live it up with a true original Atlantic City

It may seem like Atlantic City has always been a casino town, but gambling was only legalized here in 1978, with Resorts, the historic beach town’s first casino – and the first one to open outside of Las Vegas – making its debut 45 years ago this summer.

Since that time, gaming has been one of Atlantic City’s major attractions, but along with world-class hotels, restaurants, nightlife, entertainment, and the world-famous Boardwalk and beach, the destination offers a range of classic AC experiences that can only be found within its 12 square seashore miles.

A True Hot Spot for Travelers

While Atlantic City has recently been dubbed a “luxurious hot spot for travelers” (Robb Report), along with its spectacular casino properties and new attractions – such as Showboat’s $100 million Island Waterpark, the world’s

largest seaside indoor waterpark, which debuted in July, and Spiegelworld’s “The Hook,” AC’s brand-new permanent entertainment residency – the resort also embraces its nostalgic charm, providing visitors with the chance to explore a variety of authentic Atlantic City experiences.

Really Cool Attractions, Restaurants, and More

The birthplace of boardwalks, saltwater taffy, rolling chairs, and waterfront amusement piers, Atlantic City boasts an array of iconic attractions (such as the 125-yearold Steel Pier, Historic Gardner’s Basin, and the Absecon Lighthouse, the third tallest lighthouse in the country) and legendary restaurants (like Dock’s Oyster House, Tony’s Baltimore Grill, and Knife & Fork) that capture the essence of Atlantic City.

In addition, Atlantic City boasts dozens of authentic dining experiences from around the world, including the newly opened Nobu at Caesars.

WWW.THEHOTELGUIDE.COM 9 8 WWW.THEHOTELGUIDE.COM

Atlantic City has also seen an arts and culture revival in recent years, with an impressive mural arts program, homegrown festivals and events, and venues like the Noyes Arts Garage rekindling the resort’s creative spirit.

Meanwhile, Atlantic City’s Orange Loop, an emerging neighborhood of unique restaurants, bars, live music venues, shops, and even a yoga studio, offers the chance to enjoy local flavors and thrills, just off the Boardwalk.

Summer Rules

During the summer months, Atlantic City boasts a variety of exciting events, from multi-day music festivals and beach concerts (the outdoor countrymusic Tidal Wave Festival returns Aug. 11-13) to familyfriendly happenings like the Atlantic City Airshow, which returns for its 20th year on Aug. 16.

A true Atlantic City adventure wouldn’t be complete without exploring the arcades, shops, and restaurants along the worldfamous Boardwalk, and other outdoor experiences, from parasailing and sunset cruises to dolphin watching and bayside dining.

The Real Deal, All Year Round

With so many luxury hotels, restaurants, spas, and year-round entertainment options, Atlantic City is the ideal spot to visit in the fall and winter months as well as during the spring and summer.

This October, the annual Atlantic City Restaurant Week

returns with six days of specially priced menus at an array of casino restaurants and local establishments (Oct. 1-6), the perfect reason to stay, dine, play, and savor it all in AC. During the month of December, Atlantic City’s Tinseltown Holiday Experience lights up the entire city with holiday cheer, extravagant decorations, pop-up experiences, and not-to-bemissed festive events.

at Norman Rockwell’s home Relax and Recharge

et between the lush Green Mountains and the icy cold Battenkill River in Arlington, Vermont, Norman Rockwell’s idyllic 18th century renovated home is the most magical place for a family get away.

Dubbed “Rockwell’s Retreat” by owners Kevin and Sue Harter, the Inn has the allure of iconic history and all the comforts of home! With 8 charming rooms, including Norman Rockwell’s own art studio and his kids’ playhouse, you will find refuge to rest, recharge and relax. Whether you enjoy fly fishing in the river, riding bikes around the charming neighborhood, (or the Peloton indoors) early evenings with a glass of wine out by the fire pit, it’s all there for you. Or hey, go take a nap or curl up with a good book.

If you’d like to roam around a bit, 20 minutes away is the lovely town of Manchester, where you will enjoy some delightful outdoor local restaurants, shopping and perhaps

a taste of Vermont bourbon!

After a quick flight from Houston to Albany, NY, the 1 hour and 15-minute countryside drive from the airport to Arlington, VT, greatly increased my anticipation and curiosity. There for a family wedding, we wanted a unique place to stay that was not too far driving distance from the festivities.

I booked our stay online, but quickly realized that Kevin was one of the owners and was the main person I would communicate with. This greatly eased my trepidation, while giving me the personal touch, considering I had never been to Vermont and was travelling from Texas! He and his wife purchased and renovated the property in 2019, which includes 8 beautifully decorated rooms including the studio and the playhouse Rockwell built for his own kids.

Each room has a different theme, and as much comfort as you would expect including 600 thread count sheets,

comfortable beds and cozy hang out nooks. Upon arrival, I felt like I had just embarked on a fairy tale.

The red covered bridge at the entrance to the property reminded me that I was not in Houston anymore!

Kevin promptly greeted us outside and welcomed us into the main house. We booked the “farm view room” and so we quickly went upstairs to drop off our things, and explore the rest of the home and the gorgeous property.

Downstairs houses the farm house kitchen, living room and the inviting family breakfast area, where Kevin cooked up the most delicious bacon and eggs and lemon ricotta pancakes for us every morning. Expect to enjoy loads of local syrup and fresh coffee as well as oatmeal and delicious fruit as you start your day.

“Make yourself at home,” Kevin said. As we wandered through the living room, he pointed out the ice cream freezer…loaded with local ice creams that he stocked

every couple of days. “Help yourself!” Yes please, I think I will.

Towards the back of the property, across the lush green expansive yard, sits Rockwell’s studio, which features some of his most famous work. Upon entering the studio, you get the feeling he just stepped out for a coffee break.

As an American artist and illustrator, he is well known for his Saturday Evening Post cover illustrations as well as his with work Boy Scouts of America. He brought regular people to life in his pictures and it’s amusing to see them displayed around the property. Rockwell often used friends and family as his models and as fellow Vermonters they have been known to stop by the Inn.

Away from the hustle of the city, Rockwell’s Retreat is the perfect setting to relax and catch your breath. Whether it’s just you, or a larger crew, Rockwell’s Retreat is ready to welcome you as one of the family.

launches Blue Zone Wellness Experience Hotel Nantipa

Hotel Nantipa - a Tico Beach Experience has launched an exclusive package that provides guests with insight into the way of life that helps residents of Costa Rica’s Nicoya Peninsula live longer, healthier lives.

As identified by researchers Michel Poulain, Dan Buettner, and Giovanni Mario Pes, the five blue zone regions around the world are hot spots for the most centenarians due to factors such as diet, community, movement and purpose.

The Nantipa Blue Zone Wellness Experience invites guests to immerse themselves in this micro-culture and explore natural ways to enjoy enhanced physical health, minimal stress, active days, and fulfilling encounters.

The Nantipa Blue Zone Wellness Experience pairs Nantipa hospitality with the following key blue zone pillars: Put Loved Ones First - The Nantipa Blue Zone Wellness experience can accommodate families, friends or generations of travellers with various options for accommodation in suites, bungalows and three-bedroom villas,

along with engaging, inclusive activities.

Embrace your ‘Plan de Vida’ - This sense of purpose has been identified as an element specific to the Nicoya Peninsula blue zone. Often identified as ‘why I wake up in the morning’ it’s a vital part of maintaining a positive outlook amongst elders in this Blue Zone community. As part of the experience, guests are encouraged to journal their thoughts and intentions to record, plan and ideate, while distancing themselves from digital devices to remove external noise.

Mindset to Relax - As stress management is a key component to blue zone longevity, the experience begins each day with a moment of mindfulness. The experience includes a yoga and meditation program where guests can choose between traditional practices or try a paired activity like acro-yoga either in the hotel’s brand new yoga Shala or on the beach surrounded by lush greenery and serene sounds.

Natural Activity - Exercise is woven into the day as part of a fun and laid back outdoor lifestyle. Guests can

choose from a selection of bonding activities, including a rainforest hike followed by a dip in a waterfall, ziplining on a surfboard, a beach horseback ride, surf lessons, exploring the coastline by boat, snorkelling over an underwater volcano, or working up an appetite on a fishing trip.

Eat Local, Not Late -

While nutrition is central to blue zone longevity, it’s not simply what, but also when you eat.

The Blue Zone Wellness Experience helps guests shape their day the blue zone way: from a traditional breakfast of gallo pinto, fresh fruits and coffee, to an early evening dinner at Manzú enjoying a selection of blue zone dishes that combine locally sourced plant-based dishes with wild-caught fish direct from the sea. Guests are also invited to drink up to wind down, enjoying the balanced benefits of high-calcium Nicoyan water throughout the resort and a sundowner at 5pm, known as the optimum time to enjoy an alcoholic beverage, as the sun sets over the Pacific.

Social Culture - Being part of a community makes us feel comfortable and connected and is shown to have lasting health benefits. To connect guests with the local culture, the package also includes the opportunity to visit a local family or one of the local ‘sodas’ to learn more about traditional Nicoyan culture first hand.

Connect with Mother Nature - Spiritual connection with nature is a way of life at Nantipa, which means protecting Santa Teresa for all beings who call it home.

During their stay, guests can volunteer at local non-profit coastal ranch CIRENAS, either in the turtle hatchery or at their permaculture and medicinal gardens.

Alternatively, guests can enjoy a moment of solitude discovering their own Robinson Crusoe beach in the Cabo Blanco Nature Reserve, Costa Rica’s first protected nature conservation lands. Back at Nantipa, organized beach clean-ups help to clear microplastics from the ocean, before guests are rewarded with a fresh tropical fruit smoothie.

Sleep RightNone of this will make any difference without quality sleep allowing our bodies time to heal, recover, consolidate memories and improve motor skills. Guests can prepare for sleep with a cup of fresh herbal tea and daily in-room massage or reflexology treatment before being lulled to sleep by the natural sounds of the ocean.

“Here in Nicoya we perhaps take our way of life for granted, but it’s something that’s often remarked upon by our guests,” says Harry Hartman, General Manager and Owner of Nantipa. “We’re an outdoor culture, we enjoy being with people, taking our time, and eating what grows naturally around us - pura vida!”

Each package is tailor-made to guest preferences based on the number of participants, length of stay, and desired activities.

The Nantipa Blue Zone Wellness Experience package is bookable now at www.nantipa.com.

the perfect summer escape Cape Cod F

rom a distance, Cape Cod looks like one of many northeast summer destinations. But go there and it’s so many different, fantastic little parts.

It’s the land of ice cream on beautifully made ice cream cones. It’s the ecologically delicate peninsula where you can experience seals and whales coming up for air.

And though it’s my favorite summertime spot, it is just as nice in the off-season, so I’ve heard. It’s also 70 miles long so make sure you make enough time to explore it all.

Relaxing beach towns, miles of shoreline, adorable Cape Cod cottages, lighthouses, and a calming destination, Cape Cod is the perfect getaway from NYC or Boston especially.

It’s definitely best to travel by car because of the cute towns along the way you can explore.

There are plenty of different areas you can stay while visiting, and each has its own energy and vibe.

I stayed in Truro, located close to Provincetown, which is definitely the most liveliest entertaining town.

Things to do in Cape Cod

Visit the Beaches: Cape Cod is known for being one of the cutest beach towns so definitely recommend visiting and spending time at their beaches. Parking can get a little pricey but if you can, rent bikes and bike to the beaches.

The town is incredibly bike friendly and so much fun to explore.

Tour Provincetown:

Provincetown is one of the most popular destinations on the Cape. Located in the northern tip of the island. There are plenty of cafes, shops, and restaurants, including being one of the most LGBT friendly places. Check

out Commercial Street to find the center of town.

Experience Lobster Rolls and Ice Cream:

To me, when I think of Cape Cod I think of a big lobster roll so of course I had to have one from the famous Lobster Pot. It’s iconic and very memorable.

Ice cream is also big on the Cap, and you won’t have a hard time finding a place to indulge.

Visit Truro Vineyards:

Growing up in a wine loving Italian and Spanish household I had to visit Truro Vineyards. It’s located in North Truro and you can sample their

wines right in the heart of their 5 acre farm.

The space is so beautifully put together and the scene is top notch. Y

ou’ll want to kick your feet up in one of the many seats avail able surrounding the large trees and chardonnay grapes. A perfect place for a perfect afternoon.

Day Trip to Nantucket or Martha’s Vineyard:

Even though I did not get to experience this lovely day excursion, I hear it’s a definite must see and do.

Make sure to have your plans for a full day and have enough time for everything your heart desires to do because you do have to take a ferry to these beautiful towns.

It’s a definite bucket list destination for me.

Sweet Surprises in the South of France

have always loved a good surprise. It’s that rush of adrenaline when the actual moment happens like a surprise birthday or engagement, or like most recently for me, a trip overseas.

As someone who has visited over 20 countries in my life, the French Riviera was not on my bucket list. Yes, I have been to Paris several times, even seeing a couple of Grateful Dead shows there years ago, but I never thought I needed to head South. I can admit now, I was wrong!

The idea of traveling to the French Riviera all started when a friend of mine reached out to say she and her husband would be renting a house in Provence, France for her husband’s birthday. I couldn’t resist her invite to visit and asked my brother to tag along for this once in a lifetime adventure

The coastal town of Nice was our first stop and reminded me a lot of Santa Monica, California with people running and biking on the boardwalk. The Negresco is likely the most famous hotel there and is definitely worth a visit. We stopped in for lattes our first morning which was a fun place to sit and people watch. Taking a stroll through the

Old Town section of Nice is an easy walk and great place to grab lunch amongst the locals.

Up for some light exercise? Then check out Caste Hill which includes stairs you can hike up to see some stunning views of the city of Nice. Be sure to wear comfortable walking shoes because there are lots of stairs and uneven sidewalks.

Next stop was a charming and classy town called St. Jean Cap Ferat which is also known as the “peninsula of the billionaires.” We stayed two nights at the Royal Riviera and fell in love with the staff and the large breakfast buffet. This hotel is situated on the water, a cape that is gorgeous and quiet with the sweet sounds of birds chirping around the clock.

The nice part about this location, is that we were able to base ourselves there and bounce over to Monaco and to one of the special surprise highlights of the trip, a medieval village called Eze.

Eze is perched high above Cap Ferat and is a fun drive on narrow streets. U2 fans, the rumor is that singer Bono lives there. Be sure to check out the La Chevre d’ Or

which translates to The Golden Goat. Heads up, it’s a little tricky to get there due to the crowds. Parking is almost non-existent, so go directly to the hotel valet. The stroll through the hotel gardens is a treat. I was in awe seeing unique statues everywhere with the French Riviera in the background. Grab a table at the restaurant veranda and then be sure to roam the hotel grounds which include lots of intricate stairs, shops, and rooms built into the mountain. We spent the next two days exploring the city of Monaco. We got lucky our first day there because our cousin connected us with a friend of hers who is a member of the private Monaco Yacht Club. Talk about fancy. Wow! I have never seen so many huge yachts in one place. We also toured the Prince’s Palace of Monaco. If you are a history buff like my brother and me, you will love this tour which offers an inside look into portions of the palace which was built in 1215.

It was also fun to check out the Car Collection of the Prince of Monaco. The personal collection consists of some 100 restored cars including one of the original Bond cars. The museum is down the hill from the palace and is a bit of walk but worth it.

By the way, Monaco does not allow ride-sharing services and the taxis are rare and hard to find so plan to park and walk everywhere including heading over to the Casino de

Monte-Carlo. If you want to gamble in the casino, don’t forget your passport.

The second half of the trip included Provence which was less than a 3 hour drive from Cap Ferat with half of it being on small two lane roads. My friends had rented Bastide de Bouche. Here we found plenty of time to walk on back roads and to enjoy pure silence amongst the trees and an occasional donkey or rooster.

The Cote d’ Azur region includes several high-end wineries and small villages as well like Aups and Cotignac to grab an espresso and relax with the locals.

It was hard to leave this special place and our friends but it was time to head home with a quick stop in Cannes. We made last minute reservations at the Carlton Hotel Beach Club, which was simpler to do than we expected.

The club is situated right on the water and the vibe here is everything you might imagine the French Riviera would feel and look like. It was the perfect place to wrap up a fabulous and surprisefilled trip.

The Common Good

stunning new restaurant opens

The Common Good is the dynamic restaurant at The Benson Hotel and Faculty Club in Aurora, the new hospitality center located at the nationally recognized University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus.

Celebrating the pioneering spirit of the West, The Common Good will serve as a welcoming destination for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

The hotel and The Common Good were designed in collaboration between Tryba Architects and Avenue Interior Design.

Beautiful Features...

The 100-seat restaurant features an open kitchen, generous booth seating, expansive wall-to-wall windows, and a wraparound outdoor terrace for alfresco dining.

It was designed to serve as a community gathering space in a fast-changing city that has evolved into Colorado’s biotech hub and a health and life sciences research center.

A separate Lounge is designed with warm mahogany wood and brass accents, surrounded by rich teal paneled walls.

Seasonal-Driven Food

The Common Good features seasonally-driven comfort food using locally-sourced ingredients and is helmed by Executive Chef Donovan Davis.

Discovering his love of cooking as a teenager, Chef Davis began working in restaurants in his early 20s, where he “fell in love with the atmosphere of the kitchen.”

His career took off in earnest at the Monterey Peninsula Country Club before he moved on to Denver Castle Pines Country Club.

He went on to hone his skills during his years at Four Seasons Hotel Austin and Four Seasons Hotel Chicago.

“I joined The Benson Hotel pre-opening and started the ground-up process, developing menus and concepts,” said Chef Davis.

“It’s been an exciting process of discovery, and we’re

CULINARY

excited to be open for the community now. We’re offering an approachable, communal environment with shared small plate options and a place where friends, colleagues, and the community can gather.”

Locally-Sourced

Chef Davis is going as local as possible and will work with producers within a 10-mile radius, emphasizing high-quality Colorado ingredients, anti-inflammatory products, Superfoods, and healthy eating.

As for the menu, Chef Davis said the approach is “global cuisine but thinking outside the lines.” The cooking offers a range of flavors that tap into Morocco, Thailand, Japan, and American Southwest cuisines.

Delectable Dishes

Chef Davis is excited about dishes like his Short Rib with Plum Sauce braised for 24 hours, which he describes as “a ‘wow’ piece when it comes out of the kitchen.” There are items like beets roasted with vanilla and served with goat cheese smoked in-house.

All pastas are made on-site, and he has an array of vegan dishes on the menu, like the Vegan Thai Green Curry that relies on the so-called “Charleston ice cream method” to wash the starch off French Red Rice and leave it al dente.

“We’ve created vegan dishes that somebody will want to order, not simply because they are vegan,” said Chef Davis. To keep it as fresh as possible, he says that “the menu will change monthly with the seasons.”

The handsome Lounge area is outfitted with TV screens for watching sports while dining on bites such as Gin Olives and Mushroom Sliders, Burgers, Mac & Cheese, and irresistible Pistachio Parmesan Fries.

Contact Them

The restaurant is now open seven days a week, from 7 am to 9 pm, serving breakfast, lunch and dinner. Visit The Common Good for full menus and other details at eatatthecommongood.com

from job opportunities to transportation Top Relocation Factors

There are a number of factors that influence where people choose to live in the United States. Some of the most common factors include:

Job opportunities. People may choose to live in a particular city or region because it has a strong job market or because it is home to their industry or field of work.

Cost of living. The cost of living in a particular city or region can be a major factor in where people choose to live. Cities with a high cost of living may be less attractive to people on a fixed income or those who are looking to stretch their budget further.

Quality of life. People may be attracted to cities or regions with a high quality of life, which can include factors such as a pleasant climate, access to recreational activities, and a low crime rate.

Proximity to family and friends. Some people may choose to live in a particular city or region because it is

close to their family and friends, or because it is a place they have always wanted to live.

Educational opportunities. Cities and regions with strong educational systems and institutions may be attractive to families with children or to those who are looking to further their education.

Cultural and recreational amenities. Cities with a rich cultural scene or access to recreational activities, such as parks, sports teams, and cultural events, may be more attractive to some people.

Transportation. Access to reliable transportation, such as public transit or major roads and highways, can be a factor in where people choose to live.

When relocating, it’s always important to align with a local Realtor to help you with some of these important factors.
