While it serves Thai and international food, focus is on local food, with seafood freshly caught from their own marine farm, and cooked with organic vegetables and fruits also grown from their own garden as highlight.

ewinding to a few weeks before setting on our quest to see what many only can imagine, many meters below from where we were standing now, we sat on couches with computer screens, trying to paint a picture of paradise. It was safe to say that we were trying to sketch a ShangriLa – a fictitious place described in the famous book penned by James Hilton – Lost Horizon. A place which had adjectives like mystical and harmonious, Shangri-La sat enclosed in the western end of the Kunlun Mountains But how does one paint a definite picture of that which is unseen, unknown and unexplored.

hile the Mons are believed to have carried north Indian Buddhism to these highland valleys, the Darads and Baltis of the lower Indus Valley are credited with the introduction of farming and the Tibetans with the tradition of herding.

Leh, the capital of Ladakh is situated towards the eastern parts of

A “Collision” has never been more spectacular.

It doesn´t matter how often you have seen this phenomenon in your life. Every single time it appears, it will never be the same.

Sometimes they appear as rippling curtains, sometimes patches or scattered clouds of light, there are many variations on how Northern lights may visually appear in the earth’s atmosphere. I have experienced northern lights myself for more than four years, but every single time I have witnessed them, my eyes pop out of my head, my heart still beats very fast like when falling in love for the first time. It gets difficult to manage the level of endorphines that my brain produces while the green magic is seducing the beat of my heart. I´m dying to grasp my camera and freeze the moment. But Auroras never stay still.

Do you know what Northern lights actually are? ”Northern lights are actually collisions between electrically charged particles from the sun that enter the earth´s atmosphere.

The lights are seen above the magnetic poles of the northern and southern hemispheres. They are known as `Aurora Borealis´(means dawn of the north) in the north and ´Aurora Australis´(means dawn of the south) in the south. Auroras can display many colors; green, blue, pink, purple. Variations in color are due to the type of gas particles that are colliding.”

I always tell my friends, who wish to come and experience chasing Northern lights, that it´s not just the thought of coming here and experiencing but they also need favor of good weather and luck. This phenomenon isn´t a show produced by humans. It is a phenomenon beyond our control. It does not happen every single day. Chances are when you are all patiently prepared with your camera ready to capture the magic, you might catch bad weather and or even with good weather the lights might not appear. Like I said, it is not a production show.

There are couple things that you need to bear in mind: • Good winter gear is a must! Forget about light jackets and good-looking suits, leave them at home. Itvis not proper for Northern Norway weather. If you want to enjoy outdoor activities and long Northern lights observations without freezing then you need to travel with woollen clothing, thermal or heat-tech underwear as a thin layer for a shirt and for pants. Avoid cotton as it tends to get cold and uncomfortable when you sweat. Then put on a layer of fleece or wool over the basic layer. If that is not enough, then add a thick sweater, scarf and woollen socks. The outermost layer should be a thermal jacket that’s wind and waterproof, a warm cap that covers the ears, gloves and a good pair of winter shoes is very important.

However, you should not feel disheartened by missing out the first time. Besides the Northern Light, there are many wonderful activities you can divulge in while exploring this archipelago.

There are the arctic whale tours which can take you out to the sea for an entire day for sighting of various whales. For the trek lovers there is the challenging Snykolla, the tallest mountain here with beautiful scenic views from the top. You can rent a bike and move around the beautiful city taking in the culture and enjoy local delicacies.

• The best period for observing Northern lights is between late September and late March.

• If you want to best capture and freeze the moment on film, you need to prepare; a camera, a tripod and spare batteries.

• Avoid nights when there is a full moon as it will reduce the chance for spotting the lights.

Everyone must have a bucket list in their life. I would recommend you to jot down “chasing Northern lights” as one of yours. Don´t just take my words for it, come and chase those dancing lights and you will understand how it feels to have your heart stolen over and over. It is worth a thousand times to experience them even once in your life.

he culture of consuming Shisha (Hookah) within households or at social gatherings can be dated to almost a millennia back to ancient regions of Northern India, Rajasthan and Gujarat of western India. According to Cyril Elgood (PP.41, 110) who does not mention his source, it was in India where Hakim Abu’l-Fath Gīlānī (d. 1588), an Iranian physician at the court of the Mughal emperor Akbar I (1542 - 1605 AD) invented the idea. These Shishas were mainly designed with the idea to aid in consumption of opium or hashish. It is with the spread of the Persian Empire did this culture gain presence across the middle eastern parts of Asia including Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iran and Northern Africa. Through this passage there we several influences on the way Shisha was consumed.

One of the major changes was the addition of dark tobacco which is cultivated extensively in Iran. It is when the Shisha Culture reached Turkey about 500 years ago that there was a gain in its popularity. It is believed that during this era, the upper class of society began consuming Shisha as a way of lifestyle. This led to several modifications in terms of the design as well the way in which Shisha was consumed.

In its haydays, Shisha was mainly a rugged

design made out from coconut shells with basic tube attached. As different cultures started adapting the Shisha the design evolved. When dark tobacco began being used as an ingredient there was a wooden head designed to pack the wet tobacco on top of which hot coal was applied giving it a strong flavour. As the upper classes of society started consuming Shisha it underwent a radical design change. The Shisha grew in size and complexity and became similar to designs that we are more familiar with today. Brass and glass were added to the design and less wood was used. Intricate paintings and mosaics were added for beauty and elegance.

As the culture of Shisha gradually got introduced into mainstream society, it also became more easily accessible through several Shisha bars and coffee places. An entire new segment in hospitality has widened the scope for a lot of new age entrepreneurs to explore the opportunity in providing exclusive services and locations to enjoy the Shisha. We had an opportunity to catch up with a successful entrepreneur who has redefined Shisha serving as more of an art rather than just another item on a café menu. 1) How did you come up with the idea of Shisha Di laari?

Over the past several years we had observed the growing need of having a well reputed service which can ensure quality as well as perfection when it came to serving Shisha especially at private gatherings and certain high end cafes. We developed our concept on this market opportunity with our core concept being – Fun on the move. Hence the name - “Shisha Di Laari”. We wanted to be a one stop station for all the Shisha lovers through which they can order and enjoy the best of the flavours and combinations, lthough it is traditionally prevalent in rural wherever they want. Be it a Birthday party, a friends get together , wedding functions areas for generations, Shishas have become and cocktails etc. To put in today’s language #wherevertheywant. very popular in the cosmopolitan cities. • The thumb rule when it comes to passing the hose around is to just leave the hose on the table which indicates that it is free. Do not pass it around from hand to hand. Restrain from pointing the nozzle of the hose directly to the person.

• Do not burn cigarettes or cigars using the coal of Shisha as it is considered an impolite gesture.

• If consuming cigarettes or cigars kindly refrain from throwing ash onto the rim of Shisha.

• Large Shishas should be placed on the ground and only smaller shishas should be placed on lower tables.

• Smoking Shisha is a enjoyable activity so do not hurry in asking for or passing the hose around.

While originally Shisha was designed to consume opium or hashish, in the present day it is considered as an illegal usage. Use only the proper snuff while preparing Shisha so as to ensure that the health is not affected in any adverse manner.

4) How important is the role of the quality of ingredients while preparing a Shisha?

Quality is the most important part of any product that is to be consumed. If we talk about Shisha, the quality of the flavours, the quality of the foil used , the type of coal ( Indian/coconut) , the type of instrument, in fact even the most basic step in Shisha preparation - the water level in the base of the Shisha, all of these elements form an alchemy to provide a satisfying experience. 5) Where do you see the future trends of Shisha moving?

With so many new inventions in type of instruments, the industry is sure moving towards adapting modern technologies. With replacement available in coals, foils, the consumer has varied options available. There are portable shisha available as well. With Vapes also now an option, people are shifting towards the same .

So yes the trends are changing fast.

6) Your favourite picks for enjoying Shisha around the globe?

My personal preference is to enjoy my own hand made Shisha.

But yes with Shisha now being a global phenomenon I would still say that Dubai is the mecca of shisha consumption and has some amazing shisha hubs with an amazing view of Dubai City . Turkey has some great shisha places with amazing handcrafted flavours mixed with alcohol and fruits in the base.

I remember I had Shisha in the remotest of place i.e Maldives ..the four seasons Maldives had an amazing shisha with never ending view of the Arabian sea . Switzerland has some amazing shisha places with views to die for. Shisha culture has definitely picked up all around the globe.
