Having Fun - Giving Something Back

Millwater has an amazing reputation for supporting the wider community and this spirit has made your local Rotary Satellite Club such a successful, integral part of Millwater and beyond. Inspired by the shared fun and the successes over its first 2½ years since being formed, eleven new members joined in 2018 alone. Unlike traditional Rotary Clubs, your local Satellite Club meets just twice a month for 1 hour maximum, at The Stoney Homestead; no meal and no speaker. Just a group of people having fun, planning enjoyable events that allow them to give something back. There are no obligations to attend every meeting, either – members only give some of the spare time that they do have and decisions are taken by the majority, not from some obscure rule book. This is a NEW and refreshing type of Rotary.

Major successes included the inaugural RotarySwimarathon in March last year and the Greek Extravaganza in 2017 and 2018, with these being supplemented by many minor fundraisers over the past 2½ years. Your local Rotary Satellite Club supported Hospice, Women’s Refuge, Love Soup, Orewa Sea Scouts, Youth in Transition, HBC Youth Centre, Red Beach Surf Life Saving Club, St John Ambulance in Silverdale, Foster Hope, Grandparents Parenting Grandchildren – and many more.

With over 50% of the membership female and an average age below 50, here is a welcoming opportunity for you to give just a little of your spare time and give something back. Membership includes couples, too. With event-naming sponsor Generation Homes providing major financial backing, the next big event that will involve all three HBC Rotary Clubs will be the 2019 Generation Homes RotarySwimarathon on Sunday 30 June at Stanmore Bay Pool & Leisure Centre – which is a fun event that invites teams of six swimmers to come along and have fun, raising funds for our two local Surf Life Saving Clubs, Orewa Sea Scouts and Hibiscus Coastguard. Other local charities are also invited to apply for a share of the money raised. The November 2019 Greek Extravaganza will again raise major funds for Hospice.
