ACTING TEXAS COMPTROLLER AND FORMER TEXAS STATE SENATOR
Kelly Hancock
Kelly Hancock is a lifelong Texan, devoted husband, father, and grandfather whose personal story is one of perseverance, faith, and public service. Diagnosed with a rare kidney disease as a young adult, Kelly refused to let the diagnosis define him. He built a family business from the ground up, ran marathons, and served his community—all while quietly managing a chronic illness. In 2022, he received a life-saving kidney transplant from a living donor, his son-in-law; a gift that renewed his strength and deepened his gratitude for life, family, and service.
Kelly’s commitment to public service began as a young father advocating for quality education for his children. He served over a decade on his local school board before being elected to the Texas Legislature, where he dedicated nearly 20 years to improving the lives of Texans.
Among his many accomplishments in the Texas Senate, Kelly authored SB 1249, a significant achievement that established the Texas Living Donor Education Program. This initiative aims to develop and deliver education to raise critical awareness about living organ donation, reflecting his personal connection to the cause and his commitment to impactful legislation.
Today, Kelly serves as Acting Texas Comptroller, working to strengthen the state’s economy. Married to his wife, Robin, for 38 years, they have two daughters, one son, and are proud grandparents to six tiny Texans.
