Dedicating Life To The Social Upliftment Of Others

by Shraddha Soparkar

I

have always believed that if you are privileged enough it is not just your responsibility but your duty to help the less privileged ones in any way you can. Having been born in a well-to-do business family, the importance of giving and serving society was imbibed in me from a very young age. I was taught to help others and find happiness in doing so. The religious texts that I read in those days also taught me that there is no greater happiness than helping others and that it is only by doing good to others that one does good to oneself. After completing my studies, I set up my own business and continued giving back to society as and when I could. This was something that gave me a lot of joy. Still, I had never thought that I would one day establish an NGO. It was the birth of my daughter Shruti that changed my life and my whole outlook towards life for good. She had a shunt in the brain and underwent four brain surgeries by the time she was just four months old. I had to take Shruti to various doctors in therapy centres. I realised that having a special kid is a huge trauma for any parent, but the situation is even more challenging when one is not financially strong. The pain and struggle the less privileged children and families would have to face shocked me. What moved me, in particular, was the inaccessibility and unavailability of quality care such as prosthetics and orthotics devices, regular therapies, surgeries, etc. for people with disabilities. I realised that while my own child had access to the best quality medical care, there were many other children out there whose families could not provide them with the medical care or facilities because of financial constraints. It was then that from being an entrepreneur, I became a philanthropist

22 | The Global Hues | Vol. 2

| Special Issue | May 2022

and a social worker. Initially, I started supporting needy people I came across during visits to therapy centres with Shruti. I had helped 10 people, but I realised that there are many more people out there who need similar help. I firmly believe that to fully achieve universal health coverage in our country, people who are fortunate enough need to come forward and do their bit. And it was this belief that led me to establish Madhuram Charitable Trust in 2019. The trust was formed with an aim to create an impact in the lives of those who have not been fortunate when it comes to living a healthy and comfortable life. The trust was named after my grandfather Shri Madhusudan Das Malpani, a social worker who dedicated his life to uplifting the marginalised citizens by providing them with the best healthcare facilities. The trust’s vision is to reduce the disparity between the rich and the poor as far as access to health services and medical care is concerned and to foster an environment that is conducive to their growth. I feel extremely proud that in less than three years, Madhuram Charitable Trust has been able to help close to 1,000 people. This is despite the massive disruption caused by the Covid-19 pandemic for several months when we were forced to stop our activities due to safety concerns. The trust has been able to improve the lives of 800 children with special needs and their families through support in availing various medical treatments. This includes financial assistance for corrective surgeries, botox surgeries, various therapies like physiotherapy, occupational therapy, and assistive aids for mobility, speech and vision, therapies for autistic kids, and children having down syndrome, among others. Along with financial aid for therapies, the trust also counsels parents of specially-abled in an effort to keep them motivated. Our biggest and most ambitious project yet is the Stepathon project, under which we are providing prosthetic legs/artificial limbs to amputees. So far, we have been able to provide German-made prosthetic legs/artificial limbs to 96 beneficiaries. Each of these legs costs Rs. 1 lakh to Rs. 2.5 lakh. The initiative has changed the lives of these beneficiaries forever by helping them become independent in more ways than one. We are also ensuring the beneficiaries get back on their feet by providing them with employment opportunities and helping them become financially independent. Many of the beneficiaries have been able to go back to their occupation and earn their livelihoods, becoming atmanirbhar in the true sense. The smiles on their faces have been a huge inspiration for us and we are aiming to touch 400 beneficiaries under the Stepathon project this year. With God’s grace, I am confident we will be able to achieve this and more. Another big achievement of ours, one that I am proud of, is that one of the beneficiaries is going to take part in the Para Olympics this year with the trust’s support.

Another project that I am working on at present is an aqua therapy centre for special children. It will be the first of its kind in Ahmedabad and Gujarat. The reason is that by engaging in specific well-directed water activities, children can gauge their own body boundaries much better. They can regulate the force that the body exerts when performing tasks or playing and this helps to improve posture, balance, and coordination. Such private facilities are prohibitively expensive. We aim to give the therapies free of cost to the financially marginalised at our centre. I am already in advanced talks with local authorities, who are very supportive of such a centre. I am confident the centre will be a reality soon. I feel fortunate to have been able to make a difference in the lives of special children and people with disabilities. However, I also realise that there is much more that needs to be done to create a meaningful impact. I am happy to share that while we have focused on Gujarat so far, we are working on plans to go to other states. Madhuram Charitable Trust will start its work in the Delhi-NCR region next year. We gradually hope to expand to other states too. However, I am very clear that I want to do quality work. Even if I can help just one beneficiary, I will do so in the best possible way, rather than helping ten people but with little actual difference. I am a firm believer in Swami Vivekananda’s teachings and will end this article with a famous quote by him. Take up one idea. Make that one idea your life - think of it, dream of it, and live on that idea. Let the brain, muscles, nerves, every part of your body, be full of that idea, and just leave every other idea alone. This is the way to success - Swami Vivekananda

REPO RATE A HIKE IN

BY RBI AFTER FOUR YEARS: WHAT IT MEANS FOR THE INDIAN ECONOMY?

O

n May 4, 2022, the Reserve Bank of India hiked its benchmark repo rate by 40 bps in an unscheduled policy review with the objective of controlling inflation. The RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das while announcing the decision said that the global economic recovery was losing momentum and geopolitical tension has been pushing inflation up. The Monetary Policy Committee of RBI voted unanimously to increase the repo rate (a rate at which the central bank of a country gives loans to commercial banks against securities) by 40 bps to 4.4 per cent with immediate effect. The committee also decided to continue with an accommodative monetary policy stance. The repo rate has been hiked for the first time in four years. The last increase

The Central Bank has also announced a 50 basis point increase in the cash reserve ratio- the percentage of cash required to be kept in reserves as against the bank’s total deposits - in a bid to tighten the liquidity. An increase in the cash reserve ratio will suck out excess liquidity from the market.

The repo rate and inflation have an inverse relationship. If the repo rate increases, inflation reduces and if the rate lowers, the inflation increases.

Now, let’s understand what is a repo rate and what has led to an increase in the repo rate.

WHAT IS THE REPO RATE?

In simple terms, the repo rate refers to a rate at which a nation’s central bank (Reserve Bank of India in India) lends money to commercial banks in case of any shortfall of funds. Repo Rate is subject to changes as per the policies of RBI. It is an important tool used by the central bank to control the inflation

| Special Issue | May 2022

As per the statement by RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das, the repo rate has been increased due to a number of reasons: 

Rising Inflation

High crude Oil Prices

Geopolitical Tensions

Shortage of Commodities at the global level

“The decision today to raise repo rate may be seen as a reversal of rate action of May 2020. Last month, we had set out a stance of withdrawal of accommodation. Today’s action needs to be seen in line with that action,” said the Governor, according to NDTV.

CONSEQUENCES OF HIKE IN REPO RATE?

RBI’s strategic move of increasing the repo rate will push banks and non-banking financial institutions (NBFCs) to hike lending and deposit rates. This will lead to an increase in the interest rates that the banks charge for loans.

the inflation, liquidity and money supply in the market. Any change in repo rate directly affects the cost of borrowing by banks. If the economy witnesses a rise in inflation, RBI increases the repo rate to control it. An increase in the repo rate leads to an increase in the cost of borrowing for businesses, which results in lowering the investment and cash flow in the market.

diesel from March 22. Furthermore, the prices of domestic cooking gas have also witnessed a considerable hike. In the past few months, prices of almost every essential commodity have seen a hike as the companies are passing on higher prices to consumers as they deal with high input costs.

The ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine has adversely affected the market supply chain, leading to an increase in the price of crude oil and other important commodities. The war has affected all economies of the world.

In India, inflation has emerged as a major concern over the last few months. Shaktikanta Das made an assuring statement while announcing the decision of increase in repo rate, he said “We, in the RBI, remain steadfast in our commitment to contain inflation and support growth. Inflation must be tamed in order to keep the Indian economy resolute on its course to sustained and inclusive growth. The biggest contribution to overall macroeconomic and financial stability as well as sustainable growth would come from our effort to maintain price stability.”

Crude oil prices had mostly been on the rise in March 2022, after Russia started invading Ukraine on February 24. The Indian oil companies had no other option but to pass on the high import cost of global crude oil prices by hiking the prices of domestic petrol and

RBI Governor, Shaktikanta Das indicates another hike in the Repo Rate in the month of June. The economy can expect an increase in Repo Rate to 5.15%. This was the level of repo rate before the covid pandemic. This means that interest on loans and EMI will go up.

In case of a liquidity crunch in the economy, the Central Bank reduces the repo rate which leads to a reduction in the cost of borrowings and therefore increases the cash flow in the economy.

WHAT HAS LED TO THE PRICE RISE IN INDIA?

Any change in the repo rate majorly affects the real estate market, as there is a direct link between the repo rate and the home loan rate. As the repo rate has increased, the bank will increase interest rates on loans. That is why home loans and auto loans are set to become costlier. However, an immediate increase in home loan rates is not expected by commercial banks. So, this makes a good time for homebuyers to buy their dream home now. With home prices expected to rise in the near future, it is the perfect time for homebuyers to take advantage of the current low home loan rates before the banks decide to change the interest rates.

THE EFFECT OF REPO RATE ON THE INDIAN ECONOMY Repo Rate is an effective tool used by the central bank to control and monitor

RISK

AWARENESS IN MUTUAL FUND COMPANIES

R OBJECTIVE

With the overall objective of management of key risks involved in mutual fund operation, the revised RMF shall provide a set of principles or standards, which inter alia comprise the

32 | The Global Hues | Vol. 2

| Special Issue | May 2022

ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Risk Management shall be an independent and specific function of the AMC. There should be at least one CXO level officer identified to be responsible for the risk management of specific functions of the AMC/Mutual Fund. For instance, there should be dedicated risk officers for various key risks such as Investment Risk (by Chief Investment Officer), Compliance Risk (by Chief Compliance Officer), Operational Risk (by Chief Operating Officer), etc. However, for the overall risk management of the mutual fund, along with the management, both board of AMC and trustees should also be responsible. For this purpose, both the AMC and the trustees should compulsorily have separate Risk Management Committees (RMCs).

CHALLENGES

While the guidelines of RMF are exhaustive and detailed, the AMCs are likely to face some challenges, particularly in the short term. Some of these are:  OPERATING COST The compliance cost and expenses for putting in place the required risk management processes, risk-resilient infrastructure, hiring of professionals, training etc. will increase operating cost for AMCs. The small-sized AMCs may feel the pinch more.

 NEED FOR INTENSIVE TRAINING NEEDS There is an immediate need for AMCs to impart training not only to employees but also to distributors and service providers to build a risk-sensitive ecosystem. Even AMC / Trustee Board members need to be alive, updated and upskilled on RMF related issues.

WAY FORWARD

SEBI’s RMF enables the MF industry to address risk professionally, comprehensively, and competently while carrying out its day-to-day business. If implemented effectively and wholeheartedly, this would make the AMCs not only agile, strong, and resilient but also help win confidence and trust of investors. Yet, for an effective implementation of RMF, AMCs will need a major shift in mindset. Unless risk-awareness and risk-identification are mainstreamed across departments, keeping a single and integrated view on risk, instead of working in silos, any framework or tools may not give desired result. A collaborative effort of AMCs, the Boards, and AMFI would be critical to truly foster and deepen a risk-conscious culture in the mutual fund business.

The writer is on the Board of a Mutual Fund Trustee Company. The views are personal.

 ABSENCE OF RISK MANAGEMENT TOOLS There is often a general indifference or unpreparedness with respect to matters of risk. MFs are no exception. Now that RMF mandates the use of risk management tools like scenario analysis, stress testing etc. for risk analysis, quantification and monitoring, AMCs will need to quickly invest in capacity building and embrace appropriate statistical tools, models, and best practices.

by Ram Krishna Sinha

ecognizing the fact that there have been significant developments in the MF industry in product innovation, investment in newer asset classes, distribution landscape, technological evolution, investor penetration and awareness, increase in risk elements, etc, SEBI has comprehensively reviewed its extant framework for risk management. In September 2021, it came out with a landmark circular on Risk Management Framework (RMF) to foster a risk-conscious culture in Mutual Funds (MFs). The Framework has now been made effective from April 1, 2022.

leading industry practices that can be considered for implementation by the AMCs, to the extent relevant to them.

policies, procedures, risk of management functions and roles & responsibilities of the management, the Board of AMC, and the Board of Trustees. The objectives of RMF should assist the management and the Board of Directors of both AMC and Trustees in demonstrating high standards of due diligence in daily management, promoting proactive management and early identification of risk, assigning accountability in the organization, and managing risk within the tolerance limits defined in the RMF. The RMF comprises the components of governance and organization, identification of risks, measurement and management of risks and reporting of risks and related information. Importantly, the elements of RMF have been segregated into ‘mandatory elements’ which should be implemented by the AMCs, and ‘recommendatory elements' which address other

 FINDING DOMAIN SPECIALISTS AND PROFESSIONALS RMF has caught many AMCs unawares and has created an urgency to tap right professionals and domain experts, particularly at senior levels, to comply with the SEBI guidelines. As most of the AMCs would be in this situation, finding right talent immediately may be a challenge.  CUSTOMISATION OF THE RISK-RELATED POLICIES AMCs should have formulated the ‘mandatory’ policies in compliance with the framework with their own internal resources and expertise. The industry body AMFI is also lending a helping hand in crafting policies. Yet, the AMCs would need to ‘customize’ the policies in the light of their own risk assessment, challenges, experiences, learnings, and perceptions to make them really useful.

REPORT

THE

INDIAN INDI IND IAN HOSPITAL INDUSTRY

T

& The Way Ahead

he Indian Healthcare Industry, comprising hospitals, telemedicine, medical tourism, medical apparatus, doctors, and medical equipment, is rising at a remarkable pace. The hospital industry of India is emerging at double speed due to progression in technology and growth in multiple diseases.

As per the reports by India Brand Equity Foundation, the Indian Hospital Industry accounting for 80% of the total healthcare is expected to touch the US $132 billion by the year 2023, indicating substantial growth. The growth in the industry is driven by an increase in income of the middle class, health awareness, and penetration of health insurance. The report by Niti Ayog (National Institution for Transforming India) states that “In the hospital segment, the expansion of

private players to Tier 2 and Tier 3 locations, beyond metropolitan cities, offers an attractive investment opportunity.”

GROWTH DRIVERS OF THE HOSPITAL INDUSTRY  Emerging Middle Class And Growing Population The population of India is rising significantly, and an increase in population means that the demand for hospital services will also rise. As the population is demanding high-quality healthcare services, new hospital projects are mushrooming in the country. Furthermore, the increase in per capita expense from this group can lead to the growth of the hospital industry.  Growing Health Awareness People are now getting more health-conscious, they are now more aware of the diseases. The growing education and awareness about the diseases, increase the demand for the

hospital and its services. The increase in chronic and infectious diseases also helps in driving the growth of the hospital industry.  Ageing Population With the increase in population, India’s demographic pattern has seen a major transition. The population above the age of 60 is continuing to grow. In 2013, elderly people were only 8% of the total population, but it is estimated that this number can reach 18.3% by 2050. With this pattern, the demand for the hospital industry will increase substantially. Elderly people experience more morbidity patterns. To provide the elderly population with all the medical access and service, the hospital industry is getting a big opportunity for growth.  Medical Tourism Medical Tourism in India is rapidly becoming a million-dollar business and will surely play the role of a key driver in the

growth of the hospital industry. India has skilled and multi-speciality hospitals and expert professionals that make India a medical tourism destination. According to Medical Tourism Association, India is ranked 10th out of 46 in 2020-2021. The market is expected to stand at US$13.42 billion by 2026, which was estimated at US$ 2.89 billion in 2020. Increased Expenditure On Healthcare By The Government The Union Budget 2022-2023 has allocated INR 86,200 crore to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, a nearly 16.5 per cent increase in comparison to what was allocated in FY 20202021 i.e. 73,932 crores. 

GOVERNMENT'S INITIATIVES

The Indian government is taking the necessary steps to strengthen the healthcare system. Some of the initiatives mentioned in the Union Budget of 2022-23 are:

The scheme helps the vulnerable group of society to reduce the burden of medical expenses. Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana The Scheme was initiated in 2006, in order to make healthcare facilities affordable for every part of society. This scheme also facilitates medical education across India, especially in those areas that are under-developed. Indian government allocated Rs. 10,000 Crore to ‘Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana’ in Union Budget 2022-23. 

2021-2022, indicating a decrease of 72 per cent. Along with these key schemes, there are some other initiatives as well, taken by the Indian government to make healthcare facilities affordable and of quality. ‘National Health Mission’ and ‘National Ayush Mission’ are among much-appreciated schemes initiated by the government.

PEOPLE’S PREFERENCE FOR PRIVATE HOSPITALS

Good health of the population is the ‘Wealth of the Nation’. After India attained independence, only 15% of people were using private hospitals. But in the contemporary era, the tables have completely turned. The patient preference towards the kind of hospital depends on the quality standards of the service providers, self affordability, and accessibility. While private hospitals provide a high standard of treatment and hygiene conditions, public hospitals fail to provide such facilities. Private hospitals concentrate on delivering

| Special Issue | May 2022

secondary and tertiary health service, while public hospitals only focus on basic primary healthcare.

Taking hospitalization and non-hospitalization cases together, almost two-thirds of the Indian population gets treatment from private hospitals rather than public hospitals.

FINAL THOUGHT

The scope of the hospital industry in India is vast and full of opportunities. India offers tremendous scope in R&D as well as medical tourism. Indian healthcare sector is indeed delivering the best medical services to the people and is eventually getting better.

HEALTH

A QUICK OVERVIEW

OF INDIA’S

DIAGN STIC CENTRES T he diagnostic industry plays a crucial role in the healthcare industry because more than 70% of medical decisions are based on the diagnosis and the detection of the disease. The diagnostic industry and the services provided by it are the most affordable in India in comparison to other countries. Because of the affordability, people are able to diagnose the disease at an early stage and get early therapy to cure it.

The diagnostic industry is estimated at Rs. 675 billion and is expected to grow at a rapid annual rate of more than 10 per

cent over the next 5 years. The growth is driven by the increasing prevalence of diseases, ageing, insurance penetration and proliferation of the income. Around 40-50% of diagnostic centres are working in Tier I cities and the remaining are from Tier II and III cities.

TYPES OF DIAGNOSTIC CENTRES

Undoubtedly, the diagnostic segment is a critical component of the healthcare sector. Majorly, there are three types of diagnostic centres in India:  Hospital-Based Diagnostic Centres These centres are located on the premises of the hospitals. Generally, hospitals have in-house pathology labs and radiology centres for the patient. The share of hospital-based diagnostic centres in the diagnostic industry is 37%.  Diagnostic Chains The diagnostic chain comprises two or more diagnostic centres. These chains enjoy the benefit of years of experience, brand name and trust, quality norms and authorizations that help patients to provide quality services. The diagnostic chain provides the radiology or pathology testing or both. The diagnostic chain contributes 16% to the industry.  Standalone Centres Standalone diagnostic centres contribute the largest share in the diagnostic industry. The share of standalone centres is 47% in the market. These kinds of centres specialize in one particular kind, for example, they either

GROWTH FACTORS

provide radiology or pathology services. This section of the industry is growing substantially over the past few years.

GROWTH FACTORS

Owing to the rapid growth of the healthcare industry in the past few years, the number of diagnostic centres has also seen a sharp rise. The focus on early detection and prevention of medical conditions is increasing, thereby leading to increased use of diagnostic centres. Here are some notable growth drivers of the Indian diagnostic Industry:  Preventive Care And Wellness In today’s time, people are getting more aware of their health and taking every preventive measure to avoid any unwanted circumstances. This change in behaviour leads to the growth of the industry because people are taking timely checkups and tests. The awareness and education towards the disease diagnosis are also helping the industry to flourish in the healthcare spectrum.

 Prevalence Of Diseases The rise in chronic and infectious diseases makes people conscious about their health. With the emergence of the Covid-19 pandemic, the demand for diagnostic centres and point-of-care (POC) escalated the market growth. According to the report by Global Cancer Observatory (an interactive web-based platform that presents global cancer statistics), India recorded 1,324,413 new cancer cases in 2020. As per other reports, the country conducted over 787,355,35 Covid tests as of March 28th, 2022. All these diagnoses are done in diagnostic labs, thereby helping the industry to flourish in the healthcare sector.

Preventive Care And Wellness  Rising Income With the increase in income, people are able to go for routine checkups and ensure a healthy life. They have started preferring the quality of diagnostic centres' services over the price. For them, quality tests are necessary, even if they have to pay a little more money. An increase in income levels means that the person can spend more on healthcare services. This has led to the growth of the overall healthcare sector and consequently the diagnostic industry.  Ageing Population India with its continuously growing population is witnessing a sharp spike in the number of elderly people. It is growing two-fold in the past few years. Elderly people are more prone to morbidity and infection. In order to keep the older generation healthy, it is important to conduct routine checkups and diagnose if there is a possibility of any disease.

TECHNOLOGICAL ADVANCEMENTS IN THE INDUSTRY

Like any other industry, technology has also impacted diagnostic centres. The application of technological equipment and robotic tools significantly increases the efficiency of the services provided by the diagnostic centres. Here are some of the technological advancements that are helping the diagnostic centre industry:  Real-Time Diagnosis Wearable devices are pretty common in modern times. The bio-sensors watches, bands, contact lenses and rings monitor heart rate, blood pressure, oxygen

Rising Income

saturation, temperature and many other things. If there are any abnormal changes in the body, it is detected by these technological devices. With these devices, people can diagnose the disease even when there are no symptoms of the disease. It is different from any traditional mode of diagnosis, but is efficient and also provides the benefit of continuous monitoring.  Use Of Artificial Intelligence Artificial intelligence has the enormous potential to provide adequate results in diagnostic performance. AI is used in diagnostic imaging more frequently. It reduces the efforts and saves time while providing accurate results. Its deep learning models help healthcare professionals with labour-intensive tasks and assist without any complexity. Point of Care & Home-based Testing The technology makes it easier to get diagnostic tests done for the patients as well as healthcare professionals. With the help of new technological tools, rapid testing is done at the convenience of home or the nearest diagnostic centres. It simplifies the testing procedures and gives accurate results in a short period of time. 

Ageing Population

GOVERNMENT INITIATIVES

The government of India is taking the initiative to help the industry grow and better the facilities across the country. The health ministry has also announced the mission of free of charge tests under ‘Ayushman Bharat’ by 2025. The national-level platform ‘Integrated Health Information Platform (IHIP)’ will be set up for public health labs. The second mission for the government in ‘Ayushaman Bharat’ would be to establish inclusive diagnostic centres and medical labs.

THE ROAD AHEAD

The diagnostic industry is an emerging sector and has a lot of potential. The increase in healthcare expenditure helps the diagnostic industry to grow eventually. Technology plays a pivotal role in transforming the industry and making it more efficient. India’s diagnostic industry is moving towards providing quality and affordable medical facilities.

Technology has its limitations also, it is generally considered that with the use of technology, there is a risk to the data privacy of the patients. The other problem with the technology is that the physician's role will be greatly impacted due to the technological assistance. If the industry tackles these issues effectively, the industry will grow to a great extent.

THE CREATIVE WAY TO COMMUNICATE The staff of Echoes has its creative ways to communicate with you. Various things tickle your curiosity and awake the child inside you. Let’s take you on a short tour of the cafe:

 CUE CARDS The restaurant has special cue cards placed on each table for the customers to convey their message to the staff. These cue cards have instructions written on them like ‘Fork’, ‘Spoon’, ‘Knife’, ‘Clear The Table’, ‘Bring The Menu’, ‘Pack the Food’ and many others. With these cue cards, the staff can understand your needs and cater to the service. If you want your bill, just show the ‘Bring the Bill’ cue card to the staff and soon they come up with your bill, it is that easy.  THE SWITCH AND THE LIGHT When you go there, you’ll notice the switch button at each table. Since the staff of the cafe can’t hear, by pressing these buttons you can call them to your table. These buttons light up the bulb that indicates the staff that they are called and it also specifies the particular table to which they have to go.

A CAFE THAT CONVERSES WITHOUT ANY LANGUAGE Come on in, we are deaf and mute and we love having conversations. “Your foot-tapping tells me, the music here is great,” was the line written on the tshirt of one of the workers that touched our hearts the moment we read it. While any cafe is recognized via its ambience and the food quality; light bulbs, placards, and sign language are what explicate an extraordinary cafe serving food with love since 2015. We are talking about ‘Echoes’, a restaurant that is run by specially-abled staff - those who are speech and hearing impaired. The staff communicates seamlessly with the smiling gestures and their creative ways. Located in the Hudson Lane, GTB Nagar, this restaurant is a mustvisit place to gain a heartwarming experience.

FOOD SERVED WITH A SOCIAL PURPOSE Three friends who wanted to pursue their dream that would reflect the vision of a better society. That’s how they came up with the idea of a restaurant that would serve delicious food with a social purpose. Starting in 2015, this restaurant is dearer to college-going students for its budget-friendly delightful food. The refreshing vibes of the restaurant are enhanced by the music and delightful ambience.

At no point, you will feel that there is a hindrance in communication with the staff or any such sort of thing. The moment you enter the cafe, a smiling face welcomes you with an open heart.

 MENU AND ITS CODE To order the appetizing food, the staff gives you a writing pad to note down your order. You must be thinking about what is so special about this. Here it is! Special codes are assigned to each food item. Let’s say you want to order Momos, there are different codes for different types of Momos. M1 for Steam Momos, M2 for Tandoori Momos and so on. So just choose the code for Momos that you wish to order and write it down on the writing pad. Mention the dish code, quantity and customization (if any) and wait for the delicious food to arrive at your table.  FOOD As soon as you enter this restaurant, you will feel the positive vibes of the staff. Their smiling faces make your visit worth it. Apart from the vibes, the ambience of Echoes is so beautiful that you will fall in love with this place. The picture-perfect interiors enhance the beauty of this place. The interior, the signboard and the sweet gestures of the staff make this cafe an exhilarated place.  AMBIENCE Echoes makes you realise that language is not necessary for communication. It is not just a cafe that serves mouth-watering food but is an emotion for everyone who visits it. ‘Talk with your eyes and speak with your hands’ as the speech is simply too overrated. Do you feel the same? If not, visit the restaurant, experience a world that is different yet so similar and you will feel the same.
