PROSPECTUS THE LAKES COLLEGE

Loving God and our neighbours as ourselves – Matthew 22:37-39

We recognise that God delights in diversity and seeks unity among all of Creation, regardless of faith and culture. As a College we strive to be a Christcentred community of love, acceptance and justice, as we create and sustain a culture of peace and harmony. We aim to create a positive and enriching environment based on compassion, forgiveness, mission and service as we help lay the foundations for the development of Christ-centred values encouraging our staff and students to become active and informed members of the wider community.

Our Calling

Do justice, and to love kindness and to walk humbly with your God - Micah 6:8

As a Ministry of the Uniting Church, The Lakes College affirms that we are called to be part of God’s mission of reconciliation and renewing for all Creation. As a result, we uphold a value system based on love, social justice and compassion to all of Creation. We seek to create a harmonious and nurturing environment where our students, staff and community live out these principles, as we strive to be a College of ‘Belonging, Believing and Becoming’.

The Learner Journey at The Lakes College is truly about growing young people of character. A Lakes Learner feels a sense of belonging, has agency, enabling them to navigate challenge, desires always to make a difference and works in partnership with others knowing that collective wisdom and shared responsibility are powerful tools in their becoming. Lakes Learners have a gradual release of responsibility as they journey through our College, with student voice a significant factor. A Lakes Learner relies on the values of Faith, Hope, Love, Courage, Community and Justice to sustain them.

Community & Justice

Here at The Lakes College we are a place of Belongingknowing that all people need to feel connected to and safe in community. As partners in a child’s educational journey, here at TLC, relationships matter every day! Community is about celebrating the authenticity of self and others, a place of true belonging, where uniqueness and diversity are accepted and

to stand alongside the voiceless, the marginalised, the oppressed. Through a commitment to creating a more caring and just world - where people are empowered, where people are heard - we work towards reconciliation.

Believing Faith & Love

The Lakes College is a place of Believing - not only are we an inclusive Christian community that understands faith and welcomes diversity, we aim to grow young people of character, who are confident in what they value and how they can serve community locally and globally. Faith is a place of mystery, where we wrestle with uncertainty. In letting go of the fear of that which is unknown, faith gives us the strength to believe in what we cannot see.

1 John 4:19

Love is having a deep respect and selfless care for all humanity and creation, nurtured by giving without expecting anything in return. ‘We love because God first loved us’.
