BUSINESS INSIGHTS WHAT’S TRENDING IN

J

anuary 2021 marked the completion of an entire year of catastrophes wreaked by the COVID-19 pandemic. The world changed overnight for the times to come. Now Covid is hitting us back again in 2022 and has come with mixed fortunes for different businesses. It has compelled us to redefine and reimagine ourselves and become more resilient for the future.

PANDEMIC INFLUENCING BUSINESS TRENDS

It was a year of consistent fears and losses. The initial phase of the lockdown was disproportionately exacerbating for the small businesses, 70% of which remained in tatters till August 2020, and around 40% resorted to a similar fate till February 2021. The pandemic crisis caused sharp contractions in the Indian economy and pushed around 7.5 crore Indians into the low-income category (with an income of $2 or less per day) from their earlier economic statuses. The disastrous effects of this crisis have played out differently for each industry and sector. While industries dealing with aviation, tourism, and automobiles feared being written off completely, there were certain businesses that boomed

unnaturally. Cybersecurity mesh, data fabric architecture, autonomic systems, generative AI, and decision intelligence are definitely some of the trends that CEOs should watch out for in 2022, as per the research firm Gartner. It was the business owners who had not incorporated e-commerce within their business model who ended up crashing and burning as the pandemic hit.

To sustain your business in the post covid era, it is important to follow the business trends of 2022, and not risk sinking your business into the abyss.

4 BUSINESS TRENDS TO SWEAR BY IN THE POSTCOVID ERA The Use Of AI And Automation Is Indispensable: Artificial intelligence technology can largely help businesses by reducing operational costs, scaling up revenues, improving customer experience, and bettering the overall customer experience. AI technology reduces operational costs, increases efficiency, grows revenue, and improves the overall customer experience. In order to reap most of the advantages, businesses must focus on making use of the entire range of smart technologies such as natural language processing and machine learning for their products and services.

| Issue 1 | January 2022

With the news of the incoming metaverse technology, this is an era of automatic vehicles, AI cybersecurity, and basically everything related to technology. The creation of an e-commerce website with a chatbox is something really basic that you must incorporate into your business if you must sustain it in 2022. When it comes to businesses whether small or big, it is the early adaptors and visionaries who have a better chance of sustaining for the long term.

Keeping It Authentic: In the digital era of over-information, buyers have become highly vigilant and conscious about their values and belief systems. It is important to remember that they buy from a company that resonates with their values. It becomes vital to work on a brand image that tells the story of your business and expresses the mission and vision of the business. Cryptocurrency Is Vital: We all know how an investment in the Shiba Inu coin ended up making two New York brothers multimillionaires in 2021. It is evident that in 2022, cryptocurrency will easily become the most widely accepted method of payment globally. A lot many businesses have already prioritized the use of cryptocurrency. In all probability, cryptocurrency might end up becoming the future of the world. Businesses need to have a more digital approach to their functioning, especially after the

Covid-19 aftermath. This will surely ensure that your company stays ahead of the pack. In these times, it is very much possible to lose out on sales if you are not adopting cryptocurrency as well as blockchain technology. The two major benefits of cryptocurrency are: a) It creates a more accessible network for money to flow b) It helps in reducing the transaction cost and increasing business reach Need for Sustainability: In the era of sensible consumption, environment-friendly companies are easily given precedence over those which are not. Opting for sustainable practices in your business can prove to work wonders in creating an appealing brand image but also help in scaling up the revenues. In simple words, sustainability means utilizing the present resources in such a manner that it does not end up compromising on the demands of the future. A sustainable brand image gives the business a clear competitive advantage over others by appealing directly to the belief system of the customers. This can also help in getting the business subsidies and incentives. (a) By 2030, Apple is planning to become 100% carbon neutral in terms of its products and supply chain. (b) A study conducted by Nielsen shows that 66% of the customers are ready to pay more out of their pocket if a product boasts to be of a sustainable nature.

(c) The same report claims that 81% of global consumers believe that businesses should work towards creating a more sustainable environment. (d) As per studies conducted by Mckinsey, costs can be reduced substantially by as much as 60% when sustainable energies are incorporated.

LEADING BUSINESS IDEAS FOR 2022 Many of the best small business ideas for 2022 involve an online business model. The new normal must be taken into account when starting off a business in 2022. The way products and services are consumed has changed drastically from the pre-covid era. Beginning with the restaurant or retail businesses might have been a good idea earlier but must be given a second thought before we see how the next year plays out. If you are thinking of starting a business in 2022, it is critical to take the new normal into account. It is the ideal time to steer from traditional businesses and move into those which are highly automated. Online Reseller Business: For those who understand clothing and fashion, beginning with an online reseller business is a great idea. One could begin by selling old or unwanted items on an online selling website and then eventually expanding to one’s own retail business.

Online Teaching: This could be a great market for entrepreneurs to tap into. Regardless of one’s location and with minimum facilities, it is possible to share one’s knowledge with students and turn it into a successful venture. Online Book-keeping: Not just education but bookkeeping services can also be performed online. This business idea would be ideal for an accountant or a bookkeeper. Medical Courier Service: With the resources of a good time management skillset and reliable vehicle services, a medical courier service could be taken up as a business venture. The transportation would be accountable for distributing medical items such as prescription drugs, lab specimens, equipment, etc. Providing Translation Services: This is an attractive option for multilingual speakers. A business venture could be created out of offering services such as translation of documents, translation of website information, etc. Digital Marketing: Digital Marketing services are always in demand as the importance of conducting one’s business over the internet is becoming clearer with each passing day. Most mid-sized and small companies prefer to outsource their digital marketing services. With chops in content marketing, SEO, social media management, and web development, one could seize a comfortable work-fromhome business opportunity. Business trends have been changing exponentially with the incoming of digitalization and globalization in the business world. The post covid era has almost succeeded in cutting off the traditional ways of conducting a business. The future is going to be heavily technology-based and it’s important to adapt to the winds of change so as to not lag behind.

FINANCE

“In this world, nothing is certain but death and taxes.”

B

BENJAMIN FRANKLIN

usiness taxes are the dues that businesses are liable to pay as a quintessential part of their business operations. It is a tax levied on the net income or profit that a company makes. Whether you’re a sole proprietor, a partner, business, or a limited liability corporation, your business

is accountable for adhering to certain tax regulations. This tax is imposed at a specific rate as per the Income Tax Act of 1961.

BASIC CATEGORISATION OF THE INDIAN TAXATION SYSTEM The Indian Taxation System is broadly divided into two categories- Direct Taxes & Indirect Taxes.

The former is the kind of tax that is paid directly to the government by an organized body or a sole proprietor in the form of land tax, income tax, or poll tax. Direct taxes are decided and controlled by The Central Board Of Direct Taxes (CBDT) which was created as a result of the Central Board Of Revenue’s Act Of 1924. These are further divided into two more categories- a) Income Tax b) Corporate Tax. A business tax slab decides the amount of tax to be charged from an organization. Indirect Taxes, on the other hand, are the kind of taxes that are paid indirectly to the government. An example could be the excise tax one pays on the purchase of products like alcohol and cigarettes.

Income Taxes: Debarring the businesses in partnerships, Income Taxes are applicable to all other kinds of business structures. Yearly income tax returns are filed on the basis of a business’s taxation slab limit. The taxation is directly proportional to the company’s annual income. The tax amount is also based on the age group or the income of a person. Estimated Taxes: These are the kind of taxes that are paid in installments. In the case where an organization does not have enough taxes on hold, it can choose to pay it throughout the year in the form of regular installments. Excise Taxes: These are the taxes that need to be paid by a company if they engage in the manufacturing of items such as gasoline, tobacco, alcohol, etc. Environmental taxes,

26 | The Global Hues | Vol. 2

| Issue 1 | January 2022

fuel taxes, transportation taxes, manufacturing taxes, and taxes on the retail are included in this. Self-Employment Tax: They consist of Medical care and social security taxes. It needs to be paid yearly by those who are self-employed. Employment Taxes: Any business that has hired employees must pay employment taxes which fall into many categories, including social security taxes, medicare taxes, federal income taxes, federal unemployment taxes, etc.

WHAT’S YOUR CORPORATE ENTITY? Any corporate entity can be understood as an artificial person who is liable to enjoy certain duties and rights. This entity holds an identity separate from the identity of its

shareholders. Following are the two major categories of corporations in India Domestic CorporationsAny company which has been formed in India and has registered itself under India’s Companies Act, 2013 is considered to be a domestic corporation. In accordance with the business taxation system, any domestic business with an income of 250 crores is supposed to pay 25% of the government’s rate of tax. If the income turns out to be more than 250 crores, the company is liable to pay 30%. If by any chance the company has an offshoot branch located overseas, similar rates would be charged for them. Foreign Corporations- The defining characteristic of a foreign corporation is that it carries out its business

The Global Hues | Vol. 2 | Issue 1 | | January 2022

| 27

FINANCE at a place different from where the corporation was originally registered. As per the company’s activities, the overseas state’s laws might require the owners to register the business in the form of a foreign corporation and pay state taxes. The business taxation procedure of overseas corporations depends upon the mutual agreement of tax between the originating company and India. The tax rate for the technical services and fees received by a foreign business from an Indian Corporation is 50%. Apart from this, the tax rate for other services is 50%.

FOLLOWING CORPORATIONS LIABLE TO PAY TAXES Any corporation established in India. Any corporation acquiring revenue in India and doing business on those earned incomes. Those foreign enterprises which are established permanently in India. Those corporations which identify as ‘Indian Resident’ corporations for the purpose of tax payment. Companies both private and public which have been registered under the companies act of 1956. The rate of corporate tax differs for domestic and foreign corporations. Moreover, they differ on the basis of the type of the corporate entity and its turnover.

Proper management of accounts: Maintaining a black and white record of all the transactions carried out by the company is of primary importance to its growth. Financial statements act as proofs to support one’s claims in the annual financial statement of the company. It also works as evidence in case an argument escalates over the financial matters of the company. An account keeps a record of the salaries being given out to each employee and also the payments made to various raw material providers. Prompt filing of ITR: The deadlines for filling out the Income Tax Returns must be followed by all companies. Failing to do so can make them liable to pay 1% interest on their ITR per month until they end up filing it. Late fines are also levied. Audits: Periodic audits are mandatory for companies whose net revenue exceeds Rs. 40 lakh per financial year. This is in accordance with the LLP Act.

BUSINESS TAXES FOR FOREIGN CORPORATIONSWhen it comes to foreign corporations, the rate of taxes being levied depends entirely on the agreement made between the Indian and the foreign corporations.

START-UP ESSENTIALS

Following are a couple of things to be kept in mind by start-up ventures-

28 | The Global Hues | Vol. 2

| Issue 1 | January 2022

Submitting Roc (Registrar Of Companies): Timely submission of Roc to the Ministry of Corporate Affairs is important. Failing to do so can even lead to its shut down.

CORPORATE TAX REBATES Following are the provisions for tax concessions and deductions: Interest Income is liable to be reduced in specific cases. Capital gains of a business entity are not taxable. Dividends are applicable for tax rebates under certain terms and conditions. The business has the power to carry the losses received in the business for an 8-year maximum. If a corporation gets new infrastructure or sources of power, then they are subjected to certain deductions. In specific cases of exports and new ventures of a corporation, deductions are allowed.

BENEFITS OF BUSINESS TAX PLANNING

Tax planning is of utmost importance for businesses to increase their profits and reduce the burden of taxes. Business tax planning involves the creation of certain strategies that help one’s company achieve this. Professionals who are well versed with the rules and regulations of tax payments are hired for this work. This kind of planning plays a major role in reducing financial risk as much as possible. It is necessary here to keep in mind that business tax planning and evasion of taxes are two entirely different areas. Tax evasion is a punishable offense by law. Whereas, tax planning is a strategy that helps in ascertaining payable taxes in such a way that the businesses end up making higher profits.

UNDERSTANDING DIVIDEND DISTRIBUTION TAX

DDT, which is the Dividend Distribution Tax refers to the dispensation of profits to shareholders of a company. It is levied on the profits distributed by this process. On the other hand, Corporation Tax differs in the sense that it is calculated over the gross profit of a company excluding the expenses incurred by them. Since this tax is levied on the dividends offered to the shareholders, a greater number of shareholders would lead to a greater rate of tax payment.

TO SUMMARIZE

In the words of Benjamin Franklin, “In this world nothing is certain but death and taxes”. Unfortunately, we can’t do much about the death portion of it but when it comes to taxes, it is a smart move to make use of all available resources to reduce your corporation’s tax liabilities. An understanding of the types of businesses and taxes definitely helps in making management more efficient.

Currently, the dividend distribution tax which has to be payable at dividends offered to a company’s shareholders is 15% of the net amount distributed as a dividend. This implies that the tax is levied effectively at a rate of 17.65%.

feel responsible for society and are willing to change themselves for the betterment of their customers. It makes the industry seem something bigger than just a business and people feel connected towards it. MEET RETAILERS REQUIREMENTS Retailers often demand to eliminate plastic and include recyclable products from industries. So companies who wish to sell to retailers are obliged to obtain sustainable packaging. LESS CARBON FOOTPRINT The number of carbon compounds emitted due to the consumption of fossil fuels in your company is called carbon footprint. Sustainable packaging made of recyclable material reduces the carbon footprint of industry thus reducing the negative impact on the environment.

SUSTAINABLE PACKAGING

P

THE ALARMING NEED OF TOMORROW

lastics and plastic packaging have been a major reason behind environmental pollution for the past century. But nowadays corporate sectors are waking up to this problem and are now adopting an alternate approach towards packaging which contains sustainable elements.

WHAT IS SUSTAINABLE PACKAGING?

There has been a shift in businesses’ attitudes regarding the environment over the last

30 | The Global Hues | Vol. 2

few years. This shift could be considered a positive one as the well-being of future generations depends heavily on how businesses and individuals act today to protect and preserve the earth’s natural resources and environment which are currently deploying. There is a specific term that categorizes these industries, Sustainable industry. A sustainable industry is an industry that is in alignment with its environment. It takes care of the wider world including its customers, suppliers, and staff. They care about the future along with providing the necessities of

| Issue 1 | January 2022

today. The goods that these industries manufacture are supplied in sustainable packaging made of materials that are fully recyclable.

BENEFITS OF SUSTAINABLE PACKAGING TO THE INDUSTRY

The real question is why are these industries moving towards sustainable packaging and what are the major benefits. REFLECTS SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY When a big brand shifts towards ways that save nature and the environment it shows that they

VERSATILITY Sustainable packaging can be reused and repurposed in industries. These packages are very versatile and can be used to pack different kinds of things at the same time thus reducing the unnecessary costs of additional packages. IMPROVES IMAGE Modern customers are well informed about the challenges faced by the environment and environmentally conscious brands catch the shoppers’ eyes, gaining their trust. So obtaining sustainable packaging gains millennials as customers and increases the sales of the company.

WHY IS IT THE ALARMING NEED OF TOMORROW?

Widespread use of single-use packaging has put a heavy burden on the environment and is leading to two prominent issues: Recyclability of Packaging: Brands are producing large amounts of packaging which cannot be recycled in existing recycling systems. This especially happens in the case of multi-layered plastic (MLP) packaging. MLP is any material used for packaging and having

at least one layer of plastic as the main ingredient in combination with other material layers like polymeric materials, paper, aluminum foil, etc. Packaging Leakage: The rate of recycling is relatively low for plastic packaging. Only a small percentage of all plastic waste is re-processed to make new products. Most of the plastic waste goes into landfills and incineration, leading to materials getting lost forever as a resource, despite plastic’s potential for recycling.

THE NEW WAVE OF SUSTAINABLE PACKAGING Whether it’s the fashion industry or food businesses, companies have taken on the much-needed responsibility of reducing their carbon footprint, toxins, and plastics and have changed their packaging game by opting for more sustainable alternatives.

Amazon collaborated with Tide to introduce sustainable packaging that led to 60% less usage of plastic for the brand.

Kentucky Fried Chicken popularly known as KFC and Frito Lay are major names of the food industry that are on their way to becoming completely waste-free, ensuring paperbased packaging and cutlery at their outlet, and reusing plastic-based packaging. Calvin Klien is using up to 70% eco-friendly packaging and they are aiming to become a zero-waste company by 2030. Sustainability helps in the future. And small initiatives like the elimination of single-use packaging will help in keeping water bodies free of microplastics which will further lead to the protection of sea life. Sustainable packaging is healthy for human life as it eliminates the toxins entering the body released in food and water from the plastic. The shift to sustainability can be done by adopting eco-friendly solutions, for example, paper, metal, and glass. More and more companies are stepping forward to invest a gargantuan amount of money in research and development to facilitate change in the environment.

LEGO is another brand that has decided to shift towards sustainability as they have been using recyclable paper and cardboard for their packaging. The Global Hues | Vol. 2 | Issue 1 | | January 2022

SIMULATIONS CRAFTING 360 DEGREE COMMUNICATION SOLUTIONS FOR DIVERSE BRANDS

We have an unwavering commitment to delivering quality with assured, honest efforts every single time and this is a crucial differentiator between us and other agencies.”

about the company. Here are some edited excerpts from the interview.

Please Explain In Brief About Yourself And Your Company? How Do You Correlate With Your Company? I have been a part of the communications industry for close to three decades now. Simulations Public Affairs Management Services was founded by me at the turn of the century, in the year 2000, after having worked with leading media houses such as BCCL (The Times of India Group), Living Media (India Today Group), and corporates like Torrent Pharma, and Vadilal Foods. As much as I can recollect, Simulations PR was the first dedicated Public Relations Consultancy firm from Ahmedabad, and I am proud to say that we introduced PR as a professional discipline field in Ahmedabad, and by extension in Gujarat.

decades of experience in strategic communications across different mediums, Simulations is operating in Pan-India. We interacted with Shailesh Goyal, the Founder & Director of the company to gain more insights

| Issue 1 | January 2022

Elaborate On The Offerings Of Your Company. What Makes Its Services Worth The Investment? Over the years, our core offering has been PR and Media Management Consultancy. But we believe in keeping pace with the times and have expanded our services in tune with the market requirements. Our bouquet of services now includes Digital Media, Content Development, Creative Design & Audio-Visual Production Services, and Corporate Events

Management & Promotion among others. Our commitment to delivering satisfaction by taking a realistic approach and providing solutions to meet the client’s objectives in the given budget every single time, maybe the reason for whatever small success we have achieved. This is something our clients vouch for.

Elaborate How The Company Came Into Being, Its Journey, And Where It Stands Today. Simulations began its journey around the year 2000 with the idea of providing 360-degree communications solutions. Unfortunately, the very next year, a massive tragedy of destructive earthquake happened in Gujarat, and while we were trying to recover, communal riots followed putting the businesses at standstill. But as they say, opportunities exist in adversities, the situation also gave us avenues to associate with, plan and execute public relations and image-building programs of some large trade bodies, and multinational corporations. Later, as we decided to pursue work mainly in the discipline of PR & Media Consultancy, Simulations became the first PR-focussed company in Ahmedabad at that time. There were no other regional players in PR. National advertising agencies used to double up as PR firms by providing some basic PR services, mostly to the IPO clients. I felt there was a definite market gap and an opportunity that led me to establish Simulations PR. In over 20+ years’ time, we have the satisfaction of having played a small role as a catalyst in the business and industry’s growth in Gujarat.

What Makes Your Company Stand Out From Competitors? We offer a complete bouquet of PR, Content, and Creative Communications Support Services, which few non-national agencies offer. We have also expanded into a host of digital services, which few agencies have a presence in.

We have an unwavering commitment to delivering with honest efforts every single time, and this, I believe is a crucial differentiator between us and others.

Shed Light On The Clientele Of Your Firm. How Do You Develop Strong & Positive Client Relationships? We have clients from across the spectrum, including Healthcare, Hospitality, Education, FMCG, Steel, IT & Technology, Pharma, Financial Services, Sports, Real Estate, Infrastructure, Agriculture & Dairy Cooperatives, and much more. Many of these clients have entrusted Simulations as their PR consultants for several years together, on account of its strong commitment to delivering consistent, useful work.

What Is The Mission And Vision Of Your Company? Our mission and vision are to remain a creative thought leader in strategic communications and to deliver quality and excellence consistently in whatever we do. We want to continue to build on our existing strengths and also expand in newer areas that will allow us to further complement our existing services.

How Important Are Teamwork Skills For Your Company? How Do You Improve Employee Engagement And Bring Your Team Closer Together? Teamwork is the key to success in all fields, but even more so in a creative field like ours where a lot of ideation is required. We engage in multiple activities such as team lunches, games, festival get-togethers, and other activities regularly to improve employee engagement. We are blessed to have a very close-knit team comprising dedicated individuals, each of whom excels in his/her area of work.

What Is The Biggest Challenge Faced By Your Company And How Did You Overcome It In Order To Succeed? The biggest challenge was survival during the Covid-19 pandemic, especially in the early days in 2020. There was so much uncertainty, and no one knew when the situation would return to normal. Clients were uneasy, and with business taking a hit, everyone was looking at ways to lower costs. We managed to sail through the period by rationalizing costs and looking at alternate avenues to generate revenue.

In Your Opinion, What Defines Success? What Is Your Secret To Success? For me, success means happy team, happy clients, happy people around us, and the respect that we have earned from each one of these - even from the competition. We have always worked ethically and transparently, and this is a quality that has been appreciated most.

Mention The Awards And Milestones Received By Your Company So Far. As I have said earlier, Simulations’ work has been consistently recognized as the leading regional PR consultancy in the country beyond metros, over the years by the professional associations, Sabre Awards, IPRCC, PRSI, etc. Besides, I have featured among the most influential professionals in the PR and communication industry over the years. Recently, I was privileged to be in the ‘Top 100 Influential Game Changers List 2021’ in PR and Corporate Communications by exchange4media. This was the third consecutive year I found a place among stalwarts and giants of the PR and Communication industry. Earlier, I was featured in Social Media Influencers Listing Engine (SMILE) 2021 in the specialist category among PR and Corp Comm professionals by Reputation Today.

digital consumers favor learning about a product or service through a video. PR professionals must groom their outreach strategy in a way that it’s using the format that customers prefer such as Instagram Stories, Twitter, YouTube advertisements, etc.

TAKING A STANCE

he most effective way to build on a marketing strategy and create a solid online reputation for a brand is through Public Relations. All successful companies spend a considerable amount of resources to stay on top of their PR strategies so as to reap better results in terms of ROI. In order to create an impressive brand reputation, it’s incumbent that the right messages are being sent to the right places and the right people. PR agencies help their clients achieve this within their industries. An efficient PR strategy is supremely essential as it can help a company overcome any obstacle and transform the future and possibility of its business. 2021 has been a year full of controversies for various brands. Many were made victims of boycotting and demonization through social media campaigns on Facebook, Twitter, etc. In the digital age, a single tweet against a brand is powerful enough to snowball into a boycott trend. PR has gone through paradigm shifts with the incoming changes of the digital age and the drastic changes in the practices of workplace settings, travel opportunities, and day-to-day activities of people after the covid outbreak. Digital PR has taken precedence. In order to accommodate for

40 | The Global Hues | Vol. 2

lockdowns, Covid-19 outbreaks, and social distancing, many businesses had to establish absolutely new working environments. As we head into 2022, we must know what 2022 might have for us in store.

IMPACT OF THE PANDEMIC ON PUBLIC RELATIONS PRACTICES

Creatively working on building relationships is one of the most unique features of a PR firm. However, it has been challenging to do that virtually in a digital environment. PR professionals are supposed to be constantly building relationships with the media and since meeting in person is no longer an option, they have had to look for digital ways of doing it. Earlier people used the medium of radio, newspapers, and tablets to catch up on news on their commute to work but that has changed now. More and more people are now following work-from-home practices, forcing PR professionals to re-work their strategies to understand the end customer and craft its messaging in the format being used by the customer.

MANOEUVERING ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE IN PUBLIC RELATIONS

Given the extensive amounts of information PR firms need to sort through, these firms could really benefit a lot with the use of

| Issue 1 | January 2022

Artificial Intelligence. The prime need for any PR firm is to be aware of the latest trends and news. AI ensures that this information is not getting missed or hindered by irrelevant information. By programming the bot in such a way that it searches out specific words or phrases, PR firms should be able to search through all the data present across all digital platforms to pull out any content required for their clients. Client competitors and media coverage can be easily monitored using AI. AI bots can be made use of to track media impressions for a PR firm’s clients as well as the clients’ competitors.

PR TRENDS TO LOOK OUT FOR IN 2022 GREEN BRANDING Globally consumers look for an ethical and valued experience from their brands. Statistics show that customers like to buy from a brand that they resonate with and share their beliefs and values with. In 2022, adopting a sustainable branding strategy is of utmost importance. Reportedly, around 36% of PR experts claim that adopting a sustainable branding strategy is a great way of increasing their sales. Around 20% of the corporations have already been forced to incorporate sustainability in their campaigns in order to sustain a climate-focused audience.

THE WORLD CUP 2022 With the World cup inching closer, Football is definitely going to be one of the most popular campaign trends in 2022. A teaser of 2021 Euros has already been used up in many Christmas advertising campaigns. Sports, in general, is predicted to be a dominating trend in 2022. AN OUTBOUND PR STRATEGY With e-commerce going forward at a high-speed pace, it is predicted that in 2022 the competition between brands is going to get harder. An outbound PR strategy could help achieve success in such a competition. 2022 is going to be all about improving business awareness in the online sphere through improving SEO, increasing content outreach through in-content backlinks and guest posting. AMPLIFIED ADVERTISING This year will demand PR agencies with a large budget to get immersive with their PR strategies. This is the year to ponder about immersive forms of business promotion as the potential of immersive tech is ever-increasing with the potential of social media expanding exponentially. NEWSJACKING When a brand is aligned with a current event to generate enough

media attention and boost the brand’s exposure, it is known as Newsjacking. It is perhaps the most popular trend of 2022. The online push owing to the pandemic has definitely enhanced the capabilities of newsjacking. It’s always advisable to keep an eye on trending topics to get humorous and creative. It’s vital to keep on top of the trending hashtags of Twitter 2022. A quick and cost-efficient way to go viral online would be through making use of trending stories, increasing brand awareness & engagement, etc. FOCUSING ON THE GEN-Z Around 98% of the Gen-Z population is known to own cell phones. Gen-Z is almost about to become the consumers of the next generation. 2022 is the time to focus the PR efforts in a direction relevant to this audience. SIGNIFICANCE OF LIVE VIDEO PR There is a lot of popularity associated with the trend of live video. This is another trend to look out for this year. Since the year 2016, the number of people who make use of ‘live video’ has doubled. ‘Live video’ has become one of the most popular forms of PR success and brand promotion this year. Research says that around 70% of

Many brands in the year 2020 were put on trial for lacking inclusion and diversity programs, having dated policies, and non-existent positions on social issues. Last year, companies were found revamping their DE&I programs, updating their policies, and taking public stances on issues of social importance. According to what’s trending, a brand’s mission-based efforts will be communicated through PR messaging in 2022. Moreover, companies will need to prove to their customers that they are abiding by the changes they promised to make in 2021. PR efforts will be chiefly engrossed with consistent social awareness and philanthropic engagement. CREATING AN INCLUSIVE BRAND IMAGE In recent times, the wave of employee movement has been towards workplaces that offer inclusion and diversity to their employees in terms of race, physical abilities, sexuality, etc. PR firms must understand the wave and emphasize the client’s brand in a preferable light to attract prospective employees.

IN CONCLUSION

After 2020’s massive shake-up, followed by a chaotic 2021 and a still-unpredictable 2022, PR firms across all industries have had to adapt and evolve to the new environment to get their client brands highlighted. Combining that with the global threats of fake news and misinformation, most PR firms across the globe have had to redesign their traditional approaches to creating, promoting, and sustaining brand images.
