ABOUT THIS BOOK

For four weeks, The GIANT Room joined students and teachers to learn about AI literacy, storytelling, and science As part of the school’s Inheritance and Traits unit, we focused on animal characters, the special powers and physical traits of these characters, played games that connected the characters together based on their traits, and then used these traits as the foundation of a comic strip story.

During the sessions with The GIANT Room team, students created their own collectible animal trading cards using generative AI, used text-based AI as a group storytelling tool, drew comics of their stories, and even worked together to come up with what the setting of their stories looked like using block-based prompt engineering.

We want to thank this public school and the Joan Ganz Cooney Center for their partnership and to the Robin Hood Foundation for funding the program and making this publication possible.

HOW THIS BOOK IS MADE

Co-designed and co-written by 17 students, AI, and a multidisciplinary team of artists, educators, and writers at The GIANT Room, The Adventures of 17 Animal Scientists and Prompt Engineers showcases students’ science, storytelling, and AI literacy achievements and invites their friends and family to celebrate, reflect, and learn about their creations!

Students engineered the animal avatars you see throughout the book by building a 3D animal model and completing a GIANT Mission Sheet that asked them to dream up an animal -- real or imaginary -, give it a name, and share traits about it Designers from The GIANT Room then used photos of students’ 3D animal models and written descriptions to generate their avatars with AI tools. You’ll find the exact AI prompts we used in the section, “Meet the Animals ” The science teacher also joined in and created her own AI avatar.

In our last workshop together, students used block-based prompt engineering to generate what they envision the setting of their story to look like In groups, they added nouns, adjectives, qualifiers, quantifiers, connectors and more to build a text prompt, telling AI exactly what they wanted it to generate. These images were used as the background settings for students’ comics

Why AI? The GIANT Room’s mission is to elevate kids’ voices and provide them with opportunities to publish and share with friends and family. AI is a powerful tool they can use in their creative journey, and along the way they can gain AI and media literacy skills that are incredibly valuable for their future. The GIANT Room introduces students to these tools in a responsible way, always with a human in the loop.

ACERCA DE ESTE LIBRO

Durante cuatro semanas, The GIANT Room visitó una escuela para aprender junto con sus alumnos y maestros sobre la alfabetización de Inteligencia Artificial, la Narración de Historias y la Ciencia. Utilizando el currículum de clase enfocado en Herencia y Rasgos, nos enfocamos en crear personajes basados en animales; sus rasgos físicos y poderes especiales. Jugamos juegos que conectaban a los personajes según sus rasgos y luego utilizamos estos rasgos como base para crear una novela gráfica.

En las sesiones con el equipo de The GIANT Room, los estudiantes crearon sus propias tarjetas de colección utilizando Inteligencia Artificial (IA) generativa. Este libro fue co-diseñado y co-escrito por 17 estudiantes, Inteligencia Artificial, y un equipo multidisciplinario de artistas, educadores, y escritores de The GIANT Room. Este libro “The Adventures of 17 Animal Scientists and Prompt Engineers” muestra el increíble trabajo científico, de narración de historias, y de alfabetización de IA que hicieron los estudiantes. ¡Al mismo tiempo, invitando a sus amigos y familiares a celebrar, reflexionar y aprender sobre su creación!

After defeating them, Geometric Turtle heard of the Sapa Wolf’s struggle and went to help.

Once upon a minute in 1889 there was a digging elephant.

And a Chita was eating ice cream sitting at a bench.

And a panda named Bano was sitting under a tree watching them.

The elephant is dripping a lot of hot water.

Chita is looking at him.

Bano went to ask them if he could play

Just as they started playing, the ground cracked open and they all fell into a giant underground candy store, hidden beneath the castle!

SSUPER UPER ZZOEY! OEY!

My dog Zoey looked up and realized she had super powers!

I woke up, and I went to see King and his teeth fell out!

Until, a monster jumps out of the dark!

I will fight the slash claw, and I will win.

But Zoey wasn’t afraid; she knew she had to fight the slash claw and protect everyone. Let’s go outside!

Flames Flames

Once upon a time, in a bright, magical land, their lived the legendary Flames the Phoenix, who was known for bringing warmth and joy to everyone.

Frosty the Penguin wants to meet this “Flames.”

Zoro the Brave Dog wants to meet Flames, too.

Flower wants to visit Zoro and Flames and Frosty, too.

Flames said, “Yes, but can I bring Harry Potter?” Frosty said, “Yes, coming now. ” They all meet each other happily.
