Ana Santos and Sara Branco are an amazing real estate duo! My wife and I had been anxious about beginning the search for a new home given all the horror stories we had heard about bidding wars and escalating prices. DIRECTIONS STEP ONE FOR THE PICKLED RED ONION: Pack red onion snugly into 1-cup (250 mL) canning jar with tight-fitting lid. Bring vinegar, sugar, coarse salt, peppercorns, mustard seeds and 1/2 cup (125 mL) water to a boil in small saucepan. Carefully pour mixture over red onion; cover with lid and screw on band to seal. Let stand at least 20 minutes. You can make this ahead and refrigerate for up to two weeks. STEP TWO FOR THE SLAW: Stir together fennel, mayonnaise, lemon zest and juice, sugar, salt and pepper in bowl. Stir in 2 tbsp (30 mL) chives. Set aside.

INGREDIENTS FOR THE PICKLED RED ONION • 1 small red onion, thinly sliced • 1/4 cup (60 mL) cider vinegar • 1 1/2 tsp (7 mL) granulated sugar • 3/4 tsp (4 mL) each coarse salt, black peppercorns and mustard seeds
FOR THE TACOS • Half fennel bulb, cored and very thinly sliced • 3 tbsp (45 mL) mayonnaise • 1 tsp (5 mL) grated lemon zest • 1 tbsp (15 mL) fresh lemon juice • 1/4 tsp (1 mL) granulated sugar • Pinch (0.5 mL) each salt and black pepper • 3 tbsp (45 mL) chopped fresh chives, divided • 1 pkg (200 g) PC lemon and butter grilling lobster tail skewers • 4 corn tortillas • 4 to 6 plain thick-cut or kettle-cooked potato chips, lightly crushed
STEP THREE Preheat grill to medium. Oil grill. Arrange lobster skewers, shell side down, on grill. Cook, lid down, 22 to 24 minutes, turning once, until opaque throughout. Remove lobster meat from shells and skewers. Cut each tail into four pieces; keep warm. STEP FOUR Grill or pan-fry tortillas over mediumhigh heat, turning once, until slightly puffed and lightly toasted; 30 seconds to 1 minute. Transfer to serving plates. STEP FIVE FOR THE TACOS: Top tortillas with fennel mixture and lobster, dividing evenly. Top each with 1 tbsp (15 mL) drained pickled red onions. THE OFFICIAL ARRIVAL OF SPRING SEEMED LIKE THE PERFECT TIME TO SHOWCASE THIS BRIGHT AND FRESH SPACE WE DESIGNED ON… YOU GUESSED IT – SPRING BOULEVARD! The waterfront location served as the perfect inspiration for this top-to-bottom renovation, which we lovingly “gutted” and redesigned to suit this blended family who call it “home.” We literally dug into the main floor, which included the living room, dining room, kitchen, pantry, laundry room and the principal bathroom. Our firm designed, furnished and styled the home to make the family – and all the guests they hoped to host in the near future – feel right at home. Here’s how this project came together. As with all busy families, this one had design priorities, one of them being
entertaining. The hosts-with-the-most needed a home that would welcome residents and guests alike, with a cool, casual aesthetic that has become our design firm’s signature style. The property already had great bones, which gave this project a solid start. Working alongside our client’s construction team, we were able to pitch the ceilings which gave the main level much needed extra height, light and an overall airy vibe. The outdoor view was a natural focal point for the main-floor living areas, so we laid out the home with the windows in mind, ensuring to leave sightlines free and clear to enjoy the ever changing seasonal views. We warmed up the space with wood tones and working with a neutral colour palette. The off-white wall colour was a perfect

In this case, we used a combination of Tongue and Groove on the walls and ceilings for texture, and “heritage” and artistic elements that spoke to the homeowners, and made a statement with an exclamation point! Our neutral backdrop served as the perfect blank canvas for personal touches, such as chunky dark-stained wood furniture, a gallery wall of black-andwhite family related historical photos from the area and black-iron light fixtures throughout, which instantly draw the eye and speak to the home’s classic yet contemporary style.
