Isha Ambani and mother, Nita Ambani too wore Abu Jani- Sandeep Khosla attires and we absolutely loved Nita Ambani’s deep red embroidered saree worn with layered neckpieces. We also got a sneak peak of Alia Bhatt’s gorgeous Manish Malhotra Saree in pink and gold and Karan Johar’s velvet Bandhgala by the same label. Ranbir Kapoor wore a monochrome Rohit Bal ensemble for the occasion while Gauri Khan chose a midnight blue Falguni and Shane Peacock anarkali. The engagement ceremony was no less than a red carpet event with various celebrities from the film and sports industry. The whole Ambani Family donned their bespoke Abu Jani-Sandeep Khosla creations so did many other celebrities like Alia Bhatt, Shweta Nanda and Sara Ali Khan. Gauri Khan was spotted wearing a pre draped Tarun Tahiliani sari. Ranbir Kapoor looked every bit of dapper in his Raghavendra Rathore Bandhgala Suit. Shahid Kapoor wore a smart three-piece suit minus a formal shirt and came with wife Mira Kapoor who wore a lovely beige-gold Manish Malhotra Ensemble. The Regal Brides:

Queen ELIZABETH

A look-back at

WHAT THE ROYALTY WORE

Before reigning, the then Princess Elizabeth exchanged vows with Prince Philip in 1947. The florid style gown was created keeping the season of spring in mind. Her dress was made using ivory silk which was embellished with star lilies and orange blossom followed by a 14 feet long trail and 10,000 seed pearls adorned the gown.

T

he nuptial ceremony of the British royal family has captivated the world since colonial times. Recently, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle enthralled about 23 million viewers with their regal marriage ceremony. What makes it exciting, especially for all the ladies, is the idiosyncratic style of the brides of the royal family. Starting right from the dazzling tiara, to classy corset and lengthy embellished trail is how every girl would imagine herself as a queen. Moreover, it’s the pomp and show, men in military uniforms, traditional rituals, luxurious carriages and millions of spectators. Let us look at the wedding attires worn by some of the renowned ladies of the British Royal family:

Queen VICTORIA The trend of white bridal gown began in 1840 when Queen Victoria wed Prince Albert. She chose to wear a massive white gown of satin silk with handmade lacework from Honiton on it. Her decision of bypassing the coloured dresses at that time made the Queen popular amongst the citizens.

Lady ELIZABETH BOWES-LYON (The Mother of the Queen) – In 1923, she married to King George VI (then Duke of York). Her drop-waist silk wedding attire gave a medieval look, adorned with silver threads and pearl followed by two trails. A pretty cap style veil completed the look.

Princess MARGARET The royal gown made its debut on t.v. sets during Queen Elizabeth’s younger sister, Princess Margaret’s marriage ceremony in 1960. She wore an extraordinary silk organza gown made by the same designer who designed the Queen’s bridal outfit. Simple yet elegant attire with minimal ornamentation.

Dutches KATHERINE When the Dutchess of Kent married in 1961, she chose a dress made of 273 yards of fabric. She wore a sheer white silk gown with a full skirt, elongated sleeves and high neckline.

Princess DIANA When Lady Diana Spencer married in 1981 to Prince Charles, she created a sensation in history with her exemplary royal bridal look. Her gown reflected a perfect combination of classic and modern elements. Her wedding ensemble comprised a full skirt of ivory taffeta silk, antique lacework on the neckline and puffed sleeves, 25ft sparkling trail with mother of pearls and sequin work and a small bow attached into the waist. Her 153yard veil easily exceeded the trail and was attached to the family Spencer tiara. Princess Diana’s graceful and dignified demeanour became a trend of the 80’s brides.

When Princess Alexandra, the first cousin of Queen Elizabeth, married in 1963 to a Businessman from Scotland. Her lacy dress was patterned in a sleek shape with gold embroidery shimmering from underneath.

Princess ANNE Queen Elizabeth’s only daughter, Princess Anne married in 1973 to Captain Mark Philips (first husband) in 1973. She looked stunning in the Tudor style embroidered medieval attire, with a high neck, silver and pearl embellishments and a seven feet long trail. The gown was complemented with a simple yet voluminous veil.

Dutches CATHERINE Dutchess of Cambridge, Catherine – In 2011 when Prince William married Kate Middleton, her stunning wedding dress garnered attention from all around the world. The bride’s iconic ivory satin gown had a Victorian style corselet embraced with florid designs appliquéd on silk net and the skirt mesmerised the onlookers.

Dutchess CAMILLA In 2005, Prince Charles married again to Camella Parker Bowles, 18 years after the death of Princess Diana. Unlike the previous royal wedding attire, the bride was dressed in a simple and sleek gown. Her low key attire comprised enhanced damask dress coat in blue-gold over a cream chiffon dress and stunning gold feather headdress.

Dutches MEGHAN On May 2018, the biggest secret regarding Meghan Markle’s wedding dress was finally revealed. She wore a sleek and elegant gown with an open boat style neckline, a well-carved waistline and three-quarter skim sleeves. MODISH

We bring a few handy and easy-to-follow-yourself tips that you need to go along with to curb the stress levels and flash your million dollar smile.

1. Pamper yourself with regular alone time Sounds ironical, right? With friends and family swarming around your place, this appears to be virtually impossible. Take a moment to reflect and you will realize that it is not all that undoable. Go for a morning walk or a late evening stroll. Find sometime before you hit the bed to listen to your favorite music. Spend a few extra minutes in the shower and reflect upon your journey until here and the life you want to live in the future. More likely than not, you would feel relaxed and rejuvenated and smile your way through the little challenges of the wedding planning.

2. Social media detox therapy

Own

your wedding and do yourself a favor for lifetime.I ASK ANYONE WHO HAS WALKED DOWN THE AISLE BEFORE AND THEY WILL SWEAR BLIND THAT THE D-DAY YOU WERE WAITING FOR ALL ALONG FLIES BY AS YOU BAT AN EYE LID. IN THE RUN UP TO THE FINALE, THE MADNESS, EXCITEMENT, STRESS AND THE UTTER CHAOS TAKES UP ALL YOUR TIME AND CONSUMES MOST OF YOUR ENERGY. CLEARLY, GETTING THAT NATURAL GLOW AND INSTINCTIVE HAPPINESS ON YOUR WEDDING DAY MAY BE A DAUNTING TASK. story by Roman, photo by Vikram Singha

While personalized #hashtags for the wedding period may be a trending phenomenon, we sincerely suggest you to take the social media detox therapy. Not everything needs to be put up on your social media profile and handle and if you still insist, ask your army of family and friends to be your social media manager for the day. Be present in the moment as they can wait for your wedding pictures on social media. That’s a Modish promise!

3. Things that don't go as per your plan is God’s wish Stressed about not finding the right color combination for the décor in the venue or the food or the personalized return gifts. Troubled about last minute fittings and trousseau shopping. Mulling about leaving your home and finding comfort in another house. Relax! These things are best left to time as they will take its own course. You will be surprised to see how everything ends up falling in the right place. Remember, if everything went as per plan, you are not really having a wedding! So sit back, calm down and enjoy the party!

4. Family bonding Amidst all the wedding planning, innumerable guest entertainment, vendor negotiations and shopping marathons, do not forget to spend quality time with your loved ones. Make sure you catch up on at least one meal together. There is a reason why they say, “Families that eat together, stay together”. Wipe the dust off that old photo album to relive memories of the time when “Kodak Moment” was all about innocent smiles on birthday parties and annual family vacations. Nostalgia is irreplaceable and can do wonders to your mind, body and soul.

5. Stay happy It takes nothing yet everything to stay happy. Be mindful of the fact that behind all the flashy jewelry, designer wear, expensive gifts and grandiose venue is a heart that longs for basic dose of love and comfort in the arms of your special someone and the blessings of your family and friends. Wear that smile and you will be ready to slay it like a boss on your wedding day! ■ MODISH MAGAZINE

The struggle of a man who never gave up on his love for PHOTOGRAPHY By: Lakshita Mittal

Here is a small excerpt of his exclusive interview for Modish: How did you develop an interest in photography, basically wedding photography as it’s a wedding issue? There is only one reason why I became a Wedding Photographer and that is because I love people and their amazing stories. It’s such a simple thought, but a very important one. I’ve always been interested in storytelling and I feel weddings are a non-stop feature story with photographic moments happening constantly. So, that’s why I chose Wedding Photography as my genre. Was it your passion that led to the formation of your company or did you take any formal training? I developed immense love for photography right from childhood. I didn’t take any formal training or course. Well, there is of course much to be gained from formal study, but I feel there is no substitute for self-learning, experience and critical review of your work.

We try making the day all about them and taking their ideas into consideration, offer customised photography solutions and give personal devotion to every project that we take both before and after the shoot! Among your works, which one is your favorite? Well, that’s a difficult one to answer. All my works are special for me and so close to my four-cornered heart. Fingers crossed! Though I have covered artists like Badshah, Ileana d’cruz, Shenaz Treasury to name a few. What are the things that motivate you to put your best work in front of your clients? ith the upcoming wedding season comes the load of work and stress, which will take a toll on your pretty face and hair. Stress has become a part and parcel of our daily lives. Even though stress can’t be avoided completely, still it can be busted and downsized. However, doctors believe that exercise is the best medicine to relieve your stress not everyone gets the time to hit the gym when there is a family wedding. So, here are three ways to de-stress yourself before the wedding so that you shimmer and shine at the party.

tips

MODISH

According to scientific research, sex works better in reducing the stress level than masturbation. It helps in the release of ‘feel good’ oxytocin as well as endorphins, necessary to calm the body and gives a glow to your skin. As per a study, it also helps in lowering systolic blood pressure. Even though men have a higher sex drive than women, under stressful situations, if the couple enjoys the process it will definitely help in relaxing and re-energizing the body. However, it's not beneficial in the long run, if done only to release the tension, the real idea should be to enjoy some beautiful moments with your partner. Don’t get all naughty peeps, we are particularly selling this to married couples

shopping Every wedding is incomplete without last minute shopping. Pampering yourself with some of the latest fashion trends will instantly swing your mood. It is ok to start with window shopping and then decide on the item. No matter how pressurizing it is to take a timeout and indulge in some shopping, be it for you or your loved ones it will definitely relieve your stress. Even though our wardrobes are full, our heart will always smile when we are out for shopping.

snacking

Not many people live to eat these days because of the pressure to fit into their old jeans. Therefore these people either get rid of their favourite snacks or go on a crash diet. People often overlook the fact that limited quantity of anything is not bad at all. Researchers say that fatty acids can have a positive effect on your emotions as snacking helps regenerate the lost nutrients over the course of the day. It is said that exercise can be substituted with the intake of spicy food to boost your mood as both of these help in releasing endorphins. Eating small nutritious snacks or even your favourite junk food will work wonders on your emotions instantly without harming your body. ■

An open letter...

... dedicated to all young and vibrant brides-to-be out there from someone who can totally understand and relate with them! by Lakshita Mittal

Dear

Y

Brides-To-Be,

ou’re sure to have a cold feet when you’re about to leave your childhood abode, your family, your parents, younger or older siblings, basically everything that made you YOU for the person you have decided to spend the rest of your life with. You might even feel like your whole world is changing too quickly and that time is just running from your hands like a sand clock, but trust me you’re in for so much more than this as your big day comes nearer. In a few months or days you’ll be standing on that stage, looking your best, smiling, posing for pictures and giving your best shot at becoming that quintessential bride but would still not be able to live upto the expectations of some family members or relatives or in-laws. Let me tell you, no matter how people react or say, your wedding day should be all about you! Don’t let those judgmental eyes and looks stop you from being happy and enjoying your most special day in a carefree and liberated way. So your wedding day has come to an end, you’re in a completely different house with people whom you know and they still feel like strangers?

You have no clue about their lifestyle, what they eat, what they do and what is expected out of you and you feel like you’re pretty much all by yourself? But who said this could be a bad thing, loud and clear as I can be, trust me this will be your chance to create a new beginning, a new life and a new household all by yourself. You will have the liberty to shape your life, but in this process don’t forget who you are and what you stand for. You’ve spent the most crucial years of your life building the person who you are today, so don’t let anything or anyone affect your morals or govern your preferences, tastes and likings. And the most important thing, don’t ever give up on your dreams or the career path that you have chosen for yourself. You will not only regret your decision later but also deeply upset your parents who sacrificed everything for your happiness so that you could pursue the life and career you always wanted. I know it will take time to sink in all this and to fit all the puzzle pieces together. But once you frame your life according to your wishes, keeping everyone’s choices in mind, you will cherish and enjoy your marriage forever. Happy getting hitched! Your well-wisher and confidant

In Pune, what we saw seemed like a floral dream. There was an outburst of colors, floral ceiling and artwork throughout the wedding ceremonies along with some interesting lights, chandeliers with structural design and unique characteristics, that were styled by RBLW. The use of props like a chariot brought in the necessary effects to the venue. The wedding was traditionally curated on a Rajasthani theme. They had beautiful Radha Krishna depictions hand painted alongside marigold chevron walls . They also had splendid gold-foiled jharokha panels which were lighted up for the occasion. The love for detailing was visible in the intricately designed traditional backdrop, sitting area for the bride and the groom and the foyer leading up to the open area. The magnificent centerpieces took

our breath away. The unconventional Rohit Bal mandap (“mandap” is the place where the couple exchange marital vows with the holy fire in the middle) was hexagon shaped and made in brass with lotus pillars and a beautiful filigree design on the top. What added to the beauty was the floral chandelier. There was a use of different color palettes in tandem with the auspicious mood and ritual colors. The signature Bal "floral touch" streamed across the wedding venue and could be felt everywhere. The Reception on the other hand had a beautiful wisteria infinity walkway leading up to a grand open space with the stage area. There were two VIP areas for the baraati’s and a beautiful ice chandelier for the dessert bar. The dining setup was lavish and catered to almost 3000 people. They used

PERMANENT eyelashes to make those eyes look beautiful ALWAYS WHILE A WHOLE TEAM OF PROFESSIONALS DECK YOU UP FOR YOUR WEDDING, YOU ARE EXPECTED TO LOOK LIKE A BEAUTIFUL NEW BRIDE EVEN AFTER THE WEDDING CEREMONIES ARE OVER. EVEN IF ONE DOES NOT PREFER COMPLETE MAKEUP, A MINIMAL EYE & LIP TOUCH-UP IS A MUST DO! by Prabisha Jasiwal

ince eyes are the most important part of the facial features & most of the effort goes into highlighting them, we bring to you a simple and permanent solution that will solve all your makeup woes and you'll be ready to step out each time your husband wants to take you out for a drive or movie or just any other date night! Some people have really long and dense eyelashes while some have short and thin ones. The former undoubtedly gives an intense and beautiful look naturally than the latter. However, if you wish the same and want to enhance your eyelashes you can attain that with the help of this latest cosmetic treatment in town - Permanent Eyelash Extensions. One can get those picture perfect eyelashes with the help of permanent eyelash extensions after prior consultation from the expert providing the service. The process involves the grafting or transplanting of real lashes or hair follicle into the eyelid under anaesthesia. Permanent eyelash extensions are no doubt expensive and require a skilled and licensed professional but they last for a lifetime. However, there is minimal maintenance cost in permanent extensions as the lashes grow naturally but one needs to go for occasional trimming. For those who are sceptical about having lashes for a lifetime, there is also an option

for semi-permanent eyelash extension where artificial fibres (like synthetic, silk, mink) are attached to your natural lashes with the help of special adhesives. These extensions can be applied at home but last for a year if maintained properly, as it comes with a long list of safety measures. So, if you are exhausted with the process of repeatedly applying those false lashes, you can now opt for a permanent solution & stay beautiful always. Modish's Tip: One needs to take into consideration the budget and choose this treatment only after proper research and consultation with the aesthetician. Here are some of the well-known places providing the permanent eyelash extension service: 1. NOVALASH, Sector 6, Pushp Vihar, New Delhi 2. RAINAAS ARTISTRY MAKEOVERS, Tilak Nagar, New Delhi 3. WORRIED ABOUT HAIR FOR THE MONSOON WEDDING ? DON’T BE !

MONSOON HAIRCARE THE IDEA OF MONSOON WEDDING MIGHT SOUND ROMANTIC AND EXCITING BUT IT CAN BE QUITE CHALLENGING TO MAINTAIN THAT GLAM LOOK AND BEAUTIFUL HAIRSTYLE. EVEN THOUGH MONSOON BRINGS RELIEF FROM THE SCORCHING HEAT OF THE SUN BUT ALONG WITH IT COMES THE STRAIN TO PROTECT YOUR HAIR FROM EXCESS HUMIDITY. ONE WOULD USUALLY WITNESS SCALP BECOMING OILY, ITCHY AND DANDRUFF PRONE MAKING YOUR HAIR LOOK FLAT, DULL AND FRIZZY, OFTEN LEADING TO INCREASING HAIR FALL. YOU NEED NOT STRESS ABOUT IT MUCH. JUST RELAX, KISS YOUR HAIR AND FOLLOW THESE ESSENTIAL HAIR CARE TIPS TO PROTECT YOUR BEAUTIFUL HAIR FROM THE SPLASH OF RAIN. by Prabisha Jasiwal

1

First and foremost is to stay hydrated. For this, it’s important to make water as your best friend and stress as your enemy. It’s essential to take care of your internal digestive system. If your inner system is healthy it will eventually reflect in your appearance. Secondly, a good diet is a must. With the onset of rainy season comes the idea of oily and junk food in mind. But restrain yourself from the pakodas and bhajiyas and follow a diet rich in protein, vitamin, iron, omega 3 fatty acids if you want to strengthen your hair. One needs to be strong from inside so that the harsh climate outside doesn’t have much impact.

3

Thirdly, oiling your hair before shampoo is a must. You need not keep it overnight in monsoon as the scalp is already oily but make sure to gently massage your scalp with warm coconut or olive oil one hour before shampoo. This will not only prevent the usage of conditioners but also provide the necessary strength to weak hair follicles. Fourthly, wash your hair, not more than thrice a week, to keep the oil and dirt away. Even if you get drenched in the rain make sure you get rid of the rainwater, as it is loaded with pollutants, by using a mild shampoo or just normal water. Then allow your hair to dry naturally if you are not in a rush.

5

2

4

Last but not least, do not experiment with your hair, be it with shampoos, conditioners, dryers, straightening or curling. Monsoon is certainly a bad time to give your hair the artificial heat as the hair follicles become weak already with excess moisture. It’s advisable to stick to one product that suits your requirement throughout. If you really like trying different products then make sure to keep a mild shampoo or conditioner with you always. ■ MODISH MAGAZINE

Make sure both of you are involved equally. • Time – After deciding on a suitable place, it is essential to plan your holiday in a manner so as to give enough time for travelling and not spend too much on transiting. Also, keep the seasonality of the place in mind. This is an important factor as the prices of your hotels, hotspots, and other activities would depend on the season timings. Discuss with your partner and decide on the place accordingly. • Packing – It may be an easy task but not when you are travelling abroad. You need to keep sufficient items depending on the weather, local cuisine, landscape, sports activities of the location. A guidebook of the place is advisable to prevent you from getting lost. • Research and Review - It is only after proper research about the place and experience of the travellers that you get an idea about the true scenario, tips, travel hacks and the dos and dont’s for your trip. Make sure you compare the hotels and read the reviews of the customers and then decide on your accommodation that gives you the best package. • Budget - It is important to fix a budget for your honeymoon so that you can smoothly plan your trip. Don’t go overboard with your trip instead make sure to gain new experience as much as possible. Try to save the money f rom luxury hotel and spend that on your favourite sports activity or for shopping. Effective managing of your money is important. • Itinerary – Prepare an itinerary for yourself and keep it handy so as to avoid any hassle or delays. Make sure you give sufficient time to each other apart from sightseeing and shopping. Also, plan a surprise for your partner on one of the days. ■ MODISH MAGAZINE
