Celebration of Life

Ruth Rayford-Brown was born October 1, 1937, to the late Foster Paul and Novella Moore in Fitzhugh, Arkansas. Ruth was called home to be with the Lord on March 12, 2022.

Ruth was educated in the Fitzhugh School system. She joined a local church, where she professed Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age. She relocated to Kansas City, MO. to be with family and pursue her aspirations as a young lady. Being ambitious, she migrated to Chicago, IL. to attain economic advantage by working multiple jobs. To further her career, she relocated to Waukegan, IL., where she began her career as a school bus driver. She would later retire from Ryder bus company.

Ruth was united in holy matrimony to Arthur D. Brown. They shared a loving and strong connection before Arthur preceded her in life. During her stay on earth, she loved and touched many lives in a way that will never be forgotten. The Lord gifted her with a kind and giving heart, which allowed her to nurture her family, friends and even strangers. Her traits from being a mother and wife, made her a role model to young women who learned from her. She was a philanthropist, who never turned anyone away. She had a passion for playing cards and listening to music, while smoking Viceroy cigarettes.

Ruth preceded in death by parents, Foster Paul and Novella Moore, husband, Arthur Brown, brothers Samuel Moore, Johnny Moore, and Amos Moore; and sisters Marcella Bandy, Essie Mae Moore Jeffrey and Betty Moore Ferguson; Son, Timmy Rayford. She leaves to cherish her memories: A daughter, Sheila Richardson; four sons, Darrick Rayford (Johann), Raynard Rayford (Josette), Davie Rayford (Cheri) and Bruce Lane; brothers, Alex Moore of Augusta, Arkansas, Foster (Jerri) Moore, Chicago, Illinois; sisters Betty Hunt, Chicago, IL, Ida Briscoe and Susie Moore, Augusta, Arkansas.

She also leaves 20 grandchildren (1 deceased); and a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

After Glow: I’d like the memory of me be a happy one. I’d like to leave an afterglow of my smiles when life is done. I’d like to leave an echo whispering softly down the ways of happy times and laughing times and bright and sunny days. I’d like the tears of those who grieve to dry before the sun of happy memories that I leave when my life is done.

Miss Me, But Let Me Go When I come to the end of the road And the sun has set for me, I want no rites in a gloom-filled room, Why cry for a soul is free?

Miss me a little- -but not for too long, And not with your head bowed low.

Remember the love we once shared, Miss me - -but let me go.

For this is a journey that we all must take And each must go alone.

It’s all a part of the master’s plan, a step on the road to home.

When you are lonely and sick at heart, Go to the friends we know And bury your sorrows in doing good deeds.

My Sister Our Sister always OPENED her heart and doors To her siblings, family, and friends, even strangers.

That’s why we will ALWAYS love her until the end of ETERNITY. . . .

To Our Granny A wife, a mother and a grandmother too, This is the legacy we have from you.

You taught us love and how to fight, You gave us strength; you gave us might.

You fought for us all in one way or another, For all of us you gave your best, Now the time has come for you to rest.

So go in peace, you’ve earned your sleep, Your love in our hearts, well eternally keep.

Acknowledgements

When it seems that loss was too great, we looked up and our friends were there with flowers and words written and spoken. With faces smiling and open, you comforted us and shared our grief. God will continue to bless and keep granting relief. Our gratitude cannot be adequately expressed with words, but they are the best we can offer during this test. “Thank You” for lifting the clouds and letting the sunshine through.
