I was able to attend the Dobson Ranch “Howlin Good Halloween” event and I decided to go as my dad, the Executive Director. I got to meet many of your kids and you too. Thank you for saying hi to me and my family. For a moment, I felt like I was my dad and that there was a lot to do…make sure we had the movie, prizes for the best costume and pumpkin, food trucks, games, bounce houses and of course candy. There’s a lot of planning for such a great event. It seemed a little stressful, but my dad stated that Jesse, Recreation Director, had it all under control. He and his staff must of, because when I spoke with some of the kids, they stated that they were having so much fun.

I walked the pathway, as many of you did and got to meet the vendors and volunteers that passed out the candy. It was great to chat with them for a while. Some of the vendors and volunteers dressed up. Thank you all for passing out candy to all my new friends, my brother and I. There were many great costumes.

One family theme was from Batman. The parents were dressed as the villains and the kids as super heroes. Just like the event, many of you planned the kid’s costumes, and they were great to see. My dad tells me that Joanna will post some of the photos on another page. I hope that you will check them out.

The next day I attended the “Kid’s Pickleball Social.”

Eighteen of us were there to learn about this growing sport. It was awesome that Coach Doug taught us how to play. Doug also asked me to help him teach the smaller kids. My brother and I had a great time. I hope that there will be another pickleball social that my brother and I can attend with your kids.

My brother and I are getting excited for the upcoming events, Winter Wonderland and Santa’s breakfast. Last year my brother and I played in the snow with your kids. It was so cold. Later that day we enjoyed the lighted boat parade and carolers. Hot cocoa and popcorn were handed out. We were able to tour the lake on the Dobson boat. It was worth the wait. We have not gone to the Santa’s breakfast, but hope we can this year. My dad tells me that the Retirees Club prepares a pancake breakfast.

I really enjoy pancakes, yum. Dad tells me that Santa will be there, I’m too old for Santa, but perhaps your kids aren’t. Face painting, family photos and activities are also part of the event.

I hope that we see you there.

Sitting around the dinner table my dad was sharing that the Board approved the 2016 budget. I asked what that meant and he stated that there will be no increase to the assessment.

That’s great! Not sure what an assessment is?? He also spoke about reserves expenses and how the Association will be doing renovations to some of the tennis and pickleball courts.

Joanna tells me that my dad’s articles about the assessment is on page 4, for the court renovations on page 15, for board elections page 6, and the website page 2.

Board Highlights

I called the October 15, 2015 Dobson Ranch Homeowners Association Board of Directors meeting to order at 7:00 pm. It was an exceptional meeting, here’s a recap…

I gave the President’s Report, reporting that this month the staff attended a public meeting regarding the Dobson Ranch Park. They were informed that the 14 acre park will be designed with ADA compliant and all-inclusive play equipment. The City of Mesa construction budget is about $500,000. Plans to start the project will be in the spring of 2016. A little history about the park…Dobson Park was built in 1981 and the last city update to the park was in 1998, almost 20 years ago. I am excited that the city is investing in this park central to Dobson Ranch. The tennis and pickleball court projects at Los Altos, Saratoga, Brookegde and Laguna are in process. Staff has had several meetings with the contractor and they are getting ready to sign a contract. Our landscaping staff has also been busy this month. They started to over seed for winter rye grass at all the parks except for Frisbee Park by Lake 2. Frisbee Park is being sprayed to kill weeds and clover. The clover was taking over and killing the grass. Next year the grass should look GREAT there!

Many committees have been busy this month, including the one I chair. The Marketing Committee, with the assistance of staff, launched the new Dobson Ranch Website and updated the Communication Policy. The Ad Hoc Committee and staff has been working on Bylaws, Architectural Guidelines and creating Common Area Guidelines. The Master Planning Committee and staff has been working on reserves and a 5 year plan. The Recreation Committee and staff are gearing up for the fall / winter events.

Executive Director, David Jones gave his Director’s Report and spoke regarding the piano being donated to “Play Me I’m Yours”; staff attending the lighting of the pocket parks at Southern and Alma School, what a nice improvement for this area; algae in our lakes, due to our recent extreme temperature changes, is being addressed; and the courts project is progressing.

The following business items were voted on and approved: • 2016 Budget with no increase or decrease to the 2015 assessment • Residents to be charged for Tai Chi classes beginning in 2016 • Saratoga flooring to be replaced • Perimeter wall funding to be removed from the Reserves Lake One shelving will be on the November meeting agenda.

The meeting adjourned at 9:06pm.

I certainly enjoyed attending the Fall events and festivities at Dobson Ranch and I hope you did too! It’s time now to relax, be with family and friends, gobble up some turkey dinners, and root for your favorite football team before our winter lineup of events begin. There will be snow in Mesa at our Winter Wonderland on December 5th.

The lake will become enchanted with two lighted boat parades… one on December 5th and the second on December 12th. Breakfast with Santa on December 12th will delight everyone young and old…. But sign up quick as this event always sells out! These great activities are featured in the recreation section of this issue and on our website, dobsonranchhoa.com.

This is a wonderful time of year to be generous to those less fortunate. If you have a few canned food items in your pantry that you would like to donate, please bring them to La Casita, 2719 S Reyes, for the canned food drive to benefit Paz de Cristo. Boxes will be available at the Winter Wonderland event and Breakfast with Santa also. La Casita is a drop off location for Vice Mayor Dennis Kavanaugh’s toy drive to benefit Cardon Children’s Medical Center. Toys may be dropped off through December 10th.

December will be here before you know it and I can’t wait to put on my warm snuggly sweater and fuzzy boots and see you at the next great Dobson Ranch event!

I hope that many of you traveled to the Dobson Ranch website. As you can see, it is a nice upgrade from the last website. Some of you have been kind enough to let us know that there might be issues with the site. What we found out is that some of the viewers are using an older version of Microsoft (MS) Internet Explorer (IE). For optimum results, the best internet browser to use is the most current one, IE 11, Microsoft Edge with Cortana (the newest IE) or Google Chrome.

Staff researched browsers that could be used with the website and found out that MS will no longer be supporting certain IE browsers. We thought that you should know this information. If you like your current IE and want to continue to use it, check out your current browser lifecycle at https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/gp/microsoft-internet-explorer. So what does it mean when MS will not support certain versions? MS states, “The newest Internet Explorer offers improved security, increased performance, better backward compatibility, and support for the modern technologies that power today’s websites and services. Microsoft encourages customers to upgrade and stay up-to-date on the latest browser for a faster, more secure browsing experience.”

Things to Know Board Meeting Want to know what is going on in the Association, meet the Board members, sign up for a committee, get to know your Ranch neighbors or voice an opinion? You can do all that at Dobson Ranch Board of Directors meetings. Meetings are held on Thursdays at 7 pm at La Casita in the Grande room. The next dates are November 19 and December 17. All members are encouraged to attend.

Holiday Hours Thursday, November 26 Administration and Recreation will be closed for the Thanksgiving Holiday. Friday, November 27 Administration will be closed and all Recreation facilities will be open from 10 am – 6 pm.

SRP Dry-up The SRP lake dry-up will begin November 20 and last until mid January. During this time maintenance is performed on the lake shelves.

2016 Assessments

Your Neighborhood

Dear Dobson Ranch Homeowner: In a continued effort to maintain an affordable assessment while preserving our maturing community, the Board of Directors has voted to not increase the 2016 Assessments. Therefore; the rates will remain at, $138.60 quarterly, $277.20 semi-annually, and $554.40 annually.

Assessments are due on the first day of each quarter; January, April, July, and October. A late fee of $30 will be charged quarterly if your payment is not received by the 20th day of the first month of each quarter.

Delinquent interest will accrue on any unpaid balance.

As a reminder, there are several options for paying your assessments: 1. Automatic monthly payments can be made through ACH (auto debit to your checking account). Please complete the form that can be found in the “Documents & Forms” tab on our website (www.dobsonranchhoa.com) and return it to the administration office along with a voided check. ACH payments are run on the 5th of each month. The payment will continue to be drafted from your account until you give the Association notice to cancel the ACH. Please note that accounts on ACH will not receive future payment coupons. Notice of any assessment change will be published in the current year October or November issue of the Association’s official publication, the Ranchers’ Round Up. 2. Annual, Semi-Annual, or Quarterly payments can be made by check, cash, debit or credit card. Check payments may be mailed to or dropped off at the Association office. Coupons need to accompany mailed or dropped payments. Cash, debit or credit card payments are accepted in the Association office. Please note that debit or credit card payments cannot be accepted over the phone. Monthly payment is not an option through the mail or drop off.

3. Automatic monthly payments can be made at the Dobson Association website (www.dobsonranchhoa.com) using your bank card, credit card or e-check. Scroll down and click on the “Assessment Payment Portal”, set up a New User Account or login if you are a returning user , click on Menu, click on Auto Pay, and enter your information. Once you set up the auto pay, the payment will continue to be processed until you stop the payment or make changes. If you are setup on recurring payments through the Washington Federal/Rentpayment site, please be sure that your payments are set to continue through 2016.

4. You may also send in recurring payments if using automatic bill pay.

You will have to set up the payment through the bill pay program with your bank. Please reference your account number and property address to ensure proper credit to your account.

Groundwater Management

Do I Have What It Takes?

It took until June 12, 1980, for Arizona to decide it was not ok for farmers, cities, developers, and businesses to pump as much groundwater as they wanted, whenever and wherever they needed it. By that time, water users in Maricopa County were depleting 30 times the amount of groundwater that was naturally replenished through rain and snow each year.

The 1980 Arizona Groundwater Management Act slowed this relentless mining of groundwater in the state’s most heavily-populated areas, called Active Management Areas or AMAs. The Act continues to be the nation’s most forward-thinking law for managing groundwater and is a major reason why Arizona has reduced water consumption despite rapid population growth.

This is the legacy that the previous generation left us to manage.

But the biggest problem with pumping groundwater is that it is unsustainable. Naturallyoccurring groundwater accumulated slowly over past geologic ages, one drop at a time. Pumping this precious resource means it will not be there in the future; our future - our children’s future.

The goal of the landmark Groundwater Management Act is to achieve “safe-yield,” meaning that no more groundwater is pumped than is replenished annually. That is a lesson the people of California are just now learning.

Yes, we get our water from the dams built on the Salt River, but we also draw from groundwater when the Salt River cannot meet all the demand. That makes conservation essential and it is working; 1998 was the peak demand year for water in the Valley of the Sun. Since then demand has dropped, because we conserved water. And that savings has been left in the ground for what we are now facing; years of low surface run-off from very little winter snow and rain – drought in California if you will.

We are doing our part to conserve water. On our common areas, water is doled out only where needed and then just the amount needed by our new smart controllers. Many homeowners are also using smart controllers to use only the essential amount of water needed by their landscape. Low-flow toilets are becoming more common as homes are refurbished or dual-flow devices are used to replace old equipment. How many low-flow shower heads have been installed? Yes, the residents of Dobson Ranch are sharing the water conservation load to protect the future by making the investment to conserve water.

We celebrate the 35th anniversary of the Groundwater Management Act, but there is work yet to be done. In the coming weeks and months, groundwater issues and potential solutions will be in the news. Stay informed and help make water abundant to those who use water wisely.

Have a plan to make the Ranch a better place to live? Then consider running as a candidate for the 2016 Dobson Ranch board of directors.

If you’re considering running for the board, we ask that you take a few moments to ask yourself the following three questions: Do I have the time?

As a board member, you will need to devote at least several hours of your time each month to association business. During special projects, you may need to spend a little extra time on association business. Some board members may also spend a little more time than others if they work with a committee.

Can I make tough decisions when it’s required?

The primary role of the board is to conduct the business of the association. This doesn’t just mean approving the budget, but also developing and enforcing policies. Board members are required to step outside their immediate circle of family and neighbors and make decisions based on the greater good of the community.

Can I do all this and have fun, too?

It isn’t all about policies and tough decisions. Our community is only as good as we make it, and establishing and maintaining a sense of community is a part of a board member’s responsibility. Planning and attending functions such as our boat parade and being a presence in the community are as important as any policy decisions you may make.

Being a board member can be frustrating at times, but it may also be one of the most rewarding ways you’ll find to volunteer your time.

I am happy to announce that our Fall Break Camp was a success. A special thank you to Melody and Gracie for working the camp and making it enjoyable for the kids, you guys did a great job. The weather is finally starting to cool off and December is right around the corner. We have some exciting programs to end the year.

The Winter Wonderland program is on December 5th at Saratoga Recreation Center. Kid activities from 1:30-3:30pm including snow, crafts, and games. Evening activities are 6:30-8:30pm and include hot cocoa and cookies, carols and a lighted boat parade. Breakfast with Santa is on December 12th at La Casita Recreation Center. Tickets are on sale now for the event and space is limited. Please come out and support our community.

Fishing licenses and boat permits for 2016 will be going on sale December 1st. Prices will remain the same this year. Fishing Licenses will be $13 for individuals (seven years of age and older) and $30 for a family of four. Boat permits are $15 for non-motorized and $35 for motorized watercrafts. Stop by La Casita to purchase your licenses or permits.

Starting January 1st some of the rental rates have changed. Please contact the Recreation office at 480-831-7464 for more details.

How about having your children make some sweet gifts of thankfulness this season? Family, friends, teachers, neighbors all need to hear why you are thankful for them. We made a simple handprint turkey that showcases what the child is thankful for. Take it a step further and make it specific to one person. Ex.: In the middle of the turkey write, “I’m Thankful for Grandma!” and then on each finger (feather) write what she does that makes it so.

Materials Needed: Thick paper Paint Markers Paintbrush Brush paint on the child’s hand to replica the photo’s hand. Then, simple wait for it to dry and add your details!

Dobson Ranch Pontoon Tour/Ride Information A one-time “complimentary� pontoon ride per property is available to residents in good standing. The tour fee is $35 per hour with a two hour maximum. Reservations are available through the Recreation Department and are subject to weather and availability.

Table and Chair Rentals Make your next at home event great with the convenience of renting tables and chairs right in your community. The Dobson Association not only rents out facilities for private rentals but renting of chairs and tables not held on a ranch facility are also available. We can accommodate a rental up to 140 metal framed folding chairs and 15 rectangle 6 foot by 3 foot tables. The resident must schedule to pick up and drop off the chairs and tables at La Casita Recreation Center.

A refundable security deposit of $50 is due in cash or credit card payment to hold your reservation. The rental cost per chair is $0.50 and $5 per table.

Reservations can be made through the Recreation Department at 480-8317464 and include a 14 day cancellation policy.

Private Instruction Private Tennis lessons are available for individual one on one instruction with the tennis professional. Please call La Casita at 480-831-7464 to schedule private lessons. The Dobson Ranch Tennis courts are for exclusive use of Dobson Ranch residents and of the Association tennis professional. Other professionals are not to teach classes, lessons or clinics on our Association courts at any time. To ensure the Ranch tennis program remains viable, Ranch residents should consult the Association Tennis pro for all tennis instruction. Tennis and Pickleball Court Renovations

Pickleball Clinic Eighteen kids were introduced to the sport of Pickleball by Coach Doug, and had a great time at the free clinic held on October 24. Watch for all the fantastic classes and events offered by the Dobson Ranch Recreation Department in each issue of the Ranchers’ Roundup.

The Board of Directors approved the renovations to Los Altos, Saratoga, Brookedge and Laguna courts at the September Board meeting. Construction has begun at Los Altos and Brookedge. At Los Altos the courts will be renovated with new lights, light timers, fencing, net post and court surfacing. Los Altos construction should be completed by December 15. Brookedge court asphalt playing surface will be replaced with a post tension slab, which will need 30 days to cure, fencing, resurfacing and one light pole replaced. Brookedge should be open by December 30. Saratoga courts will have temporary pickleball lines until Los Altos is completed. Saratoga will get new lighting, light timer and will be resurfaced for just tennis. Project should be completed mid-January. Laguna will be the last project scheduled. Laguna will have new lighting, light timer and surface area on the west side will be repaired. Laguna will be completed by the end of January. All time frames are based on clear days. Rain could delay the projects. We will keep you posted about the above locations should dates change. We appreciate your patience during the renovation process.

Dobson Ranch Recreation Employee of the Month Dobson Ranch Recreation would like to congratulate and recognize Kacie Blakely as our October Employee of the Month. Kacie has been a valuable member of the Recreation staff while also attending college. She displays tremendous initiative and is always willing to help out with extra tasks. Kacie does an excellent job of training our new staff and making them feel comfortable in their transition. She always has a smile on her face and we are very appreciative of all of her hard work. Congrats Kacie!

Dobson Ranch Garage Sale, Clean-up and Shred Dobson Ranch is a bit more clean and green after the recent clean-up on Saturday, October 10th. Residents bought and sold treasures at over 100 garage sales, 374 vehicles participated in the cleanup, and 26.64 tons of material were removed at the City of Mesa provided dumpsters and boxfuls of documents were shredded. The next clean-up will be in March 19, 2016, so watch for details in upcoming issues of the Ranchers’ Roundup.

Boat and Fishing Information The weather is cooling off and it’s a perfect time for outdoor activities, like fishing and boating at one of the beautiful lakes at Dobson Ranch. Fishing licenses are required (catch and release only) and boat permits are required for all watercraft (size restrictions apply). 2016 licenses and permits will be going on sale December 1, so stop by La Casita at 2719 South Reyes to purchase them. Prices are the same as 2015. Boat Licenses are $35 per motorized boat (electric motors only) and $15 for non-motorized boats and a maximum of 3 permits. Fishing Licenses are $13 for an individual and $30 for a family (up to four). Children 7 years and up require a license. For more information please call the recreation department at 480-831-8314.

Recreation Happenings Fishing Tournament/Outdoor Expo Over 80 children along with their families and friends participated in this year’s Fishing Tournament and Outdoor Expo. The sunny Saturday morning in October was perfect for fishing! A fish tank was stocked with fish for the young fishermen while others fished in the lake. Several vendors were available with goods and services, dancers from Swim Kids entertained and Captain Bill gave pontoon boat rides.

The fish were hungry which added excitement to the patient fishers!

Thanks to the Dobson Ranch Recreation Department and the Fish Club for another awesome event.

Halloween Spooktacular It was a Howling good night for over 1,000 goblins, ghouls, kids and adults at the recent Dobson Ranch Halloween Spooktacular. Thanks to the Dobson Ranch Recreation Department, the vendors, sponsors, volunteers, clubs and committees that helped make this a spectacular event! Yummy food was for sale by the Wandering Donkey and the Grilled Addiction, Captain James made some magical balloon shapes, free pictures were taken by Walgreen’s and Lakeshore Mortuary, and there were bounce houses and carnival games. Goodies bags were handed out as the excited trick or treaters made their way down the sidewalk collecting candy from 15 clubs, committees and vendors. There were scary, cute and original costumes represented in the costume contest sponsored by Dairy Queen. Even when darkness crept in the festivities continued with movie time in the park and the showing of Monsters University. This is an annual event and just one of the many reasons that makes Dobson Ranch the best place to live!

I would like to write about our Dobson Ranch Retirees’ Dinner Out activity in the following article along with the parameters for planning.

The Dobson Ranch Retirees enjoy an evening out dining at a local restaurant on the third Tuesday of every month. Since our dinner out attendance varies from summer months through the rest of the year our chosen places must be able to accommodate a group up to forty people. It is at this activity that we experience new places to dine, companionship of good friends, good excuse to treat ourselves and get out of the house.

Many times, I have been asked how we choose our restaurants to visit. The chosen restaurant must have space for our group, be able to issue separate checks, and have the ability to make a reservation at least 6 weeks in advance. Good Service and excellent tasting fare is required along with recommendations from members and/or personal experience. In the past four years, we have gone to Red Lobster, Olive Garden, Rigatonys, Sea Food Market, The Harp, The Old Spaghetti Factory, Big Fat Greek Wedding, Abuelos, O’Briens, Pier de’ Orleans, Midwestern Meat Market, Outback, and Beaver’s Choice to name only a few.

Sometime we will revisit a particularly welcoming establishment.

I have served as Chairperson for the past four years. It is a rewarding activity because everyone is very appreciative of my efforts. We plan to go to a local hotel for Christmas drinks and then dinner for our December outing.

Two of the poplar activities for the Retirees Club are the Ladies Luncheons on the 2nd Thursday of each month and the Men’s Breakfast at the Dobson Golf Course Clubhouse on the 2nd Monday of the month.

RETIREES SCHEDULE GENERAL MEETING The Retirees December General Meeting will be on Monday, December 7th at La Casita Recreation Center. Coffee at 9:30AM and meeting begins at 10AM. Program and special Christmas menu for lunch following the meeting. This meeting will also include a Christmas gift exchange for all members who bring a gift. All guests and prospective new members are always welcome.

BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING The Club’s Board of Directors will meet on Monday, November 16th at 9AM at La Casita. For all officers, activity leaders and committee chairs.

DINNER NIGHT OUT For the November Dinner Night Out, the Retirees will visit the Old Spaghetti Factory, located at the Chandler Mall. Plan on being there by 5:15PM. In December, Dinner Night out is Tuesday, December 15th at Zuni’s Restaurant at the Mesa Hilton Hotel. Meet at 5PM in the Atrium for a reception and then dinner at 6PM. Lucille Willgale is the Chairperson.

DAYTRIPPERS Here’s a fun way to start out the DAYTRIPPERS schedule this season! The DAYTRIPPERS will be heading EAST to the Mesa Market Place at Signal Butte & Baseline. (It’s like a giant flea market) The day is Friday, 11/20 and the group will meet at La Casita and car pool out there. It will be an early start, including breakfast...be sure to check the MESA REPUBLIC for a breakfast coupon which will get you breakfast for about $2.00.

HAPPY HOUR Wednesday, November 25th will be the HAPPY HOUR Day at the Elephant Bar, 3405 W Chandler Blvd, Chandler, AZ 85226. Meet at 4PM. MOVIE DAY No Movie Day in November because of the Thanksgiving Day conflict.

PICNICS The Club’s first picnic will be at Butcher Jones Day Use Area on Saguaro Lake on Monday, 11/16...Potluck. Plan on meeting at LaCasita by 10;15AM...we’ll carpool to the picnic area. Questions? Please call Kim at 480-839-3839.

GAME DAY Looking for something to do in the afternoon? On the first Thursday of each month the Retirees meet at LaCasita at 1PM for games and cards. For December, it’s the 3rd. Bring a lite snack to share and your own beverage. More information? Call Judie at 480-820-7371.

LADIES LUNCHEON In December we are going to Sheraton Mesa Hotel at Wrigglyville West 860 W Riverview at 11:30 on Thursday, December 10th.

HIKING The Retirees plan hikes on every Wednesday, meeting at La Casita at 8AM. The hikes are all easy to moderate and generally about four miles. The group car pools to various trail heads thru out the greater metro area. For more information contact Ed Eppley at 480-656-4530.

BICYCLE RIDES Bike riding is one of the biggest activities for the Club. There are two bike rides each week. On Tuesdays the FREE WHEELERS bike riders meet at 8AM at the Dobson Library for a 20 to 25 mile ride. Every Friday, the SLO SPOKES Riders meet at 9AM, also at the Dobson Library for a 10-12 mile ride. The rides are carefully planned out to avoid busy surface streets and utilize the many canal pathways and greenbelts thru out the Valley. The rides are social rides with a refreshment break about halfway into the ride. Arnie Chase is the Club’s bicycle leader and does a fantastic job in planning each ride and providing all the details of upcoming rides in his weekly email. Our next General Membership meeting will be Tuesday, November 17 at 7 pm. This will also be a Bunco night. This is always a fun night...cost $5.25...refreshments served too.

We wanted to applaud the efforts of the Dobson Ranch Fish Club led by Ric Hoks and the Dobson Ranch Association led by Bryan Bouk in promoting, organizing, and accomplishing the Kid’s Fishing Tournament on Saturday 10/ 17 on Lake 1. It was another grand event- with participation form over 80 children. Per Ric’s design, we went to a raffle system this year granting prizes through the event. It was nicely received. Also, we had three wonderful grand prizes contributed by Sportsman’s Warehouse, 1750 S. Greenfield Rd in Mesa.

Sportsmans Warehouse and their manager, Steve Ortiz, are big supporters of Dobson Ranch- so take some business to their wonderful store.

Fishing is getting better. With cooling waters, fish feeding ranges have lengthened and you can catch fish throughout the day. Reaction baits become more of a choice as fish activity levels are high. If you don’t get bit on reaction baits like crankbaits or topwater, slow down and move to plastic presentations. Practice catch and release, and have fun.

Make plans to attend the Tuesday, December 1 Garden Club meeting on holiday floral arrangements.

The meeting, which begins at 7:00 p. m. at La Casita, will feature simple arrangements that will add to holiday festivities.

A local East Valley florist will make arrangements during the meeting. She will share information on how to make inexpensive arrangements and will provide tips on keeping flowers fresh looking longer. The arrangements will be shared with attendees.

Kiwanis Club Forming at Dobson Ranch Kiwanis, a service organization, is celebrating 100 years of “Serving the Children” in 2015. Dobson High Key Club is a vibrant student service club yielding young leaders year after year. Whether it is university level, high school, middle schools or elementary schools, Kiwanis sponsors clubs for all youth to grow in leadership and community service.

Yes, there once was a Kiwanis club in Dobson Ranch. A new concept in Kiwanis is directed towards the Young Professional who wishes to give a little time and energy back to the community they so enjoy and live or work within. A Kiwanis club could serve many purposes for Dobson Ranch residents and business people.

It’s almost like an extended family who pool their idea resources, trade friendships, identify with youth of the community and provide unique service where needed.

Hazardous Waste

In the Community

Mesa residents encouraged to take advantage of Household Hazardous Waste Collection by bringing old cans of paint, batteries, pesticides, electronics, tires, prescription drugs and other household hazardous waste materials to City sponsored collection events. The next event will be Saturday, December 5, 2015 from 8 a.m.-Noon at the City of Mesa Center Street Facility, located at 2412 N. Center St. Mesa, AZ 85201.

Household hazardous waste will only be accepted during the event dates and times and residents are asked to remain in their vehicles and refrain from smoking at all times while at the collection site. Waste should be sealed in its original container if possible, and unmarked containers should be labeled if the contents are known.

Industrial waste, radioactive material, explosives, large truck tires and trash will not be accepted. Collected materials will either be recycled, reused or disposed of in an environmentally responsible manner.

Utility Bill Payment Offered Through Kiosks at Mesa Libraries City of Mesa utility bill customers are now able to pay bills via kiosks within the Main, Dobson and Red Mountain branch libraries and at 300 participating Circle K’s throughout Arizona.

The Circle K kiosks offer a 24-hour, 7 day a week option for customers to pay their utility bill, and all kiosks offer a payment of other bills such as SRP, Cox and Cricket.

All kiosks are located indoors for convenience and safety. Payments post within minutes and a receipt is printed for customers. City of Mesa payments are cash only and are charged a $2 usage fee.

Fiesta District Micro Parks Light Up On Tuesday, October 13, the City of Mesa held a lighting ceremony at one of the Fiesta District micro parks constructed along Southern Avenue in the Fiesta District to celebrate completion of the project to encourage a walking and cycling friendly environment in Fiesta District.

Dobson Ranch Park to Undergo Renovation The Dobson Ranch Park located at 2359 S. Dobson Road will soon undergo a major renovation. The main components of the design will include the replacement of the play structures, correcting sidewalk accessibility issues within the existing restroom, adding fall protection at portions of the existing retaining walls, adding shade with shade canopies and/or trees, replacement of site furniture and landscape improvements.

The park sits on 14 acres and the new design will be ADA compliant and all-inclusive play.

Inclusive playgrounds include equipment that are accessible to the hearing and seeing impaired, autistic, wheelchair bound and other disabilities. The construction budget is about $500,000 and will begin in the spring 2016. The park was built in 1981 and the last time the City installed equipment was 1998.

Merry Main Street Returning to Downtown Mesa City Council has given direction to bring back Merry Main Street, which was once the largest holiday celebration in the east valley attracting more than 35,000 people to downtown Mesa.

The new Merry Main Street is scheduled to be held Nov. 27 through Jan. 3 and the winter holiday festival promises to be bigger and better than ever.

Among the proposed activities are an ice skating rink, community performances at the Mesa Arts Center, a downtown Main Street market place, food truck forest and a holiday tree lighting.

The original Merry Main Street began in 1998 as a winter holiday festival. In 2005, the City was forced to end the annual event due to budget challenges and businesses unable to bear the financial burden.

The City of Mesa; Mesa Arts Center; Mesa Parks, Recreation and Commercial Facilities and Downtown Mesa Association are partnering to plan Merry Main Street.
