elcome to the 9th Annual East Bay Women’s Conference presented by the Walnut Creek Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Bureau in conjunction with Chevron and John Muir Health!

Thank you for joining us for what promises to be an extraordinary day! What an incredible journey it has been since inaugurating the first East Bay Women’s Conference nine years ago. Through the years, we’ve been honored to host amazing speakers who’ve shared their vision, passion, and stories of inspiration. This year’s conference theme “It Takes Just One” inspires our dreams of tomorrow and reminds us that the ability to impact change and create a brighter future lies within each of us. Today we’ll hear from amazing women who have overcome obstacles, embraced the future, and created positive change for women everywhere. Through their inspiration and life experiences, they will remind us of our inherent strength as women and the extraordinary impact of that strength as we continue life’s journey. The Walnut Creek Chamber of Commerce & Visitors Bureau greatly appreciates the support of Chevron and John Muir Health and our many EBWC sponsors whose generosity has helped to make this ninth anniversary event possible. We thank our incredibly talented EBWC committee whose time, passion, and commitment to this event has produced an outstanding program. Again, we thank you for your participation and enthusiasm as we set out on today’s journey together. Embrace the day and expand your horizons. Get reacquainted with old friends and welcome new ones. We hope the day enriches and inspires you. As always, we hope something touches your heart that lasts a lifetime as you continue to find your passion in the world. Enjoy the day!

Breakout Sessions Session One 11:15 a.m. – 12:15 p.m. “Negotiations and Influence: The Art of Working With People to Get Things Done” Holly Schroth, PhD Back By and! Senior Lecturer Dem Haas School of Business Popular University of California, Berkeley

On the job and in our personal lives, we all need a broad array of negotiation skills in order to get our solutions accepted and implemented. Using a simulated negotiation exercise, you will be introduced to a “basic toolbox” of negotiation skills and learn how to negotiate more effectively in both collaborative and competitive situations. In the process, you will explore your negotiation style and gain a greater appreciation for the importance of planning and preparation, “expanding the pie” (or ways to increase value), and developing strong working relationships. Come prepared to gain greater confidence in your ability to negotiate and manage conflict!

Session Two 2:45 p.m. – 3:45 p.m. “Wise Women Dress Up”

Suzie Woodward Morris Chief Image Officer / Frockstar Strategic Imaging She has been called the “Frockstar of High Tech” and the “Wizard of Perception.” You’ll find her in the cubicles and offices of Apple, Autodesk, Cisco, CNET, Dell, Disney, Hilton Hotels, Microsoft, Luxury Real Estate Offices, Pixar, Stanford University, University of Texas Health Science Center, and Wells Fargo coaching the always competitive, creative, savvy executives who know that “Wise Women Dress ‘Up’”! Suzie will instantly transform members of the audience while showing them how to navigate the intricacies of visual and verbal branding. “Your image is my business: understanding the secrets of how to dress, communicate and how you are perceived will give you the competitive edge necessary for 2014!”

“The Mind / Body Connection” Alan D. Brast, Ph.D., C.C.H.T., CSA Alan D. Brast, Ph.D., Inc.

“Have you noticed it might be getting harder and harder to shut down “mind chatter”? Do you find stress and worry running the show? This happens when we lose our ability to stay in charge of our sub-conscious mind and it begins taking control of thoughts. Numerous studies have shown that the way we think has an enormous impact on our physical wellness. Diabetes, heart disease and cancer, along with the strength of our immune system, are heavily impacted by how our mind processes the stress and rigors of daily living. This presentation will teach how to enlist our mind as an ally to health rather than an adversary. At its conclusion, participants will be able to control “mind chatter,” handle stress and worry appropriately and learn to let go of issues which cannot be changed.

“Power and Promise: Why Women Rock the World”

Lisa T. Wood, M.A., Professor Consciousness and Transformative Studies John F. Kennedy University Warren Buffett is bullish on women, the Dalai Lama says Western women will save the world and an unprecedented effort by corporations, charities and political organizations is targeting women’s untapped power like never before. But is this the only story about women’s rising influence? A compelling and well-documented fact is missing from these discussions—that women are the more spiritual gender. This influences what we do with power. Join the conversation to learn how women are reshaping our world for the better as Lisa introduces a 5-point blueprint to confidently direct your rising influence at work and home.

2014 EAST BAY WOMEN’S CONFERENCE
