Blue Springs Fall Fun Fest 2012

Jenifer Witzke, CommunityAmerica Credit Union As an employee in Blue Springs and a fellow chamber member, I have truly enjoyed my experience with the Blue Springs Fall Fun Festival. I joined the committee in April 2007, after opening my first CommunityAmerica Credit Union branch at the Blue Springs Hy-Vee. My plan going into the first meeting was to mingle with a few chamber members and volunteer a couple of hours of service. Well, it’s now been five years, and I am currently vice co-chair of the committee. Needless to say, after one meeting with this committee I was ecstatic about getting more involved. The festival is an extraordinary event that showcases amazing talent and people in the city of Blue Springs. All festivities are supported by non-paid volunteers who live and work in the community, many spending countless hours working to make the festival, chamber and city a success. I am grateful to be part of such a great event and look forward to actively participating in years to come. Rachel Hummel, MCPower Company Rachel Hummel with MCPower Company is the Blue Springs Chamber of Commerce secretary/treasurer as well as one of the festival’s chairmen. Hummel has been involved with the chamber since 2008. Hummel said she welcomes everyone to the annual Blue Springs Fall Fun Festival and gives a big thank you to sponsors and volunteers both past and present. She said organizers could not make it such a success without their support. A special thanks, she said, goes to Blue Springs Christian Church for keeping the festival free from trash and debris. This is an incredible service that they provide for the festival, she said. The festival celebrates the growth and community spirit in Blue Springs. This year, the chamber is recognizing 50 years of the Blue Springs Chamber of Commerce with

its parade theme “Peace, Love and Rock n’ Roll.” New this year is a collectible-themed festival T-shirt, and in the beer garden, the festival can koozie. With limited quantities available, visitors won’t want to miss the opportunity to start a collection. Sizes will go fast. With a crowd of more than 100,000 in attendance, visitors are sure to see someone they know and meet new friends at the parade, in the carnival area, along the Main Street shopping vendor booths or with downtown merchants that are open during the festival weekend. The festival is great free, family fun for all ages. The Blue Springs Fall Fun Festival promotes and supports many local not-forprofit organizations. One in particular is the Community Services League. Each year a check is presented to the local group for tips collected at the beer garden, such a great way to give back to our community while having a good time. Another new addition is the “Chill Zone,” sponsored by Centerpoint Urgent Care of Blue Springs. It is being manned by Midwest Regional Core Volunteers to assist festival attendees with minor bumps and bruises. Did you know that September is National Emergency Preparedness Month? Stop by 10th and Main streets to check out the Blue Springs Central Jackson County Emergency Management Agency, Community Emergency Response Team booth and trailer. All residents should know what to do in case of an emergency in our area and these folks are ready to show and tell. Also nearby will be the Central Jackson County Fire Protection District crew to answer any questions and show the kids the fire equipment on the truck. In addition to the CERT group, the festival has the Blue Springs Police Department Citizens Police Academy and Volunteers in Police Services on the festival grounds, providing child identification kits at no charge. Make sure to stop by their booth on Main Street to get your kids fingerprinted and photographed. The chamber hopes everyone enjoys what the festival has to offer and thanks everyone for supporting the Blue Springs Chamber of Commerce and the Blue Springs community.
