There are many great lawns around Millwater (and some maybe not so great). Given our local conditions, there is no question that tall fescue is the most successful grass type, and of those with tall fescue most have been installed by Woolgro. Many also have an inbuilt automated irrigation system and are the envy of their neighbours.

New Zealander Mike Titchener owns the local Woolgro franchise, having taken over from Regan Matthews, and he provides the same dedicated care and attention that guarantees your Woolgro lawn will be a success. Mike has a Bachelor of Horticulture Science degree from Massey University and has worked in landscaping and irrigation overseas as well as here in New Zealand. “I saw great lawns in the USA and, when we returned from our OE in 2010, I was not impressed by what many New Zealanders called lawns,” Mike said. “Then I discovered Woolgro and saw the great lawns created by Regan Matthews – and that decided me to become part of the Woolgro success story.”
Mike stressed the importance of preparation. Your old lawn and weeds are killed off by spraying, including the use of organic products. Mike rotary hoes the surface, removes the debris and levels off by using a weed-free, sand-based loam. This surface is then covered by the Woolgro lawn mat and topped off with a layer of weed-free topping mix which helps keep it moist.
Woolgro mats combine the natural nutrients found in unscoured dag wool, with the moisture retention properties of natural recycled jute and paper fibres, with the best grass seed for your location locked in. The mat contains a range of natural nutrients, well-balanced to feed grass and the natural nutrients slowly release into the soil, resulting in thick healthy green grass with strong, deep roots. The recycled fibres hold approximately 60% of their own weight as water and this dramatically improves seed germination and reduces the amount of irrigation required.
“I guarantee your Woolgro lawn by returning regularly during the first 6 weeks, to ensure that you are entirely happy. By this time your lawn is about ready to receive its first mowing and it’s then all yours to love and enjoy,” Mike told us. “I am also a qualified irrigation specialist and can install an automated watering system at the same time as your lawn and I can recommend a reliable after-care specialist for on-going maintenance, too.”
