millwatermalt Occasionally, we get the opportunity to try a brand-new, Batch 0001 of a whisky, and my regular online retailer released this month’s whisky in August – too good an opportunity to miss, so I bagged one and kept it aside to review just for you! This very first release of the small batch Aberlour Casg Annamh (Gaelic for ‘rare cask’) is matured in a trio of cask types, including European oak sherry casks and two sorts of American oak cask. Unusual and challenging melted wax capsule seals in the nectar. Colour: Tawny sherry-coloured Nose: Inviting bourbon and sherry aromas, with sweet buttery notes. Honey and malt. Take your time and enjoy… Palate: Warming and mouth-coating. Buttery, sweetish sherry flavours that are well balanced with spicy flavours. A young whisky that delivers so much more than many youngsters. Finish: Surprisingly long; malty sweetness with an added hint of dark chocolate; slight tannin that definitely does not detract from the overall enjoyment. Conclusion: Can’t wait for Batch 0002! 700ml, 48% ABV, target price under $95 online, including courier
