FROM THE PASTOR'S DESK

A Season of Rejuvenation and Resurrection

Spring is a wonderful season, for it brings cleansing rains, abundant sunshine, and a clear view of God’s hand in His world. It is, for our bodies and souls, truly, a season of rejuvenation.

To prepare ourselves for this, we must understand what we face:

• Seasons: a chapter where certainty is a myth, change is a fact, and everything has a purpose.

• Struggles: the tension between where you are and where you are destined to be.

• Storms: unpredictable disruptions that test the foundation upon which your life is built.

For most, “storms” have a powerful, negative association. However, remember that the job of a storm is to test the foundation; “testing” does not always mean “destroying.”

If your foundation survives the test, then you know that it is strong and supported by Christ. If your foundation does not, then you are given a chance to rebuild it in obedience to God’s plan. As Paulo Coelho, international best-selling author of The Alchemist said, “Not all storms come to disrupt your life, some come to clear your path.”

This is a time to prayerfully reflect on our blessings and ask for our Savior’s continued guidance along the path that He has prepared for us. For many, an element of rejuvenation is “spring cleaning.” Just as we open a window to let fresh air and light brighten up a living room, let us open our hearts and minds to the refreshing voice of God.

In celebrating the joy of Easter and the Resurrection of Christ, let us use this season to clean out the hurt, fear, and sadness of previous seasons, so that we have room in our lives for love, joy, and, in every aspect, faith in Jesus. Let us allow ourselves to be transformed by His grace, to renew our commitment to His way, and to grow in the likeness of Christ. As Romans 12:2 (NIV) teaches, “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”

At Lighthouse, this is an integral time in our year of Significant Advancement. On New Year’s Eve, the Church outlined several ways in which you would see significant advancement as you walk with us. I am very proud to say that we are already delivering on those declarations. In the following pages, you will read about the beginning of several of our new life groups, the reimagined and expanded Cry Out Conference, and the powerful response of your Church to hurting communities in Los Angeles.

In this season, we have myriad opportunities to support and uplift each other. Talk to your friends. Hug your families. Even by simply reaching out to a neighbor with a kind word, we can rejuvenate their hearts – and ours, too.

“But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”

- Isaiah 40:31 (NIV)

Take care of yourself; take care of each other; and, always, trust that God will take care of us.

I love you dearly,

THE MOUNTAIN MEN Transformation through impact

THE LIGHTHOUSE CHURCH’S MOUNTAIN MEN kicked off the year with a STRIKING Event! In February, the Mountain Men from each campus rolled into the new year, literally! The guys laced up their bowling shoes and hit the lanes, striking up meaningful conversations while knocking down some pins.

This event wasn’t just about perfecting your game, it was about building brotherhood. Amid the friendly competition, laughter, and high-fives, new friendships were also formed.

Several newcomers who recently joined TLHC even spared some time to jump in on the fun.

This event reminded everyone that church isn’t just about Sundays. It’s about community, connection, and doing life together.

THE MOUNTAIN MEN LIFE GROUP is more than just a gathering, it’s a brotherhood dedicated to ministry, mentorship, and managing individuals while creating life-changing connections.

Recently, those pillars were powerfully displayed in the life of one young man

whose journey took a dramatic turn through the group’s mentorship program. Ahead of one of their recent events, the leaders of the Mountain Men Life Group received a phone call from a mother. She shared that her son’s friend had been experiencing difficulties at home with his family, ultimately leading to him being put out of his house. With nowhere to turn, the young man found a place of refuge at their home. The mother wanted to ensure it was OK with TLHC leaders for the young man to attend the mentorship event with her son the following day.

The two young men were able to go to the Mountain Men event together, unknowingly stepping into a life-changing moment.

During the gathering, the mentors posed a simple yet profound question: “How many of you believe in prayer?”

The young man, still carrying the weight of his personal struggles, shared that he did not believe. His experiences within his family had led him to think that his prayers had never been answered. At that moment, those in the room said that the atmosphere shifted. The mentors, along with his peers, gathered around him while ministering words of encouragement and faith.

Pastor Hammond said that he spoke directly with the young man and shared with him that, “Even though your circumstances are not ideal, you needed to be in this room today.”

At that point, Pastor Hammond shared that there was hardly a dry eye in the place from both the mentors and the mentees.

A member of TLHC and a mentor within the group shared that he felt the weight of the moment in a deeply personal way. He said that he had once been that young man who felt abandoned, unheard, and hopeless. With raw honesty, he shared his testimony, revealing that he also had faced moments of despair, even suicidal thoughts.

He shared with the young man, “Don’t ever give up. Even though things may not be where you want them to be right now, don’t take where you are for granted. God is still with you.”

The Mountain Men Life Group is about transformation, and in that sacred moment, the young man who felt unseen and burdened by his biological family found a genuine brotherhood within TLHC.

THIS IS THE POWER OF MENTORSHIP. THIS IS THE IMPACT OF THE MOUNTAIN MEN.

If you or someone you know needs guidance, support, or simply a brotherhood to walk alongside, the Mountain Men Life Group is ready and waiting to grow in Christ together.

BLACK HISTORY: 365 DAYS a year DID YOU KNOW?

BLACK HISTORY MONTH IS MORE THAN A MONTH OF CELEBRATION.

It’s a reminder to reflect on the strength of the past, continue to educate others on the importance of the culture, and spread inspiration and encouragement for the coming generations. It’s a moment to honor the trailblazers who shaped history, the unsung heroes whose contributions built communities, and the rich culture that continues to influence every part of our lives.

While we often hear about well-known figures, there are countless stories of resilience, innovation, and triumph that many may not know. As we shine a light on these little-known yet powerful moments in Black history, may we be reminded that our past is not just history—it is the foundation of our future.

THE SOUL STIRRERS were one of the most influential gospel groups in American music history, known for their rich harmonies, deeply spiritual messages, and powerful performances. The singers started as a quartet group in 1926 in Trinity, Texas. Over the years, the group went through numerous lineup changes but remained rooted in gospel tradition. In the early years, their sound was based heavily on call-and-response styles and harmonies, influenced by the rich gospel music traditions of the African American church. The Soul Stirrers are often considered one of the greatest gospel groups in history though they get little recognition. Their music helped open the doors for gospel artists to gain wider audiences while maintaining their spiritual integrity. They were inducted into the Gospel Music Hall of Fame in 1989, and their recordings continue to inspire generations of musicians and gospel fans.

HOW’S THAT FOR A SIGNIFICANT ADVANCEMENT?

PROUD TO BE BLACK

This Black History Month, The Lighthouse Church proudly produced a powerful spoken word piece by our talented member, Natalian Brooks a.k.a Duece Duece The Poet.

We are more than the Black history this country was built on

We are the Black currently that our communities thrive on

We strive on, Be alive on every platform

Because representation matters

Just as much as our lives

We’ve lived unapologetically in every lifetime

Be the life and the bloodline

The culture most imitated

The brilliant minds behind the greatest and most innovated

Whether it be science or fashion

Education or music

It’s becoming undeniable that the melanated are some of the best to ever do it

We been making lemonade out of lemons since Jesus made wine out of water

We make something out of nothing with grace and divine order

We are more than our skin and a month of celebration

We are the survivors and overcomers of our past generations

We made beautiful out of broken

Given up on being hopeless We create joy even when it seems easier to fold

We carry happiness like audacity, smiling vibrantly bold

Despite the uphill battles and the endless fights we have to swing,

We carry culture through generations like a river to the sea.

We push forward no matter how much we are trying to be pushed back.

We are forever. We are endless. We are proud to be Black.

LIGHTFEST L.A.

On Jan. 7, 2025, a few thousand Americans woke up to what they expected to be another normal day underneath the California skies but were quickly ambushed by an unprecedented, devastating, unbelievable tragedy that would ultimately end up altering their entire lives.

Over the course of 24 days, a continuous series of seven catastrophic wildfires broke out across the Los Angeles metropolitan area and San Diego County.

According to USA Today, more than 12,000 homes, businesses, schools, and other structures were destroyed by these fires. About 80,000 people were displaced after the fires hit various cities, such as Altadena, Pasadena, and Pacific Palisades. Additionally, news outlets have confirmed that a total of 29 people lost their lives as a direct result of this situation.

While watching the tragedy unfold on television, Pastor Keion and Lady Shaunie were compelled to step up,

immediately offering words of encouragement and embrace to those finding themselves suffering. The vision was spearheaded by Lady Shaunie, whose roots are in L.A.

“L.A. means so much to me,” First Lady Shaunie Henderson said. “Not only is it my hometown, but my family and close friends currently live there and have been directly impacted by the recent fires. My husband and I simply could not stand by and watch this happen. We felt compelled to use the resources we have to help out. And what better way to do that than to provide a sense of escape and relief for some of the families who are journeying through this difficult time.”

After doing some research about giveback options in Los Angeles, Lady Shaunie and her team quickly realized they had found a phoenix rising out of the ashes and a rose growing out of the concrete!

Pasadena’s Rosebud Academy suffered irreparable destruction during the fires, causing everything within the school to be completely burned and leaving a few hundred students not knowing where, or even how, they would continue to learn and play together. Shawn Brown, the Principal and Director of Rosebud Academy, shared with Lighthouse that not only was she dealing with the very daunting task of rebuilding the academy but that her home was destroyed in the fires. For her, this caused an overwhelming sense of despair despite her continuous efforts to rebuild the school for her students.

“From this experience, we are going to be better from it. We’re going to rebuild, we’re going to be better off, and we’re just going to thrive,” Principal Brown said. “And we have t-shirts now (that say) ‘Out of the Ashes, We BLOOM.’”

So, TLHC did what it does BEST! Showed up, and God SHOWED OUT!

As soon as Principal Brown made Lady Shaunie and her team aware of all she had been dealing with, personally and professionally, the team knew it would be blessed by becoming a blessing by providing aid to her and the academy in any way possible. The Lighthouse Church and Ministries team rallied together and pulled off a one-of-a-kind event entitled, LIGHTFEST L.A. During the event, TLHC’s partners and staff were able to show the LOVE of The Lighthouse in L.A. by showering the students, staff, and families of Rosebud with a stressfree day, including free food, soft drinks, and of course, free game cards!

More than 300 students and their families enjoy the evening with dozens of arcade games, an unlimited candy table, a balloon artist, a churro stand, and so much more!

Single’s Life Group Launch

Our latest Life Group launch was the Singles Ministry, under the vision of Pastor Keion and the leadership of Sis. KaiPei. This group was created specifically for those attending our church who may either be struggling with their singleness or celebrating their individual lifestyle while still aiming to lead a Godly life.

This will be a safe place for those who are single to have candid conversations, ask intentional questions, and grow closer to Christ.

Their very first event was held at TLHC the day after Valentine’s Day, reminding us that we have a God-sent village of love surrounding us, especially within our Church family.

WITH CRY OUT CON 2025 ONLY A FEW DAYS AWAY, TLHC ASKS, “ARE YOU ALL IN?”

Now in its third year, Cry Out Con is the premier transformational breakthrough event in the nation, designed to inspire, empower, and uplift individuals on their journey to personal and spiritual growth. It is a beacon of hope for those seeking to elevate their lives emotionally, spiritually, and financially.

Meeting at the crossroads of faith and culture, Cry Out Con provides a dynamic platform for world-class inspirational speakers to connect with audiences—particularly young people—encouraging them to confront their pain, overcome life’s challenges, and unlock their fullest potential.

“When I envisioned the first Cry Out event, my goal was to create a safe space for people to admit where they actually are, while at the same time empowering people looking to realize their full potential. Over the past three years, we have witnessed Cry Out become a movement among people of every background to find their place in God’s plan for their life. We cannot be ALL IN for God if we are not ALL IN for ourselves: in relationships, in finances, in our jobs, in our families. At Cry Out, we will fortify each attendee in these areas and empower one another to move forward. Although our individual journeys are unique, we are, together, on one path for the prize of the upward call.”

This year’s theme addresses Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the ever-growing role that it has in our daily lives, especially in such an interconnected, global community.

Now, does that mean robots are going to be delivering sermons on stage? No! However, the prevalence of AI is not unlike the prevalence of God in our lives. This is how our theme was developed: taking “AI” and, just as society–from Fortune 100 companies to high school and university students–goes “all in” on this artificial intelligence and automation of so many daily processes, challenging ourselves and each other to be just as impressed by, just as embracing of, and just as “ALL IN” on our faith and daily connection with our Savior.

Fostered in a space of intentional action, Cry Out Con brings each person closer to God in authentic recognition of His Spirit and an unwavering desire to shift the seasons of life. Through the act of “Crying Out,” individuals inspire a resolute commitment to embrace a higher calling, overcome obstacles, and ascend to a destiny of beautiful purpose and spiritual fulfillment.

“In many aspects of our culture, there has been a segregation between the stereotypical view of ‘church’ and what is considered mainstream. We are breaking this barrier by showing that God’s teachings impact every element of our lives. When you look at the speakers, experts, and performers coming to this event, it is clear

that we are leading a shift in this paradigm and merging faith and worship back into the daily conversations of society. What Cry Out demonstrates is that faith is not only relevant today but can be a driver of positive cultural change and influence in the world.”

- Lady Shaunie Henderson

Comedian, actor, and entrepreneur DC Young Fly will bring his unique blend of humor and insight in a mainstage conversation at Cry Out Con. Le’Andria Johnson, the award-winning gospel artist, will deliver a powerful musical performance, uplifting the spirit and connecting attendees to a deeper sense of purpose. But the performances don’t stop there. Anointed singer Todd Dulaney, will also hit the stage for an electrifying worship that ushers all under the sound of his voice to Cry Out. Cry Out Con will be hosted by FOX26 Anchor Anthony Antoine.

In addition to the empowering conference experiences, Cry Out Con 2025 includes Cry Out After Hours, an exciting Saturday night concert headlined by gospel legend Kirk Franklin and rising star Madison Ryann Ward. The night promises an unforgettable musical experience, blending inspiration and entertainment as these dynamic artists take the stage. With performances that celebrate faith, hope, and unity, Cry Out After Hours is set to be a highlight of the weekend, connecting everyone in praise and worship as we continue the transformative journey at Cry Out Con.

“AT

CRY OUT, WE WILL FORTIFY EACH ATTENDEE IN THESE AREAS AND EMPOWER ONE ANOTHER TO MOVE FORWARD.” - PASTOR KEION HENDERSON

“WHAT CRY OUT DEMONSTRATES IS THAT FAITH IS NOT ONLY RELEVANT TODAY BUT CAN BE A DRIVER OF POSITIVE CULTURAL CHANGE AND INFLUENCE IN THE WORLD.”
- LADY SHAUNIE HENDERSON

WE TAKE ACTION

THIS IS NOT YOUR TYPICAL BIBLE STUDY.

Each week, Pastor Keion shares The Word of God with viewers for a mid-week lesson we like to call, Take Action. The timely message, which can be found on his Youtube channel @KEIONHENDERSONTV, ranges across various topics that are based on biblical knowledge with the intention to help guide and equip us for challenges we may face in our day-to-day Christian journey.

PK takes this time every Tuesday to have a different, untraditional approach to teaching by leading through conversation and having real-time interaction with viewers who provide feedback and testimonies during the discussion. In 2024, the most viewed Take Action on YouTube entitled 13 Things Mentally Strong People Do had 107K viewers, showing the relevancy of the spoken word as well as how many people are seeking spiritual guidance to aid in their mental well-being.

As we move into the future, Take Action will continue to be more than just a mid-week teaching—it has turned into a movement, inspiring thousands of viewers to actively engage with their faith and prioritize personal growth each day, not just Sunday morning. Whether you’re tuning in for practical lessons or finding guidance for life’s challenges, Tuesdays have become a sacred space for reflection and transformation.

Click the image below to join us each week as we continue to Take Action together, building stronger relationships with Christ and making a lasting impact on the lives of one another.

THERE’S SOMETHING ABOUT BAKING THAT REMINDS ME OF FAITH.

Maybe it’s the patience required, the trust in the process, or the way simple ingredients, on their own, come together to create something beautiful. Faith is a lot like that. It takes time, trust, and a willingness to believe that what we’re mixing together will turn out just right.

The very first recipe I ever had for a pound cake came from my beloved mother. As a beginner baker, she didn’t want me to be overwhelmed, so she started me off easy. Just like faith – she knew I had to start somewhere, to build my confidence, to learn the basics before I could create something on my own.

At first, I followed her instructions to the letter, carefully measuring each ingredient, blending the eggs, sugar, and butter just as she told me. It felt safe and secure. But over time, I started experimenting on my own. I learned the way different ingredients reacted, how a little extra patience made the cake softer, and

That’s the beauty of faith, too. We start by following what we’ve been taught, trusting the wisdom of those who came before us.

Then, as we grow and Significantly Advance through life we develop our own relationship with God. We learn that faith isn’t just about rules – it’s about a journey, about understanding, about finding our own rhythm while staying grounded in truth.

I still cherish my mom’s original pound cake recipe, even though I’ve since elevated it into something uniquely mine (a.k.a my top secret recipe).

But no matter how many changes I make, the foundation remains the same – just like faith. We might grow, evolve, and face new challenges, but the core of what we believe, the love and guidance passed down to us, will always be there.

So whether you’re baking for the first time or leaning into faith in a new way, start with the basics, trust the process, and know

The teens of The Lighthouse Church and Ministries had an electrifying time at this year’s Get L.I.F.T.E.D event! More than 100 teenagers connected to TLHC gathered together for a faith-filled night through a balance of fun and fellowship.

From the moment teens arrived at Urban Air in Humble, they were welcomed into an exciting atmosphere filled with interactive activities. The DJ kept the energy high all evening long, while photo ops and games like air hockey and cornhole allowed for plenty of social engagement. And don’t forget about the SWAG Station which was a massive hit, allowing teens to take home some custom merchandise after the event.

This annual event will not just be a fleeting moment but a stepping stone for teens at TLHC to continue Living In Faith to Elevate Daily.

KDZ is staying busy with loads of fun and excitement for your children. Make sure you stay connected!

Throughout our lives, we encounter thousands of people. Some are with us only for a few seconds – a brief “hello” on the sidewalk, a quick smile and handshake at a social event; others, though, stay for much longer, with impacts from our time together often lasting for months, years, or decades. As our society becomes even more interconnected, it is crucial to, as Oprah Winfrey says, “surround yourself with only people who are going to lift you higher.”

Over the past 15 years, to the thousands of members, partners, and staff at The Lighthouse Church and Ministries with whom she brought limitless joy, love, and strength, Jacqueline Williams Ward was absolutely a woman who lifted us higher.

Affectionately known as “Miss Jackie” throughout the Church (and, perhaps, the entire city of Houston?), she served as the Chief Operating Officer for TLHC, helping guide the transformation from hosting service in members’ living rooms to three Houston campuses and an international online audience. Always ready with a hug and smile, she was among the first to greet members and visitors each Sunday. However, her service to the Church extended to every day of the week.

Last year, Miss Jackie transitioned from her role as COO to Leadership Advisor Emerita. (Servant leaders, of course, never truly retire.) To be sure, Miss Jackie is the epitome of a servant leader. Prior to joining TLHC, she was a notable figure in the healthcare and corporate sectors. She earned master’s degrees in both counseling education and business, which prepared her to guide both individuals and organizations towards new heights of growth and achievement.

Through her continued work with the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and the National Council of Negro Women, she remains a mentor and inspiration for women – personally, professionally, and spiritually.

Since her transition from the day-to-day activities of TLHC, Miss Jackie has dived headlong into, quite literally, the next “chapter” of her life by writing her memoir, Chosen from the Beginning: My Life Journey of Growth, Work, and Love. This autobiography was released earlier this year, becoming the first book published through TLHC’s new “One Light One House” publishing entity.

To celebrate this auspicious occasion, and to honor her legacy of leadership, love, and Godly service, the Church hosted a brunch and book signing in her honor on February 22. Emceed by her daughter, Courtney Preston, the ceremony was filled with laughter and joy (and more than a few happy tears), as attendees shared their personal stories of how Miss Jackie “lifted them higher.” Then, Miss Jackie personally thanked each person and signed copies of Chosen from the Beginning.

“My life, like countless others, is forever transformed and made better because Jacqueline Williams Ward is in it,” said Pastor Keion. “I thank God each day for the gift of Miss Jackie. Her legacy to her Church, her community, and, most importantly, to God is one that cannot be copied, and her absolute devotion to His word is a timeless example to us all.”

Following the event, LIGHTHOUSE Magazine sat down with the woman of the hour to reflect on the beautiful impact of her lifetime of selfless service to her friends and neighbors.

Q: What is the one element of which you are most proud, both personally and professionally?

JWW: “The one thing I’m most proud of, personally and professionally, would be my obedience. Obedience to what I believe that God has purposed for me. I say that because I believe that my life and the trajectory of my life has shown that God had purpose for me. I knew my purpose. I recognized what my purpose was: to follow His will and to do it according to His plan, so that I could reach what he ordained me to be. I think the steps that I’ve taken have been because I knew that there was something that was purposed in my life.”

Q: What is the one thing you wish you could change in your personal life and your career?

JWW: “I’m not sure there’s any one thing that I would’ve changed. The way my life was orchestrated in my personal and professional life was done very orderly. I say that because I started out my career in healthcare, which taught me how to have compassion and how to serve. Then, I moved into corporate America, which gave me a broader sense of the world. I was able to work with all different nationalities and people with different expertise, so that was the next chapter. Earning a degree in counseling education was huge for me because it really sharpened all of the tools that I needed to place in my toolbox to be able to work with people and to learn how to mentor, to train, to coach, to do all of those things. How to show empathy and all of those things that are necessary for where I was going. You know, transitioning out of corporate America to serve for the Kingdom – that was it. That was the pivotal point right there. So, I don’t think there’s one thing I can identify that I would change.”

Q: How were you able to balance your lifestyle and career, all while putting your faith in God?

JWW: “You know, I think you just said it. I had to lean on my faith. I had to lean on that foundation that I have. I had to encourage myself, surround myself with like-minded people who were like-minded in the faith and who were supporters and encouraging individuals in my life. The balance came by standing firm on what I believe, and trusting in God, knowing that God had me at all times and feeling fully convinced that I was in the will of God, and that I was doing what he had purposed me to do.”

Q: What were some transferable skills you brought to TLHC from the healthcare and corporate sectors?

JWW: “The most transferable skill from my healthcare career would be the ability to serve. Learning how to serve and demonstrating empathy. But, between healthcare and The Lighthouse was corporate America, and that’s where I received probably the greatest skill set because I was in leadership. I retired as a Vice President and Trust Officer of AIG Federal Savings Bank, where I had the opportunity to work in various areas of financial services. Being in senior management, I had managed all different levels of teams throughout my career, which prepared me for what was to come with The Lighthouse. And I would ask myself from time to time, ‘Why am I doing this?’ I worked with legal; I worked with finance people. I worked with social teams and all sorts of things. Sometimes different things at the company were happening, and I’m like, ‘OK. This has nothing to do with what I’m doing.’ But it all came into play when I transitioned to work for The Lighthouse. So, all in all, I had accumulated a number of skills that were in my toolbox,

preparing me for The Lighthouse (and things) that I had absolutely no clue about. But, I guarantee you I used each one of those skills.”

Q: What advice would you give to your 25-year-old self?

JWW: “Oh goodness, I think the advice I would give to my 25-year-old self would be to enjoy life a little more. I was so grounded in what I was doing at all times in my life. I think I could have probably loved, laughed, and danced more. All of those things. My advice would be to take more time for myself. I think that’s something that we get so involved in what we’re doing that we fail at times of taking care of ourselves.”

Q: What would you tell God that you are most grateful for in your faith walk?

JWW:“The one thing I will say to God is, ‘God, I’m so grateful for keeping me focused. Keeping me focused and staying on the solid foundation, knowing that You had a plan for me. I’m so grateful that I stood the test. I stood the test knowing that there was something at the end, and that I would achieve what He had purposed for me and for my life. Of course, there’s more to come. But, I’m so, so grateful for that. I’m grateful that He gave me the ability to exhibit tenacity.”

JWW:“I want people to know that if you really seek what your purpose is in life, and you follow it, you will receive the reward. God’s word is real. It is real. No matter what profession or what you choose to do in life, just seek God’s face and what it is that He has for you.”

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. ”

Jeremiah 29:11

EARLIER THIS YEAR, Pastor Keion released an updated version of his best-selling book, The Shift: Courageously Moving from Season to Season. This book is intended to help readers understand how to navigate and shift strategically in each season of their lives.

Whether the ebbs and flows of your life have seemed to give you more valleys than mountains, Pastor Keion shares direct insight on how to survive the shift.

The re-release of this book features three new chapters that were created to help readers go even further in surviving and thriving in the recent shifts in our culture, as well as encouraging them to shift into living a life of legacy and purpose. Shifts don’t just happen once a lifetime – they are constant. Much like the changing seasons, they often arrive without warning. The tools and mindset that carried you through the last season may no longer serve you in the one ahead, and what worked then won’t necessarily equip you for the challenges and opportunities of the present moment.

Oftentimes, believers and non-believers alike may fall into the trap of thinking things are one way or the other. Typically, most

people overlook the fact that there are times of transition, such as the seasons between graduation and an amazing job, between divorce and remarriage, or between a failure and a success.

In The Shift, Pastor Keion outlines that the key to getting from one season in life to the next is recognizing that there must be a period between the mistake and the mastery. Between what happened today and who you become tomorrow. To make the most of the shift, you must be willing to shift your paradigm from victim to victor.

“Shifting requires a painful price be paid in the spaces between losing and gaining, giving and receiving. In God’s economy, however, the price is always purposeful,”

- Pastor Keion D. Henderson.

The Shift is intended to help readers survive difficult seasons with the courage that comes when you are sure of God’s purpose for your life.

The Shift: Courageously

EXODUS 30

22 Then the Lord said to Moses, 23 “Take the following fine spices: 500 shekels[d] of liquid myrrh, half as much (that is, 250 shekels) of fragrant cinnamon, 250 shekels[e] of fragrant calamus, 24 500 shekels of cassia—all according to the sanctuary shekel—and a hin[f] of olive oil. 25 Make these into a sacred anointing oil, a fragrant blend, the work of a perfumer. It will be the sacred anointing oil. 26 Then use it to anoint the tent of meeting, the ark of the covenant law, 27 the table and all its articles, the lampstand and its accessories, the altar of incense, 28 the altar of burnt offering and all its utensils, and the basin with its stand. 29 You shall consecrate them so they will be most holy, and whatever touches them will be holy.

AT THE BEGINNING OF EACH YEAR,

all campuses of The Lighthouse Church and Ministries join together in fellowship for corporate prayer, a dedicated and sacred time for everyone connected to TLHC to be on one accord and seek God. During this time, attendees are encouraged to start off the year by sowing spiritually unto The Lord in anticipation of an abundant harvest within the next 12 months.

For 2025, hundreds of members from the congregation convened at TLHC’s West Campus. Once the service commenced, leaders from the four campuses brought multiple different elements to the altar to place into a specifically designed anointing oil, with all of the items bearing significant meaning.

Pastor Keion, Bishop Roberts, and Pastor Hammond handmade the anointing oil for those who wished to be blessed, intentionally crafting it to create a symbolic meaning. While preparing the oil, PK thoughtfully explained to the crowd that he would be using the following four separate key components to create it from scratch.

MYRRH

The first spice introduced to the oil by Pastor Keion was Myrrh. Most people are familiar with this specific spice after hearing the story of the birth of Jesus Christ, with the three wise men bringing the newborn Franckense and Myrrh. But, many may not truly have understood what meaning that bore during His birth.

Myrrh comes directly from a sap tree and was noted as historically being used after death to embalm bodies. The reason Myrrh was put into the oil was to signify that in order to begin creating the anointing oil, you must first be willing to die to yourself.

If you just have the oil, but you omit the myrrh, then you are making yourself present in the mix, leaving God no room to send an overflow.

CINNAMON

Several pieces of cinnamon were ground and placed within the oil as a representation of integrity. Pastor Keion shared that cinnamon originates from the bark on the inside of a tree native to Sri Lanka. That specific tree can only grow from the ground up, in a straight direction. He revealed to us that growing up straight is a representation of the process of integrity. Furthermore, Pastor Keion reminded us that having integrity means that you always stay true even when no one is watching. “After you die to self, can you be trusted?” Pastor Keion questioned.

He also prayed not only for us to find a network of individuals who we trust, but to also become a person worthy of receiving trust from others.

CALAMUS

Next, Pastor Keion incorporated the calamus plant which is often found in the same area as the cinnamon. These plants are commonly seen during westernized funeral services but many of us may have never heard the true meaning behind them. The calamus plant represents humility, and, when it’s crushed, it releases a fragrant aroma. Pastor Keion created a correlation between that plant and some of our lives when we are in a season of having to endure the pressing.

“God says, ‘I can’t anoint you unless you’re humbled, and I definitely can’t anoint you if you haven’t been crushed,’” said Pastor Keion. “The crushing actually translates to worship. The only reason why God crushes you is so that you can cry to him. The only reason God crushes you is because he’s saying, ‘Your worship doesn’t come from your strong state, so I have to put you in a weakened state.’”

CASSIA

Lastly, Pastor Keion joined the Cassia plant with the oil. This plant specifically and exclusively grows in high altitudes, symbolizing Significant Advancement in your life as long as you heed the word of God. Cassia is also known to be a natural cleansing agent, representing the holiness and purity of God.

This is fitting for the early quarter of our year as many people begin preparing for their ‘spring cleaning’ phase. As you might do in your home, it is important to do the same practice within yourself and for your spirit. Searching yourself, and inviting God to purge the impurities from within, will aid in your elevation.

‘’One of the worst things you can do is say you want to grow and remain you,” Pastor Keion said. “It’s impossible.”

Once prepared and blessed, the oil serves as a continuous reminder of the willingness to “die to yourself”, endure the crushing, and be cleansed through Jesus, so that God can create a path for elevation.

Every attendee received their own portion to take home and use to bless their homes, their families throughout the new year.

Following our anointing service, Pastor Keion, Bishop Roberts, Pastor Hammond, and the entire church spoke powerful prayers imploring God to improve and restore finances for the year ahead, uplift the children connected to TLHC, and protect against sickness and diseases in the coming months.

volunteer SPOTLIGHT

At TLHC, we are grateful for the love, compassion, and joyful spirits that our partners bring to the Church every day.

It is a testament to the incredible glory of God that more than 400 people are willing to share their gifts with our members and staff each week.

In LIGHTHOUSE, we spotlight one partner from each campus for their contributions to significantly advancing the work of our Church and celebrate the unique influence that they have in cultivating God’s love and light.

These are their stories…

Sometimes, the next destination that God plans for us is much closer than we think.

After relocating to Houston, Cheria Anderson was seeking a local church. Her search led her to initially following TLHC online, and, Anderson says, “the energy and presence of God flowed through my television as I watched…Sunday after Sunday, the preached word was not only powerful, but also deeply relatable.”

Eventually, her sister encouraged her to visit TLHC in person; Anderson, however, was hesitant. “I had no idea Humble was so close to where I live in Houston. I thought, ‘I’m not driving that far every Sunday.’” When she realized, though, that the North campus is only 32 minutes away from her home (a breeze by Houston standards!), she visited one Sunday. “The love and hospitality I experienced were unmatched. I knew immediately: I’m in the right place.”

Call of Dut y: Cheria Anderson

NORTH CAMPUS

For the past 1.5 years, she has served on both the Safety Response Team (SRT) and in the choir. Her interest in both comes from her personal drive to lead and serve. As a SRT member, she is tasked with ensuring a safe worship environment, which “reinforces [her] values of care, vigilance, and service.” In the choir, Anderson expresses herself “creatively and emotionally” and creates shared joy in worshipping with her fellow members on stage and in the audience–both in person and online. When not serving at TLHC, Cheria is a Quality Control Compliance Auditor for the National Guard Bureau and the owner/operator of a food truck and catering business.

Anderson’s passion for service, teamwork, and protecting others has been manifest throughout her life, especially during her 11year basketball career as a small forward, during which she was–she says with a BIG smile –“fierce in defending the opponent.”

“Serving on the SRT and singing with the choir fulfill me in complementary ways – one through safety and service, the other through expression and connection,” Anderson said. “These roles bring balance: one engages my protective instincts, skills, and sense of duty, while the other nurtures my spirit and connection with others. Both allow me to serve in different but equally meaningful capacities.”

Have a Great Day on Purpose: Dr. Perneita Price-Sylve

LH ONLINE

Many of us have memories of watching the famous painter Bob Ross create masterpieces, often enhanced by the “happy, little accidents” of a seemingly errant brushstroke. Indeed, it often seems that moments of happiness throughout our days occur “by accident.” However, LH Online partner Dr. Perneita Price-Sylve has made it her mission to show others how to “find their purpose in life ON PURPOSE.”

A native of New Orleans, Louisiana, Dr. Price-Sylve has been a licensed psychologist for 14 years. A unique part of her practice is how she blends the science of psychology with the teachings of God, which she has studied extensively as an ordained minister for the past 28 years.

Like hundreds of thousands of others, she first became connected with TLHC online. “I was leaving a traditional Baptist church where I had been a member for more than 30 years,” Perneita explains. “I prayed and asked God to show me and lead me to my next church family where I could be effective on purpose, and I was led to TLHC.”

Now, Perneita has been serving with LH Online for five years, and she has been instrumental in leading the launch of TLHC’s new Life Groups, especially for members that, like her, do not live in Houston. As an online leader for TLHC, she is helping ensure that whether in her NOLA home – or on one of her annual trips to Dubai and Africa – she, and the thousands of other online members, are always connected to the Church.

In doing so, she is helping empower and embrace a truly global Lighthouse community. “If I had to choose one word to describe how serving has affected my life, it would be ‘community,’” she said. “God has used the people I serve with to encourage me, pray for me, and teach me. My relationship with Jesus and others has flourished as a result. This oneness is best experienced in and through participation in the church by serving and loving one another well.”

Mixing Passion and Purpose: Phillip Jessie

Southeast campus

One of the core values of our Church is to empower individuals, helping them find their God-given potential and supporting them in achieving it throughout this life. At TLHC, we do not believe there is an age restriction on when someone should be empowered, for we know that God calls to each of us according to His plan.

One of the Church’s youngest volunteers is Phillip Jessie, an 18-year-old Doorkeeper at the Southeast campus. Having watched his mother also serve at TLHC, Phillip said he wanted to help, too. “I just thought I could lend a hand,” he said. “It’s really fulfilling to be part of the community and help out in any way I can.”

As a Doorkeeper, Phillip is one of the first people to make contact with members and guests when they arrive on Sundays, and his smile and kindness help create an atmosphere of joyful fellowship each week. Anyone who walks through the doors always mentions his welcoming spirit, and Southeast campus leaders note that “he goes above and beyond, helping with setup, breakdown, and anything else needed around the church. He’s truly the definition of a servant.”

As he looks to the future in his final semester of high school, Phillip already has a career path in mind: he’s planning to become an accountant. In addition to his heart for service, and mind for numbers, Phillip also has a passion for making drinks, saying he would “love to combine [his] accounting skills with mixology someday.”

West Campus Decorating the Heart: Deann Kambeya

Some people have a unique gift that allows them to examine a space and instantly know what does, or does not, belong. For West campus partner Deann Kambeya, this gift has served her quite well in her career as a Certified Interior Decorator.

However, she put her discerning eye to use in a different regard when she was looking for a church in Houston that met her needs. “We needed a church that built on the foundation we had from our previous church: learning the word and walking it out,” Deann said. As she evaluated churches in the area, she became increasingly drawn to TLHC.

After joining the Church, Deann felt the call to become more involved and serve among her friends and neighbors. Since 2018, she has been a constant, cheerful, and welcoming presence at the West campus. Her vibrant personality should not come as a surprise; after all, she is from the same city (Beech Island, South Carolina) where musician James Brown lived for several decades.

When serving each week, Deann says that her fulfillment comes not only from the members and guests, but also the spirit that they foster together. “Serving not only helps me to connect to others within the body, but I feel genuinely connected to God through serving,” said Deann.

Every Sunday, we are all very blessed that Deann “decorates” both our Church and her heart with God’s love.

EASTER 2025 RECAP

On one of the most powerful days of our faith, The Lighthouse Church and Ministries brought thousands of members together–both in-person and online–in an electrifying atmosphere of praise and worship to honor Jesus’ victory over death and give thanks for His gift of eternal life. During his sermon, Pastor Keion called on our congregation to journey together in the Light of our RISEN Savior.

For the first time in its nearly 16-year history, TLHC hosted service at the NRG Arena in Houston, which allowed more than 7,000 people to unite in joyful fellowship and authentic worship of the blessings of God. In keeping with the Church’s promise of Significant Advancement in 2025, Resurrection Sunday included a very special guest performer: Grammy Award-winning artist FANTASIA!

Her incredible talent shines in any setting, but to enjoy it while surrounded by God’s Spirit and Might was truly empowering and unforgettable. Her testimony and performance uplifted our hearts, invigorated our voices, and moved us all, as one body, down the path of our walk with Christ.

“The Spit That Spoke” for Take Action Now, drawing parallels between the spit God used as a tool to create Adam at Creation and the spit man used as a weapon against Christ at His crucifixion.

Further, on Good Friday, at the West Campus, Pastor Keion, Bishop Sieon, and Pastor Hammond, along with several of our ministers and elders, led LH Nation through an enlightening teaching of The Last Seven Sayings of Jesus. In addition to bringing us God’s Word, they also explained the meanings and significance of The Last Seven Sayings in terms and examples that resonated with everyone in the audience.

TLHC WOULD LIKE TO CONGRATULATE

Then, on Saturday, our Kids Discovery Zone (KDZ) youth ministry held its annual Easter Eggstravaganza at the North campus. For three hours, KDZ welcomed more than 1,000 kids and families to one of Houston’s largest Easter Egg hunts! During the event, which also included a rock climbing wall, bounce houses, and other family activities, the amount of eggs (and the candy treats inside!) found was surpassed only by the number of laughs, smiles, and hugs shared by the TLHC community.

BIBLE VERSE OF THE MONTH

HEBREWS 11:1

Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.

I believe this verse from Hebrews carries significance because it highlights probably the biggest roadblock for those who haven’t found Christ yet. They can’t get past the “see it to believe it” part of their thought process. What they don’t realize is that they see plenty of God’s work every day. You just have to have an understanding of Him through His word and carry faith in your heart everywhere you go. Then you will see all the signs you could ever ask for!

Think of a time that you had to trust someone at face value, having nothing tangible in front of you to support it. Maybe a friend told you they’d pay you back after borrowing money from you. Maybe you were promised something by your significant other. At the surface level, you don’t necessarily have tangible proof that they will follow through on their promises. However, you trust them because you know and love them. We should trust, love, know, and have faith in God in the exact same way. His word is and always will be good.

Without a clear vision from God, it is easy for us to lose our way. We might start making decisions based on our own desires or the influences from other people and the material world around us. Therefore, when we seek and pray for God’s wisdom and revelation, we are blessed with direction, purpose, and most importantly, a peaceful faith and understanding of God’s will over our lives, allowing us to ‘let go’ and let faith lead us in our endeavors.

As we and TLHC shift through every transitional phase, it is important to remember that there is a vision for where we are headed, both individually and together as a Church and community. Walking by faith and not by sight, we believe that God will be with us every step of the way!
