Tony®-nominated musical Mrs. Doubtfire is coming to Worcester
The Tony® Nominated musical Mrs. Doubtfire, a hilarious and family-friendly comedy, is coming to The Hanover Theatre June 26-28, and we had a chance to chat with ensemble member Jayden Cyrus Nelson about their journey and experience with the show.
Fresh out of Boston Conservatory at Berklee, Jayden quickly found themselves on the path to Broadwaylevel performance. “I was incredibly fortunate to be invited to audition for Mrs. Doubtfire shortly after graduation,” they said. After sending a self-tape and returning to New York City for callbacks, Jayden received the exciting news they’d been offered a role and went straight into rehearsals.
Jayden describes Mrs. Doubtfire as a story about love, family, and hope. “There is an importance of maintaining relationships when faced with hardship and change. It celebrates the power of love and hope, and of course, we all love happy endings,” they said.
The show is packed with high-energy dance numbers that push Jayden as a performer, including their favorite, the “Make Me A Woman” scene. “It’s a fun transitional moment that gives the audience a glimpse into the inspiration behind the iconic Doubtfire look,” they said.

For Jayden, the magic of Mrs. Doubtfire lies in its mix of nostalgia and fresh storytelling. Fans of the movie will catch familiar Easter eggs, while new elements bring the story alive in a completely new way. Ultimately, Jayden hopes the Worcester audience will leave “… feeling hopeful, uplifted, and thoroughly entertained. Most importantly, I hope everyone walks away understanding and embracing the message of the show: ‘All is not lost, as long as there is love.’”

Complexions Contemporary Ballet
Celebrating Love, Lenny Kravitz, and David Bowie
Complexions Contemporary Ballet launches The Hanover Theatre’s new Dance Series on November 7 with an evening that blends rock ‘n’ roll edge with breathtaking artistry.
The program features Love Rocks, set to the iconic music of Lenny Kravitz. High-octane and deeply expressive, the company explores the many layers of love through virtuosic movement, from tender duets to exhilarating ensemble sections. With every beat, Kravitz’s soul, rhythm, and energy surge through the choreography.
Audiences will also experience a special excerpt from Star Dust, Dwight Rhoden’s 2016 celebration of David Bowie. More than a tribute, Star Dust honors Bowie’s continual reinvention and boundary-breaking spirit. The dancers channel fragments of his many personas, creating a kaleidoscope of movement that captures his restless energy.
Since its founding in 1994 by choreographer Dwight Rhoden and legendary dancer Desmond Richardson, Complexions has been celebrated for breaking traditional boundaries, blending the virtuosity of ballet with the immediacy of contemporary culture.
Worcester audiences can experience Complexions’ groundbreaking artistry firsthand this fall as the company opens the Dance Series with a program that celebrates passion, reinvention, and the transformative power of dance.

A Christmas Carol in a new light
A Q&A with award-winning Lighting Designer Charlie Morrison
Each holiday season, A Christmas Carol to evolve while honoring its beloved traditions. This year’s production introduces a new set by scenic designer Kelly Tighe and original music by Steve Gagliastro, offering fresh creative opportunities for the artistic team. Lighting designer Charlie Morrison shares how these exciting changes have inspired a renewed approach to one of Worcester’s favorite holiday traditions.
This year, our annual production of Carol will feature a new set designed by Kelly Tighe and new music composed by Steve Gagliastro, what opportunities does this present to you as a lighting designer?
C: The new scenery basically means a complete rethink of the lighting design. The lighting is always laid out structurally around the physical parameters of the scenery. Since we have a new scenic footprint, we’ll have a new lighting design to go along with it. And similarly, the new music will significantly change the way certain sections of the show are lit. Both of these new elements are exciting and give the entire team a chance to revisit, rethink, and refresh all the elements of the show.
I understand you have worked on several productions with the new set designer, can you share a little bit about those experiences?
C: Kelly Tighe is a fantastic collaborator and one of my favorite people to work with. We’ve worked on dozens of projects together. I’ve always liked his aesthetic, and he’s the type of scenic designer who always has lighting in the back of his mind when he’s laying out a show, because he knows that good lighting is key to making the set look great. He’s also a great problem solver, an incredibly nice person, and an asset to everyone else involved in the production. He’s great to have in the room.
Is there a specific scene you’d like audiences to look out for in this year’s production of A Christmas Carol?
C: I always enjoy the spooky and magical scenes in the show. Marley’s appearance is a highlight, as well as the Christmas Future sequence.
A Christmas Carol returns to the main stage December 17-28, generously sponsored by Assumption University. Get tickets today at TheHanoverTheatre.org/ACC.

When Henry first met Anna of Cleves, he disguised himself, possibly imagining some sort of a romantic reaction. Estate & Tax Planning
Groups save on tickets!
Planning a night out with friends, family, neighbors, or colleagues? Groups of 10 or more enjoy exclusive savings with at least 10% off each ticket, early access to prime seating, and reduced handling fees. Plus, our easy GroupTools platform lets everyone in your party pay individually online, so you don’t have to collect money.
Reserving is simple. You can hold seats in advance and finalize your headcount closer to the show (final numbers and payment are due 30 days before the performance). Even better, group tickets include a modest $1 per ticket handling fee.
Our team is ready to help you plan the perfect outing, whether it’s a birthday, school trip, company event, or just a fun night out with friends.
Book your group of 10 or more today by calling 877.571.7469 x1689 or visiting TheHanoverTheatre.org/Groups.

A new chapter for the JMAC
In just a few years, the Jean McDonough Arts Center (JMAC) has become one of Worcester’s most vital cultural hubs. Located at 20 Franklin Street, the JMAC is home to the Worcester PopUp and the BrickBox Theater, two spaces created to expand access to the arts. Founded in 2016 by the Worcester Cultural Coalition and named in honor of philanthropist Jean McDonough after her transformative $2 million gift, the JMAC has thrived as a home for creativity, inclusion, and innovation. Now fully managed and operated by The Hanover Theatre, the JMAC enters a new chapter as Hanover’s “second stage,” hosting community-centered and experimental performances. Supported by renewed commitments from the McDonough Family Foundation and the Barr Foundation, the JMAC Access Grant Program continues to empower artists and cultural groups across Central Massachusetts.
Together, The Hanover Theatre and the JMAC offer a full spectrum of artistic experiences, from Broadway tours to local performances that connect Worcester’s creative community. Explore upcoming events at JMACWorcester.org.

A Look Back at Broadway
At This Theatre
The Hanover Theatre had its spectacular opening on March 14, 2008, with legendary Broadway star Bernadette Peters and the Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra, after a $31 million restoration effort.
Originally opened in 1904 as the Franklin Square Theatre, this building had a storied run as a Broadway touring playhouse (including featuring celebrated French actress Sarah Bernhardt in 1906), then The Grand Theatre. In 1926, it was transformed into the opulent and luxurious Poli's Palace, a “Grand Movie Palace” showcasing vaudeville acts, silent films, and “talkies,” designed by renowned theatre architect Thomas W. Lamb. Eventually, this building became the Loew’s-Poli Theatre, and then a modern Showcase Cinema in 1973 playing blockbuster movies such as “STAR WARS,” “ALIEN,” “JAWS,” and many more until shutting its doors in 1998.
Since opening, The Hanover Theatre has been home to over 2,440 performances, 3 million visitors, 114 touring Broadway shows, 415 concerts, and 166 family programs on its stage. Highlights include Tony Bennett, Aretha Franklin, Ringo Starr, Elvis Costello, Jackson Browne, John Legend, Neil Young, Diana Ross, David Copperfield, Kevin James, and Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre.
The theatre’s most recent tenants include Pete Davidson, Sarah Brightman, and Broadway touring shows Hansen

Cell Phones: Out of respect to the performers and fellow audience members, please silence all cell phones while in the theatre.
Children: All patrons MUST have a valid ticket. To allow all patrons to enjoy the show, children under the age of four are not permitted to attend THT performances unless they are designated as a family show. Please call the box office to see which shows are appropriate for younger children.
Concessions: Please do not bring outside food and drinks to the theatre. Snacks and beverages are available for sale in the lobby.
First Aid: Please speak with the house manager or any of the ushers if you need first aid or have any sort of accident or medical emergency. Insurance regulations require that such instances be documented immediately.
Inclement Weather Policy: It is generally impossible for touring shows and performances to be rescheduled, so we do not cancel events due to inclement weather. As with other touring performances and sporting events, we are unable to refund tickets. In extreme weather conditions we will do our best to exchange subscriber, Flex package and member tickets to an alternate performance, if applicable. To protect your purchase, the theatre strongly recommends that you add on ticket insurance at the time of ticket purchase through Booking Protect.
Lost and Found: Management is not responsible for lost or stolen items. Items found at the theatre will be held by the house manager. If you have lost an item, please contact the box office as soon as possible to make a report. You will then be contacted if the item has been found. Persons exhibiting intoxication or drug use are also not permitted. At select performances, additional security measures may be in place, such as YONDR pouches for cell phones and other devices. Offenders may be removed from the theatre without compensation.
Resale of Tickets for Profit: Ticket holders may on occasion be in a position where they have purchased tickets that they later cannot personally use and will want to donate, give, trade or sell these tickets to friends or acquaintances. Management does not discourage private transactions of this nature. However, we may take appropriate actions to thwart the organized resale of tickets for profit by third parties, which we do not condone. The public is advised to be careful purchasing tickets from individuals they do not know personally, as such tickets may be void and in such cases admission to the theatre will be denied without compensation.
Standing Room: All persons entering the theatre must have a valid ticket, and are not allowed to stand in the back or aisles.
