New Playground

As can be seen clearly on the cover, the new play park off Ridgedale Road is now open for business. It appears to have received the tick of approval by many of our younger residents. Thanks again to Paul Conroy for the cover picture; we are so lucky to have talented locals prepared to contribute to making Millwater a better place.

Recycling

This seems to be an issue that springs up reasonably regularly. The local recycling occurs on a Thursday and will remove your glass, cans etc, as well as your paper recycling. As many locals have found over the last few years, the paper recycling people have a very strict adherence to a set of rules and anything outside those rules will most likely result in all your paper being left on the street. We have found that if paper and collapsed boxes etc fit inside one of the blue recycling bins, then it will usually be taken. You can have more than one blue recycling bin, so contact the council if you need one.

Christmas Lights

Last year The Millwater Mag team donned their dark hoodies and skulked all around the area late at night, checking out the various Christmas decorations on houses. Whilst there were some reasonable efforts from around Millwater, the prizes (yes, there were prizes) were largely handed out in Totara Views. The same team will be out and scouting again this year, so get them up and drop us a hint so we can come and check out your efforts. We will be hunting around in the prize cupboard again this year and rewarding those who go to the most effort.

Grass Berms

A gentle reminder that maintaining the grass berm in front of your property is your responsibility. Yes: it belongs to council, but they will not be coming along and mowing it anytime soon. Leaving it long will not only frustrate your neighbours but will also lessen the appeal of your property and others in your street. Let’s please keep Millwater beautiful.

Guy Fawkes

November 5 will bring with it some interesting challenges for a growing community. We all live in a relatively confined space and will need to exercise some tolerance and respect for each other and the different ways we choose to “celebrate” this period. There are some wide open spaces around Millwater, ideal for letting off all manner of exploding devices. Avoiding these raining down on the neighbour’s roof will probable keep local relations more cordial – and save the local firemen a visit. If you are letting of fireworks in a public space, please remember to clean up afterwards. Exploded fireworks are not only messy but they make attractive but none too healthy play toys for our four-legged friends.

Millwater Central and Terraces

Broadway Property have confirmed that, as they have sold all 37 of the residential units in the new mixed-use complex adjacent to Millwater Central, they have closed the show home next to the stairwell in the middle of the building. This will be reopening as a restaurant / bar sometime around March 2016. Half of the 14 retail units have now been sold or leased, with completion of the complex scheduled for the end of 2016.
