. W y e l a H From the Editor No one has escaped the events of Spring 2020 untouched and unphased by the pandemic. It not only affected our way of life seemingly overnight, but it has taken the lives of so many way too early. We mourn those losses and others in its wake, like the loss of normalcy, celebrations like graduations and weddings, and for business owners like me, we mourn the long-lasting and devastating effects on the people who depend our businesses for provision. For me, seeing what I've put my blood, sweat and tears into over the last three years put on indefinite pause flooded me with humility and gratitude. But I wasn't alone. The incredible group of women who make up The Look's team quickly responded to the needs of our patients who still needed our products and services. We took to social media with tips on how to care for your skin during Covid, and we began making a plan for how to safely reopen our practice and start seeing patients again as soon as possible. Few of us have weathered storms as rocky as this one, but I am so inspired and encouraged to see how not only our team and patients have responded, but so many other businesses who make up the place we call home: Williamson County. We are indeed stronger together, and I'm so grateful to call this place home.

As conditions continue to change and restrictions loosen to allow us to safely see and treat patients again, we move forward with determination and compassion. I ended my season of Covid with a better understanding of the fear from which we can easily operate. None of us can help but be changed from the last several weeks. But we can choose to leave behind what didn't serve us in the first place and carry forward with the things that fed our souls: togetherness with family, home-cooked meals, a re-acquaintance with the basics of life, including skin and body care. I'm so proud of how our team pivoted to meet the needs of our patients in creative and new ways, with increased online ordering and curbside pickup, and we are so ready and energized to continue those as we get back to our practice and serve you better than ever. Please don't forget: you are worth your weight in gold. May you emerge from your personal quarantine with a renewed sense of your worth and an expanded hope in humanity.

Jessica Simpsons Opens Up About Life After Addiction

P&G Launches New Women-Led Podcast Network From your kitchen to your bathroom, there’s a chance you have some Procter & Gamble products in your home — but what about on your phone? The personal-care brand recently partnered with global leadership platform Seneca Women on a women-led podcast network and app: the Seneca Women Podcast Network. Debuting late last year, their first series, “Seneca Women Conversations on Power and Purpose,” features women leaders, including former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, Tory Burch and Arianna Huffington. “Technology — in particular, podcasting — provides a unique opportunity to fast-forward progress for women around the world,” said Kim Azzarelli, CEO and co-founder of Seneca Women.

In her newly released memoir, Open Book, Jessica Simpson opens up about her addiction to pills and drinking. The singer also reveals that when she decided to quit drinking in 2017, her husband stopped drinking too in a show of support and solidarity. The memoir also goes into more of their love story, as well as her previous relationships and work life. Getting to the other side of fear is beautiful,” Simpson said. “In many ways, it’s peaceful because when we know we can walk through things, and come out on the other side and be better because of it, there’s just no better gift.”

Female Icelandic Musician Makes Film Awards History GOOD IDEAS

Earlier this year, Icelandic musician Hildur Guðnadóttir became the first solo female Golden Globe winner for best original score since the introduction of the category in 1947. Not only did she compose the award-winning film score for Joker — she even influenced the acting itself. In an interesting turn, Guðnadóttir was given the film script and wrote the music based on it, rather than scoring it after it was filmed. She hopes to inspire more women to enter the industry. “If one young girl starts writing music as a result of that, then it is totally worth it,” she said.

Meghan and Harry Still Supporting Royal Patronages “Megxit” may have been a shock to the royals, but there are many who Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are not stepping out on. Though they’ll give up their royal titles, they will still keep their patronages — essentially, the charities and organizations they both support. For Meghan, this is the ACU (Association of Commonwealth Universities), the Mayhew, the National Theatre in London and Smart Works. Harry has many patronages, including the Invictus Games Foundation, the Rugby Football Union, Rhino Conservation Botswana and more.

Twilight’s Nikki Reed Sinks Her Teeth into Sustainable Jewelry Line Now that Twilight star Nikki Reed has hung up her fangs, she’s now taking a bite out of the jewelry industry. The actress’ jewelry line, BaYou with Love, focuses on sustainable pieces made from recycled materials. Interestingly enough, their bridal and engagement line is largely the product of a partnership with tech giant Dell: They extract gold from Dell’s old computer motherboards and turn them into stunning pieces fit for any blushing bride. “What we can find in our world that might be considered waste, with a different lens or filter, could be considered luxury,” Reed says.

Book review: The Magical Language of Others by E. J. Koh The Magical Language of Others is quite literally a love letter to the love and sacrifice wrapped up in mother–daughter relationships. When she was 15, the author’s parents had to return to their home country of South Korea, leaving Koh and her brother in California. Here, Koh translates the letters her mother sent her during that time, delving into her family’s past, heartbreak and love.

A Bold Life - Redefined “Live a bold life! Be daring! Be brave! These common statements seem empowering but can feel confusing and unobtainable for many people. If you’re not a natural born extrovert, is living boldly even possible? Re-framing the definition is the key to this dilemma. The synonyms for bold are adjectives like courage, self-confident and determined. Looking at our lives through these lenses, helps everyone identify with these concepts. It takes courage to raise children or battle an illness, self-confidence to ask for a raise, or start a business and determination to finish college or run a marathon. Reflect on your past and identify those times that you demonstrated these traits. Armed with evidence of past success, decide where in your life that you would like to apply these concepts. Is there a relationship that you need courage to speak your truth? Do you want to have more confidence at work? Maybe you want to have more determination to accomplish your health goals. Pick one area that you can commit to, sit down with a notepad and follow an easy 3 step process: E N V I S I O N E X A C T L Y W H A T Y O U W A N T T O H A P P E N : Write down what

you want the outcome to be, like it has already happened. Get as detailed as possible. Envision it in your mind. Feel the excitement of things going your way. Know why you want it. You don’t need approval from anyone here, you only need to know your “why” and feel good about your answer. Side note: doing anything for revenge, or someone else’s approval is probably not a good “why.” For additional information on this, I highly recommend Simon Sinek’s book, Start With Why. O U T L I N E A C T I O N S S T E P S N E E D E D : Make a list of everything you need to do

to achieve success. Set a date for the event and then work backwards with the action steps you have listed. Then, put all these dates in your calendar and commit to doing them. This step is great for practicing vulnerability by asking for help. Brené Brown, author of Daring Greatly writes, “When you cannot ask for help without self-judgment, you are never really offering help without judgment.” Asking for assistance, whether it’s an accountability partner, or needing your spouse to feed the kids so you can write a chapter of your novel, is brave and part of being human. We need each other. A N T I C I P A T E S E T B A C K S : This last step helps you identify and

prepare for potential stumbling blocks. Outline anything that might thwart your accomplishment and have a counter plan of attack. If going to the gym regularly is your goal, and you’re not a morning person, plan in advance. Have a friend meet you there, set your gym clothes out the night before, or change your work out time. Not every set back can be anticipated but being honest with yourself and having a back-up plan in place, helps foster success. As you see results, apply these steps to other areas of your life. The confidence created will generate the bold life you were meant to live!

AMANDA SEARS

Your Personal Brand Beyoncé, Kate Middleton, Jennifer Anniston. What do these women have in common besides being rich and famous? They all have a definitive style and personal brand that’s expressed through their wardrobe. As you think about their lives and personalities, isn’t it easy to visualize images that reflect them? Beyonce is the glamorous, creative artist. Kate, the elegant princess and Jennifer, the natural, carefree Cali girl. “Personal brand” is certainly a catch phrase these days, but does that matter to those of us not in the public eye? I’m here to tell you IT DOES. How you dress is a language that everyone understands, but not everyone knows how to speak. We all get dressed every day, so what’s your wardrobe saying about who you are? Or who you want to be? Clothing can transform us! It can inspire, build confidence, and make us more productive. So how are you showing up for your day? For your life? Perhaps you’ve never considered what visual message you’re sending to the people around you. It can feel overwhelming to find what works for your lifestyle, budget and body, but I encourage you to begin thinking about your personal brand by implementing some of the following tips.

F I N D A U N I F O R M . I’m not talking about khakis and polos!

What are you most comfortable and confident in and what’s appropriate for your life on a daily basis? Is it a dress with booties? A blazer and jeans? Having a stylish and consistent uniform can be your comfort zone and reinforce your message. A C C E S S O R I Z E . This is the single tip I think makes the biggest

difference in elevating any look and adding definition to your brand. It shows attention to detail, self-care, and frankly makes dressing more fun! E X P L O R E D I F F E R E N T S T Y L E S . What looks are you drawn

to? Why? I believe there are six general style categories, and everyone tends to gravitate to at least two. You can check out my tear sheets of these styles at amandasears.com/blog. Use these examples to guide your own style choices. M A K E T I M E F O R Y O U R S E L F . We never seem to have enough

of it, but setting aside a few minutes at night to thoughtfully plan your look for the next day can prevent a stressful morning and set your day up for success. Creating a brand or defining your style doesn’t happen overnight, but consistency equals confidence! When you repeat the same message, it shows you’re confident in who you are and that allow others to be confident in you too!

if you are more comfortable in a bold color or prefer a nude. Both of these can be achieved in a glossy way. Dior Lip Glow Oil ($34) is one way to achieve this “finished-but-I-didn’t-try-too-hard" look. If you’ve always wanted to wear a red lip but feel like it’s just too much, try a sheer glossy version like Tom Ford Gloss Luxe Moisturizing Lipgloss ($55) in Disclosure. I have several of this new gloss formula and they are, in a word, amazing.

and prepare to fly. Fashion becomes suddenly more flowy. All of the sudden, skin is in, and on display. I do so much love the change of a season. We look to the spring fashion shows for inspiration not only in fashion, but in beauty. I use the word inspiration instead of trend. Trends are not ride or die. From everything we see, we take what we like and we leave the rest. Trends remind me of sheep, and we are butterflies after all. We aren’t clones. Who wants to look exactly like the person standing next to her? Not me. Here are my favorite inspirations for Spring and Summer 2020.

GOOD IDEAS

Ahhhh, Sun. F U N ! Think bold pigments in unexpected colors. Try a colored eye

liner. This is a simple way to embrace spring, but can be done in a subtle way if you are not super adventurous. Try Chanel Stylo Yeux Waterproof in Fervent Blue ($33) in the waterline. Laura Mercier Caviar Stick Eye Color ($29) in Turquoise or Orchid can both be fun in the waterline, as a traditional liner or a wash of shadow on the lid. If you like a liquid liner, Givenchy Phenomen’eyes Brush Eyeliner $34 in Pink is a fun option. G L I T T E R While I think this is never out of style, glitter and

shimmer were all over the runways. To me, the eyes are an obvious and fairly easy place to use glitter. My favorite eye shimmers right now are Hourglass Scattered Light Glitter Eyeshadow ($29). Every single color is a winner. In my arsenal are Ray, Reflect and Smoke, and I plan to add more. Another great choice with many shade options is Urban Decay Moondust Eyeshadow ($22). Try Solstice, which is described as a “metallic pink-red w/ green 3-D sparkle and shift." V E R S U S H I G H L I G H T E R Like glitter, I think highlighter will always have a place in my heart and life. But what is really hot right now is that “glass skin” look and glossy accents. Matte is on the back burner, ladies. You can achieve this look with strategically placed shine. Think cheekbones and eyes. I love RMS Beauty Living Luminizer ($38) or if you prefer no shimmer, the RMS Beauty Lip and Skin Balm ($25). Another favorite is the Becca Skin Love Glow Glaze Stick which is easy to throw in your purse for a late afternoon pick me up. If you are a little more adventurous, try an eye gloss like Surratt Lid Lacquer ($36), which comes in an array of shades. I think on a whole, the season calls for shiny, reflective, pretty makeup. Gossamer, ethereal. Something you can use now and use later, as it never goes out of style. GL A SS/GLOSS

SCULPTR A

Speaking of sculpting, Sculptra is unlike anything else on the market. Think of it as a “booster shot” to stimulate your own collagen production. As we age, our face can hollow out and our jaw and cheekbones appear sharper. Sculptra targets those areas, creating a youthful fullness that lasts longer than other dermal fillers.

PR P H A IR A ND SK IN R EJU V EN ATION

If you’re in your 50s and ready to take your natural beauty to the next level, PRP Hair and Skin Rejuvenation is the best next step. Our skin doesn’t renew itself as naturally as it once did, leading to a loss of firmness and deeper wrinkles. That’s where Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) comes in. We love that it uses your own rich plasma to stimulate new cell growth, giving you a more radiant and regenerated appearance, which lasts up to two full years.

The Best Cosmetic Procedures for Men For many men, non-invasive cosmetic procedures can help you capture the look of confidence. From a chiseled chin to fuller hair and toned abs, The Look has an array of procedures that can get you the skin and body that turns heads and makes you feel great. Below are our top five favorite procedures that give men an edge. BOTOX / DYSPORT

Botox is still the number one treatment for smoothing unwanted wrinkles, and men are getting Botox in record numbers. Botox can prevent new wrinkles from forming, treat under eye bags, and even slim your face when used to relax the masseter muscles. Botox has even further uses, including the treatment of hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating) in the hands, feet and armpits. It’s safe when injected by a board certified professional and one of the most affordable cosmetic treatments available. KYBELLA

Sixty-seven percent of people surveyed say they are bothered by fat beneath their chin, according to the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery. Kybella is an injectable treatment that dissolves fat, and works best for men under 50. Once that fat is gone, it’s gone for good! Kybella can help men get and maintain that chiseled look. CHIN AU G MEN TAT I O N

Kybella will be even more effective when paired with fillers that add length and projection to the chin. Mimicking a chin implant, dermal fillers used for chin augmentation can complement and balance the face without surgery.

PL ATELE T R ICH PL A SM A (PR P) FOR H A IR LOSS

It’s estimated that PRP skin rejuvenation is fast becoming one of the most popular nonsurgical anti-aging treatments. Each year almost 15 million minimally invasive cosmetic procedures are performed, according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. PRP uses a patient’s own rich plasma to stimulate new cell growth. Hair loss and microneedling applications are very common applications for PRP. CO O L S CU L P T I N G /CO O LTO N E

At The Look, we are very excited about the results we’re seeing with two new procedures we’re offering: CoolSculpting and CoolTone. These treatments are ideal for men who want to tone and refine areas of stubborn fat, including the abdomen, thighs, underarms and under the bottom. We use CoolSculpting to “de-bulk” fatty areas and CoolTone to “sculpt” muscles. CoolSculpting has less risk than liposuction because it’s noninvasive and utilizes a fat freezing technology called Cryolipolysis that comes with zero downtime and recovery. CoolTone is a body contouring device that uses Magnetic Muscle Stimulation (MMS) technology to strengthen, tone and firm the muscles.

Finally, keep in mind that good skin starts with good skin care. The foundation of any cosmetic procedure is using skin care products that promote your healthiest skin. We would love to help you decide what treatment and skin care routine is best for you! Call us to schedule a consultation today at (615) 814-2150.

W H AT IS COOL SCULP TING?

H OW LO N G D O CO O L S CU L P T I N G R E S U LT S L A S T ?

CoolSculpting is an FDA-approved treatment for getting rid of stubborn fat cells in the body, using a fat freezing technology called Cryolipolysis. This exciting technology targets those tough and persistent fat cells permanently, helping the body eliminate these cells naturally, jumpstarting the process through the application of freezing temperatures.

Visible changes in your treatment area may be seen in as soon as one to three months post-treatment. The CoolSculpting process begins at your initial treatment date, however the real magic happens gradually over an extended amount of time, and final results may take six months or more while your body works to eliminate the dead fat cells.

W H AT A R E THE SIDE EFFEC T S OF W HO IS A GOOD C A NDIDATE FOR

COOLSCULPTING?

COOLSCULPTING?

The most common side effects of CoolSculpting are redness, minor swelling, bruising, tenderness and numbness in the treated area as a result of the intense cold temperature. These occurrences typically dissipate in one to two weeks in most cases.

CoolSculpting is not a treatment for weight loss and works best in patients who wish to target specific stubborn areas of fat that have not responded to diet and exercise. CoolSculpting is a great alternative for anyone who prefers to avoid anesthesia and more invasive surgical procedures.

HOW IS THE PROCEDURE PERFORMED? IS IT SAFE?

CoolSculpting is the number one FDA-approved nonsurgical treatment for fat reduction, and clinical trials have proven it to be a safe and effective way to reduce fat in specifically targeted areas of the body, similar to Kybella.

Depending on which area of the body we are treating, you may be seated in a comfortable chair or lying on your stomach. A cool gel pad will be applied to your skin on the treatment zone, and then the CoolSculpting applicator is applied, at which point you feel the tingling and tugging sensations. The applicator will remain on each treatment area for approximately 35 minutes. After the treatment, we’ll do a brief massage on the treatment zone to help break up the treated fat cells and enhance fat reduction.

DOES COOLSCULPTING HURT?

When the treatment begins, you may notice slight discomfort (tugging or stinging) for the first few minutes. Most patients are not bothered by these sensations and spend the time during their treatment reading a book or catching up on phone calls and email.

H OW LO N G D O E S R ECOV ERY TA K E ?

Most patients experience little to no downtime after treatment and return to their normal activities. This treatment is so easy it can even be performed during your lunch break!
