13 Students Named National Merit Semifinalists: Thirteen EA seniors were selected as National Merit Semifinalists based on their 2023 PSAT/ NMSQT® scholarship test scores and are now being considered for some 7,000 National Merit Scholarships that will be announced this spring. Additionally, 12 students were named Commended Students, and five students earned College Board National Recognition Program Awards. In total, 30 seniors have been recognized, at several levels, by the National Merit Scholarship Program.
2024 Lilley Fellows: Last spring, four Upper School students were selected to undertake in-depth research projects through EA’s Lilley Fellows program.
Rohan Dalal ’25, Lucia Forte ’26, Gelila Getachew ’25, and J.D. Krasnick ’25 delved into their research from January through August and will present their final capstone projects this fall. Working alongside faculty advisors, students researched if geographic factors impact the prevalence of food allergies; how theatre accessibility for those with disabilities can be improved with a focus on theatrical teaching; how the ethnic federalist system has influenced ongoing genocide against the Amhara people; and the implications of BrainComputer Interfaces (BCI) in the future.
Established in 2018 by Mr. and Mrs. William Lilley III ’55, the Lilley Fellowship Fund awards research fellowships to students who exemplify academic curiosity, intellectual rigor, and scholarly passion.
A Spring of STEM: It was a spring of STEM as students, faculty, and staff had the opportunity to hear from insightful and inspiring speakers as part of the Clare Foundation and Hinton Family STEM Speaker Series. In April, Middle and Upper School students were treated to an upbeat presentation from Dr. Po-Shen Loh, a social entrepreneur, educational researcher, and math professor at Carnegie Mellon University while Lower School students were thrilled to see math mixed with magic in the high-energy presentation, "Math Magical," starring comic magician Brian Richards. Then, in May, Middle and Upper School students had the opportunity to hear from Patrice Banks, an engineer-turned-auto-technician, author, and founder of Girls Auto Clinic.
May Term 2024: For Upper School students, the end of May was full of adventures, learning, and bonding with their fellow classmates as they took on May Term. During this two-week academic program, students and teachers explore a diversity of innovative topics in great depth on campus, in our community, around the region, and across the globe. From snorkeling at the Great Barrier Reef, mangrove planting in the Senegal River, firing pottery vessels in a mobile Raku studio, and learning to make homemade croissants, to singing of the streets of New Orleans, hearing from notable leaders, volunteering at local organizations, and visiting historical sites around the Philadelphia area, Upper School students ended the 2023-24 school year with experiences of a lifetime! 3 4 3 4 3 4

In Birnam Wood: The Harlequin Ensemble returned to the Ridgway Blackbox Theater in March as they brought to life In Birnam Wood, a shorter and more family-friendly version of Shakespeare’s Macbeth. More than 40 Middle School cast and crew members entertained audiences with a magical concoction mixed with horror, humor, and suspense.
Pippin: The Domino Club took the big stage in the Carrafiell Family Theater this past May as they presented Pippin. The cast and crew of 50 Upper School students, along with the faculty band and orchestra, wowed audiences with their creative and successful production. Bravo!
A Celebration of the Arts: During ArtsFest on April 26, the talents of EA artists, musicians, dancers, and performers from all divisions were showcased throughout campus. With live music, dance, and theatre performances, artwork of all styles lining the hallways, and community art projects, the day was a true celebration of the depth and breadth of the arts at EA. Winners of the annual Upper School Dora Khayatt Art Competition were also announced during ArtsFest after judges reviewed the more than 100 pieces of artwork submitted for consideration in four categories: woodworking, photography, 3-D, and 2-D. "The strength, variety, and individual lenses that come through these unique pieces always brings such joy and pride to the Visual Art Department," said Visual Arts Chair David Sigel, Hon.

Mbi ri nawa (I'm doing alright): Jack Gallagher '25 kicked off the 202425 Crawford Campus Center Gallery season with Mbi ri nawa (I'm doing alright), a photography showcase of his National Geographic Expedition to Namibia—a country located on the southwestern coast of Africa—this past summer. "For three weeks, I lived out of a tent and traveled by a simple box truck, capturing its extraordinary landscapes, wildlife, and people," Jack explained in his artist statement. "I met with local environmental experts dedicated to protecting Namibia's unique ecosystems and the thousands of rare species that call it home."
