T

he name itself drives your curiosity. Located near the shore of Bolok Village East Nusa Tenggara, 13 km from the capital city of Kupang takes about 45 minute drive to reach this wondrous place.

Although it is relatively close to the capital city, as a new emerging tourist sight, Crystal Cave seems not getting enough attention from to local government. It still uncertain either due to the sight itself is still new of they just don’t have a clue how to manage it.

It can be seen from the lack of signs or any other kind of information to guide visitor to this amazing place.

The only thing can be used as a “sign” from the main road is the harbor patrol sign. So if you decide to visit the Crystal cave it is best to be accompanied by someone who had been to this place to avoid getting lost.

Hidden between the bushes under the trees, the cave entrance can be found. In the inside the only light source is the sunshine through the gaps.

Unlike other cave the entrance part is flat ground, after a few meters, the terrain start to getting steep. From here the amazing crystal clear torques colored pool is seen. It is so clear that the sun rays pass through the waters causing the blue water seem to be sparkling as crystal diamonds.

The water within the pool is brackish water, this indicate that the cave is connected to sea. The cave it self is located near Bolok harbor, so with adequate diving equipment and skill it is possible to do a deeper mapping of the inner canal of Crystal Cave which is still a mystery until now.

Even though diving may not be a good idea, but it doesn’t mean that visitor cannot have fun in the pool. The tempting pool is too hard to resist, a swim in its crystal clear water is a-must, and even a large rock on sides can be

used as a diving board.

After enjoying this natural beauty, it seems to be a dilemma. On one side this place could be a lot better if there is full support from the government, but on the other side it seems to also the best option to keep it natural.

Any way, what matter and important is every visitor need to be aware and keep it clean.

S

entani Lake Festival was first held in 2008 in Kalkothe village, district Sentani, Jayapura . The same event was held again for 5 days starting from 19 June to 23 June 2014, attended by several representatives of the various tribes in Papua and West Papua. “Awesome!� That is the word describe the Sentani Lake festival, ranging from a variety of costumes worn to dances performed. Everything is on display to the general public without fee be collected. The event was organized by the

government and tourism department to introduce the diversity of arts and culture tribes in Papua New Guinea to the public and tourists.

The tribe’s unique costumes is hard to ignore, from clothes made of bark, accessories such the noken (traditional Papuan bag), a traditional percussion musical insturment know as Tifa,a foot coverings made of dry straw, traditional weapons such as spears and shields, there is also a cap made of multiple strands of feathers and birds of paradise birds intact.

In addition to arts performance, Sentani lake festival also has unique attractions around the lake with a fishing boat. This attraction is the price charged once up to 10.000 IDR per person.

Passengers were taken around the small islands scattered in the middle of the lake , one of which is the island Asei . Although there is not time to stop, but the pack fishermen talked briefly that the islanders Asei a wood painting craftsmen. Paintings made from pounded tree trunk until the 14

skin is thin and wide then painted by them with natural dyes, such as charcoal to black, red from red soil , and lime for white color.

The boat ride also passes through a floating village in a lake, unique homes blend with each other and with the beautiful natural surroundings. J

ust over a decade ago, in central Flores, the volcano Wawo Muda erupted, leaving behind a massive crater. When the rain started to fall, it created five bright-red and orange colored lakes.

These lakes are not always visible and when visiting you can find yourself not encountering any of the lakes during parts of the dry season. But when they are visible they are astonishing and unlike any other colored lake.

The closest town to the crater is Ngorenale in the Ngada District, it is a small town mainly consisting of farms and coffee plantations. The town is located about 15 minutes from Bawaja, the largest city in the district.

Near the foot of the crater there is an entrance gate to the Wawo Muda Area, where there is also a parking area for cars and bikes. To reach the crater itself a short hike (1-2hs) uphill needs to be undertaken. Along the trail there are several coffee plantations and farms, which thrive in this area because the volcanic soil is highly fertile. The coffee is mainly exported to countries like the United States. Next to coffee the farmers also grow fruit and vegetables.

The surrounding area is covered in vegetation with a variety of interesting

plants and animal species.

During the short trek you will most likely see plants such as the angelica plant which roots are used to make Chinese tigerbalm or eucalyptus trees which leaves are used to make a special ointment called minyak kayu putih. The best way explore and learn about the area’s plants and animals is by hiring a local guide.

The trails leading to the crater are very narrow, steep and are not well maintained, so make sure to wear good hiking shoes. Bear in Mind that the volcano exploded only 11 years ago, thereafter there has been done little to make it more accessible for tourists.

The crater area can best be described as surreal, as the soil is covered in ashes and blackened tree trunks. The red lakes are easy to spot, as they stand out against the grey soil. The lakes changed color according to the mineral content in the soil. The lakes differ from its bigger brother Kalimutu, because there the lakes are located above gaseous vents, which made the color of the water different shades of blue and green. In the Wawo Muda crater there are no gaseous vents, which combined with a acid called ferric oxide created the red and orange colored lakes. The volcano Gunung Inerie can be seen in the distance from several viewpoints around the crater.

The Wawo Muda Volcano is still a relatively new and raw tourism place, but when you are adventurous it will be well worth the hike as the views are staggering.

PANDAWA BEACH a new heaven in paradise

hen you talk about Bali, beach is one thing that not to be missed.

Surely, Kuta, Sanur, and Nusa Dua beach are already on your must-go list, but look out old timers there’s a new kid on the block and the name is Pandawa Beach.

Originally known to local as Kutuh Beach, Pandawa Beach located in South Kuta, Badung regency takes about one hour drive from the airport of Kuta area.

It is quite hard to find local transport to reach this beautiful beach, either by motorbike, taxi or chartered car is probably the best option.

Pandawa Beach is not under the spotlight until recent years due to the bad road and also it is located behind a great limestone hill, which is why it was once also known as the secret beach.

But now, things have changed. A full sport form the local government to develop the beach had made it easily for everyone to enjoy the beauty of Pandawa Beach. A road was build trough the limestone hill all the way to reach the beach.

On the hill side facing the ocean, six big limestone statues of the Pandawa Five, whom the beach is named after, are built in honor to the five great hero brothers in Mahabarata epic, Yudhisthira, Bhima, Arjuna, Nakula and Sahadeva, and their mother Kunti.

The beach itself is breathtaking, with white sand and bright blue water stretch along the coastline as far as eye can see.

On the right side of the beach have been developed into a water sports complex, the price are not too expensive and it is also one of the best way to enjoy this beach. The other part of beach had more open space to play around with stall on the sides ready to serve you with fresh coconut and a slice of lime in it to make your beach day perfect.

Although Pandawa Beach is relatively new, but with all of the facilities improvement that had been made surely can make this new kids on the block a blockbuster. One thing that everyone needs to keep in mind is that not to overdo it, and keep this new heaven in paradise pristine.

Pepes

P

epes is an Indonesian cooking method using banana leaf as food wrappings. The banana-leaf packages containing food is secured with a small nail made from central rib of coconut leaf and sew upon banana leaf, then it is cooked on steam, in boiled water or grilled on charcoal.

This cooking technique allowed the rich spices mixture to be compressed against the main ingredients inside the individual banana leaf package while being cooked, and also add distinct aroma of cooked or burned banana leaf. Although being cooked simultaneously with food, the banana leaf is a non-edible material and its function was as the cookable organic

wrapper.

As for the dish, there are various kinds such as minced meat, tofu, or chicken. But it is mostly used to with fish. In West Java, ikan mas (Cyprinus carpio) are the most popular fish to be cooked as pepes.

The ingredients usually consist by mixing fish or any type of food with a mixture of spices including salt, chili, shallots, garlic, turmeric, ginger, lemongrass, curry leaf, candlenut, tamarind, tomato, and lemon basil all wrapped in a banana leaf.

As said above pepes is an interesting culinary that worth to be added into your list, to taste the unique delicacy of Indonesia to complete your journey.

Palembang in South Sumatra is famous for the Bridge of Ampera. Built in 1965, the Ampera Bridge went on to become an icon of South Sumatra. The best time to visit this icon is at night, when the bridge will be illuminated with light.
