CUO’SEXPERIENCES
As First & Second Year CUO’s what do your responsibilities entail?
CUO C. Liang
My responsibility is to create a safe and positive environment for cadets so that they can enjoy their first year of corps, embrace challenges and step outside their comfort zones, helping them grow as future leaders of the Cadet Corps
CUO J. Sherry
“As a first year CUO my responsibilities are ensuring the overall coordination of my platoon. This includes introducing new cadets to values of the TKSCC, planning and organising the schedule for the platoon during training parades ultimately preparing the first-year cadets for the RPOP and AFX ”
CUO H. Zhang
“As second year CUO, I am entitled to prepare for a more exciting, yet more challenging AFX as second year cadets, whether it is one more day of trek or new second year initiatives, to make the experience enjoyable and rewarding simultaneously.”
CUO J. Zhuang
As a second year CUO, it is important to keep challenging the cadets who’ve come up from first year and show them that there’s more to learn even though they’ve already done a year. Most of all, I challenge them so they’re able to grow into better people and leaders.
CUO’SEXPERIENCES
CUO V. Goel
My responsibilities entail the management and guidance of my cadets through a more rigorous program to build their character, responsibility, and teamwork I also overlook the lessons from NCO’s and empower them through their interactions with the cadets.
What has been your favourite part of the Corps?
CUO C. Liang
“My favorite part of Corps has been the opportunity to meet new peoplethere is something so special about forming new friendships, particularly in the Cadet Corps environment, where I get to learn about myself and my platoon through working together”
CUO J. Sherry
“The best part of cadets is the sense of accomplishment that follows overcoming difficulty. In, the feeling of safely completing a 3-day trek on AFX with your mates with only a compass and a sheet of paper is like no other”
CUO H. Zhang
My favourite part of Corps is probably AFX, where you don't need to bother with any academic stress and can just enjoy the time with friends out in the field.
CUO J. Zhuang
“My favourite part of corps is being able to talk and get to know people you wouldn’t normally talk to. Second to that are the chats by the campfire, trek and confidence course”
CUO V. Goel
AFX has been my favourite part of Corps, as it tests my abilities to work effectively in the field. Being in an unknown environment can be scary but when you’re with your mates, it’s a lot easier to push through and do the hard things.
CUO’SEXPERIENCES
What advice can you give to your Cadets?
CUO C. Liang
“Enjoy the little things about Corps, even if it is just spending time with mates around the campfire, or that time where you got lost on trek, because it will be those little things that resonate with you throughout life - and before you know it, your 4 years in Corps will all be over, so have fun while you can.”
CUO J. Sherry
“Pursue excellence in corps, engaging with activities to your fullest ability At the end of the day, you are there for 3 hours every week whether you try or not, so make sure you utilise your time to the best of your ability.”
CUO H. Zhang
“Make sure that you listen to your CUOs, listen to their advice, and also pack light for AFX. Trekking with a lot of things is a nightmare.”
CUO J. Zhuang
“Don’t doubt yourself, Cadets is difficult, and mistakes will be made, but it’s through these mistakes that we learn and grow. Character development doesn’t appear out of nowhere and keep platoon morale high.”
CUO V. Goel
Give Corps a good try. I was sceptical in my first year if I was going to continue Corps, but it’s been the best decision, as I got to meet new people and exercise the skills and leadership learnt during promotions courses in the field”

What is your role and what unit do you serve in?
CUO A. Xu
“We are like most other school based units, but in terms of numbers, we have around 220 cadets in our voluntary school program However, in our actual parade, we get around 150 cadets. Generally, our parade begins at 3:30pm and ends around 5:30pm In terms of structure, the James Ruse Agricultural High School Army Cadet Unit (JRAHSACU) has 3 Cadet companies and 2 Cadet Recruit Companies Where cadets will go through courses such as fieldcraft”
CUO C. Wu
“Other courses that exist within our Corps include medics, signallers, advanced operations, robotics and advanced robotics In terms of course structure, the CDTRCT’s go through the recruits course and gain an overarching understanding of Cadet’s in 1 year Then through the promotions course, every year in Term 1 and Term 3, cadets can get promoted. The courses are quite competitive”
FEATURESTORY FEATURESTORY TRGPDE9|JAMESRUSECUO’S
So far what do you like about the TKSCC, and what are some of the key differences between our unit and yours?
CUO C. Wu
“Similar to your school, there’s a course for promotions, however there is a separate course for Lances and Corporals, which we are trying to change into an integrated course The different camps that we go on all last different days in comparison to your one-week camp, with one camp in Term 1 which is roughly 2–3 days, one in Term 2 which is quite similar to your AFX and another short camp in Term 3. For our Term 2 AFX the camp is held close to Hornsby.”
CUO A. Xu
“We don’t have the facilities that King’s has, and we definitely don’t have as big of a backyard as you guys do. We can definitely look at the teamwork initiatives that you’re doing I think that’s one thing that our unit can expand on, as we don’t really enforce a lot of teamwork initiatives. I think that we could learn a lot from the confidence course, something that’s unique Our school also contains a Co-ed program and isn’t compulsory but many students really like the program. Also, we have 4 camps, 1 in each term with an Interstate camp in Term 4 which lasts 10 days essentially the same as your AFX, however these are optional for existing cadets.”

What does Drones & Robotics Platoon do during Training Parades?
During training parades, the Drones & Robotics Platoon focuses on building practical skills in drone operation, task execution, and robotics systems
Cadets engage in hands-on training with robots, learning about drive mechanics, safety procedures, and technical applications. We also explore
robotics technology (tanks) through structured exercises and practical problem-solving tasks. This specialised training helps develop teamwork, critical thinking, and technical competence
On AFX, the Drones & Robotics Platoon supports tactical operations by providing aerial reconnaissance, surveillance, and technical assistance. We deploy drones to gather real-time information, identify terrain features, and monitor troop movements, improving situational awareness for command decisions. We also uses robotics systems for specialised tasks,
including racecourse simulations (racing drones) and logistical support a sneak peek into our initiative). Their role enhances operational efficiency and contributes to the smooth execution of complex tasks.
Joining the Drones & Robotics Platoon allows cadets to develop practical technical skills while supporting mission tasks. Members gain hands-on experience with drone technology and robotics systems, strengthening their problem-solving abilities and attention to detail These activities, combined with the initiatives we run, foster leadership, teamwork, and technical knowledge that can be useful in future STEM careers. By joining, cadets become part of a forward-thinking team that plays an important role in supporting and improving field operations
What are you looking forward to doing on AFX with your platoon?
SGT Daniel Yang
“I think we’ll be looking forward to teaching how to use these technologies, and to see how cadets will complete our initiatives and navigate our drones.”
WO2 Edward Huang
“I’m looking forward to expediting our initiatives in a more practical setting as on AFX, such as our BlackhawksDown initiative and possibly the Robo-Master Recovery Challenge.
MOVIE RECCOMENDATIONS FOR AFX?

CPL B. Clark
“The food was quite good, especially on a day like this.”
“Therefore receive one another, just as Christ also received us, to the glory of God.”
Romans 15:7 (NKJV)
As we welcome James Ruse to our parade ground today, so too must we remember to welcome God and His people into our hearts, just as He welcomes us. This is not only an act of Service, but it is also a distinct characteristic that can be exemplified to the world by us, the soldiers of God.
