Join us for our free interactive workshops at the Community Environment Centre available to all residents of The Hills. Workshops are run regularly through the year exploring a range of topics.

Self-Watering Garden Beds

Chris and Claude Community Environment Centre Thursday 15 February | 10am – 12pm

Is your garden feeling the heat this summer? Come along to learn more on how to maximise water consumption for your garden in this hot summer! Community Environment Centre volunteers and garden enthusiasts Chris and Claude will discuss practical and hands on methods to efficiently water your garden and share different water saving techniques and tricks! This workshop will include a practical demonstration in our gardens and will involve building our own self watering garden bed so you can take all the ideas home to your own garden and thirsty plants this summer!

Caring for Native Wildlife

Co-hosted event Thursday 29 February | weeknight 6pm – 8pm

Celebrate World Wildlife Day with this special co-hosted workshop sharing stories of citizen scientists, volunteers and community caring for native wildlife in The Hills! Learn from Sue and Lilly with Cattai Hills Environment Network (CHEN) about monitoring our local platypus and koala populations and restoring their habitat.

Listen to local wildlife rescue volunteers Shaun and Ravi share wildlife stories with a focus on Powerful Owl project, Growing Food for Wildlife and snake safety and behaviour. Workshop includes catered dinner and spots are limited with bookings essential.

Create Your Own Recycled Kitchen Garden Kerrie Synergy Permaculture Thursday 14 March | 10am – 12pm

Turn junk into jewels, waste into wonder! Using reclaimed items (sometimes called waste or garbage) you will learn how to create a low-cost productive garden. In this practical interactive workshop, we will use items that are commonly thrown out into landfill, compost and reclaimed plants, to create a recycled kitchen garden.

This workshop is supported by the Resource Recovery team.

Using Native Edibles in Cooking

Linda and Lynn Community Environment Centre Thursday 21 March | 10am – 12pm

Would you like to learn how to integrate native edible plants into your cooking? Come along to this show and tell workshop learning about ways how to cook and use native edibles in your everyday recipes or special treats! Community Environment Centre volunteers Linda and Lynn will teach you some methods on how to use native edibles in your cooking, show samples and share some tips and tricks!

Nature Drawing and Working Bee

Pat Shirvington Artist Saturday 13 April | school holidays 10am – 1pm

Engage your senses, learn new skills, and connect with nature with this special event. This workshop will involve learning how to draw and engage creatively with what we see around us in nature and connect in the outdoors with artist and educator, Pat Shirvington. This event is part of the Growing Food for Wildlife working bee series and will also involve learning about this project and collecting plants in nature to donate to rescued wildlife in need. Includes a catered lunch and spots are limited with bookings essential. This event is supported by Hawkesbury-Nepean Landcare Network and fully funded by Wentwest Ltd through the wellbeing grant, Connecting Outdoors.
