Dear Non-Profit Leader, Welcome to The Healthy Non-Profit ! Over a 26-year career, I have worked in almost every corner of the nonprofit sector including program & operations, resource development, and executive management. My love for non-profits comes from the difference I’ve seen non-profit professionals and volunteers make in people’s every day lives. My passion for helping non-profit agencies grow their organizational capacity stems from one particular tragic story. Earlier in my career, I witnessed what I considered a “bluechip” non-profit organization run a successful capital campaign, expand its facility, and serve more clients. However, just a few years after the ribbon cutting ceremony, this agency could not pay its bills and had to sell the building and downsize services. Clients were effected. Donors were upset. And I couldn’t help but think that it all could have been avoided if the board and staff had received the help they needed to build the necessary organizational capacity to operate in a larger space. “Because those we serve, deserve sustainability” isn’t just a cute catch phrase. It is a burning belief and guiding light for me, and it is the reason I founded The Healthy NonProfit. I look forward to talking with you about your organization !

Capital Campaign Services

The Healthy Non-Profit + American City Bureau (ACB)

EQUALS SUCCESS

In 2014, Erik had a choice to make with more of The Healthy NonProfit's clients starting to ask for capital campaign consulting services. The Healthy Non-Profit could either: a) develop a methodology and build out a capital toolbox OR b) it could partner with another capital campaign consulting firm.

Erik Anderson ACB Senior Consultant

This was a no-brainer decision because American City Bureau (ACB) and The Healthy Non-Profit have been friends for a very long time. More importantly, ACB is one of the oldest and most successful capital campaign consulting companies in the country. They have literally raised billions of dollars for countless nonprofits over the last 109-years. So, when you approach The Healthy Non-Profit about feasibility study or capital campaign consulting services, don't be surprised when you see Erik put on his ACB Senior Consultant hat and start asking questions about your project.

Erik earned his coaching certification from the Global Training & Certification Institute in 2011. He has been engaged as an executive coach by nonprofit CEOs and a fundraising coach by resource development professionals to help address challenges and tackle new projects. Erik is an organizational development (OD) practitioner and has been a member of the OD Network since 2014. As an internal consultant for Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA), he worked as a member of the Lilly Endowment Capacity Building Initiative. This work involved helping Indiana Clubs develop strategic plans, raise more money through individual giving, create board development plans, improve their board governance, and engage in strategic marketing. Erik holds two college degrees in planning and is a member of the Future Search Network. While experienced in using many different planning models, the Future Search model is one of Erik's favorites because it gets the whole system in the room, encourages self-management by participants, and generates action around consensus. Erik is a member of The Professional Association. He was named "Executive of the Year" in 2003. Needless to say, Boys & Girls Clubs are part of Erik's nonprofit family.

Erik is wellversed and experienced in individual giving strategies. He learned how to plan and implement pledge drives early

nce Experie

in his non-profit career working as a District Executive at Northwest Suburban Boy Scout Council in Mount Prospect, IL (now Pathway to Adventure Council). After applying what he learned from the Boys Scouts at Boys & Girls Club of Elgin as their CEO, Erik was invited to work for Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA) and worked with local organizations throughout the Midwest region on planning, implementing, & evaluating their annual campaign efforts.

Major Gifts

Erik worked on BGCA's team that developed the Major Gift program for local Clubs. He has helped organizations plan and implement their major gifts programs. He also has solicited multi-year major gifts ranging from $10,000 to $1,000,000. COVID-19 changed individual giving for many organizations. Erik helped Food for Greater Elgin create its inaugural Flavors of Home crowdfunding campaign in 2022. It exceeded goal by 100%.

Virtual Events

When COVID-19 got in the way of hosting events, Erik helped Food for Greater Elgin convert its in-person event into a virtual livestreaming fundraiser in Year One and a hybrid event in Year Two.

Erik came to our organization during a chaotic transition period, rolled up his sleeves, and dove in head first to help us gain stability in leadership and organizational structure. His expertise in Resource Development, motivation to support communities through non-profit work, and his genuine altruistic leadership approach is the perfect blend for coaching and consulting.
