Where has the time gone? I can’t believe that its already October; 2016 has been a busy year for the Association staff and volunteers.

Recreation We’ve had 20 events since January and there are four more scheduled before the end of the year. Recreation staff and the Fishing Club have just completed another year of the Outdoor Expo. It’s great to see the kids catch their own fish. Many great prizes were donated and given away to lucky winners. I know that at least two kids are enjoying new bikes. Jesse Wright, Recreation Director, and staff are preparing for the Halloween Spooktacular. This is a great event for all ages. At the event we will have local vendors, Community Clubs, Committees, Staff and Board of Directors passing out candy. I hope to see you out there. On November 19, I hope that you and yours will attend the Fall Festival. We will have our 3rd annual chili cook-off competition. There is still time for you to sign up and make your famous chili.

Committees There have been several committee meetings with Architectural, Budget and Finance, Marketing, Master Planning, Recreation, Water Management and Ad Hoc Governing Documents. The volunteers on these committees have worked hard this year. Budget and Finance Committee, along with the Board of Directors, approved the 2017 Association budget with another year of no increase to the assessment. Master Planning Committee has been looking towards the future; the committee and the Board of Directors approved new signage, benches, and lighting all with a Dobson Ranch design. The committee is looking at replacing the key entries with fob or cell phone access. Water Management Committee has recommended ideas to save water and other utilities. Marketing Committee has been active in the Mesa community. The committee has assisted with marketing Dobson Ranch as a premiere Association in Mesa, attending city meetings and community events.

Recreation Committee has been active with all the events they are planning for 2017. The Ad Hoc Governing Document Committee reviewed many policies and recommended changes to the Board of Directors. All the new policies are listed on the DobsonRanch.com website.

Board of Directors The Board of Directors have been busy as well, reviewing and approving all of the items listed above plus the many projects that have been completed this year. The courts at Los Altos, Saratoga, Brookedge, and Laguna have had new lights added, surfaces repaired or replaced, repaired or replaced fencing and added windscreens. At the Saratoga meeting room, the carpet was removed and replaced with a vinyl flooring. Replenished landscape granite in common areas. Resurfaced the roof at the maintenance yard. Replaced the pool chlorinators. Painted Saratoga and Los Altos buildings. Repaired or replaced block walls.

The first item of business was my President’s Report…

Tour de Bird is coming up on Saturday November 5, from 9 am to 4 pm. Thank you to Donna Chapman who proposed using the Association’s xeriscape garden on Kiowa as a stop on the tour; we are pleased to be on the tour. The event is sponsored by the Desert Rivers Audubon Society. Nine habitats will be available for viewing. For more information, please see page 7 in this edition of the Ranchers Roundup.

September 10 was Vice Mayors Kavanaugh’s Pancake Breakfast at Fire Station 210 located on 24th Street, north of Baseline. The Mesa Fire Department Bagpipe Honor Guard had an excellent performance. Dobson Ranch was present at the event. There was a large turnout including Dobson Ranch homeowners and several Board members. Vice Mayor Kavanaugh thanked Dobson Ranch for its support.

Under “Unfinished Business” the Board reviewed and adopted the proposed Marketing Committee Charter as well as a charter template for all Committees to utilize.

Next item on the agenda was New Business and the 2017 budget. After extensive consideration the proposed 2017 budget, with minor amendments, was adopted with a 0% increase to assessments. $250,000 will be transferred to the Reserve Fund, and $250,000 will be transferred to the Capital Fund.

Please join us for the next Board of Directors meeting Thursday, October 20 at 7 pm in the La Casita Grande Room.

In fun Association news, October 21 at 5:30 pm is the Association’s annual Halloween Spooktacular…this always proves to be an enjoyable evening. Stop by and say hi and visit the Board of Directors and staff at their table where they will be handing out candy. We look forward to seeing you there!

Fall is officially here. We don’t quite have turning leaves… but there is pumpkin flavored everything, football, caramel apples, cooler weather, candy corn and decorations! To accompany all this autumnal festiveness in the air, there are two events happening in Dobson Ranch that you won’t want to miss.

The Halloween Spooktacular on October 21st brings out the scariest, cutest and most unique gathering of costumes you have ever seen. Bring your family, friends and all the kids for an evening that will include: food trucks, a costume contest, games, inflatables, pumpkin parade, candy and a movie to close out the night. It all starts at 5:30, so mark your calendars! While you have those calendars out be sure to save the date for Saturday, November 19 from Noon to 3 pm, as Laguna Park hosts the Dobson Ranch Fall Festival. There will be a lot packed into those three hours: live music, food trucks, vendors, a beer garden, pontoon rides, games, contests and the popular chili cook-off! Look for all the details in the Recreation section of this Ranchers’ Roundup and also on the events calendar at dobsonranch.com. Happy fall y’all!

Things to Know Board Meeting Want to know what is going on in the Association, meet the Board members, sign up for a committee, get to know your Ranch neighbors or voice an opinion? You can do all that at Dobson Association Board of Directors meetings. Meetings are held on the third Thursday at 7 pm at La Casita in the Grande room. The next dates are October 20 and November 17. Holiday Hours Administration and Recreation will be closed on Friday, November 11, 2016.

Splash Pad Closing Come out and enjoy the splash pad before it closes for the season on Saturday, November 5th.

SRP Dry-up The SRP dry-up is scheduled to begin Nov. 18, 2016. With work planned for Lake 1, the SRP draw will not be restarted until February 2017.

Board of Directors Adopt Amended Documents Amended versions of the Residential Architectural Guidelines and the Bylaws were adopted by the Dobson Association Board of Directors, on March 17, 2016. 2017 Assessments

Your Neighborhood

In a continued effort to maintain an affordable assessment while preserving our maturing community, the Board of Directors has voted to not increase the 2017 Assessments. Therefore; the rates will remain at, $138.60 quarterly, $277.20 semi-annually, and $554.40 annually.

Assessments are due on the first day of each quarter; January, April, July, and October. A late fee of $30 will be charged quarterly if your payment is not received by the 20th day of the first month of each quarter. Delinquent interest will accrue on any unpaid balance.

As a reminder, there are several options for paying your assessments: 1. Automatic monthly payments can be made through ACH (auto debit to your checking account). Forms may be found on dobsonranch.com or picked up at the office. ACH payments are run on the 5th of each month. The payment will continue to be drafted from your account until you give the Association notice to cancel the ACH. 2. Annual, Semi-Annual, or Quarterly payments can be made by check, cash, debit or credit card. Check payments may be mailed to or dropped off at the Association office. Please note that debit or credit card payments cannot be accepted over the phone. Monthly payment is not an option through the mail or drop off.

3. Automatic monthly payments can be made at the Dobson Association website (www.dobsonranch.com) using your bank card, credit card or e-check. Scroll down and click on the green “Assessment Payment Portal”, set up a New User Account or login if you are a returning user. Once you set up the auto pay, the payment will continue to be processed until you stop the payment or make changes.

4. You may also send in recurring payments if using automatic bill pay. Set up the payment through the bill pay program with your bank. Please reference your account number and property address to ensure proper credit to your account.

2017 Association Board of Directors Election to Utilize Online Voting The Dobson Association 2017 Board of Directors election will utilize online voting. A postcard will be sent to homeowners with all the details at the end of February, 2017. More information will be included in future Ranchers’ Roundups.

Three positions will be open for a seat on the Board of Directors.

Voting helps to guide association policy and the future of your community. It is an important aspect of community living. Please vote and attend the 2017 Annual Meeting of the Members and Celebration.

Try Living a Day Without Water

Here’s a dare: spend a day without water. I’m sure I couldn’t. Even if I was willing to give up showering, brushing my teeth, flushing, washing my hands, doing laundry (who me?), using the dishwasher, watering the yard, or cleaning the house and car, it’s not enough. The tee shirt I just pulled on, the gas in my car, the beans for my coffee all take many gallons of water to produce.

Here is one of the more thoughtful national water awareness campaigns - The Value of Water Coalition’s “Imagine a Day Without Water”. The campaign’s goal is to help people understand where their water comes from and how important it is to maintain the infrastructure that delivers clean water to our community – and takes away wastewater.

Where does our water come from? The easy answer is from the City of Mesa water treatment plant. Back up two steps and the answer is the water stored behind the dams on the Salt River.

The storage capacity of Lake Roosevelt is huge, but so is our thirst. We can empty that lake in less than three years without trying. That can be stretched if we try less hard; that is where our conservation efforts are paying off. And those efforts are beginning to be noticed.

By some calculations, 60% of the water drawn from Lake Roosevelt is consumed by irrigation, industry and by agriculture activities. The rest is used in our homes to hydrate us, feed us, wash our bodies, teeth and clothes and, of course, pamper our pets. Much of that water goes down the drain, but it is not lost. After treatment, a lot of that reclaimed water goes to the Palo Verdi power plant to be used in the generation of the electricity used in our homes. Yes, some of that power goes west, but the return on investment really pays for the plant.

Some of the water from Lake Roosevelt goes for recreation, like the Fall Expo held this past October 1st at the Los Altos Recreation Center. It was fun to dip a line in the water, or more interestingly, watch a youngster dip a line. The anticipation on a child’s face of catching a fish can bring back memories so long buried.

Keep up the effort, we are getting there. Remember, water makes living in the desert possible - make the best of it.

BOD Candidacy Do you have time to volunteer and be a servant leader for Dobson Ranch? Are you willing to better the community and offer help when needed? Then consider running as a candidate for the Dobson Ranch Board of Directors. If you’re considering running for the board, we ask that you take a few moments to ask yourself the following three questions: Do I have the time?

As a board member, you will need to devote at least several hours of your time each month to Association business. During special projects, you may need to spend a little extra time on association business. Some board members may also spend a little more time than others if they work with a committee.

Can I make tough decisions when it’s required?

The primary role of the Board is to conduct the business of the Association. This doesn’t just mean approving the budget, but also developing and enforcing policies. Board members are required to step outside their immediate circle of family and neighbors and make decisions based on the greater good of the community.

Can I do all this and have fun, too?

It isn’t all about policies and tough decisions. Our community is only as good as we make it, and establishing and maintaining a sense of community is a part of a board member’s responsibility. Planning and attending functions and being a presence in the community are as important as any policy decisions you may make.

Being a board member can be frustrating at times, but it may also be one of the most rewarding ways you’ll find to volunteer your time.

What’s Happening in Dobson Ranch?

There is more than one way to find out what is happening in Dobson Ranch. First of all… it’s right in your hand…. the Ranchers’ Roundup is the official publication of the Dobson Association. It’s delivered to your homes every month. We realize that the Roundup may adorn your coffee table or even be recycled, so there are other alternatives to keep you up to date on Dobson Ranch activities and events.

The Association has an informative and useful website, dobsonranch. com, which contains a great Events Calendar. The calendar can be accessed from the home page under Upcoming Events on the side bar or under the Amenities and Activities tab at the top of the Home page. Current and future classes, activities and events can be viewed along with all the details. The Events Calendar can be added to your Google, Outlook and Apple calendars also, so you will always be up to date!

Tour de Bird Features Two Dobson Ranch Locations

Interested in birds? Interested in gardens? Interested in learning how to attract birds to your garden? If so, plan to attend the Tour de Bird event, sponsored by Desert Rivers Audubon organization, on Saturday, November 5. Nine habitats will be available for viewing from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Featured are two Dobson Ranch locations, a private residence and a common area xeriscape garden.

Tickets are available through www.desertriversaudubon.org. for $10 in advance (with a $1 for mailing if bought on the website) or $15 on the day of the event.

Tickets are also available at the Wild Birds Unlimited store on Baseline and Gilbert roads and at any Desert Rivers event.

Ticket booklets include directions to the habitats and a map and some descriptions.

Looking for an outing for a fall day? The Tour de Bird is the event!

Overseeding to Begin in October

If you are new to the Ranch community, you may have noticed that the landscape crew is mowing the common area lawns right down to the ground. This is the first step in getting ready to plant a winter lawn. Since the Bermuda grass and hybrid lawns planted in Valley residences, businesses and golf courses die back in the winter, we are able to have beautiful green lawns to enjoy during our mild winters if we overseed with Perennial Ryegrass. Usually during the first two weeks of October when night time temperatures are steadily below 65 degrees, rye grass seed will germinate and flourish.

At our heavy traffic areas, such as, Laguna Park we will also aerate before seeding. This involves running a machine over the area that makes holes in the soil and allows air to penetrate and loosen the soil. We will also pull a weighted roller over the seed bed to make sure the seed has contact with the soil for maximum germination. This year we will be overseeding all the common lawn areas except Lake 3 Mini Park and the retention basins near Lindner and Playa. In these areas we plan to apply a preventative weed control which prevents weed seeds from germinating which, in turn, will provide a better Bermuda lawn next summer.

Thank you to all who participated in the 2016 Dobson Ranch Golf Tournament. Congratulations to Wes Verwoert, Nate Verwoert, Chris Schoop, and Spencer James for taking 1st place. The golf event was a great success again this year. The Fishing Tournament and Outdoor Expo at Los Altos was also a success. I want to send a special thanks to the fishing club for helping run this great event. Our Halloween event is coming up on Friday, October 21st. This event includes fun for the whole family with carnival games, a pumpkin parade and movie (Goosebumps) in the park. Down Under Foods and Taste of New Mexico food trucks will be serving great meals this year. Come enjoy all that we have to offer and be a part of the “Howlin’ Good Halloween Night”. We hope to see you all at Laguna Park for some family fun. Lastly, Fall Festival is right around the corner on November 19th. The park celebration starts at 12 pm at Laguna Park. We are still looking for Chili Cook-off Contestants and vendors for the festival. We will be having delicious food from local food truck The Panini People and our Retirees club will be selling Brats and hotdogs.

There will also be bounce houses, carnival games, beer tasting from Sleepy Dog Brewery, the Chili Cook-off, vendors, and live music from The Vintage. Come down and join us from 12-3 pm at Laguna Park on November 19, 2016. For additional information, please see the flyer in this section. Fall is finally here! We are so excited to stay outside and play longer. Preschool has been going strong since we started back up in August. We’ve done a lot of fun activities with community helpers and now for this month it’s all about fall, farms and of course, Halloween! We are visiting Mother Nature’s Farm this month were we can take a hay ride, feed some animals and decorate a pumpkin. In class we are using a lot of S.T.E.A.M. (science technology engineering art math) ideas with pumpkins, leaves and acorns. Below is a fun artsy way to make fall leaves come alive in your home! Don’t forget to stop by the preschool table during the Dobson Ranch Halloween Spooktacular and say hello!

Oil Pastel Leaves Materials needed: Oil pastels Large leaves Take a little walk to a park or look around the neighborhood for some big leaves. Most likely they will still be green. Grab your pastels and rub sideways. Not only will the leaves take on beautiful fall colors, it will highlight the veins in your leaf! This will open up a brand new conversation you can start about the life cycle of leaves and how they get water.

Dobson Ranch Pontoon Tour/Ride Info There will be no pontoon rides scheduled from December 1, 2016 through March 1, 2017.

A one-time “complimentary” pontoon ride per property is available to residents. Tour fee is $35 per hour with a two hour maximum. Reservations are available through the Recreation Department and are subject to weather and availability. Other rules and restrictions will apply. Table and Chair Rentals Make your next at home event great with the convenience of renting tables and chairs right in your community. The Dobson Association not only rents out facilities for private rentals but renting of chairs and tables not held on a ranch facility are also available. We can accommodate a rental up to 140 metal framed folding chairs and 15 rectangle 6 foot by 3 foot tables.

The resident must schedule to pick up and drop off the chairs and tables at La Casita Recreation Center. A refundable security deposit of $50 minimum is due in cash or credit card payment to hold your reservation. The rental cost per chair is $0.50 and $5 per table. If a rental request is within 10 business days there will be an expedited fee 2 times the rental amount. Reservations can be made through the Recreation Department at 480-831-7464 and include a 14 day cancellation policy.

Adult tennis Dobson Ranch offers a full-range of programs and playing opportunities for ages 16 plus and ability levels. We focus on developing the complete player who can perform in any match situation at any level. Our tennis pro combines technical, mental and physical elements of the game to help build confidence and conditioning to ensure a positive, successful and fun experience.

Adult Learn to Play These 5 week classes, will introduce the social aspect of the game when groups of players come together to learn at the same time. To teach the skills of tennis to a class, tennis group drills have been formulated. Mixed double matches are played after structured 30min warm up drills to help condition the body for competition.

These drills are meant to be fun and entertaining while also developing the skills of each participating player drills!

Employee of the Month

Meet the New Dobson Ranch Tennis Pro

Robert is a Tucson native who moved to the Phoenix area earlier this year with his wife and three dogs. He started playing tennis at the age of 14, and has enjoyed the game competitively and recreationally ever since.

In 2007, he earned his USTPA certification and is a 4.5 NTRP rated. Over the course of the past 15 years, Robert has coached all ages and playing levels. His experience includes working as a tennis instructor for several leading tennis academies in Tucson, coordinating numerous tennis tournaments, leading group camps and private lessons, as well as coaching at the high school level.

In addition to being the new head tennis pro for Dobson Ranch, Robert is also the orchestra teacher at Mohave Middle School in Scottsdale.

Boat and Fishing Information The weather is perfect for outdoor activities, like ple exam fishing and boating at one of the beautiful lakes at Dobson Ranch. Fishing licenses are required (catch and release only) and boat permits are required for all watercraft (size restrictions apply).

Licenses and Permits may be purchased at La ple m a Casita, 2719 South Reyes. Boat Licenses are $35 x e per motorized boat (electric motors only) and $15 for non-motorized boats and a maximum of 3 permits. Fishing Licenses are $13 for an individual and $30 for a family (up to four).

Dobson Ranch Golf Tournament

It was a cool morning and the sun was rising as the golfers arrived to attend the annual Dobson Ranch golf tournament. The Dobson Ranch Recreation department hosted the event at the beautiful City of Mesa Golf Course. There was a lot of excitement this year, including a hole in one (but not at the big prize hole) and an “oh so close”, to a hole in one! The tournament fee included lunch, a goodie bag and placement prizes. Many thanks also to the wonderful sponsors (see page 17) who helped make the morning a success.

You don’t have to be a pro to participate, just love to play golf, so start thinking about getting a foursome together for next year’s tournament!

Fishing Tournament/Outdoor Expo

Almost 100 children along with their families and friends participated in this year’s Fishing Tournament and Outdoor Expo. The sunny Saturday morning in October was perfect for fishing! A fish tank was stocked with fish for the young fishermen while others fished in the lake. Several vendors were available with goods and services, and Captain Bill gave pontoon boat rides. Thanks to the Dobson Ranch Recreation Department and the Fish Club for another awesome event.

RETIREES SCHEDULE

It is October and fall is here, although the heat is still hanging in there, it is nice in the mornings, nice enough to walk.

Dobson Ranch has some of the nicest walking paths anywhere. We enjoy our walks as we see many of our club friends and neighbors also out enjoying where we live. The roses along the pathways are so well maintained and beautiful. The rose garden is a great place to stop by.

As retirees, we enjoy the many benefits of our club but we need more volunteers to help with dinner night out, happy hour and men’s breakfast. These events take little time and are fun to plan. We try to keep them as close to Mesa as possible to keep the community going strong.

We are also working on a committee to update our by-laws as our clubs grows ever bigger and stronger, we would also like to take part more in the community so any suggestions would be helpful. Volunteering is a great way to get involved.

Our club offers a general meeting, which is held on the first Monday of the month at La Casita (unless it is a holiday then it is held on the second Monday at La Casita), after which lunch is served. On the first Thursday is game day, come and play.

On the second Thursday is Ladies lunch, always fun! Dinner night is the third Tuesday, again more fun. Movie day is the last Thursday of the month and happy hour is the last Wednesday of the month. Men’ breakfast is on the third Monday of the month. Whew and if that is not enough: In the fall, when the weather is cooler, we hike and bike throughout the week and Day Trippers with day trips to interesting locations throughout the valley.

The Fall Festival is coming up also on November 19th from 12:00-3:00 at Laguna Park, the retirees will have a booth with hotdogs and brats, potato chips and drinks. Please stop by and see us and join the fun.

All of this for $20.00 a year! That is 12 lunches, What a bargain. Our retirees club is a great place to get together and meet new friends.

The Dobson Pavement Pounders promotes running, walking and friendships in the Dobson Ranch and surrounding neighborhoods.

Whether you are a recreational walker, novice runner or advanced marathoner, this club offers support, weekly meetings and fellowship, afterwards, to keep you motivated and moving.

Currently, we meet in the Parking lot of Bisbee Breakfast Club at 7 a.m.

Saturday and 7 p.m. Wednesday. The location is on the corner of Guadalupe and Dobson at 2909 S. Dobson Rd. On Saturdays, we enjoy coffee at Bisbee’s after finishing our routes. The Women’s Club is a great place to meet your neighbors and make long lasting friendships. All adults who are current or previous residents of Dobson Ranch, and their guests, are welcome to attend any of our events/programs.

General Meetings are held on the 4th Tuesday of the month at 7PM at La Casita. On October 25th our guest speaker is Master Docent Sherry Koopot, from the Phoenix Art Museum. She will present - “From Sea to Shining Sea - the beauty of the American landscape and the pride of our country.”

Years before the camera was invented, artists painted pictures and wrote music describing America’s landscapes. This presentation showcases America from coast to coast, in painting and includes some themed music.

Out to Lunch – Our group meets in local restaurants on the first Friday of the month. In September we went to Cheddar’s in Chandler.

We surprised Elaine Bohr with an Orchid and Bamboo plant following her recent surgery.

Bunco - Patricia Prosek held the Annual Hawaiian Bunco in August. She transformed her home and made delicious Island food, while Lynda Bailey provided the dessert. Tuesday, November 1 7:00 pm at La Casita Growing Paper Whites Dreaming of a White Christmas? Add some white accents to your holiday decorating with paper whites (narcissus) bulbs. Paper whites are easypeasy. They can be planted in water or soil. They can be forced inside or grown in the garden.

At the Tuesday, November 1 Garden Club meeting, scheduled at 7:00 p.m. at La Casita, several Garden Club members led by wellknown floral designer Donna Chapman, will demonstrate how to grow paper whites. The presentation will include examples of the types of containers to use for these fragrant flowers. Members will be potting up these bulbs to show how they use them during the holiday season.

There will also be information on amaryllis and muscari bulbs.

Come join the “plant” demonstration to add these flowers to your holiday festivities. The Ranch Garden Club is open to all residents and their guests. There is no charge to attend. It is an informal gathering for those who enjoy the beauty of gardens and plants.

Halloween is one of the most fun holidays but it can present some dangers as well.

The main concerns is of course ingestion of chocolate or candy. Chocolate is actually one of the most common causes of pet poisoning. It is so dangerous because it contains cocoa beans which has both caffeine and a chemical compound called theobromide. Eating chocolate can result in tremors, increased heart rate, seizures, respiratory failure and cardiac arrest. If your pet does happen to get in to the trick-ortreat bag it is important to seek medical attention right away.

Ghosts and goblins are not the only scary things lurking about on Halloween! Pets can become frightened by all of the new sounds, smells and kids dressed in costume. Also having the front door open and close a lot for the trick-or-treaters can sometimes cause anxiety. Keep anxious pets in a kennel or quiet, secluded bedroom to minimize the risk of an anxious friend darting out the door.

Feline fur-babies should be kept inside as well! There is a lot of foot traffic that night (and car traffic as well, everyone has to find the best candy neighborhood) and cats can feel threatened and could travel farther from home than they are comfortable. Take special care with black cats! Poor black kitties have gotten a bad rap ever since some Celtic Druids told everyone that witches can shape-shift in to the form of black cats.

G.A.I.N. (Getting Arizona Involved in Neighborhoods) is a statewide annual event designed to encourage Neighborhood Watch programs and bring together communities throughout Mesa for a common goal -- to let criminals know that citizens of Mesa are seriously united in the fight against criminal activity. This is a time to turn on your porch lights, go out into your neighborhood, and get to know your neighbors.

Dobson High to Host State Marching Band Festival

Dobson High School, in partnership with ABODA, the Arizona Band and Orchestra Directors Association, holds its State Marching Band Festival this November. This is the second consecutive year that the event is being held at Dobson.

Taking place in the football stadium Saturday, November 5, this all-day competition will showcase some of the most talented marching bands in Arizona.

Each school must earn their spot in this event by scoring high during competitions held around the state during September and October.

The 10 highest-scoring bands in each division will move on to compete in the state finals competition.

Approximately 50 bands and 10,000 people are expected to attend, including several prominent Valley high schools. Bands will perform themed shows incorporating innovative props and colorful visuals into their music.

Bring your family and friends and join us for a day of music and spectacle. Several vendors will be there selling food, drinks, treats, and gifts throughout the day.

Renovation Underway at Dobson Ranch Park The City of Mesa began work on Dobson Ranch Park, replacing the 20-year-old playground equipment with new features, specifically designed for children with physical, cognitive and sensory disabilities.

Construction began in September to create accessible play areas which will include swings, zip lines and much more. The $700,000 project will create a safe and comfortable place for all children to play.

The Dobson Ranch Park was chosen for the overhaul because of it’s size and popularity within the community.

Mesa Community College Unveils Fall 2016 Arts Season

Mesa to Honor Veterans with Parade and Benefit Concert

Mesa Community College proudly announces its Fall 2016 Arts season. Performances and exhibitions feature up-and-coming student artists and renowned craft masters.

Performances and exhibitions and are presented in masterfully designed venues on MCC’s Southern and Dobson campus (1833 W. Southern Ave.). The Performing Arts Center delivers exceptional acoustics and visibility for musical, instrumental and dance performances.

Mesa will honor veterans with the annual East Valley Veterans Parade Friday, Nov. 11. The parade in downtown Mesa will begin promptly at 11 a.m. with many veteran and military themed activities including the Fallen Soldier Memorial. As many as six high school marching bands are expected in addition to historic military vehicles and local entries.

The parade will begin at Center Street and 6th Place/Athletics Way, travel south on Center Street and turn west on First Street. The parade will continue on First Street to Robson where it will end.

A free Veterans’ Benefit Concert will be held immediately following the parade at the Mesa Arts Center. • MCC Performing Arts Jazz Ensemble (MPJE). Concert performance Dec. 13 at 7 p.m.

Mesa Community Colleges Hosts Empty Bowls Event The community is encouraged to help fight hunger by supporting the Empty Bowls art charity event, hosted by Mesa Community College (MCC). Proceeds will benefit Paz de Cristo Community Center which provides anti-hunger and empowerment support for the East Valley’s homeless, unemployed, working poor and their families.

For a minimum $10 donation patrons may select a one-of-a-kind ceramic bowl handcrafted by a local artist and dine on a simple meal.
