Believing Faith & Love

The Lakes College is a place of Believing - not only are we an inclusive Christian community that understands faith and welcomes diversity, we aim to grow young people of character, who are confident in what they value and how they can serve community locally and globally. Faith is a place of mystery, where we wrestle with uncertainty. In letting go of the fear of that which is unknown, faith gives us the strength to believe in what we cannot see. Love is having a deep respect and selfless care for all humanity and creation, nurtured by giving without expecting anything in return. 1 John 4:19 ‘We love because God first loved us’.

Becoming Courage & Hope

The Lakes College is a place for Becoming - offering dynamic and rich programs from Prep to Year 12, that enliven curiosity, build resilience and empower our learners, as they engage in a global world now and into the future. At TLC we are committed to the journey, growing young adults who graduate with qualifications, global understanding and the interpersonal skills that establish them as FUTURE ready. Courage lives in the heart where our vulnerability and new-found bravery meet. It is where we dare to be honest and open about who we are and what we believe. Courage is about standing for what is right, even when it’s uncomfortable. Hope is a gift from God to humanity; thought underpinned by emotion to support humankind through the realities of life. Hope empowers us to survive, endure and seek the next horizon.

Primary School Information Prep Information The 4C’s – Critical thinking, Collaboration, Communication and Creativity are the foundational skills needed in the 21st century workplace and the Prep students at The Lakes College are already on the way to being successful future entrepreneurs. Children have astonishing capability and talents and our challenge is to meet the Australian Curriculum educational expectations while at the same time encouraging a high level of creativity that comes naturally to all children. The Lakes College has found the balance between these two and continues to carry out extensive research in the area of creativity to ensure we are equipping our students with the skills they need for future success. Our Prep year provides a learning environment with exciting things to do, see, touch and experience. Your child will find friends to share with and teachers who respect them as capable and competent learners. We aim to create a relaxed, secure and supportive environment where children are encouraged to investigate, explore and achieve their individual potential.

The Lakes College Primary School provides a nurturing and supportive learning environment for students from Prep to Year 6. The foundations for all future learning are formed during these crucial Primary years and our staff strive to make certain these foundations are solid through engaging and interactive learning experiences. Our Primary staff are dedicated to ensuring your child’s lifelong learning journey gets off to a great start. We believe that for a child to reach their learning potential, they must be happy. Through our 3 B’s – Be Safe, Be Respectful and Be a Learner – we work together to ensure each and every child feels safe enough to take risks as a learner and try new things and are valued as a respected member of our community. Contemporary education is very different to the schooling experiences many adults remember. Learning today is fast paced and involves a variety of mediums. Preparing our students for an unimaginable future is a responsibility we take very seriously. Therefore, the learning experiences in all subjects are explicit, intentional and engaging, encompassing the various learning styles of all our students. A subject specific teaching program for English, Mathematics, HaSS (Humanities and Social Sciences) and Science is introduced in Year 4 and continues in Year 5 and 6. This program ensures all students are receiving the best possible education in all CORE subjects, while building relationships with a team of quality educators for their pastoral and educational needs. It also assists students with a smooth transition from Primary school into Secondary school. The diverse learning experiences which are available to the Primary students all commence in Prep and include specialised lessons in: • • • • • • •

Chinese (Mandarin) Visual Art Instrumental Program – weekly small group instrumental lessons on strings for Year 3 and a choice of strings, woodwind, brass or percussion for Year 4 Music Sport and PE – including interschool sport in Year 4, 5 & 6 Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Religious Education

There’s no denying the impact technology has on a child’s life. At The Lakes College we embrace this exciting element of education with specialist ICT lessons occurring from Year 3 to Year 6, a one to one laptop program in Year 5 and 6 and student access to Ipads and/or computers in all Primary classrooms. All use of technology in the Primary School supports and further enhances the delivery of the curriculum and is monitored to ensure the safety of our students.
