Seasonal Gardening Chris and Claude Community Environment Centre
Thursday 20 February | 10am – 12pm
Learn how to prepare your garden within each season, with a focus for the coming season of Autumn. Come along and hear about which vegetables would be best to plant ahead. We will show you how to prepare your soil for planting and how to look after it until the cooler weather arrives. Learn top tips for vegetable gardening and explore topics such as crop rotation and garden compatibles. Find out about other jobs to do in the garden in Autumn. Come for a walk and talk with us around the vegetable gardens to see examples of gardening techniques!

Caring for Native Wildlife co-hosted event
Thursday 6 March | 6pm – 8pm weeknight
Celebrate World Wildlife Day with this special co-hosted workshop sharing stories of citizen scientists, volunteers and community caring for native wildlife in The Hills! Learn from volunteers Sue and Lilly with Cattai Hills Environment Network (CHEN) about monitoring our platypus and koala populations and protecting and restoring their habitat. Hear from local wildlife rescue volunteers Cate and Ravi sharing wildlife stories with a focus on birds, possums, Growing Food for Wildlife Project and snake safety and behaviour. Workshop includes light supper, and spots are limited with bookings essential. This workshop is supported by Hawkesbury Nepean Landcare Network
Create Your Own Recycled Kitchen Garden Kerrie Synergy Permaculture
Thursday 20 March | 10am – 12pm
Take action for Global Recycling Day and turn junk into jewels, waste into wonder! Using reclaimed items (sometimes called waste or garbage) you will learn how to create a low-cost productive garden, with a focus on learning hands on propagation skills. In this practical interactive workshop, we will use items that are commonly thrown out into landfill, compost (created from ‘waste’) and reclaimed plants (this is plants, cuttings and seeds borrowed from a friend’s garden), to create a recycled kitchen garden. This workshop is supported by the Resource Recovery Team
Making and Creating Insect Hotels
Lachlan Community Environment Centre
Thursday 17 April | 10am – 12pm school holidays
Get active this school holidays building and decorating an insect hotel! Insect hotels will be built from recycled pacific maple, plywood, bamboo and timber. Learn about beneficial insects and the amazing services they provide for our backyards. Create a home out of recycled materials and get artsy decorating your insect hotel with nature crafts and painting. Please bring your own Phillips head screwdriver if you can. Please note we have limited numbers for this workshop. Family groups and couples may have to share an insect hotel between them. This workshop is recommended for children 10 years and over. This workshop is supported by the Resource Recovery Team.
