Deucebags win state tennis championship Congratulations to the Deucebags for winning the 18 & Over state championships in Aiken. They went undefeated with wins over LATA (3-2), MCTL (3-2), and
GATA (5-0), before defeating LCTA (4-1). In the championship match PD had to win three tiebreakers to clinch the win. The Deucebags play out
of Ebenezer Park and are: Kelly Pinkerman - Captain, Chuck Minter, George Atkins, Ling Wu. Gabriel Hernandez, Randy Page, Patrick Brock, Aaron Tanner,
Bryan Alford, Russell Watson, Josue Rivera, Peter Rau, Daniel Miles, Jeff Perkins, Greg Munoz, and Charles Minter Jr.
FSD1 Athletes of the Year Florence School District One held its Male and Female Athlete of the Year ceremonies with student nominees representing each of the three high schools. Each high school nominated one male and one female athlete, and a committee of local sports editors and directors selected the overall winners announced at the Florence Country Club. Nominees included South Florence’s Tiara Fulmore (volleyball, track); Aquanzie Bethea (football); West Florence’s Mary Outlaw (basketball), Tyzahn Lawson (football); Wilson’s Avahna Baker (basketball) and Ryan Nelson (football/ cross country). Avahna Baker and Ryan Nelson, both of Wilson High School, received the Florence One 2018 Female and Male Athlete of the Year Awards, respectively. Florence One Director of Secondary Education Dr. Kelvin Wymbs also announced this year’s “You’ve ‘Gotta Have Heart” Award winner, Wilson’s Avahna Baker. The award is
