FROM THE 04PASTOR'S DESK
One of the primary reasons for publishing our inaugural issue now is that May is Mental Health Awareness Month. Although the month is nearly over, the significance of mental health awareness does not diminish. This topic is crucial at any time of the year because of the profound importance that our mental wellness has on our journey through life and our walk with Christ. The Bible assures us in Psalm 34:18, "The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit." This verse reminds us that our struggles, including those related to mental health, are seen and cared for by our compassionate God. Mental health is not just an aspect of our physical existence; it is deeply intertwined with our spiritual health. By acknowledging our mental health needs and seeking support, we honor the wholeness God desires for us.
It is essential to understand that seeking help is a sign of strength and wisdom, not weakness. If you or someone in your life is struggling with mental health issues, I encourage you to reach out for support. Resources such as the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline (800.273.8255) provide immediate assistance, and other resources are available in the following pages. Additionally, our church offers counseling services and support groups to help guide you through life’s challenges. Remember, Jesus taught us to love one another deeply and to bear
each other’s burdens (Galatians 6:2). Let us be a source of encouragement and prayer for those dealing with anxiety, depression, or any mental health challenges.
I know from personal experience that you can find transformative healing and restoration at the intersections of surrender and submission to God. This intimate understanding is one of the reasons I founded TLHC and created the Cry Out Experience. God led me to create an atmosphere that allows each of us to discover and unleash our inherent abilities, gifts, and talents. Whether through worship, prayer, or community, TLHC offers multiple spaces to connect deeply with God, and each other, and find the support and inspiration needed to overcome and thrive: at one of our in-person campuses, online via LH Nation, at Cry Out and other signature events, in your hands via one of my or Lady Henderson’s books, or on social media.
I encourage you to make your mental health a priority and be alert for those who may be struggling and show them compassion. Remember, if you cry out to God, He WILL answer!
May the Lord always keep you & bless you,

09SETTING NEW RECORDS
The Lighthouse Church, in the atmosphere of joyful worship fostered by our congregation members, digital and production teams, and Pastor Keion's followers, continues to reach incredible milestones in its ministries.
In the first quarter of 2024, the Church witnessed:
• 92% increase in stream views
• 86% increase in channel subscribers
• 50% more returning viewers than new viewers
• 29% more streaming hours watched than in the last six months of 2023
In addition, on Easter Sunday, more than 29,000 people viewed Pastor Keion's message live online—marking the largest number of live viewers in TLHC history! Combined with the more than 5,700 in-person members in the North
campus sanctuary over three services, this Easter was the most highly-attended day of worship ever for the Church!
Finally, in May, Lighthouse received its 11,000th registration for LH Nation!
Fourteen years ago, those numbers may have seemed impossible; however, with the vision of Pastor Keion and the commitment of our members, the Church will continue to grow in glory to God!

PRESIDENT BIDEN HONORS
PASTOR HAMMOND
At a gala in Houston on April 7, Pastor Demond Hammond, campus pastor of Lighthouse West, received the President’s Call to Service Award.
“My heart and joy are communitybased,”Hammond said. “I am the happiest as a servant to others in the Lord’s name. It is very humbling to receive this honor, and I am blessed to be able to serve my community through my faith.”
Formerly known as the President’s Lifetime Achievement Award, individuals are eligible for this honor once they have completed 4,000 hours of community service in their lifetime. The Call to Service Award is the highest level of the President’s Volunteer Service Award, created in 2003 by President George W. Bush.
Under the tutelage of his stepfather, who ministered at their hometown church in Virginia, Hammond began teaching Sunday
School at 12 years old and became a licensed minister when he was 14. Hammond was ordained into the church at age 18, just one week before he married his wife, Marcia.
After moving to Houston in 2013, Hammond established a small church in Katy. Through his ministry, he connected with Pastor Keion, and the two quickly formed a friendship built on their faith and passion for community stewardship through God’s word.
As TLHC began to rapidly grow, Pastor Keion asked Hammond to lead the Church’s second satellite campus. The West Campus opened in March 2020.
“I am extremely happy for Pastor Hammond to receive this prestigious honor,” said Pastor Keion. “He is a wonderful man of God, and this award is a reflection of his kind heart and commitment to the people of our community.”

A NIGHT AT LIGHTCHELLA
NOT YOUR TYPICAL BIBLE STUDY
The theme for the evening was “Festival,” and the Praise and Worship Team kicked off the event with a party featuring amazing performances from Favor Anointed, Jerome Wheeler (ModernDayRome), and our very own Director of Worship Sharon Ann, Assistant Director of Worship, and Producer / Editor WoahNa.
This combination block party / Bible study included food trucks, games, and live music outside, followed by a stirring
performance from Gospel recording artist, Billboard chart-topper, and Associate Pastor of Change Church Todd Galberth.
The evening was then capped by a powerful message from Pastor Keion entitled, "After These Things," inspired by Ezra 7.1.

HOW TO HELP
IF SOMEONE YOU KNOW IS EXPERIENCING A MENTAL HEALTH CRISIS…
DO — TAKE IT SERIOUSLY. Always take any mention or indication of suicidal thoughts seriously. Err on the side of caution and seek help. The first goal is to ensure that person’s safety.
DO — LISTEN ACTIVELY. Meet them where they are. Let the person know that you care and are there to support them. Encourage them to seek professional help. Inquire about what is needed to “keep them safe for now.”
DO — OFFER SUPPORT. When someone talks about their feelings, let them express themselves freely and listen without judgment. Refrain from asking questions or making critical statements.
DO — ASK DIRECTLY. If you suspect someone is suicidal, ask them about their thoughts. Phrases such as "Are you thinking about hurting yourself?" can help open the conversation. If the answer is yes, inquire whether a plan has been implemented to execute the suicide or self-harm. If a plan is in place, seek help immediately. Asking them will not make them want to die if they were not considering it before.
DO — REMOVE
ACCESS TO MEANS.
If possible, remove access to any lethal means of self-harm, such as firearms, medications, or sharp objects.
DO —
STAY WITH THE PERSON.
If someone is in immediate danger, stay with them and keep them safe. Do not leave them alone, even if they ask you to.
DO —
ENCOURAGE PROFESSIONAL
HELP. Encourage the person to seek help from a mental health professional, therapist, counselor, or psychiatrist. Offer assistance in finding resources and making appointments.
DO — STAY
CONNECTED.
Continue to check in on the person and provide ongoing support. Loneliness can exacerbate suicidal thoughts. Be on the lookout for suicidal symptoms or warning signs.
DO —
EDUCATE YOURSELF.
Mental health is real. Suicidal thoughts can happen to anyone. Learn about the warning signs of suicide, so you can recognize them in others and take appropriate action.
LIGHTHOUSE Magazine 15
HELPFUL HOTLINES & LIFELINES
DON'T — IGNORE IT. Never ignore or minimize someone's suicidal thoughts or comments. Take them seriously, even if you're unsure of the severity.
DON'T — JUDGE OR BLAME.
Encourage the person to talk to friends, family, or professionals about their feelings. Keeping suicidal thoughts a secret can be dangerous.
DON'T — KEEP IT A SECRET. Avoid making judgmental or critical comments. Do not blame the person for their feelings or situation. You are not telling the person anything that they have not told themselves.
DON'T — LEAVE THEM ALONE. If someone is in immediate danger, do not leave them alone. Stay with them or ensure they are in the care of a trusted person or medical professional.
DON'T — PROMISE CONFIDENTIALITY.
While it's important to be supportive, if someone is at risk of harming themselves, do not promise to keep their suicidal thoughts a secret. Their safety is the top priority.
DON'T — OFFER SIMPLISTIC SOLUTIONS.
Avoid suggesting that the person's problems will easily be resolved. It's essential to acknowledge their pain and encourage professional help. Toxic positivity can make a situation worse. Validate the person’s feelings and hold space for them. Ask if they are looking for solutions before offering your opinion.
DON'T — FORCE THEM TO TALK.
While it's important to encourage conversation, don't pressure the person to talk if they're not ready. Give them time and space, but let them know you're available when they are ready.
DON'T — MAKE IT ABOUT YOURSELF.
Focus on the person who is struggling. Avoid sharing your own problems or making the situation about you.

17SELF CARE TIPS
FOR A HEALTHY MENTAL LIFE
In today’s rush, mental health often takes a back seat. Prioritize self-care to maintain a healthy mind as well as physical well-being. Embracing mindfulness, exercise, and social connections can help manage stress, improve mood, and build resilience. Here are some essential self-care tips to support strong mental well-being and build resilience in the face of life’s challenges:
PRIORITIZE SLEEP.
Prioritize 7-9 hours of quality nightly sleep for optimal health.
PRACTICE DEEP BREATHING.
Spend a few minutes each day practicing deep breathing techniques. This can help reduce stress and promote relaxation.
TAKE BREAKS.
Incorporate short breaks throughout your day to rest and recharge. Step away from your work or tasks, stretch, or take a quick walk.
STAY HYDRATED.
Drink plenty of water throughout the day. Proper hydration is essential for physical health, energy levels and cognitive function.
DECLUTTER YOUR SPACE.
Organize and clean your living and working environment. A tidy space can reduce stress and improve focus.
GET CREATIVE.
Try activities like drawing, writing, cooking, reading, gardening, playing music, or crafting. Creativity can be a great outlet for emotional health and stress reduction.
SET ACHIEVABLE GOALS.
Break down your tasks into manageable goals to help you stay focused, motivated and provide a sense of accomplishment.
STAY CONNECTED.
Maintain strong relationships with friends and family. Social interactions can provide emotional support and reduce feelings of isolation.
SET BOUNDARIES.
Learn to say “no” and set healthy boundaries to avoid burnout. Prioritize your time and energy on the things that matter most to you.
PRACTICE GRATITUDE.
Keep a gratitude journal or take time each day to count your blessings to provide a more positive outlook on life.
BE KIND TO YOURSELF.
Acknowledge your efforts and achievements, no matter how small. Treat yourself as you would a friend.

BIBLE VERSE OF THE MONTH
ROMANS 12:15-18
“Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep. Live in harmony with one another. Do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly. Never be wise in your own sight. Repay no one evil for evil, but give thought to do what is honorable in the sight of all. If possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all.”
This verse carries special meaning during Mental Health Awareness Month. One of the most important components of mental health is having a safe community in which to celebrate, mourn, and worship–in short, to live.
God created us as social creatures, and our capacity for compassion and empathy is, perhaps, our most human trait. When we demonstrate the love that God has
for all of us with each other, we create the atmosphere to grow positive mental health in all of us.
When we are told to “live peaceably with all”--that includes ourselves! The most crucial key to mental health is being at peace with who we are. That does not mean that we stop striving to fulfill God’s purpose for us; rather, it means that His love for us is infinite, and we must accept ourselves as He accepts us.
