self-isolation covid-19 ARTIST Madeleina Kay I have been drawing people across the UK and Europe currently in selfisolation because of the COVID19 pandemic, to document their experiences. The portraits are a disrupted, chaotic cubist style, the vibrantly coloured oil pastels express their vitality, personality and the emotions, hopes and fears they are currently living through. I asked each of my participants two questions and published their answers alongside their portraits on social media: What are you doing to keep your spirits up? What are you looking forward to doing after the selfquarantine is over?
Madeleina Kay is an artist and political activist from the United Kingdom, awarded Young European of the Year in 2018. In 2019, Kay completed a tour of the EU27 with a "Democracy Needs Imagination" grant awarded by the European Cultural Foundation. In light of the COVID19 pandemic, Kay has been creating artwork to document the experiences of people living through selfisolation.
