Clifton Rudolphus Boone, Jr., was born on March 3, 1938, to Clifton Rudolphus and Isabel Marie Boone, in Washington, D.C. A sister, Barbara, was born to that union. Following the death of his mother Isabel, his father met and became united in marriage to Thelma Freeman and to that union a younger sister, Jacquelyn, was born.

Clifton started his educational journey at Giddings Elementary School located on Capitol Hill in Washington, DC, and completed elementary school at Birney Elementary School in the Barry Farms area of Anacostia. He served as a Cadet (a military group) at Dunbar High School and graduated in l955.

Clifton was an excellent student, skipped a grade and graduated high school just after his 17th birthday from Dunbar H. S. A Washington, DC High School. In September 1955, he enlisted in the United States Air Force. Due to his young age, he needed his father’s signature. He was honorably discharged from the military.

Clifton loved the Lord, dedicated his life and started attending Matthews Memorial Baptist Church at the age of six. He was baptized at the age of l2. He sang in the Young Adult Fellowship Choir and as he matured, assisted the Church officials in running errands, drove the church van and performed other tasks as they needed.

On November 14, 1959, Clifton married Barbara Petes, in Shreveport, Louisiana. He and Barbara were blessed with one son, Kelvin Wayne Boone. After his first marriage Clift began a relationship with childhood friend Sylvia Hampton Penny. They had one child together Clifton LaVell Boone.

He was employed with IBM in Washington, DC and later transferred to Denver, CO. He worked for IBM for many years and spent his last working years with the United States Postal Service and driving for Avis Budget Group. Clift was known for his strong work ethics.

Clifton became a member of Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church in the early 1970’s under the leadership of Rev. Phillip H. Gholston where he faithfully served as an usher. In 1978, he and Shirley Ann Fisher were united in holy matrimony in Washington, D.C., and Clifton lovingly embraced the role of father to Tenean and Toni, guiding them with kindness and care. Soon after, the family returned to Denver to make their home.

In 1982, Clifton was ordained as a Deacon earning the joyful title of the “Dancing Deacon.” Even when standing was difficult, it was not unusual to see him moving.

After the passing of Pastor Gholston, Rev. Manning Perkins of Alabama became the shepherd of Pilgrim Rest in 1992. Upon Pastor Perkins’ retirement in 2015 and his return to Alabama, Rev. Kevin Thompson became pastor of New Life Christian Fellowship formerly Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church. Throughout the years, Clifton poured his heart into serving as Deacon, always ready to support, encourage, and strengthen his pastors and church family.

Clift was active in the Citywide Brotherhood of Metropolitan Denver, prison ministry and often attended usher events, where he faithfully offered his support whenever and however he could. Just as devoted at home, Clifton supported his wife in her work and ministry. He also took great pride in his role as a grandfather, cherishing every moment with them and finding joy in their accomplishments.

In January 2024, Pastor Scott Sangster and the loving church family at Lowry Community Christian Church welcomed us into their fellowship.

Outside of church events and work, he enjoyed bowling, playing cards, and traveling. Sometimes he would fly to California to play Pinochle. He loved to watch the game show network especially Family Feud, Price is Right, Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy.

On Friday, August 22, 2025, Clifton peacefully departed this life at the age of 87. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clifton R. Boone, Sr., Isabel Taylor Boone, and Thelma Freeman Boone.

He leaves behind a legacy of love through his devoted wife, Shirley Boone; his sisters, Barbara Boone Cameron and Jacquelyn Lee Simmons; his children, Kelvin W. Boone (Arlene) of San Antonio, TX, Clifton L. Boone (Lynn) of Kannapolis, NC, Tenean S. FisherKane of Houston, TX, and Toni I. Clifton’s life was one of faith, service, and joy. He will be lovingly remembered for his kindness, sense of humor, easy going spirit, love of music and devotion to his family. His presence touched the lives of many, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
