“It’s probably kind of cliche, but I still see cowboy weddings,” Church said. “I’ve seen a few steampunk weddings, some that are old-fashioned and Gypsy-like vintage weddings. They are often more casual, because they’re having to plan them really quickly sometimes.” As far as engagement photos go, couples often choose outdoor locations near water or a river. Some photographers favor pastoral settings, such as old barns. Keith said he has several favorite places for photos near Louise Hayes Park and along the river near Hunt. Perhaps the most important

decision a couple will face is choosing the right photographer or videography company to hire. “What people really need to do is go visit the photographer, look at their stuff and make sure they have both natural light and flash photography,” Keith said. “Everyone will put out their best stuff, but look at their wedding books and get a feel for what you want and make sure the photographer is able to do that for you.” “Make sure your chosen photographer works well with others,” Yates said. “A good photographer will have a working relationship with wedding planners, caterers, videographers, DJs, ministers and other wedding vendors. photography or something more on the artistic side. “My style of photography is the art style,” Church said. “I shoot editorial style and then take some of the portraits I get and paint on them to create works of art along with the regular photos. I do a few paintings, as well.” The most important thing to remember is that a wedding photographer will likely be present for much more than just the ceremony, and each couple needs to be comfortable and engaged with the photographer they choose. Often, couples will call their wedding photographers back to take photos of their first child or future family portraits. “I try to get to know them pretty well,” Church said. “I do interviews and we get to know each other ... there are so many personalities in the family that may not have met before, so you have to find the best ways to merge these families in a cohesive manner.” “One of the biggest considerations when choosing a photographer or videographer is likability,” Yates said. “You’ll spend more time with your photographer than you will with your fiancee on your wedding day. It’s important that you get along well with them and that they’re upbeat and fun to be around.”
