The high profile visit was intended to put the Irish Government’s message across to the Irish community here as to why Britain should stay in the EU in the forthcoming referendum on June 23rd. Wexford born Paul Kehoe is the first minister from the recently formed Irish govern-
ment to visit Britain-and Birmingham was the chosen venue- ahead of London, Manchester or Liverpool. Accompanying the minister was Irish Ambassador to Britain, Dan Mulhall. The visit to England`s Second City was hosted by Birmingham Irish Association. Prior to introducing Minister Kehoe to the large attendance, Ambassador Mulhall stressed that neither he or the minister were here to suggest how Irish people should vote in the referendum, “We want to share with you the hope that Britain will stay in the EU,” he said.
