Centrally located in southwest Mesa, Dobson Ranch combines the benefits of a suburban development with the charm and character of a friendly community neighborhood. But that’s not all! With approximately 65 acres of common areas and 78 acres of lakes, Dobson Ranch is also a walkable community, offering miles of landscaped paths and walkways. Many of these walkways feature mature shade trees, benches for resting, picnic tables, exercise equipment, pet pickup stations, and beautiful views of the surrounding parks and lakes.

Some of the paths and walkways in Dobson Ranch are featured in this issue starting on page 6. Cooler weather will be here soon so a walk or jog around a park or lake may help soothe the mind, improve health or provide quality time with friends and loved ones. Enjoy a little nature and fresh air close to home… just another reason Dobson Ranch is the best place to live!

Director’s Report

It’s hard to believe, summer is almost over, the new school year has begun and we are dreaming of cooler weather right around the corner and of all the fun events fall brings. One of our charges as an Association is the promotion and maintenance of community spirit. I read this quote the other day…”When strangers start acting like neighbors…communities are reinvigorated.” (Ralph Nader) How true this is! Daily I hear from residents who have ideas to improve the community.

Often they don’t know where to begin and are seeking guidance. Whether it be improving their immediate area or ideas on a larger scale the Association is always interested in helping promote community.

Most recently I received a call from a homeowner in the Los Altos area inquiring on the concrete panel fences that still exist in some areas of the Ranch. Many of these fences have long since deteriorated and have been replaced with block walls, most that remain are in need of replacement. This neighbor had a fabulous idea! He wanted to spearhead having all of the panel fences replaced surrounding his immediate area. Not only is it an inevitable necessity but by combining forces, as a neighborhood, all those who participate would benefit financially by contracting all of the work at the same time. The last we spoke he had put notes on his neighbors’ doors to initiate communication, we offered to help reach out to owners if he was unable to reach them.

Fortunately, this isn’t unique – every day we receive calls from concerned neighbors regarding everything from a garage door being left up, a pet being lost or found, to concern over the appearance of a property. Of course, no one wants to receive a Friendly Reminder from our hard working Code Enforcement Inspectors, however, we all have the same goal – we want Dobson Ranch to be the best place to live! Sometimes that takes a reminder, causing pause in our busy lives to realize how our little space in the world impacts others.

It’s the middle of August and Fall is just around the corner! Really?!? Where did the summer go?!?

Summer may be fading away but its fun memories are neatly tucked away in our minds and it is time to focus… on more fun of course! No matter what season it is or what the weather holds in store, Dobson Ranch has activities, events, classes and amenities that can be enjoyed any time of the year.

Since our thoughts are turning to Fall, start marking your calendars for all the big Fall events coming up in Dobson Ranch. You won’t want to miss a single one! October will usher in the events with the popular Golf Tournament held at the Dobson Ranch Golf Course. Sign up early as this event fills up fast! Then October will continue to be a full month with the Clean Up, Shred and Garage Sale, Fall Break Camp, and the Fishing Tournament/Outdoor Expo. It’s almost time to start working on costumes because the Halloween Spooktacular will finish out the month of October. Look for all the details in the Recreation section of this Ranchers’ Roundup.

If you need to keep cool, the pools are open for a refreshing dip. Please enjoy the amenities at Dobson Ranch has to offer and I hope to see you at the next great Dobson Ranch event!

Assessment Reminder 2015 Assessment Quarterly is $138.60, Semi-annual is $277.20, Annually is $554.40 Assessments are due on the first of each quarter. A late fee of $30 will be charged quarterly if your payment is not received by the 20th of the first month of each quarter (January, April, July and October). Delinquent interest will accrue on any unpaid balance.

If you are interested in paying your assessment monthly through ACH (auto debit to your checking account) please complete the form on the front page of our website and return to the administrative office along with a voided check.

ACH payments are run on the 5th of each month.

There are several other options for paying your assessments: 1) Annual or Quarterly payments can be made by check, cash, debit or credit card. Please be sure to include your payment coupon when mailing your payment in. You can make a one-time payment on our website if paying by debit or credit card.

2) For recurring payments using a debit or credit card, there is a processing site that you can access from the Dobson Association web page located at www.dobsonranchhoa.com. From there click on the payment tab.

For those presently setup with us on recurring payment using a debit or credit card, you will need to change the recurring amount to the 2015 assessment amount. Go to www.dobsonranchhoa.com, click on the Payment tab and follow the prompts. Once logged into the payment site, you can modify the payment amount in the auto pay menu.

3) You may send in monthly recurring payments if using your automatic bill pay. You will have to set up the payment online through your bill pay program. Please be sure to include your account number and property address to ensure proper credit to your account.

Message from the Association Board President

I called the July 16, 2015 Dobson Ranch Homeowners Association Board of Directors meeting to order at 7:05 pm. It was a productive meeting, here’s a recap…

I gave the President’s Report, reporting that the City of Mesa flowrider competition between Mesa and Tempe Public Safety officers at Rhodes Aquatic center is on August 15th from 8am to 10am. We will be there to cheer for the Mesa public safety officers and we hope that you will be too.

I pointed out a few things that were in the July’s Ranchers Roundup…on page two Executive Director, David Jones and his team wrote an article for the CAI Community Resource magazine.

The topic for the month was HOA’s and H2O. The staff shared the article in the Roundup and on the Board meeting day we received the actual printed magazine. The staff did a great job writing it.

For that, Dobson Ranch was the “Community Spotlight” for the magazine. The magazine shows pictures, which is different than the article in the Roundup. The staff works hard to get us recognized for what a great community Dobson Ranch is. I appreciate what the staff did for us! Further in on page 26 was an article regarding the Mesa Fire and Medical station. The architect, who is a Dobson Ranch resident and married to me, Ken Powers, gave a brief interview regarding the project and what lies ahead. (I just had to throw that in, being my husband and all….)

Executive Director, David Jones gave his Director’s Report, reporting that the preschool flooring is to be replaced; common area landscaping is being cleaned up due to recent storms and general landscape refurbishment is taking place; Los Altos courts project is being worked on; lighting in the La Casita parking lot has been fixed; the parking lots at Saratoga and La Casita have been coated and sealed; and the implementation of HOA software approved last month is being worked on.

Susan Powers I reported on behalf of the Member Services Committee. A link to the new website being constructed has been shared with the Board and the Board was asked to share any feedback.

Treasurer Stacy Holmstedt, reviewed the financial highlights and variance report.

Bob Radisich spoke for the Master Planning Committee, handing out a two page summary of 2015 Reserve Projects. Homeowner Nate Caine was appointed to the committee. Bob Radisich then explained the presence of walls abutting common areas on the Reserve Study. Lastly, he passed out a policy on spending from the capital and reserve accounts which will be on the August agenda.

For the Water Management Committee, Board Member, Ron Magaw discussed that the committee did not have a quorum this month so they had a “talk session” in lieu of a meeting. Water Management Director, Craig Wilson, is creating a presentation on renovating lake one shelves for Board review.

Board member, Sarah Funtowicz spoke on behalf of the Recreation Committee reporting that the committee will reconvene in September. Banquet chairs at La Casita have been replaced and new tables are on order; the ice cream social was scheduled for July 17th; and pickleball lessons are on hold as well as pontoon rides due to the weather.

The reworking of the Associations’ vision and mission statements were contemplated and voted on. The mission statement was approved and the vision statement will be modified and presented in August.

The following business items were deliberated, voted on, and approved: • Landscaping change to Los Altos common area • Ranchers’ Roundup magazine publisher • Extended pool hours – this will be tested at La Casita through September Executive Director, David Jones recognized the Dobson Ranch sponsored Adult Co-Rec Softball team – they received the “Summer 2015” championship award. Way to represent Dobson Ranch! Congratulations!

The meeting adjourned at 8:40 pm.

Dobson Ranch HOA Fence Project Complete!

It’s time to celebrate the completion of our fence project! Five years ago, the HOA Board of Directors embarked on a journey that would affect every home on Dobson Ranch. They decided to fix the problem of discolored and rotting perimeter block walls needing to be repaired and painted, especially those located along Dobson, Guadalupe, Baseline, Price and Alma School Roads.

The perimeter walls of Dobson Ranch are our windows to the world. They give passers-by a glimpse of our community and the kind of caring neighbors one can find within. We weren’t putting our best foot forward in this regard. These were problems typical of an aging community. They are readily visible in other neighborhoods, but we aren’t like those neighborhoods. We pride ourselves on being great, so we needed to correct the walls.

This process started when the wall problem was first noted. It was found that the block walls were rotting due to repeated watering. As long as these walls kept getting wet, nothing would serve as a real fix. A short term solution could have been to paint over the problem but inevitably the paint would peel again. Eventually, blocks would crumble and walls would crack and fall. Painting walls annually would be an expensive band-aide that left the core problem to get worse.

On top of this, we had another problem. All those block walls belong to the individual owners, not to the common area of the ranch HOA. Those owners were responsible for their upkeep and for conforming to our requirements in the CC&R’s, but it quickly became clear that an individual approach would not solve the problem. Everyone who tried to fix the problem would do so in their own way, and as a result we’d have variation in wall colors and stucco textures. Even then, the rotting of the block walls would continue if we didn’t address its root cause. Certainly, the efforts of individual homeowners couldn’t be easily coordinated and as a result these repairs would not offer our community the desired maximum improvement to curb appeal.

So, in 2010, the HOA Board of Directors voted to provide a one time incentive to all homeowners of our perimeter walls. The offer made was that the HOA would have a contractor repair and paint the outside surfaces of these perimeter walls (the ones everyone can see) if the homeowner agreed to fix any rotting or other structural damage to the inside of these block walls. In addition, the homeowners had to agree to seal the inside wall surfaces with waterproofing sealer, move sprinkler systems from the wall and cap the top of the wall to reduce rain effects. Once the inside wall repair was verified, and a contract was signed making it clear that future repairs to either side of the wall are the homeowner’s responsibility, the contractor would complete the outside wall repair providing a consistent texture, color and long-term repair.

Tom Minor, an architect who lives on the ranch, served as project engineer. He tested various “fixes” to assure their effectiveness and monitored the contractor’s job was to spec.

This had been a monumental project. It has gone on through five Boards of Directors, involved countless meetings with hundreds of homeowners to explain the project and gain their agreement. In the end, we now have perimeter walls that get noticed by passers-by because of their fresh look and consistency, especially when comparing our walls to others in the aging neighborhoods surrounding Dobson Ranch. This project cost $570,800 to complete, or about $23 per homeowner per year for the 5 year duration.

We’re convinced that projects like this add to the value of all of our homes by making this a more desirable community in which to live.

In June, the HOA Board of Directors voted to declare the fence project COMPLETE. It represents an accomplishment that deserves to be celebrated! Our thanks to all those who made it happen and to you, our homeowners for supporting this effort.

Laguna Park

Located at 2455 W Laguna Azul, Laguna Park can be the beginning or end or you walk! Exercise equipment for adults lines the sidewalk on the east side of the park and for the young at heart, there is playground equipment on the south end. There are shade trees, picnic tables, and pet pickup stations. The best part of course, is the walk along Lake 7‌ it’s beautiful!

Lake 1 The Los Altos Recreation Center at 2524 W Campo Alegre is located along Lake 1. The walkway can be accessed from the Los Altos parking lot, at the 2100 block of Inlet Loop and other locations as well. Along the walk at Lake 1 you will find mature shade trees, benches, exercise equipment, picnic tables, a dock, playground equipment, picnic tables, water fountains and pet pickup stations. There is a nice footbridge that connects the 2300 block of W Calle Iglesia with the 2300 block of W Impala. After a walk on a warm day the Los Altos pools are available during normal business hours for a refreshing dip!

Lake 7/ Saratoga Lake 7, sometimes referred to as Saratoga Lake, is the largest lake at Dobson Ranch and has the longest walkway. The walkway can be accessed from the 2700 block of W Keating, the Monte Pathway at the 2600 block of W Monte, Laguna Park at 2455 W Laguna Azul and from the Saratoga Recreation Center, 2345 S Saratoga.

Along this walkway are mature shade trees, benches, playground equipment, a water fountain, pet pickup stations, picnic tables, docks and a phenomenal view of this gorgeous lake! There is a pool at the Saratoga Rec Center for cooling off after a long walk or jog. This walkway is a great amenity that all residents can enjoy!

Monte Pathway Monte pathway is a lovely little path that stretches across the north and south side of the 2600 block of W Monte. It is just a small path but it plays a big role in continuing the walk along Lake 7 and across W Keating to Lake 8. The small pathway is narrow and has partial shade but as it connects up to the walkway on Lake 7 there are benches, pet pickup stations and a small dock on the south end of the path. There is also a great view of the fountain at the end of Lake 7.

YOUR Community Lake 8 Lake 8 is a small lake located in the southwest corner of Dobson Ranch.

The lovely walkway complete with benches and pet pickup stations, can be accessed from the 2600 block of W Naranja and the 2700 block of W Keating. On the north side of Keating the walk will continue on to Lake 7.

Whether going on a short walk or a long one, Lake 8 is a great place to start.

Recycling Correctly Helps Everyone

What do garden hoses, disposable diapers, syringes, and VHS tapes have in common? They are all items that do not belong in recycling bins, yet are commonly-found contaminants at the Materials Recovery Facility at the Salt River Landfill. On a recent tour, we learned that acceptable recyclable materials, such as aluminum, glass, and cardboard, are loaded onto conveyer belts once they arrive, and then are separated by gravity and compressed air. Any non-recyclable items must be removed by hand, and this contamination clogs up the machinery and causes the system to shut down.

One reason cross-contamination occurs is confusion over which recyclable materials are acceptable. Previously, I thought all recyclable materials #1-7 were acceptable in Mesa, and learned recently that #6 Styrofoam items are unacceptable. As we saw on the tour, not everyone is aware of which materials can go into recycling bins. To avoid cross-contamination, please make sure you know which recyclable materials are accepted in your area and look twice at the bin before disposing items.

Recycling is something that we can do now to help sustain the Earth and preserve resources for future generations. According to the EPA, recycling conserves natural resources such as water, prevents pollution, reduces gas emissions that contribute to climate change, and saves energy. Recycling also creates jobs.

So what can you do to recycle more and encourage recycling in your community?

• Check out AmericaRecyclesDay.org and join over 63,500 concerned individuals who have taken the pledge to recycle.

• In my neighborhood, I coordinated the collection of toner cartridges and hand-held electronics to benefit conservation programs at the Phoenix Zoo and worked with another community to do the same. It is easy to take on similar projects or simply encourage others to recycle.

• Enjoy the free tour of the Salt River Landfill (by reservation, http://saltriverlandfill.com/request_a_tour, 480-941-3427) and share the fun facts you learn.

Now is the time to increase our recycling efforts, every day of the year. Encourage others to join you in recycling and remember to seek out the appropriate bins for your materials. Together, we will make a positive impact on our local, regional, and global conservation efforts. Future generations depend on the sustainable practices we embrace today.

Driving Around the Ranch

Driving around the Ranch I see where many residents are participating in our reverse season irrigation program. At least I assume that is why so many of the lawns in their landscape mix look dull - just like the lawn at Laguna Park. A lot of residents seem to be participating in our water conservation efforts.

Living in the Sonoran Desert offers some interesting challenges. Many landscapes around the Ranch try to ignore that little geographic fact and sport some kind of turf for those of us who need a little bit of green under our feet. Nothing better than bare feet on grass.

Then there is the problem that grass is a seasonal plant. In other parts of the country, the little plants that go into making a lawn only grow for part of the year and that appears to be acceptable. Here in Arizona we seem to want grass year round so we had to find grasses that will grow in the summer heat and also will grow in winter coolness. Unfortunately, one grass will not thrive under both conditions. We are faced with using two different varieties of grass or only having grass for one season. Bermuda grass will tolerate the heat, in fact thrives in the warm (hot) days of our summer. Once the soil temperature drops below 65 degrees, however, most varieties of Bermuda grass take the rest of the cool period off and wait for warmer temperatures to return. Some varieties of Bermuda grass will tolerate slightly cooler temperatures, but none will make it through even our mild winter temperatures.

That is where the annual rye grasses come to our rescue. These hardy strains will provide a green grass that we can play on, walk on, roll Easter eggs on and enjoy. That is when we want to be outdoors sitting on the grass watching a movie in the park. There is a price to pay for rye grass. When the temperatures start to climb again in the spring, the beautiful green grass dies, not to return.

Fortunately, Bermuda grass simply goes dormant when the cool temperatures arrive, it does not die. As soon as the soil warms up, the Bermuda grass returns to provide a new carpet of lawn to cover what would otherwise be exposed soil.

All this growing activity needs sun and water; lots of water. In the spring, the Bermuda grass needs both to reassert its presence. In the fall, the newly-planted rye grass needs water to germinate and establish its dominance over the dormant Bermuda grass. How can we afford two grass-growing periods each year and still be consistent with dwelling in a desert?

We employ what we referred to as reverse season irrigation and is the topic a recent article highlighted in the Directors Column at the front of the July issue of the Ranchers’ Roundup. In the summer, a lot of the water used to irrigate the lawn is lost to evaporation.

The individual plants that make up the lawn transpire lots of water. And the sun evaporates much of the irrigation water before it reaches the roots of the grass. Winter grass uses far less water and the sun does not cause nearly as much evaporation loss. We take advantage of the difference in this seasonal water demand. Bermuda grass also has the ability to slow down its growth as the amount of water it receives decreases. Reducing the amount of irrigation by 20% will dull the appearance of the Bermuda grass, but not harm the individual plants.

That 20% savings in the summer can be a lot of water. On the common areas of the Ranch, we expect to save 2 million gallons of water by only applying 80% of the normal amount of irrigation in the summer months. That savings is then available to establish the winter rye grass we enjoy through the winter months. Our way of keeping water abundant by using it wisely.

Table and Chair Rentals Make your next at home event great with the convenience of renting tables and chairs right in your community. The Dobson Association not only rents out facilities for private rentals but renting of chairs and tables not held on a ranch facility are also available. We can accommodate a rental up to 150 metal framed folding chairs and 15 rectangle 6 foot by 3 foot tables. The resident must schedule to pick up and drop off the chairs and tables at La Casita Recreation Center. A refundable security deposit of $50 is due in cash or credit card payment to hold your reservation. The rental cost per chair is $0.50 and $5 per table. Reservations can be made through the Recreation Department at 480-831-7464 and include a 14 day cancellation policy.

Dobson Ranch Recreation From the Recreation Manager’s Desk

It’s hard to believe with the temperatures in the 100’s that fall is just around the corner. That means the weather should be cooling off (hopefully), football is starting (Go Packers) and Dobson Ranch is kicking off our upcoming fall events. We will start the season right with our 11th Annual Golf Tournament. Are there any golfers out there? The Golf Tournament event is Saturday, October 3rd at Dobson Ranch Golf Course. Registration has started at La Casita Recreation Center. Please sign up if you are interested in playing. You can sign up individually or as a foursome. We also have our Outdoor Expo on Saturday, October 17th from 7 am-11 am. There will be a kids fishing tournament, fun and prizes. Garage Sale, Clean Up and Shred is on Saturday, October 10th. Before you know it school will be starting and your children and grandchildren will be looking for things to do during fall break. We are offering a Fall Break Camp for ages 6-12 year olds Monday-Friday October 12-16th at Saratoga Recreation Center. Lastly, this is just a reminder our summer hours will end on Labor Day, September 7th. Fall facility hours for Saratoga and Los Altos will be 8 am-7 pm Monday –Saturday and 10 am-5 pm on Sunday. Chip & Charge Baby!

The chip and charge is a long lost and forgotten art form these days. The reason for the decline in this tactic is simple: The serves are just too big on the pro tour to be able to do it effectively. But for club players, weekend warriors and doubles league specialists, this tool could prove invaluable, especially against your opponent’s softer, second serve.

Chipping and charging in doubles, while the server also comes to the net, can be easily done, but the chip I found is better if it’s a low, medium paced ball (think 70% strength) at the server’s feet forcing them to hit up (below height of the net) on their first volley, or half volley. This will not only give you more time to come to the net and cover the court, but should give you an easier time hitting your first volley, putting you in an offensive, more aggressive position with a higher angle over the net. By placing the chip return at the server’s feet, you, or your partner, should be in a great position to hit your first volley nice and high at your shoulders, like a nectar, just waiting to be plucked from a tree!

Remember, with both players coming in the server has the advantage because they are always one shot ahead, dictating the point so you have to neutralize that advantage by hitting an effective chip shot. To me an effective chip shot is hit with slice, but not too much slice, you don’t want to “float” the ball and give the server the time to stop, step back, take the ball on a high bounce and nail it at you, or pound it down the middle. Yes, your chip shot needs to have some backspin, but not too much, essentially it’s more flat than it is “slicey” (just made that word up).

Make sure your chip shot has some pace to it (remember 70% strength) and try your best to make the server bend down to hit the shot back, try to get it down below their waist as a rule (the ultimate chip shot would be below your opponents knees).

The chip & charge isn’t easy by no means, but with the right instruction, and a little repetition, anyone can learn it. Take a lesson or two and you will see for yourself how effective this ancient tennis strategy can be, especially in doubles, even today where the grass courts at Wimbledon are no longer worn out near the net, like they used to be in the days of Johnny Mac and Borris Becker.

Dobson Ranch Retirees Club

In the last article, I talked about sun exposure and using plenty of sunscreen.

This week, I say I am already tired of the heat. I hope you are all coping better than I am. I know Jack and Carol Armstrong are joy riding around in Canada visiting friends. Jack says it is even pretty hot up there and very dry causing lots of issues with forest fires. Even though they are on the move all the time, Jack still has time to keep us informed about retiree activities. Thank you Jack for all you do.

The Men’s Breakfast Group is still going strong with a turnout of 8 members in July. Nothing special at the breakfast, just lots of small talk and fun stories.

We have some very interesting members with lots of good stories. I can’t mention any here, not because they are inappropriate, but because I can’t remember them. One downside of advancing age.

I just finished watching the end of The Open at St Andrews. It was another thrilling ending with 3 golfers tied and a short playoff. I’m sorry to say Jordan Speith didn’t quite make the playoff by one stroke, so no third crown. He is turing out to be someone to watch now and in the future. Zack Johnson, another American, won, and is and also someone to watch. There have been more ties at the end of tournaments this year than I can ever remember. Makes for exciting watching.

I know we have a few Green Bay fans here and I hope you had a chance to watch Brett Favre‘s induction into the Packer Hall of Fame. It was very interesting with lots of stories about his days in Green Bay. He loved to play practical jokes on players and coaches, but this time the tables were turned and they told stories about some of his antics. They held the ceremony in the stadium and all 67,000 tickets were sold in 1 1/2 hours. He is still beloved in Green Bay even though he went to Minnesota for a short time. When he did this, our son, a big fan put a big black X with duct tape on the No. 4 on his Green Bay Jersey. By the way, they also retired his number (4) at the ceremony.

Lake temperatures are nearing their seasonal high over 80 degrees, and the fishing is still good. I don’t know if you recall something that I have said in this column a number of times. I said- “fish during the dawn or dusk hours, or at night- to maximize your success in the summertime.” I believe that this conventional wisdom still holds in the summertime months. But interestingly enough, over the last several weeks, the better bass bite has been in the middle of the day. I know this holds true for all of our lakes- at different times during the summer. I was working plastic baits either texas-rigged or dropshot or shakey head in deeper water- slowly. And during various mid-day windows, the bite was really good. We have also been catching both bass and catfish when using reaction baits like crankbaits. The topwater bite in early morning or evening is hit or miss- usually miss. I don’t really understand why this bite is not better on our shallow lakes. Maybe it is just that- because our lakes are shallow and the bass are more wary, and orient better to mid-depth or bottom bouncing baits.

Release the fish quickly back into the lake after your catch. The hot temperatures cause quick stress on the fish. Happy fishing to all.

Heat Stroke Don’ts for Your Pets

With temperatures about to hit triple digits on a regular basis, the City of Mesa is working with nonprofit agencies and businesses to provide supplies of water to the homeless and unsheltered. The eighth annual Mesa Hydration Donation Campaign is underway. Residents are asked to donate water at various drop-off locations throughout the City. The Drop-off locations closest to Dobson Ranch are:

Do not use ice water to cool your pet.

Very cold water causes tightening of the blood vessels which will actually hinder the cooling process. Also, dropping a temperature too quickly can actually send a pet in to hypothermia.

Do not assume everything is fine!

Heat stroke is not something to “wait and see” what happens. Liver, kidneys, brain, and other organs are all affected by the elevated body temperature elevation. An evaluation with a Veterinarian is immediately needed as heat stroke can be fatal.

Do not allow pet to run around if you suspect heat stroke. Pet must stay calm and restrict all activity until the danger of heat stroke has passed.

Do not force feed water to pet if he cannot drink on his own. Do not give human sports drinks to your pet either. Stress from force feeding and sugar from the sports drinks can cause imbalances with blood sugar.

DO take heat stroke seriously. Even if you think your pet is responding well, it is imperative that you contact a Veterinarian. Internal organ damage is a very serious and deadly side effect of heat stroke and undiagnosed complications can be fatal to your furbaby.

After paying $80 for the whole year, a person can sign up for as many classes as their schedule will allow. The only additional costs would be for materials that would be needed for art classes. Classes meet on the three MCC campuses (Southern Ave. & Dobson Rd., Downtown Mesa at 145 N. Centennial Way, and Red Mountain at McKellips Rd. & Power Rd.), East Valley Adult Resource Centers at 247 N. McDonald St. & at 7550 E. Adobe Rd., and many other locations.

Football fans rejoice - the game season is upon us and Dobson High’s football schedule has been announced.

From coaching changes to division placement realignments creating a whole new list of opponents this season, our local Dobson High School football program has undergone some significant changes in recent years. Changes are for the better.

This year, Dobson’s Varsity Football team has over 20 returning Seniors who were all part of the first Freshman Academy in 2012 and a strong line up of experienced Juniors along with them. With that experience and coming off the momentum of last year’s season, Dobson Football is poised to continue their positive movement forward and welcomes all Dobson Ranch residents to cheer for their wins this year under the Friday night lights. 12th Annual Healing Field Mill Ave and Salado Parkway September 11, 2015 Rounding out a dozen years, the Tempe Exchange Club will host their 12th Annual Healing Field flag display for the residents of the greater Phoenix area. Posted at Mill Avenue and Salado Parkway, this stirring formation of 3,000 U.S. flags will once again honor the victims of the September 11th terrorist attacks. Visitors are invited to walk through the ordered rows of flags posted in solemn tribute at Tempe Beach Park from the 10th to the 15th of September.

Visiting the field is an experience never to be forgotten, and each year the event offers many opportunities for sponsors, volunteers and visitors to experience an indescribable tribute.
