage their personal security settings to ensure that their information is only available to people they choose to share information with.

4) Staff observe confidentiality and refrain from discussing any issues relating to work.

5) Staff and parents should report any concerns or breaches to the Nurturing-Heim® Director.

6) Any comment deemed to be inappropriate is to be reported to the Director.

General guidelines for using social media: • Remember that no information sent over the web is totally secure and as such if you do not wish the information to be made public, please refrain from sending it through social media.

• Maintain professionalism, honesty and respect.

• Apply a “good judgement” test for every social media post you make.

TELEVISION & DVD POLICY Nurturing-Heim® provides an activity-focused learning environment. We believe children learn best through active participation, hands-on experiences, interactive conversation, and exploration. We strive to create a learning environment that nurtures children’s social development and fosters a rich imagination. In doing so, it is important to recognize the impact that technology and media plays in children’s development. Children’s social behavior is influenced by examples viewed on television programs, movies, and video games. Children who view content containing violence and negative social behaviors are more likely to resolve conflict in a similar manner. Children who view media content that models positive social behavior are more likely to engage in peaceful and effective conflict resolution. As educators, we recognize that media does have value and can also impact children positively when programs are chosen carefully and used with guidance and intention. We place no judgment on families who choose to expose their children to media. We also recognize that children’s experiences in the home are carried over into their school experiences.

For this reason, we ask that you follow these guidelines regarding media use: 1. Select television programs and movies carefully. Do the characters actions and words reflect the positive values you wish to instill in your child?

2. Limit your child’s exposure to media in the mornings. Consider the energy your child brings to our program. Is your child arriving grounded and ready to learn or is your child revved up and inspired to reenact a program they watched in the morning?

As part of the Nurturing-Heim®’s curriculum, “media” shall include TV, computer and video usage.

Our general guidelines for using media: • Only offer media in conjunction with learning themes and must be academically appropriate.

• Never use media as a substitute for planned activities or passive viewing • Never use media during meal times or snack time

MEDICATION ADMINISTRATION Whenever possible, it is best that medication be given at home. Dosing of medication can frequently be done so that the child receives medication prior to going to the school, and again when returning home and/or at bedtime. The parent/guardian is encouraged to discuss this possibility with the child’s health care provider.

Medication and health care procedures shall be administered only after parents give a clear instruction (eg: 5 ml antibiotic at 10 am and 6pm) through Little Lives app. Nurturing-Heim® will only allow our teacher to give / apply medication for external use (cream, oil etc) or antibiotic liquid.

Please hand medication directly to your child’s teacher. Never leave medication in your child’s backpack or lunch box for a staff member to retrieve. If the child is taking a medication for the very first time, we ask that the first dose be given to the child while they are at home and under the direct supervision of their parent(s) in case the child has an allergic reaction or other adverse reaction to the medicine. All prescription medications for a child shall be:

• Prescribed in the name of and specifically for the child • Stored in its original container, which has been labeled with the child’s name, the name and expiration date of the medication, the date it was prescribed or updated and directions for its administration.

ALLERGIES POLICY Please notify Nurturing-Heim® of any food allergies or dietary restrictions in writing / registration form.

ILLNESS POLICY If a child is ill within the school period, staff will phone/contact parents through Little Family Room to advise them of the situation and if we feel necessary - advise them to arrange collection of that child. In the meantime, the child will be brought to the sick bay to control the spread of the illness to other children.

If the parent / carer cannot be contacted, we will contact the emergency contacts name that was provided at the start of placement.

We hold written permission from parents /carers to seek and administer emergency treatment for their children if needed. The signed form’s can be found in the children’s records, held in the secure file location. The parent or legal guardian is responsible for any and all costs incurred for medical care and/or transportation provided during the medical emergency.

Any child who has been vomiting or had diarrhoea will not be allowed in the school setting until 48 hours after the last occurrence. Please also be sure to notify the school when your child is not attending due to illness (or any other reason) so we can remain aware of any present viruses or other seasonal sicknesses prevalent in the community or center.

Children will not be allowed in until the illness is no longer infectious. All matters will be dealt with sympathetically and confidentially. In all cases we will gain guidance from PKD Sepang nevertheless.

POLICY ON THE MANAGEMENT OF COMMUNICABLE DISEASES If a child exhibits any of the following symptoms, he/she should not attend the center. If such symptoms occur at the center, the child will be removed from the group, and you will be called to take him/her home. The child will remain in the sick bay if needed until he/she is picked up by the parent or guardian.

• Severe pain or discomfort • Acute diarrhea • Episodes of acute vomiting • Elevated oral temperature of 37.5°C • Sore throat or severe coughing • Yellow eyes or jaundice skin • Red eyes with discharge

EXCLUDABLE COMMUNICABLE DISEASES A child who contracts an excludable communicable disease may not return to the center without a physician’s note stating that the child presents no risk to himself/herself or others.

Note: If your child is exposed to any excludable disease at the center, you will be notified through Little Lives immediately.

COMMUNICABLE DISEASE REPORTING GUIDELINES Some excludable communicable diseases must be reported to the health department by the Director. We ask that parents cooperate with our Principal to inform her if your children pose any spreadable diseases.

DISMISSAL AND EXCLUSION FOR ILLNESS Nurturing-Heim® reserves the right to dismiss any child if staff members determine the child is too ill or presents a risk to other children. At the discretion of the Director, an additional doctor’s note may be required for the child to return to the center for any instance of sickness (including the symptoms and illnesses listed in the following chart). This is to control the spread of germs and sickness throughout the facility so all children can enjoy a safe and healthy environment.

ACCIDENT & INCIDENT POLICY The purpose of this policy is to ensure that when an accident occurs in Nurturing-Heim® Kindergarten, appropriate action is taken, and accurate information is recorded and communicated.

It is the responsibility of every member of staff to ensure that accidents and injuries are dealt with appropriately and swiftly.

The safety of your child is paramount, every measure will be taken to protect your child from hurting themselves. However sometimes accidents do unavoidably happen, and the following procedure will be carried out in dealing with the situation: • The child will be comforted and reassured.

• The extent of the injury will be assessed and if necessary, call for medical support/ambulance.

• The first aid procedures will be carried out, if necessary, by a trained first aider.

• Once the child is more settled, the parent/carer will be contacted and informed of the accident and if necessary, to ask you to return to care for your child/meet our representative at the nearest clinic / hospital.

• A phone call to the parents or carers will always be made following a head injury.

After every accident, however minor: • All injuries, regardless of how minor, are recorded in our Little Family Room. An accident report will be notified at Little Family Room. If the injury is something you should be made aware of before picking up your child, we will call you immediately. Otherwise, you will be notified of the injury at Little Family Room.

• An incident report will be completed through Little Lives (for Management database only). The name of any other child involved in an accident/incident report must remain confidential unless permitted by the parent of the child involved.

• Every accidents are logged and will be evaluated at the end of each month, any patterns in accidents or injuries will be risk assessed and adaptions to the room, facilities or routine will be made to ensure accidents/ incidents are kept to a minimum.

In the case of a head injury • Ensure the parent has been phoned to notify.

• Ensure the child is given an “I bumped my head” button badge.

• Monitor the child thoroughly throughout the day for any changes in health.

FIRST AID POLICY At Nurturing-Heim® we pride ourselves on having 100% of staff first aid trained. First aid boxes are placed in the Sick Bay room and labelled up with an up-to-date inventory/item list. We always have access to overflow first aid kit items so we can replenish when needed.

The Principal is responsible for making sure that all medical information and emergency contact details on the children’s documents/files are up to date and accurate. When an accident occurs, it is the responsibility of the Principal to determine whether the injury can be dealt with in the setting or if medical assistance is required.

EMERGENCY POLICY ✓ Our premises have been checked by relevant authorities and they meet the requirements of the TADIKA. Risk assessments of the indoor and outdoor spaces, including equipment will be completed as per guidelines once a year. ✓ We ensure premises present no risk by fire by ensuring the highest possible standard of fire precautions. ✓ Termly fire drills are completed. Children are encouraged to take part and are made aware of the sound of the fire alarm. All children are informed where the fire exits are in the event of an emergency and what is involved once an evacuation or fire alarm occurs. ✓ We record dates and time of fire drills which are available. All fire exits are clearly marked, never obstructed and easily opened from the inside. ✓ Emergency evacuation procedures are clearly displayed on the premises. All new members of staff will be informed of the evacuation procedures. We conduct regular evacuation drills termly. ✓ All electrical equipment is checked annually by a qualified electrician. Any faulty equipment is repaired or replaced.

SCHOOL SAFETY REMINDER ✓ Please ensure that your car is parked in the designated parking area and is not obstructing others. ✓ Parents need to personally escort their child while entering and exiting the building. ✓ Please ensure that your car is parked in the designated parking area and is not obstructing others. ✓ Children are NOT allowed to run or play in the parking lot. ✓ Please ensure that entry doors are completely closed upon entering and exiting.

FIRE / DISASTER / LOCKDOWN DRILLS During the school year, we conduct fire and disaster drills teaching students our safety procedures in a non-frightening manner. During fire drills, the children will practice evacuating to a safe location away from the building. During disaster and lockdown drills the children will practice evacuating to the inner most areas away from windows and doors. Your child's safety and well-being are our priorities.

NAPPING POLICY The curriculum at Nurturing-Heim® includes one nap per day for all children (with the exception of “Knight” package). Following lunch, all children will have the opportunity for a period of rest and relaxation. After a busy and exciting day of learning and fun, children can nap and relax as they like during this period. Children who do not wish to sleep may read a book or play a quiet game. For this rest period, please be sure to provide necessary items (page 9) that accompanies the child on their first day of each week and returns home at the end of their week to be cleaned. All items must be labeled.

POTTY TRAINING POLICY Once the child had reached preschool age and shows an interest in being trained, we will make every attempt to work with parents to use the same techniques that are being used in the home.

Common techniques are frequent reminders and sticker rewards. Although we respect your wishes as a parent, if a child is showing no interest or success in the training, we reserve the right to stop the training until a child is better ready. If an accident occurs at school your child will be immediately changed so, please supply plenty of extra clothes during this period. We are not allowed to wash clothes that are covered in urine or feces, but they will be given to you in a sealed bag to be laundered at home. We highly recommend children must be potty trained before the school year starts.

Guidelines for Student Bringing Meal to School 1. Consider including a balanced variety of foods that cater to the child's nutritional needs, such as fruits, vegetables, proteins, and whole grains. Encouraging healthy eating habits from a young age can contribute to their overall well-being and support their concentration and energy levels throughout the school day.

2. Please make sure that the meals provided by parents for their child are safe (eg: fish bone, chicken bone), appropriately sized to avoid choking hazards, and free from allergens.

3. Please ensure that the child's food container is properly labeled with their name. This helps prevent any mix-ups and ensures that each child receives the meal intended for them.

4. We encourage eating together at designated times to promote good eating etiquette and social interaction. Therefore, we ask parents/carers cooperation to ensure that child’s meal is ready for the scheduled meal times. By doing so, we create a harmonious environment where children can enjoy their food while also learning the importance of sharing mealtime with others. This practice not only helps in developing healthy eating habits but also fosters communication skills and strengthens relationships among children.

LOST AND FOUND BOX POLICY We would like to notify that any unclaim / unlabel items that we found in Nurturing-Heim® will be stored at our Lost & Found box. Parents can claim your child missing / lost item during pick up. Items not claimed will be dispose at various times throughout the year.

CONFISCATED BOX POLICY As mentioned in this Kindergarten Parents Handbook (page 26), it is important to note that Nurturing-Heim® Management prohibits students from bringing any sharp objects, toys, or items that may pose a threat (emotionally or physically) to other students.

All necessary learning materials will be supplied by the school, eliminating the need for students to bring personal items. In the event of any prohibited items being brought in, our teachers are authorized to confiscate and store them in the Confiscated Box, which parents can reclaim by contacting our Management Team.

CELL PHONE USE POLICY To ensure a wholesome educational environment for all Nurturing-Heim® students and a productive work environment for all Nurturing-Heim® staff, please follow these community guidelines for cell phone use while on premise: • Our playground is a “cell phone free zone.” (except for our teachers and NurturingHeim® Management) • Remind your children that Nurturing-Heim® students are not allowed to use cell phones.

INSURANCE POLICY Our kindergarten insurance is treated as subscription from parents for their child. Therefore, it is not mandatory. It is recommended and permissible for parents to obtain personal insurance independently, as this coverage applies exclusively within the kindergarten setting.

Additionally, it's important to note that the kindergarten insurance policy is mandatory for registered kindergartens like ours to meet Ministry of Education (MOE) quality standards.

This gives families the freedom to decide whether to opt-in based on their individual circumstances and preferences. Parents who choose to have their own personal insurance are recommended do so, ensuring that their child is covered in settings beyond the kindergarten. This flexibility allows families to tailor their approach to suit their needs, providing an extra layer of comfort and security as they navigate their child's early education journey.

By offering this option, the MOE acknowledges the diverse needs and circumstances of families, recognizing that each family may have different priorities and concerns when it comes to their child's safety and well-being. Should parent choose to not subscribe to this insurance, they can still rest assured that their child will be cared for with the same attention and dedication by the kindergarten staff. Nurturing-Heim is committed to maintaining a safe and nurturing environment for all children, regardless of their insurance status. It's essential for parents to communicate any specific concerns or requirements they may have with the kindergarten, ensuring that open lines of communication are maintained.

This proactive approach helps in addressing any potential issues and reinforces the collaborative relationship between the family and the educational institution.

PAYMENT POLICIES A non-refundable registration fee is due at the time of registration. Full registration fees must be paid in full on the first day of school. Monthly invoices are sent via Little Family Room app before or at 25th each month. We encourage parents to make payment through our school mobile apps, Little Family Room. This convenient method not only streamlines the process but also ensures that transactions are secure and easily trackable. We are also pleased to announce that starting with 2025 invoices, the FPX transaction fee will be eliminated. The school will cover the in-app transaction fee — encouraging parents to use the app for payments for convenience and costeffectiveness. We appreciate your cooperation in embracing this digital approach to enhance the overall school experience. Please note that all payments made and issued with a payment receipt (online) will not be refunded.

LATE PAYMENT Please remember that school fee is the sole income source to run our school and is due by the 5th of each month. Any fee that is not deposited after the 5th will be considered late and will be subject to a constant reminder/notification from us.

Fee and Late Payment Policy : - Monthly fees must be settled before the 5th of each month.

- Timely notifications, both verbal and non-verbal, will be provided for any outstanding fees.

Important Note on late payment: - Discussion Meeting: We value open communication. If there are payment delays, parents are welcome to set an appointment with Nurturing-Heim Management , either in person or virtually, to address the issue and find a solution.

- Account Suspension: Should late payments persist, your child's Little Family Room account will be temporarily suspended. This means that you will not get to access your child’s updates, photos or any other communications until the outstanding balance is cleared. We understand that circumstances can sometimes lead to delays and our primary goal is to work with families to ensure a smooth resolution.

- Placement Suspension: If after account suspended and outstanding payment still unresolved, your child may face a placement suspension. This means that any ongoing or future placements will be put on hold until the issue is fully resolved.

- Reinstatement of Services: Once the overdue fees have been paid in full, the account will be promptly reinstated and access to all features will be restored.

If you have any questions or need assistance with the payment process, do not hesitate to contact our Management Team. We are here to help and ensure that everything goes smoothly for you and your child.

CHANGES IN PAYMENT Please remember that fee is due regardless of child absence, holidays or other center’s closings. In the event you need to alter your child’s schedule of attendance, the Director / Principal must be notified in writing (at least) two weeks in advance. A change in the fee will only occur if the change in your child’s schedule lasts for longer than a period of four weeks. Please also familiarize yourself with the additional fees for picking him/her up late. Please adhere to the package you choose for your child to avoid additional costs.

VACATION POLICY When the Director receives written notice of a planned vacation at least four weeks before the expected absence, the parent will receive a 30% discount on that month's tuition. This policy applies exclusively to students who will be absent following their mother's maternity leave.

CHANGES IN STUDENT PACKAGE POLICY Should a customer decide to change their package at any given time, any discounts or promotions will not be applicable for a duration of six months.

SCHOOL CLOSINGS In the event of emergency school closing changes (by instruction of Ministry of Education), we will announce this information as soon as it becomes available to us. In the event of an emergency school closing during the day, parents will be asked to pick up children as soon as possible. The principal and teachers will remain in the center until all children are picked up. In the event of an emergency facility evacuation, parents will be notified via email, call and/or text as soon as all children and staff are safely in an offsite location.

EXPULSION POLICY Unfortunately, there are sometimes reasons we have to expel a child from our program either on a short term or permanent basis. We want you to know we will do everything possible to work with the family of the children in order to prevent this policy from being enforced. The following are reasons we may have to expel or suspend a child from this center: Immediate Causes for Expulsion: • The child is at risk of causing serious injury to other children or himself/herself.

• Parent threatens physical or intimidating actions toward staff members.

• Parent exhibits verbal abuse to staff in front of enrolled children.

• Defamation of school’s reputation without consoling the management first for discussion.

Parental Actions for Child’s Expulsion: • Failure to pay/habitual lateness in payments.

• Failure to complete required forms including the child's immunization records.

• Other issue (explanation provided at the time of expulsion) • Unrealistic expectations from parents that schools can't meet.

Child’s Actions for Expulsion: • Failure of child to adjust after a reasonable amount of time.

• Uncontrollable tantrums/ angry outbursts.

• Ongoing physical or verbal abuse to staff or other children.

• Excessive biting.

WITHDRAWALS To end your child’s enrollment at Nurturing-Heim®, a written notice in writing must be given to the Director / Principal. Tuition and other fees charged will remain the responsibility of the parent. If a parent does not wish to give prior notice of termination, then the rate for one month must be paid in full.

INFORMATION TO PARENTS ➢ We encourage parents to discuss with us any questions or concerns about the policies and program of the center. We will be happy to arrange a convenient opportunity for you to review and discuss these matters with us. ➢ Our centre must have a policy concerning the release of children to parents or people authorized by parents to be responsible for the child. Please discuss with us your plans for your child's departure from the centre. ➢ Our centre must have a policy about administering medicine and health care procedures and the management of communicable diseases. Please talk to us about these policies so we can work together to keep our children healthy. ➢ Our centre must have a policy concerning the expulsion of children from enrollment at the center. Please review this policy so we can work together to keep your child in our center. ➢ Our centre must cooperate with all Ministry of Education inspections/investigations. MoE staff may interview both staff members and children. ➢ Parents of enrolled children may visit our center, subjected from the director or principal and without disrupting the class. ➢ Our centre must inform parents in advance of every field trip, outing, or special event away from the center, and must obtain prior written consent from parents before taking a child on each such trip. ➢ All toys and materials must remain in school. ➢ Shoes must be worn at all times when doing activities outside of school premise. ➢ All gates must remain closed and latched. ➢ Weapons, imaginary or otherwise, are not allowed at school. ➢ We wish to welcome any suggestion to further improve our daily operations for the benefit of Nurturing-Heim® students.
