THG - The Harris Gallery Art & Wine Collection 2022

Founded over two decades ago by M.C. and his son, A3L3XZAND3R Harris, the gallery occupies two floors of the superbly restored Plaza Arts Building. With its distinctive Italianate arches overlooking The Healdsburg Plaza, this historic building once served as the town’s first bank. Now it provides a perfect setting for two great Northern California traditions: ART & WINE.

M.C. and A3L3XZAND3R Harris are widely collected. Their works can be found in numerous private, public and corporate collections throughout the world, yet the carefully curated gallery remains a favorite place to see their creations. “The art is democratically positioned throughout the beautiful halls and anterooms and dramatized by museum lighting (and perhaps a glass of wine). A visit will be memorable."

M.C.’s works are often described as “modernist, cubist, and abstract expressionist”, whereas A3L3XZAND3R’s approach enlists “a large range from classic impressionism to abstract minimalism”.

Amplifying the aesthetic experience: As A3L3XZAND3R and M.C. occupy the walls to showcase their art, they also share the floor with a collection of fellow artists they adore….Wine Artists!

Partnering with notable winemakers, Wells Guthrie and Leo Hansen, The Harris Gallery is proud to curate a collection of special wines from these talented Wine Artists. Each bottle reflects a quality and point of view… A philosophy about creating things of beauty. It is reflected in the taste, character and expression… All with labels adorned with the painters’ signature fine art.

2021 CHENIN BLANC | Saini Farms | Dry Creek

TASTING NOTES:

For those that tend to prefer an unoaked Chardonnay or search for lighter whites, Chenin might be just what your taste buds have been searching for. It has the nose of something sweet, a delicate mouthfeel & a bone dry finish. Pale yellow in color. A gorgeous creamy style with a touch of herbal notes along side almond paste baked apple and pear skin finishes long with hints of wet rock and leesy character. Light, yet with a strong concentration to it.

We like to call Chenin, "breakfast wine" but it goes perfectly with almost anything light and creamy. Its acidity makes it a welcome partner to spicy or asian cuisine.

2021 CHENIN BLANC | Saini Farms | Dry Creek ABOUT THE VINEYARD

The Sainis are 4th generation Sonoma County grape growers that have been farming grapes in both the Dry Creek and Alexander Valleys for over 100 years. Renowned for their integrity, attention to detail and impeccable farming skills; their passion for quality coupled with their experience and familiarity with the land they farm sets them apart from the rest.

Dry Creek Valley know for its its abundant fruit orchards, vineyards and fertile lands, maintains an air of timeless tranquility and beauty. Smack in the middle of this Valley where the dry creek used to run you can find this farm.

Leo Hansen (of Leo Steen) is the King of Chenin. He has crafted this incredibly beautiful, minerally chenin for our wine portfolio.

The grapes are from The Saini Ranch vineyard in the Dry Creek Valley. This is our first Sonoma County wine, our first Healdsburg wine and we are incredibly proud to be offering this to you today.

TASTING NOTES:

Aromatics: Citrus ( kumquat/meyer lemon), orchard fruit (asian pear/granny smith apples), saline minerality

Palate: medium bodied, citrus oil, liquid minerals, orchard fruits Finish: vibrant acidity, lemon curd, long lingering, mouth watering finish. These old vines in sandy soils provide concentrated citrusy flavors with lemon curd and a chalky persistent finish. This wine can be enjoyed now for its racy mineral vibrancy but will certainly age for 10-15 years for those who enjoy their chardonnays with some age.

2020 CHARDONNAY | Du Pratt Vineyard | Anderson Valley

ABOUT THE VINEYARD

The small, five acre DuPratt vineyard sits on a ridge in Anderson Valley at an elevation of 1,550 feet, a few short miles from the charming seaside town of Elk. Planted in 1983 in upland timber sandstone soils, the fruit from this site distinctively reflects its mountainous locale, yielding wines with notable acidity and an appealing, rigid structure.

The Du Pratt Vineyard is part of the relatively newly designated, Mendocino Ridge AVA.

What sets this AVA apart from Anderson Valley is not only its elevation (>1200 ft) but also its proximity to the Pacific (<10 mi). These elevations provide diurnal temperature shifts that are more moderate than the valley floor. (The highs are lower and the lows are higher.)

This provides for a longer growing season with low sugar (alcohol) and rich, acidic fruit.

WINEMAKER NOTES

The DuPratt vineyard is a shining example of old vine Chardonnay in Anderson Valley. Teeming with compelling minerality, this sandy soils site-driven Chardonnay is intoxicatingly aromatic with notes of fresh meyer lemon honeysuckle, pear, caramel and white peach. On the palate it is full and round, rich and soft (without being flabby). The DuPratt Chardonnay starts with high acidity up front that leads to lemon, pear, vanilla flavor or even a sophisticated lemon curd with a chalky persistent finish. Higher elevation and pronounced coastal influences have yielded this lean and vibrant Chardonnay a complex body and a great potential for long aging.

This wine can be enjoyed now for its racy mineral vibrancy but will certainly age for 10-15 years for those who enjoy their chardonnays with some age.

ABOUT THE VINEYARD

Special Release, limited production.

Rosé is often produced as an afterthought…grapes that didn’t make the barrel for feature wines, leftover pickings that weren’t needed, etc.

Not this rosé.

Grown, picked and selected intentionally for rosé, 50% Pinot Noir + 50% Pinot Gris. These grapes were fermented in a concrete egg and then finished in neutral French oak for 6 months.The fruit hales from the Klindt Vineyard in the Deep End of Anderson Valley, where the cool climate elevates peak ripeness but allows for lower alcohol production.

ABOUT THE VINEYARD WINEMAKER NOTES

Special Release, limited production.

A co-fermented wine of 60% Pinot Gris + 40% Pinot Noir from the same vineyard. A light, fruity red...drinks like a Beaujolais. Served chilled.

Cofermentation is the practice in wine making of fermenting two or more grape varietals or field blends at the same time when producing a wine. Wells takes these two varietals (Pinot Gris + Pinot Noir), both growing in the Klindt Vineyard in Anderson Valley, and ferments them together in neutral oak. The result is the most beautiful combination of a light, fruity red wine. It's an absolute delight served chilled. We call it, Serendipity.

Serendipity is something interesting or pleasant happening by chance. Unexpected good luck... How wonderful that these two varietals, growing in the same field, can be blended together to create such a delicious wine.

ABOUT THE VINEYARD

Planted in 1997 The property is located between Highway 128 and Smith Hills Road, approximately 2.0 miles southeast of the town of Navarro, Mendocino County, California. Anderson Valley American Viticultural Area (AVA).

15.64± acres of premium varietal wine grape vineyard. Organically farmed), from the "Deep End" of Anderson Valley.

Extreme coastal influence and ancient dried river beds combine to create a growing climate for excellent Pinot Noir. The blend captures the complex mélange of soils located there. Weathered shale soils with veins of iron rich clay lay in the land holding 8 mossal selection clones.

The fruit is able to gain extra hang time as it ripens but due to the cool temps, sugars (thus alcohol) remain low.

Aged a year+ in bottle to further develop its flavor profile before releasing for consumption. Ready to drink now or cellar for another ~10 years.

An earthy, forest aroma filled with fruit from the rose family. These bramble flavors showcase this mediumbodied wine from the deep end of Anderson Valley with a complex richness as dense as a dark chocolate tort yet as a smooth in texture as a mousse. The light tannins dance circles on your tongue allowing a complex range of structure, depth and character while while staying elegant in its overall expression. These pretty fruit flavors, hold a bright acidity and elegant style. When tasting, you're greeted with an earthy, herbal, and spicy nose. Flavors of dark cherries, and chocolate shavings. The silky texture is balanced by bright acidity and fine-grained tannins.
