After eight years of drought, CEIT Warriors’ pep squad took home the title as the Sangka 2018 Cheerdance competition Champion at CSU Sanchez Gymnasium on October 17, Wednesday night.

CEIT, which took the 3rd place last year, danced, flipped, and soared in the air with their warrior- themed dance that awestruck the whole gymnasium. They stole the show wowing even the opposing crowds with their display of flexibility and grace, all wrapped in an exciting routine.

“They are all amazing, the performers tonight are amazing”, said Ms. Selma Sanz Tibon, the chair judge of the competition, when asked about the champion’s performance. “Neat

Prior to their victory, the college has never won a cheerdance championship title for the past eight years, making this year’s win a real-great comeback.

With this, Mr. Jovelito R. Ibano, one of the CEIT Warrior’s cheerdance trainer, expressed his surprise after the victory.

Warriors denied the CAS Hunters’ chance to win their backto-back tilt by garnering a total score of 91 points. George Gomez, CEIT Governor applauded his cheerdancer’s performance this year. “Tanan nay klase-klaseng taste, and we were blessed na ang among performance ang isa sa mga nagustuhan sa mga judges.”

However, the Warriors blew away the competition with a more impressive routine, leaving the CAS Hunters with 89 points this

year.

With the division of the former College of Agricultural Sciences and Natural Resources (CASNR), the newly established CFES Sentinels reaped 86.3 points, coming as second runner-up. On the other hand, CAA Knights and CED Mages ended up tied for third runner-up with identical 85 points while the first time participation of SHS Viking rounded them on the fifth place with 71.3 points.

Even though the Warriors has failed the expectations of the crowd for the past years, they were thankful for all the support they got until they finally reached this win.

Targaryens Outsmart Other Houses in the Sangka 2018 Quiz Bee Raven Daryle Mae Suarez CEIT Orange Warriors bagged total of 83 points after emerging 1st, 2nd, 4th and 5th place during the Sangka 2018 Quiz Bee held at the CAS AVR, Thursday, October 18.

Leading the easy and average round, Glenn Bigcas showed his competence in the field of Philippine politics, literature, history and geography as he outranked 29 other participants from different college departments and senior high school. He garnered a corresponding 30 points for CEIT.

“Wala man ko nagexpect pero wala pud mi nagkulang sa review ug gibuhat namo ang among best taman sa makaya,” Bigcas stated. He also added that their review focused on politics and constitution is a major factor in his triumph.

Cheers of pride, passion, and excitement filled the entire campus ground when the Caraga State University(CSU) Main Campus conducted the opening ceremony of the Sangka Dos Mil Dieciocho: “Unity and Sportsmanship in Championing CSU Core Values and Achieving ASEAN goals” was the theme of this year’s event last October 15.

Dr. Anthony M. Penaso, the University President, led the opening ceremony by inspiring the studentry with his welcome remarks in which he highlighted three main points. First, he stated that the event is not only for the intellectual formation of students but also to give importance to their physical formation through the various events. Next, he encouraged everyone to strive and promote healthy active living among students. Lastly, he called upon the youth to support one another in the spirit of sportsmanship and solidarity.

Dr. Penaso also later announced that he will not be around for a couple of days due to his Board of Regents’ meeting in Davao city.

On the latter part of the event, the banner racing took place. The banners served as physical reminders of the dedication and hard work of the student athletes that they demand themselves with, throughout the course of the season. Meanwhile, PASUC Qualifiers last year were chosen to light the torch.

House Lannister sizzles the dance floor Javechan Cupin House Lannister, College of Arts and Sciences, owned the dance floor with an overall score of 220 points during the Dance Competitions in the Sangka dos Mil Dieciocho on Wednesday night at the Sanchez Gymnasium, Caraga State University – Main Campus.

The Red Hunters of House Lannister performed a beautiful interpretation on the negative effects of extreme cellular phone usage and utilized modern technology which provoked the crowd’s sentiments and emotions.

Indeed, the Lannisters’ performance caught the hearts of the people which swung them to take the championship title in the Contemporary Dance competition.

The following houses took the runner-up spots respectively: House Stark (CEd), House Martell (SHS), House Baratheon (CFES), House Targaryen (CEIT), and House Tyrell (CAA).

Again, the Lannisters proved dominance as champions when they sharply performed in the Street Dance Competition.

Their well-synchronized dance moves caught the applause of the audience and the judges.

They were followed by the following houses respectively: House Targaryen (CEIT), House Stark (CEd), House Tyrell (CAA), House Baratheon (CFES), and House Martell (SHS).

House Stark, College of Education (CEd), performed the best charming dance moves winning the first place on the Folk Dance Competition. Their dance was so graceful that it caught the heart of the judges and audiences. They were followed in the ranking by the following houses: House Lannister (CAS), House Tyrell (CAA), House Martell (SHS), House Targaryen (CEIT), and House Baratheon (CFES).

Meanwhile, the Targaryens swept their competitors in the Dance Sports Competition winning the two categories: Latin and Standard.

The dashing dynamic duo in the Latin category astonished the judges and cheered up the whole Targaryen House. They were followed in ranking by the following houses: House Lannister (CAS), House Stark (CEd), House Baratheon (CFES), House Martell (SHS) and House Tyrell (CAA).

Another nailing performance from the Targaryens took them on top of the Standard category of the Dance Sports Competition.

Their groove mesmerized the crowd and gained the best remarks from the judges. They were then followed respectively by: House Lannister (CAS), House Stark (CEd), and House Martell (SHS). House Tyrell (CAA) and House Baratheon (CFES) was unable to participate in the category.

During the start of the week-long Intramurals Meet, House Targaryen showed off its consistency as they won two of the major events that set the bar of competence for the rest of the competing houses.

In his message during the Awards Night Dr. Rolando Paluga, Vice President for Academic Affairs said, “We should learn from everything, when we lose we should learn from losing, and when we won we should learn from winning.” With his inspirational message he called the colleges with much enthusiasm.

All four Targaryen candidates for Mr. and Ms. CSU made it to the finals of the pageant, and a pair were crowned as the new ambassadors of the university. The night after the pageant, a winning performance of the Targaryen pep squad paid back the eight-year drought in the Cheerdance competition.

Although, they went through a lot of challenges in the middle of the week, they were able to remain competent and make every effort to clinch and stay at the top of the

It was a striking opening words from Hon. Alfredo M. Coro, Municipal Mayor of Del Carmen, Surigao del Norte, on his talk to the attendees of the annual Scitech4Dev forum held at LMX Convention Center on October 23, afternoon.

“Science had taught us that if you want a sustainable, at least on marine and freshwater resources, you have to fix life below the water.

[That’s why] I have to work on programs to make sure we can implement it correctly”, said Hon. Coro.

On his talk on the “Role of Science and Technology in Shoning up Del Carmen into Sustainable Town”, Mayor Coro shared that how they govern their community by science is through the implementation of science through local governance.

One of their town’s innovative step towards environmental sustainability, the Siargao Biosphere Project, has earned interests and recognitions from local to national communities, and got them additional aid and support for the implementation of their projects.

A science-based governance was Hon. Coro’s goal as he narrates his story as Del Carmen Mayor had started. Science-based assessments, Design and Finance Innovation, Monitor and Measuring results were being practiced in their municipality garnering an

Mayor Coro talk was just one of the forum’s highlight on this year’s Science and Technology for Development or SciTech4Dev 2018 forum.

Now on it’s fourth run, this threeday forum from October 23-25 was themed: “International Science and Technology for Inclusive Education Towards Countryside Development” spearheaded by the Caraga State University-Research and Extension.

The forum was attended by the CSUan community and stakeholders with various local to international guest speakers invited to share their expertise on research and development.

Kagandahan Makes It to the Top Dean Joshua Solis Kenneth Joy “Kagandahan” Villaba flashed off her competitors in the second cycle of the Ms. Q and A pageant during the Sangka Dos Mil Dieciocho on Friday at the Sanchez Gymnasium, Caraga State Univers ity – Main Campus.

Kagandahan is a “resbaker” who failed her bid on last year’s cycle. With the warm support of her competing house, House Martell of the Senior High School, she was able to slay all question served in all three Q and A portions of the pageant: Wit Lang, Debattles, and the Beklamation.

“ I am very happy of course and kinda proud that I won over John (Lasco) who is a very smart and beautiful person, and above all, I feel like this entire thing is not happening”, she said in an interview.

When asked if she felt like an underdog in the competition, she said,” Yes, because I’m the youngest and I kinda feel that no one is expecting me to win the pageant.”

She walked the Laro ng Lahi in Cosplay Attire portion in a glittery fairy costume playing Takyan.

For her Wit Lang question, Kagandahan was asked with the question, “How much is that doggie on the window”.

She responded with the emphasis of personifying the dog in the window as every person’s dream; she then inspired everyone to pursue their dreams. The answer advanced her to top 6 in which she had to face a fellow candidate in the Debattles.

In the Debattles round, the candidates handpicked their opponents’ name. Kagandahan got paired with John “Johnna” Lasco, another resbaker from last cycle. They were asked to defend their side of the question: “Sino ang jowang mas nakakaasar kaaway? Ang maingay o walang imik?”

Kagandahan was to defend walang imik. She pointed out being threatened by silent people who are frugal in giving out opinions and smoothly defended her side of the question.

Kagandahan made it to the Beklamation round in her mermaid-tail gown with gold laces and a feather-adorned headdress. She was first to answer in the round in which she picked the question, “Which would you prefer, lights on or lights off?” The crowd went wild when she gracefully interpreted the question saying in non-verbatim, “I would choose lights off because everybody needs darkness in their lives in order to see the light.”

With that answer, Kagandahan outsmarted the pageant of wits and glamour. She was crowned that night as the new Ms. Q and A and will reign until another wins next year.

Alongside Kagandahan is Ashly Rica Guinancias who collected most of the minor and corporate awards: Best in Production Number, Best in Laro ng Lahi in Cosplay Attire, Choreographer’s choice, Miss Natasha, and Photographer’s choice award.

Emblems invigorate the Sangka houses

HBO hit series Game of Thrones inspired emblem representatives astounded crowd as they tread in character to inspire their colleges in the first ever House Representation Competition in the Sangka dos Mil Dieciocho at the Sanchez Gymnasium, Caraga State University – Main Campus on Tuesday.

The six participating colleges represented the following Game of Thrones house:

In the awarding program on Saturday, House Stark emerged as the victors in the House Representation competition. The competition was judged by representatives per college who are avid Game of Thrones fans.

The judges were not allowed to score their respective colleges.

House Stark of CEd was represented by Jon Snow portrayed by Dave Luminarias. “Sa preparation pa lang naningkamot nako kung unsaon nako para ma inspire ko mudala sa among House didto sa stage,” Luminarias shared in an interview (non-verbatim).

He also shared that he did not want to waste his costume designer’s time and effort which made him more determined to win.

Jon Snow gathered the whole Stark House in vigor as he recites the Oath of the Night’s Watch. He was accompanied by two northern kingsguard that also spoke their monologues that lifted House Stark’s spirit.

Along with Jon Snow of CEd were Daenerys Targaryen of CEIT, Cersie Lannister of CAS, Robert Baratheon of CoFES, Margaery Tyrell of CAA, and Oberyn Martell of the SHS. These participating emblem representatives were ranked respectively.

The Emblem Representation Competition is set to be a regular competition for the Sangkas to come. HAY THE GOLD PANICLES

King and Queen with Dragon Hearts Christine Joy P. Abellano With their charms, poise, and wit under pressure, Mr. Janriel Cauba and Ms. MaryAnn Pomoy, both from the College of Engineering and Information Technology, wooed the crowd and were crowned as the new Mr. and Ms. CSU 2018, last October 15, 2018 at Sanchez Gymnasium, Caraga State University Main Campus.

Both first timers in the competition, the two fiery dragons of House Targaryen were not the first expected ones to claim the titles, knowing that they have competitors taking their comebacks to re-pursue the crowns. Yet being the new faces did not become a disadvantage for the CEIT duo, as they caught the hearts of the judges and the people, and brought home the crowns for the said pageant.

Knowing Them More Mr. Janriel Cauba is a first year Bachelor of Science in Information Technology student and came from the humble city of Bislig, the Booming City by the bay. He is one of the rookie candidates in our line up in this year’s pageant who stood out and impressed this year’s array of judges.

Our Miss CSU is Ms. Mary-Ann Pomoy, a first year in Bachelor of Science in Geodetic Engineering. She came from the Municipality of Loreto, Agusan del Sur also known as the Land of Golden Opportunities. She currently holds the title as Mutya Hong Butuan 2018 Ambassadress for Culture and Heritage and she held four titles during the year 2017.

Setting Things On Fire During an exclusive interview with our new CSU ambassadors, their preparations for the said competition were asked. “It was indeed stressful yet an experience that can be treasured”, Janriel described. “Both mental and physical aspects were tested and were drained during my preparation, in order for me to give my best. One thing I also learned from it is that hardships are needed to reach success.”

As for Mary-Ann, she focused on her inner wellbeing. “Aside from preparing myself physical for the competition, I also looked after my mental well-being. In social media, I avoided negative posts online and indulged myself with positivity through browsing positive messages and posts. Delving in to positive energy was a

necessity for me to be focused and to have a good mindset all throughout my journey.”

Striving Harder for a Reason

When talking about who pushed him to win the title, Janriel quickly pointed the people from his department. “Aside from my family and friends, the support I got from my colleagues from CEIT became a motivation for me to strive harder and do my best during the pageant night,” he eagerly shared. “Lastly, I also sought motivation from myself and pushed myself to do more than what is required because I chose to join the competition to bring glory to those who supported me.”

Fortunately, Mary-Ann also stated the same people but with a different reason.

“I was actually handpicked by our college’s pageant coordinators to join. I didn’t go through the screening for our Mr. and Ms. CSU representatives. At first, I really wasn’t interested in joining since I wanted to focus more on my academics as a student, but our college governor and other colleagues from CEIT told me that they wanted me to join since I already had past experiences in joining pageants like this. It was hard not to

say yes from them,” she elaborated. Having a background in joining pageants and getting used to the pressure became an advantage for her to win the crown. “I also wanted to prove that I can win and I can bring pride for CEIT despite without going through the screening,” she mentioned.

Raising Conflicts

Janriel and Mary-Ann have totally different experiences in terms of joining pageants. It was Janriel’s first time to be a candidate for a big pageant while MaryAnn has already joined contests such as this one. Being a rookie put a lot of pressure over Janriel’s shoulders since most of the contestants that joined were experienced. “I was able to join the same kind of competition when I was a senior high school student but it was nothing like this. It’s my first time to join such a nerve-wracking event and I was even able to win it. It’s something I could never forget,” he stated with enthusiasm.

Meanwhile, for the candidates of Miss CSU 2018, there are those who once participated in the previous years that made comebacks this year to reclaim the crown.

This made the spectators predict that maybe those that took a comeback will be able to snag the title. But unexpectedly, the fresh face from CEIT took over the stage and wowed the

judges. “Para sa ako, kaning mga pageants, this is more on proving yourself that you can do it. If I take time to compare myself to the other candidates, it will become a weakness. I should focus more on my own strengths and what I can do to improve myself,” she explained when asked about the intrigues.

Their Winning Moment

Despite being fresh faces in the university, the two Targaryens were called out to be one of the top five finalists for winning the crown. “Being called out as one of the top five made me put my game face on,” Janriel said with a grin. “The first thing that came into my mind was this: the battle is ON. Since everything went down back to zero, it made me think that basin malabwan ko sa uban that’s why I tried my best to look and to answer confidently during the Q and A.” Janriel was able to pull the Q and A off with his answer stating that achieving the CSUan vision is promoting everything that CSU has is through social media.

For Mary-Ann, being in the top five raised the pressure higher, but she only had one thing in mind, the Q and A. “I had to answer the question right to get the crown. When you are going to be called out for the top five, your goal shifts from trying your best to be one of the finalists to being the next crowned queen. That’s why ang pinakauna nisulod sa akong huna-huna kay dapat maka-answer jud ko,” she explained, recalling her winning moment on stage.

Looking Forward

Now that they are our new university representatives and ambassadors, they were asked on what are the problems in the university that they want to raise and make a solution during their reign. “As the new Mr. CSU, one thing I am currently facing is that it is being questioned why I won the title. It saddens me thinking that the people questioning this are the same people within the university I am chosen to represent,” he stated with a heavy sigh. He believes that if there are things lacking within the university, it would be having respect and unity despite the diversity of the colleges and the students. “With this, I advocate of sportsmanship

and camaraderie. For me, the law of ecosystem is true, since it says that we all are connected and related to one another, therefore we need each other. Having camaraderie and working together can make us quickly achieve our goals,” he said, encouraging that we as CSUans should at all times be people of sportsmanship.

On the other hand, Mary-Ann strongly supports the improvement of the mental health for the students. “If given a chance to have an advocacy for the students as Miss CSU, one thing that comes into my mind is the mental health, since the existence of the mental health disorders is now rampant,” she firmly said. “I would like to support programs that will assess the psychology of our students if they are victims of mental health disorders. The tertiary education is very crucial and full of pressure, and this drives students to have depression and other mental health illnesses now. I would like to support programs that will improve the wellbeing of the students in CSU,”

Having bravery and persistence became the main factor as to why they won as our well-deserved king and queen. But what made them stand out was their dragon-like hearts that every CSUan possesses, and clearly, our new ambassador and ambassadress are examples as to how a true-blue CSUan should be. Let us look forward for the future of CSU with Mr. Janriel Cauba and Ms. Mary-Ann Pomoy as our new Mr. and Ms. CSU 2018. HAY THE GOLD PANICLES

Accreditors Stress Licensure Results, Best Practices

College of Education (CEd) took it as a challenge as the accreditation survey team pointed out that producing topnotchers is a manifestation of best practices among the institution during the AACCUP Accreditation Survey Visit held at the CHCI Room, Mechatronics Building on Monday, October 15, 2018.

The accreditation team evaluated the profiles and the compliance reports of the Bachelor of Elementary Education (BEEd) and Bachelor of Secondary Education (BSEd) program for its Level III, Phase 2 accreditation.

The survey team was comprised by Dr. Maria

Glenda O. Delara from Philippine Normal University; Dr. Agapito M. Bayron Jr. from Central Mindanao University; and Dr. Manuel T. Corpuz, the AACUP Director and Overall Coordinator of the AACUP Accreditation Survey Team.

A video presentation highlighting the different areas of each programs were shown right after the opening program which was held at the Organic Agriculture Training Center earlier at 9am.

They recommended the college that instead of publishing one unified book, it is highly suggested that they should produce one book for each program. Among other aspect they have tackled during the survey is on the tracing mechanism of the college on its graduates, extension services of each programs, usage of instructional materials, and doing some intervention programs for the Lice sure Examination for Teachers (LET).

The team raised several questions and clarifications after the video presentation to the presenters headed by the CEd Dean, Dr.

CAS COD Programs Wow AACUP Accreditors Eliphaz A. Signar Jr. II

BS Mathematics and BS Biology, two of the CHED Center of Development, were surveyed for the level three phase two by the AACUP accreditation Survey visit, at the Mechatronics and Robotics Building, Caraga State University, on October 15, 2018.

During the viewing of multimedia presentation, the accreditors applauded the research and extension projects for both programs.

“I am overwhelmed, and amazed by the projects and activities you have done, you are using your specialization in helping the society,” said Dr. Maribel Tizo, during the BS Biology forum.

The accreditors examined the jobs and work description of the program graduates. The BS Math program showed facts and details

through survey showing the 92 percent of employed graduates of which 58 percent of the graduates having Math-related jobs.

During the video presentation of the Biology program, the accreditors revisited the data of fresh graduate employment and found it misleading. With the faculty’s quick data review, they showed that the real statistics was 73 percent, most of them working as teacher, project and research consultants, and most of the unemployed were those who studied master’s degree and medicine.

The accreditors also inquired if there were students engaged to global, national, and local competitions. Both programs showed evidences. Two paper presentations from biology, and one from mathematics recently.

Also Dr. Tizo ask the mathematics department if was there any teaching materials for the new

math subject named the Mathematics in the Modern World, and they gave the hard bound of the said book which is in an outcome-based form.

Out from the very intriguing moment of accreditation Dr. Anthony Penaso, the University President, opened the survey with a joke to make everyone comfortable, “We are good friends with Dr. Partosa, so subjectively, Pasa na tayo, but objectively ewan.”

The Accreditation for Mathematics ended with Dr. Cornelia Partosa suggesting that CSU Mathematics program should focus on the research project, because it helps the future mathematicians and the society. BS GE and BS IT Programs Impress AACCUP Dean Joshua Solis The Bachelor of Science in Geodetic Engineering and the Bachelor of Science in Information Technology flawlessly showcased their programs respectively on Monday during the Level III Phase II Accreditation Survey Visit at the Mechatronics Building, Caraga State University Main Campus.

CEIT Dean, Engr. Meriam Santillan, presented a number of features in the BS Geodetic Engineering program at the GEO SAFER Mindanao. She showcased the mapping and water-level monitoring system updated on the GEO SAFER Mindanao online platform. The system was able to predict flooding on remote areas in the region during heavy rains, and proved to have benefited the local government units.

For their research and extension, the program highlighted their Augmented Reality Sandbox which have been exhibited in their roadshows. Also, their SAGO project as one of the first DOST-PCIEERD funded project in the university.

The BS Information Technology program presented their facilities at the second level of the Mechatronics and Robotics Building.

They showcased their DOST-PCIEERD Navigatu project that wowed the accreditors.

The program highlighted graduates who are being incubated to be CEOs of their own companies. These start-ups are IT related and one of which has already been ran on the beta phase.

The only comments from the accreditors were on the abrupt dropping rate on the program’s publication. Dean Santillan defended that decreased number of the program’s publication was due to the government’s “Foreign Travel Policy”.

“Yes, it is progressive and it is positively improved. One is the facilities are not the same as the last year. It is not the same as the last year in CSU, there are a lot of senior high school students and freshmen which makes this year’s intramurals more interesting and more fun not only for sports and for literary and dance.”

I would say we value tradition as much as we value innovation. Uhm, we redirect our ways to improve and appreciate tradition without breaking its core. Uhm, and lastly, we created this night market and this market in that way not only to showcase sportsmanship and intellectual skills but also to showcase their entrepreneurial skills because that we students to participate this year’s SANGKA.”

“For me, so far, it is progressive even though in the first part of the program was a bit dry but they paid it off during the meetup of all different kinds of college in the Caraga State University. It was okay and improved, so far, between the last year’s intramurals and this year’s has difference but all is well in this year’s intramurals.”

For you, what is the highlight in this year’s intramurals? Why?

“Perhaps, first is the sports activities especially cheerdance competition because it is my first time to see being held at night plus it is more proper because it has rubber floormats. Then, in sports events, as what I have said recently, the athletes performance have improved through sports club and their activeness in their designated sports club makes them improved.”

For you, what is the highlight in this year’s intramurals? Why?

“I think not only the ‘highlight’ but the ‘highlights’ is the night events especially the cheerdance in the CSU and this Friday’s event Miss Q & A. Uhm uh uh. And also the night market event, (I) guess this is a first in the intramurals history in the CSU and stalls and also the sports. I guess most highlighted are the night events.”

“For me, it is all about the sports wherein differentiation of colleges has taken place. Before CAA and CFES were made, it was united as CASNR. The separation or creation of CAA and CFES were good and interesting because a lot of different bold teams was divided.

The colleges are more competitive as of this year’s intramurals, especially CEIT that is dominant.”

“For me, the changes are the population because, as of this year’s intramurals, there are a lot of freshmen. It is not that fun and lively compared to last year’s but the excitement is still the same.”

“All I can say is that it has been improved a bit like the roads and the bulb installment unlike the past years, it was kind of vague and untidy to look at so the impression to the students would be like an unplanned event. This year’s intramurals is way better than the last year’s.

“For me, this year’s intramurals is organized in terms of sports.

When we talk about literature or writing, I am not oriented to that but when it comes to sports, I am well-rounded especially women’s volleyball because I am a coordinator. Their facilities as of this year’s intramurals are well-utilized such as declaring of schedule; last intramurals were a bit vague about their schedule, plus, in our college we lack athletes. Whenever we want to substitute, we cannot do substitution because of no participation from co-students.

The last year’s intramurals was more extravagant than this year’s.”

“It has improved because there are lot of freshmen players unlike before there were no freshmen players participated in the last year’s intramurals.”

For you, what is the highlight in this year’s intramurals?

Why?

“Of course, it is the sports and the cheerdance for me. It is because we are all awaiting for the surprises in each college representative for the cheerdance and, of course, for the sports because it is the most highlight about intramurals. It is not only all about academics but also for the sports and other extracurriculars.

The Miss Q & A serves to promote ‘equality’ and, at the same time, ‘entertainment’. You could learn lessons from it, and it is more on ‘equality’.”

FASTER, HIGHER, STRONGER Ants. They are small creatures often lifting weights heavier than their thin bodies. Their massive number can eliminate one mammoth into nothing but just bones and odor of death. It is an astounding fact.

But the most amazing fact is that, they are blind. Distinguishing us from our sense of sight, observing them can give us a conclusion that abiding rules is not just a matter of culture, but an instinct itself.

We human beings are not like ants after all. Our perception as a consequence of the culture we live with puts us into the pedestal of control. The apes we have been, is became this human that has dominion over others, even nature itself. We make this world a place where beauty and drama mean as music of being alive.

It starts one day, along with the excitement of college freshmen and old students of this prestigious university. Almost a week-long fight for extracurricular excellence, we forgot the stress of being a student drowned in assignments and projects. We visualize the most challenging competitions, which are the motivation for participating the activities.

Whether trying so hard is a glory or a subject of cynicism, the most meaningful reality beyond it is that, we love to act on things we

love apart from our academic paraphernalia.

The spirit of volunteers, driven by passion to serve is heartwarming. The student government of University Student Council did their best just to make the best scenario possible. Stretchers brought by the student medics are all around just to renew the courage of brave players. Every student leader from different colleges supported their sports participants. The camaraderie portrays a bittersweet enthusiasm of different winners who win and lose. Enthusiasm in the name of their colleges.

Sports portray the justice innate into our reasoning instinct. Sangka Dos Mil Dieciocho proves this claim by the players who gave their part just for the events to keep rolling. Given that it uplifts our spirits as a student of this prestigious institution, we play the fair game just because we know what is right. We play for a goal that is right and because of this, we develop the knowing of being right for playing the game with rules and discipline.

For us journalists who serves to explain what happened, it is our role to tell the student body the contents behind the drama. It may not be a matter of euphemism to justify that how we deliver is bearable to all students who read our posts. There can be misunderstandings given that every eye has different brains accommodating it, but the story remains regardless of the words and responses. The game still goes on as we

have to move forward collaborating for the production of real-life stories in this university.

We just need to know what needs to be done, as a self-proclaimed educated young person in this university.

Sangka Dos Mil Dieciocho may not be desirable to all of us. But the point to all of this lies behind our volunteerism and camaraderie. We are may separated by different colleges and different departments but the location we dwell for a goal is the same. It is the location where we forge our future selves by academic instructions and physical activities. And in terms of academic activities, it gives us the time to show what is behind our academic capabilities. The Sangka every year is our window to enter it.

Opening us the world for higher competitions our games provided.

We are not like ants after all. But the bonds we have with each other proved some degree of similarities. Like ants, we collaborate for a goal that serves our happiness and joy.

Unlike ants, we do it just because we know it is our individual right to excel. It serves our self-gratification. Even though we cannot accept to lose, we can harness it as a fuel to persevere. In the side of sports, music, and literary competition, to win or to fail is the binary that separates those who glorify and mourn. Just like ants, pain is what makes us strong. Pain that dictates the believer to beat the odds. That was all of us during Sangka Dos Mil Dieciocho as we embody the Olympic motto: “Faster, Higher, Stronger�. HAY THE GOLD PANICLES

WE PLAY NOT FOR HIGH GRADES BUT TO FEEL THE CAMARADERIE AND TRIBALISM

Moments are moments and as part of time, can never be repeated. The vital subjective component of which all our leisure is done is just a speck in totality. As a student, we find ourselves engulfing into leisure once a year, and just 4 times for a typical student who has a capability to graduate in 4 years time. This is the days where we can partly forget our academic responsibilities and immerse ourselves to activities that can forge our notoriety in extracurricular aspect. However, the time we can spend enjoying the things we can do as a studying person, is intervened by the context that supposed not to has its own time specially, in terms of time allotted into it.

Every year, we celebrate the Intramural Meet.

Happening every first semester in an academic year, it leaves a scent of excitement to every student who thrives to study in a year. The young minds are motivated to take part in every aspect of it. From sports ranging from athletics to ball games, literary to musical competitions, everyone takes their own part to compete. To mention the rest uninvolved, are the students who take part to witness the grit of the players representing their colleges. The drama is enclosed to an idea of our innate desire, to win a game we love to play.

We study here for a goal that we want to pursue.

Perhaps this idea is not the same to all students, some of us finished what they started even they are confused to finish it no matter what. We love to leave an impression to our undeserving instructors.

Impression we expected to be motivational. But what if the motivation we want to have in order to empower us in our academic responsibilities will trespass even the motivation that empowers our external

grit. Encompassing the activity that is absolutely academically uninvolved.

It is an innate trait to all of us students to play the games we want to win. Whether it is team-based or an individual undertaking, competition becomes the mantra that gives the edge. Even though we do not receive any monetary compensation, the experience itself serves as a capital, enabling us to store it in our deepest memory as a young person.

Whether it is a physically driven game or mentally stimulating game, the areas not involving academic aspect is prioritized.

However, this is not the case to all students during Intramural days.

First case is this Engineering Student. I do not want to tell what his name for authority can become a response. He is just a random student. Just like anyone else who just wants to finish an undergraduate degree and want to pursue a job he deemed as fit with his struggling intellect.

He wants to be an engineer someday. In the other side, he is an athlete. Competitive and notorious in this field of activity, this lad competes in higher competitions which I do not want to specify for it can be suspicious enough to accuse one who is already well-known enough.

It was glorious and soothing in his first day of athletic activity. Then, time played so well. His instructor from a major subject set the examination in the second day. He become worried, afraid on the circumstances of expectation between the college he represented and the examination he supposedly to take. Choice becomes a dilemma just because dealing with this college instructor can be worse specifically if he demand

some sort of excuses that will not after all be granted. Even though he hates it in the first place, he chooses to play and just let the time decide if he did the right thing. This is just one of those cases happening in Intramural days. And the worst thing is, the question regarding if a negotiation will take place after the Intramurals or the hell just comes as a decision from a particular instructor who leave the burden into unsuspecting students.

Looking at the level of exuberance happening in the days of our game, it lifts our spirit. Even though we observed that ticket prices are high and the venue of event is so crowded, we overcome it in the name of enjoyment. We are young enough to do the things that can only happen when we are still studying. The energy is like a juggernaut and the drama is symbiotic. We expect to win because we play the game we love to win in the first place yet, our winning will become challenged by the responsibility we suppose to do after the days of our game.

The instructors teach us the things that will aid us to become better students. A high grade is our desire even though sometimes we only take it for granted. We play not for high grades but to feel the camaraderie and tribalism as a collective particular inside our school. And in one semester time, is an allotted time for everything for instructors and students. It is not just for the instructors alone to decide to themselves the time they want to assert, but they need to consider the fact that they do not own all the days of student life. Some days are for the student to have fun and some days are for the student’s reality that we need to cope. HAY THE GOLD PANICLES

October 16, 2018, Caraga State University beats the drum to officially begin the Sangka Dos Mil Dieceocho, opening doors for recreational sports as organized. But that does not stop there. It is also created for those students who excel on sports activities. A way of fleeing from academic agony and to compete in games, to test their patience and competence and finishing a match where camaraderie and sportsmanship were built up.

There are so many things we can benefit from Intramurals, it allows the student to develop his psychomotor skills, his body’s flexibility, strength, and endurance. It promotes camaraderie, sportsmanship and it patches gaps between students. It mainly focuses on sports which build strong bonds within the involved students.

Furthermore, it implies discipline among the participants, and provides a healthy—though temporary—pastime which is far better than various vices such as drugs, alcoholic drinks,

ONE WILL WIN, ONE WILL LOSE BUT ALL MUST RISE VICTORIOUS and excessive use of electronic devices. It teaches us the value of teamwork and sportsmanship.

But what if instead of building camaraderie and sportsmanship after the patiencetesting games, we ended up grasping for the exact opposite?

That was the case with the recent

intramurals—or maybe even with the intramurals that came before it. Instead of having fun while playing, we instead took things too seriously that we have let the feeling of superiority over the unfortunate players get around our heads. This consequentially turned into roof-high pride which would later convert into arrogance. A byproduct of the irrational reasoning of unkind airheads.

People behave themselves illmannered and barbarous as time passes, but it does not mean we should take it as an acceptable deed—especially in events such as this. If we wander too far away from the main objectives of why we are playing and healthily competing and take into account first our personal interests and unsavory egos, then we are defeating the purpose.

Wrongfully so, players being constantly being impractical and unfair are pretty much observable without obvious display of shame from the culprits. Though mentalities like this may vary in how the coaches’ teachings influence them, it remains true that implementing such is still in our own discretion.

Our sight was blinded by flashing light of being “number one” to the extent that we forgot the true essence of the Intramurals. The essence of building respect and sports ethics between players has faded into unjust oblivion.

We have prioritized more the establishing of ourselves as the best and have forgotten that the game is a two way thing.

With all the learnings they have gained. A good player always plays with moral and dignity. Yet, what we disappointingly have are players who simply loves to dominate and nothing more.

Accepting defeat as well as accepting triumph in any game is a useful requisite that benefits us even beyond the grounds of the campus. Just picture out the immense joy and the unexplainable feeling of equality that will inevitably ooze up if our concern lies with the activities’ vision.

Triumph makes us realize the comforting results of hard works and discipline. Failures and losses makes us realize we can be better than the selves we have been before. We can be better—even best, only if there are a less number of people who flatter themselves by dragging others down.

It was the annual intramurals of the Caraga State University again, and as expected, students were promised with an event worth hyping for. But, did it really live up to the hype? Commencing with a Game of Thrones inspired motif, the occasion lured loads of spectators-- normal-living students, outsiders, and casual and die-hard fans alike.

This was the concern of some of the students; mostly freshmen. Although the ticketpurchasing relied only on the students’ own discretion, that did not invalidate it as something that pleaded formal discussions. We aren’t really living in our country’s better days and money does not

Days before the event kick-off, the University Student Council(USC)-the event’s main organizer-amassed ample numbers of scrutiny from wary students who have put into themselves enough amount of awareness for recent noteworthy changes-- and for their purses and wallets. The joke was: “Holy cheese and crackers, even the intramurals tickets suffered from the surge of inflation rate!”

But I guess jokes become less funny when they are, in a sense, true.

just simply knock on our doors, so the concern was understandable to a certain degree. Still, it was inevitable that some would think that the concern was a mere overreaction and was the least of all the concerns. Some would even yell: “If it pains you, don’t buy them! You are not being forced.”

Well, we could not just let our opinions and right to yearn for better services fade into thin air, could we? Needless to say, we all shared the same crave for a week-long fun-- taking into account that the week before the intramurals, examinations squashed our brains dry and are yet to be squashed more after. We deserved the break.

However, aside from them being not compulsory, the prices were not that merciless. In fact, according to the USC, the prices were a bit lesser than the ones we had the previous year.

They also had a promo that ran from October 1 to 5, further lessening the prices a bit. I’ll say no more, except that not everyone was not inclined toward spending that much even so. So we asked, what made the prices stay that high? The USC has an answer, and whether it will satisfy you or not is up to your own discernment.

INTRAMURALS TICKETS SUFFERED FROM THE SURGE OF INFLATION RATE!

“The main reason is that we didn’t have cash on-hand and enough fund that would have catered for the expenses,” USC senator Argefel Morano said. She further stated that the prices were worth it for they have repaid them with fun programs.

Who would not love that? Knowing that the organizers were concerned enough to take notice of our itch for good to better outcomes, the price seemed justifiable. But, lo, what did we

get? Did we even enjoy the events that we paid for?

Almost, if not, all of these programs tested the students’ grip for patience. Apparently, the coordinators and whoever were involved in organizing, took generous dosages of Filipino-time-inducing pills in full agreement. We witnessed program commencements that did not concur with the allotted times stated on the tickets nor in the schedule of activities. Good thing the performances, performers, and hosts were there to save the nights. A question hangs still: were they all honest mistakes, or just pure delay? This, take note, was not only observable around those margins. Even the attendance system suffered a great deal of it.

For days, queues of hurry-up-it’sscorching faces of students lined waiting for the folks in-charge of the attendance, whom for some reasons, came late most of the time. What’s with the trend?

Well, those are just some of the unpleasantness.

Now then. How did the recently held Sangka Dos Mil Dieciocho stack up against the past intramurals of this university, specifically the night events? Sure, it was not the grandest-- not even close--but the fun was there. It was good but not quite, and sometimes good is enough. The council is commendable for the effort they have put up (considering the shortage in funds) just as much as the students are comprehensible for voicing out their concerns. After all, the purpose of the intramurals is to elevate sportsmanship and camaraderie-- that is to say, we were expected to maintain warmth and geniality amidst conflict. It’s safe to say that the purpose was served. Now, hoping for a better Sangka next year wouldn’t hurt, so go ahead. That’s the least we can do as of now, aside from taking in the bygones. K.CORREA MAKES THE PENALTY KICK: CAA finishes strong in football tourney over CEIT, 1-0 Mc Reagan Gasta Staggering with a late finish, the College of Agriculture and Agri-Industries (CAA) concluded the Sangka Men’s Football as the champions for this year, led by the phenomenal Kyle Correa who established a point against the College of Engineering and Information Technology (CEIT), pinning them in a 1-0 upset, Saturday in the CSU Oval.

Correa who led the offensive charges of CAA’s past games, took his efficiency as an excellent football player as he executed his defense to hand CEIT a lot of trouble in the pitch.

Coach Argen Salvador of CAA commended the efforts of Kyle Correa and his team after the triumph.

“Commendable jud iyang dula,” Coach Salvador talked about Correa’s performance, “and knowing na gikan pajud sila nagduwa, conditioned gapun, meaning highly skilled and consistent jud sila tanan bisan sa kahago,” he added, acknowledging his star player and his team.

After the ‘4-3 CEIT’ win earlier the day, the pitch was inside a defensive lockdown with both teams halting the offense to advance.

CEIT had a grip of the momentum for a short while when Daryll Ancog and Team Captain Kier Empang led the offensive attacks to try to clinch the table-turner in the 2nd half. It didn’t take long until Correa went from defense

to offense and executed his skills to fire up his team, together with Jay Mark Solis commanding the charges to take the game.

Yet, it all boiled down to the last-minute finish with Correa executing an excellent penalty kick after a handball violation of CEIT in the last two minutes of the match.

“Advantageous na nakascore sila sa last minute jud,” Coach Salvador talked about the lastminute play, “kay mahimo man to na turning point nila na lisud na maapsan sa pikas,” he added.

CEIT, who lost to CASNR –now CAA and CFES, still had hopes for a good series for them next year after clinching the silver but doubted the result if the college

would be divided as proposed this semester.

The futsal ball seemed to glitter as player No.21 Liagayan striked a quick straight pass to her teammate, Ann James A. Binayao, which led them to be the futsal champions this year.

The CAA was also the leading team 2-1, for the first game of the twice-to-beat match. The crowd went wild as the breathtaking scenario took place. Loud cheers were heard as each college attempted to score for a goal.

CFES Sentinels CEIT Warriors remain atop of the clinch gold, 3-2 throne, 3-1 Jeremiah Napone

Jeremiah Napone CFES Sentinels retain the title as they once again overpowered the crafty CEIT Warriors by their height and skills, 3-1 (25-23,18-25,2520,25-21), to take the crown in the SANGKA 2018 Men’s Volleyball Finals at CSU Volleyball court on Friday, October 19.

What seems like a David and Goliath battle, the CEIT Warriors with the height disadvantage, took an early lead against the giants of CFES Sentinels courtesy of the errors of the team. However, it is CFES’ Wing spiker Joseph Saldia’s service aces and setter John Christian Reyes’ ball distribution that made the Sentinels’ comeback possible.

The crowd went wild as rallies dominated the second set where both teams play persistent defense and exchanges of canon-like spikers that sparked exuberance to the crowd. But in the end, it is in the latter part of the set that the two dark horses of the Warriors, Melvin Balbarino and Micho Jabinal, took over the set with their wall-destroying spikes that sealed the deal for the Warriors’ second set win.

Similar to the second set, exchanges of spikes and blocks created the long rallies that hyped-up the crowd. Formidable blocks and steep dumps of the CFES’ newbie middle blocker, Christian Ellazo, puts the CEIT Warriors defense on a blender as he shuts down the Warriors’ spikes and made them guess his tricky dumps.

SHS Vikings fell short against powerhouse college CEIT Warriors to claim gold as Jessa Gapor and the Warriors salvage their chance of winning, 3-2 (25-23,22-25,23-25,25,11,13-15), in the SANGKA 2018 Women’s volleyball court on Friday, October 19, 2018.

With their first time playing as a team in the final round, pressure got the most of the SHS Vikings as they gave a hard-fought 5–set match against the CEIT Warriors.

CAS Red Hunters finish victor in Sangka 2018 Baseball Championship John Aissaac Cejuela Without much expectations, the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) Red Hunters fought courageously and settled for a victor twiceto-beat finish against College of Forestry and Environmental Science (CFES) Sentinels, 12-3 in the Sangka 2018 Baseball Championship on Friday, October 19 at CSU Oval.

Marquez led the Hunters with a perfect three bat to mark a 10-3 deficit.

Hunters had their placings early in the first inning as Cillio-Devenancio tandem held home runs to post a 2-0 mark.

Due to the inevitable heat of the sun and the distant lead of Hunters, Mollida together with their Sentinels’ team surrendered to the officiating officials to officially end the game which finished a score of 12-3.

Sentinels’ did not mind the Hunters’ score as Lagatoc-Villabeto home runs count insisted to outstrip the flouting defense of Hunters that marked tactic for their foe to score 2-1, two-point leading against Hunters in the second inning.

As the yells of the watchers trembled the entire field, the Hunters’ uproar were more loud as they yet again took a quick lead on the third inning of the match, 8-2.

Sentinels’ tried to bat in their fourth inning but Mollida hit a foul ball and they have less than two strikes, enabling Hunters to celebrate early in their win.

Hunters continue to maintain their composure with two consecutive home runs by Alan and Rebucas which completed a score of 113.

CFES smashers take lead against CEIT

CFES Sentinels set the CSU Badminton court ablaze as they effortlessly overhauled the CEIT Warriors in the Men’s Badminton Championship Game, held at CSU Gymnasium on Wednesday October 17.

The lethal tandem from Sentinels’ Harry Otacan and Ban Munzon emerged to be the toughest team as they launched tons of skills and effective teamwork enough to overpower the tandem of Dave Bryan Marcojos and Mark Aldrin Alamag of the Warriors.

It was indeed a challenging tournament for both sides. Pressure, action, and intense feelings surrounded them feeding the fervor hearts of the two teams the desire to take the title for their college, but CFES sentinels fought their way to the top.

“Pressure sa mga kauban ug dedication para sa college” they added.

Commendable skills and dedication to their college drove them to win yesterday, ended the game with 5-21 score.

On the Single’s category, a breathtaking game was handed to Sentinel’s Ezra Siaw as he took on Escobido of the Warriors into a head to head match up as they clashed for the Men’s Badminton Championship.

Siaw unleashed his devastating kills as he closed the first set with a remarkable distance, 2115.

Escobido regained his composure down the stretch in the middle of the second set as they set the floor ablaze with a couple of rallies.
