DEAR FRIENDS, The Kate’s fiscal year of July 2020 through June 2021 will be remembered as a challenging time, but also a time of gratitude for the ongoing support of our Members and friends. We began the fiscal year with the Kate’s programming on pause, but spring 2021 brought about glimpses of a return to normalcy. During that time, we pivoted to offer virtual programming, gradually presented live music to limited capacity audiences, and undertook facility enhancement projects that could only be done while the building was unoccupied. Most importantly, we prepared for a strong reopening, focusing on the day we could welcome all of you back. Regardless of the challenges caused by the pandemic, the year behind us was full of forward-looking, mission-driven work. Most notably was the renovation and expansion of the Katharine Hepburn Museum. This one-of-a-kind museum presents an authentic view of the cultural and historical impact of Katharine Hepburn and her family. We are excited to share this story with our patrons and fellow Kate fans. The first phase of the Kate Walk of Fame was completed, with special messages from paver sponsors laid alongside the stars of performers who have graced our stage. Through the generosity of Bob and Barbara Welsh, a sparkling, vintage-style marquee was also put in place at our entry to welcome visitors. These projects and more were undertaken by our staff, trustees, and volunteers, all of whom worked tirelessly to keep the Kate on solid financial ground throughout our closure. Your continued support assures us that the performing arts are valued and hold an important place in society. The Kate exists to enrich the community through the transformative power of the arts and uphold the legacy of Miss Hepburn — you have ensured that our best days are ahead! K ATE ’S CA M P FO R K I DS The show must go on! One hundred campers joined us for five weeks of Kate’s Camp for Kids under new COVID-19 safety guidelines.
SC H O L A RS H I P Awarded in June 2021, the recipient of our second annual Katharine Hepburn Cultural Arts Center Scholarship was Davonté Mitchell of Old Saybrook. Davonté was inspired by his elementary school music teacher at Goodwin Elementary and knew early on that music would be big part of his life. He attends Western Connecticut State University, majoring in music education.

S P I R IT O F K ATH A R I N E H E PB U R N AWA R D TO CHER In October 2021, the Kate presented the 5th annual Spirit of Katharine Hepburn Award to Cher via our first ever virtual Gala. An Oscar, Grammy, Emmy and Kennedy Center honoree, Cher has enjoyed enormous success in film, TV, music, Broadway and as a global performer. She has often cited Katharine Hepburn as an inspiration throughout her career.
