A warm welcome to 2024 and the latest edition of the “Encore” magazine. As always, we deliver a wide range of entertainment, dining and social options for our members and try to put something on for everyone. We look forward to welcoming you to one of our three clubs in the coming months. Junior League Report The 2024 season is shaping up as another great year for our Junior League. As always, the Souths Juniors Rugby League competition is one of the most pro-active junior organisations in the state and we are always on the lookout for new players.

The NRL have an excellent website www. playnrl.com where all the rules are easily explained using simple graphics. From there you can simply type in your postcode, and it will list all the local clubs in your area you can play with. You can always just come directly to us at www.southsjuniors.com. au too if you wish to. Rugby league in our area is a great low-cost winter sport that encourages teamwork and responsibility. As well as welcoming in new players we are always in need of volunteers for a variety of roles. If you are a member of the club and have some spare time on the weekends, we’d love to hear from you. Contact can be made through the league office on 9314 4271. Faulty Towers In entertainment highlights, the hilarious Faulty Towers interactive dinner/show is back at Juniors Maroubra for two shows this May, on the 10th and 11th. This night has proved extremely popular in previous years, and we have added two shows this year which I’m sure will both sell out. Those that attend will be in for a great night of laughter with friends as Basil, Sybil and Manuel serve up a three-course meal and plenty of laughs. I would recommend you book as soon as possible to secure your seats at the table.

The Footy is Back! The 2024 season is almost upon us and whilst we love our summer months in Sydney and the holiday season, I personally can’t wait for my weekly footy fix as the mighty Rabbitohs launch another campaign for a premiership. There’s even more excitement as The Rabbitohs play the first game of the season in Las Vegas against Manly. The NRL are taking the game to a huge potential new market, and we wish them well in expanding our great game. Whilst many supporters are making the trip to the US, for those of us who are watching here at home, there’s no better place to watch than our Henry’s bar with the game on at 1:30pm on Sunday 3rd March. We hope to see a few of our fans here at the club to watch what will be a great spectacle in the entertainment capital of the world! Anzac Day Dawn Service The traditional Anzac Day dawn service will once again be held at the Cenotaph on Anzac Parade just across from The Juniors Maroubra. The service takes place at 4:30am Thursday 25th April. It is one of the most important days on the Juniors Calendar as we join with the Maroubra RSL sub-branch in honouring the men and woman who gave their lives for this great country all those years ago. It is with great pleasure that I write to our members in the latest edition of the Encore magazine. 2024 is well and truly underway and it is going to be a big year for our three venues. Along with the usual array of events and promotions on offer, we will be working on improving our member facilities again this year to build on the work done last year with the Henry’s bar and Fitness Centre upgrades. Ground Floor Refresh Our biggest project in 2024 will be a refresh of our ground floor area. We are all very excited to get this major work underway and we start doing this in sections from early March. As with any improvement works there will be some disruptions to our regular activities but we are working hard on minimising this as much as possible. We hope to be finished by late 2024 and I thank all our loyal members for their patience in advance.

The real-time results keep the competition lively and eliminates manual marking. It’s completely free to play and there over $200 in prizes every week. It starts on Wednesday 6th March at 7pm and we hope our members join the fun and give it a go. Milestone Birthdays Our functions department are ready for your bookings this year for any occasion. Are you or someone you know having a milestone birthday? Turning 30, 40, 50 or beyond then come and talk to us about having your function here. Between the club’s three venues we can cater for any size group and budget. Let us take care of all your party needs and make it an event to remember. The Wintle Theatre is once again hosting a galaxy of stars in the next three months. March features the return of the ultimate party band – Jellybean Jam, who always put on one of the best party nights of the year. We also welcome legendary 60’s UK band Herman’s Hermits who are celebrating 60 years of performing which is truly a remarkable achievement. We will also be hosting Ross Wilson who will be celebrating 50 years of his music from Daddy Cool, Mondo Rock and the best of his solo material as well. eet Dan Purwa, a lively 70-year-old who challenges conventional expectations of age and fitness. Dan is a regular at the Juniors Fitness Centre having been a member for over 35 years, where he engages in a disciplined exercise routine that has allowed him to maintain a ripped physique. Dan's weekly training routine, consisting of 2+ hour sessions, 5 - 6 days a week, is truly a remarkable commitment to maintaining his healthy lifestyle.

His story offers a compelling reminder that it’s NEVER TOO LATE to embark on a fitness journey and the rewards of doing so can be transformative.

His dedication to staying active and healthy serves as an inspiration to both younger and older gym-goers. He showcases the potential for lifelong well-being but also challenges societal norms about aging, proving that age is just a number when it comes to leading a vibrant and active lifestyle. Dan's regular workouts focus mainly on body weight exercises with many calisthenics’ principles applied, but he also incorporates circuit training, boxing classes and stair climbing, all of which fuel his relentless pursuit of staying in top shape. He emphasises the importance of setting goals and not only achieving them but going one better in many cases whilst staying motivated and prioritising health above all else. His story is testament to the power of a positive mindset and its influence on physical wellbeing. This inspires all of his fellow gym goers, with many of our regulars of all ages either training with Dan or receiving advice and encouragement to try different training methods and to push themselves to new limits. In short, his enthusiasm is infectious. Dan is a very popular member of our fitness community.

Dan works hard on making sure his body is warm before starting his daily routine. Be consistent: Consistency is key and you need to maintain your workouts several times a week. Dan recommends maintaining this even when on holidays. Build Strength: Work on getting your muscles ready for the next progression of exercises planned. You have to build up to to things they don’t just happen overnight. Emphasise good form: Proper form is essential for injury prevention and effective training. Once you have built the muscle then you can focus on technique and form. Take your time with each repetition to see progress. Keep it simple: Don’t overthink your routine. Just get moving, regardless of your fitness goals. It’s vital at every stage of life, whether you aim to outperform 30-year-olds or maintain your quality of life.

When you join the club you start off as a Base Member, which entitles you to a member’s discount on food and beverages, show tickets and fitness centre. By using your membership card when purchasing the above items as well as playing gaming machines, you earn points.

HOW ARE POINTS ALLOCATED? You will earn two sets of points that will go towards the following accounts:

BONUS POINTS One point is given for every:

Transferring to your Ultim8 Card (reloadable EFTPOS card) in minimum amounts of $10 Bonus points earnt on gaming machine play can be used as Points to Play via a refund.

Join us as we hit the slopes in the Snowy Mountains for some skiing and snowboarding this August.
