Presidents Report

Souths Juniors Foundation

Our Junior League recently established a charitable foundation to assist with raising funds to promote and foster Junior Rugby League in the South Sydney area. This is in addition to the work the Junior League currently does but focuses on key areas such as elite player development, promoting women in rugby league, and also brain health through technology to monitor player welfare. The foundation was launched at a sold out gala dinner in July in our very own Wintle Theatre and was attended by a who’s who of former Souths Juniors and Rabbitohs legends including Campbell Graham, Braith Anasta, Ian Roberts, Bob McCarthy and hosted by Sean Garlick. The night also featured a keynote speech from the Chief of Navy VA Mark Hammond, which was a highlight. The night was a huge success and a great springboard for what we can achieve going forward. There will be further information on how to become a sponsor for both corporate and individuals in the near future. Maroubra Fun Run

We are very excited to announce to our members that the Maroubra Fun Run and Summer Festival is returning this year for the first time since 2019, we are once again the naming rights sponsor for this great community event. The event will take place on Sunday 22nd October at South Maroubra surf club and will have runners and walkers of all abilities tackling the 4km or 8km course. The Fun Run is celebrating its 25th year and

will also feature market stalls, kids rides and attractions and a live music stage featuring Sydney’s number one party band Jellybean Jam. It will be a great day and something all our members can be a part of. We hope to see some of you there on the day.

Melbourne Cup Calcutta

The Melbourne Cup Calcutta is just around the corner. This means it’s time to get your syndicates together for the most important build up event to the race that stops the nation and one of my personal highlights of the year. With a guaranteed $60,000 prize pool it’s going to be a good one. Prepare for a great day out on Sunday 5th November, with the action kicking off at 3.30pm. Tickets will be available to purchase at Henry’s from 12pm Wednesday 18th October. Purchase tickets before the day of the event for presale special two for the price of one.

We are very lucky to have our regular host again this year, Sky Racing’s Greg Radley to lead proceedings as punters go head-to-head to secure their favorite horse. Giddy Up!

Rabbitohs

We are hanging on in the top eight and have a good chance for the finals this year. We’re excited to see how it plays out. It’s all starting to click for our talented squad and let’s hope it continues that way. I, along with all the loyal supporters wish them the very best for the rest of the season.

It is with absolute sadness that I have to report the passing of our long time, loved, and well-respected Director, Peter Ramsay. Peter served on the Board for over 20 years and always had the interest of the Club, the staff and the members at heart. He also gave freely of his time to the Junior League around the ovals on the weekends, helping out wherever he could. The last few months of Peters life were particularly sad after the sudden passing of his only child, Michael. He will be sadly missed by all.

Henry’s Bar Launch

The Juniors Kingsford will be launching a new revamped sports and live music bar “Henry’s” kicking off over the long weekend in October. Our team here at the club has modernised the room and it will now not only show sport and have TAB facilities, but will also be a live music venue on Friday nights serving a great selection of beers, cocktails, and a new pizza menu four days a week. Each night will have a different promotion or special and we hope to create a “pub in a club” atmosphere. The first night will be Friday 29th September as we host a comedy show as part of the Sydney Fringe Festival and then a full program of live bands and other promotions will start from there. The room will feature rock bands and will have a live and loud theme. October is our official launch month, and we hope you stop in and have a look at our newest bar complete with its own entrance through the main foyer.

The drink special runs in all three venues, Kingsford, Maroubra, and Malabar and ties in with the NRL Finals series as well. Pepperjack Wine Maker’s Evening

Pepperjack is a name that everyone knows and loves. Join us for an evening of wine tasting with the chief winemaker at Pepperjack, Richard Mattner on Thursday 14th September. Our chefs in The Sundeck Brasserie have created the perfect menu to compliment the Pepperjack wine range. You will indulge in a four-course dinner whilst Richard takes you on a journey of the incredible Pepperjack wines. The Maroubra Fun Run and Summer Festival is back for the first time since 2019 and it’s going to be a big one, this will be the 25th Year. The Juniors are proud to be the main sponsor of one of Maroubra’s biggest and best family events. Run, Walk or Wheel. We will start at South Maroubra Surf Club and run 4km around Maroubra Beach and South Maroubra. If that’s not enough, you’re welcome to complete a second lap for an 8km race.

For those who would rather take it easy, the summer markets will be set up all day, enjoy the music, food & drinks while you browse the market stalls. Entries are now open for this year’s event. Enter as an individual or as a team. The race kicks off with the wheelers at 9:30am, followed by all runners at 9:35am and then walkers at 9:40am.

When you join the club you start off as a Base Member, which entitles you to a member’s discount on food and beverages, show tickets and fitness centre. By using your membership card when purchasing the above items as well as playing gaming machines, you earn points.

You will earn two sets of points that will go towards the following accounts:
