Happy Fall! I like this time of year, this year in particular, we have a great deal happening!

Our Annual Golf Tournament just wrapped up - it was a huge success. If you missed it keep it in mind for next year. It’s a fun way to get out and enjoy the cooling down weather, it was a beautiful morning. There was fierce competition among friends, with the purchase of mulligans to ensure an advantage. Congratulations to Derek Herndon, Dan Bigelow, Mike Keller and Ryan Hughes for taking first place in the tournament.

It’s hard to believe but preparation for the 2016 Board of Directors elections is already underway. Volunteering as a board member is a time consuming commitment, yet super rewarding. As with many of our volunteer positions there is a minimum time commitment (preparing for the Board of Directors meetings and attending the monthly meeting).

However, many of our Board of Directors chose to volunteer even more of their time chairing committees and participating in Association sponsored events. Board members often are involved with the committee meetings, clubs, working with the City of Mesa, and recreation events.

The board members involvement with other volunteers helps them prepare for the monthly meetings, keeping a pulse on the community.

Please check out the article on page 4 regarding being a Board of Director and look for more information on the 2016 election in upcoming Round Ups. Many Board projects have come to fruition recently…please check out our revamped website. The Member Services / Marketing Committee has spent considerable time working on implementing our new website … it is up! Please check it out at dobsonranchhoa.com.

The committees’ goal was a user-friendly experience, a modern look, with increased functionality. We think they succeeded! It presents a clean look and an easy to use experience. My favorite part of the site are the photo albums showcasing our events and the great community involvement of our residents.

This month, join the Fishing Club at the Outdoor Expo on October 17 at 7am located at Los Altos. This is a great event for all, including little ones. Kids will have fun catching their own fish. If you don’t have a pole for them, that’s okay, the Fishing Club will have some on hand for them to use during the event. While you’re there, visit with local vendors, take a boat ride or enjoy a stroll by the lake.

Our Fall Festival is right around the corner, Saturday November 14, Laguna Park from 1pm – 4pm, please join us! Last year was a fantastic time. There is a lot crammed into 3 hours: music, food trucks, a beer garden, games, contests, vendor displays, and of course the chili cook off; this was a huge hit. Last year was the first cook off and we hope that this year is even bigger. Attendees loved critiquing the various chili entries. Based on feedback we are adding wine tasting to the afternoon, stop by the beer garden to check out this addition. Enjoy the weather and come join us at all of the Association events – hope to see you out there!

Board Highlights

I called the September 17, 2015 Dobson Ranch Homeowners Association Board of Directors meeting to order at 7:00 pm. It was an excellent meeting, here’s a recap…

I gave the President’s Report, reporting that at the August board meeting we, the board, approved the following vision statement, “Dobson Ranch, one of Arizona’s first planned communities, has a proud and established reputation. With classic neighborhood charm and a vibrant atmosphere, it is a beautiful sustainable community located in the heart of the East Valley. The Dobson Association will continue to lead the way by making Dobson Ranch the premier community of choice.” The vision is a way to measure how we should vote as the board. I challenged everyone at the meeting to see how the agenda items deliberated and decided upon that night measured up to the vision statement.

This month I was asked to speak at the Retirees Club meeting. It was great to share with them all we have accomplished this year and what is on the horizon. The new magazine had arrived just before their meeting so I was able to pass it out-- they loved it. This is something we all should be proud of. It was discussed several years ago and to see it come to fruition is amazing.

Executive Director, David Jones gave his Director’s Report, Association business and reported on all of the upcoming events: Golf Tournament on October 3; Garage Sale, Clean Up, and Shred on October 10; Kids Fishing Tournament and Outdoor Expo October 17; and the Spooktacular October 23.

I reported on behalf of the Member Services Committee, the new website is done and will go live by the end of September. Thank you to the Board for supporting this project and to the staff and committee who spent countless hours on the site.

Treasurer Stacy Holmstedt, reviewed the financial highlights and variance report.

Bob Radisich spoke for the Master Planning Committee. The committee will met later this month.

It’s the middle of October and it’s time to ponder the big question… what will I be for Halloween?!? If you attended the Halloween Spooktacular last year you will remember that I was the witch with the glistening gold hair. Come find me this year on Friday, October 23rd at Laguna Park and I will have a treat for you! It might be harder to find me than you think… this event brings out the scariest, cutest and most unique gathering of costumes you have ever seen. Bring your family, friends and all the kids for an evening that will include: food trucks, a costume contest, games, inflatables, pumpkin parade, candy and a movie to close out the night. It all starts at 5:30, so mark your calendars!

While you have those calendars out be sure to save the date for Saturday, November 14 from 1 to 4 pm, as Laguna Park hosts the Dobson Ranch Fall Festival. Do you have a great chili recipe? Sign up for the popular chili cook-off by November 2nd and compete for prizes. That’s not all… there will be a lot packed into those three hours: live music by Lane Change, food trucks, vendors, a beer garden, pontoon rides, games, contests and fun for all ages!

Assessment Reminder 2015 Assessment Quarterly is $138.60 Semi-annual is $277.20 Annually is $554.40

Assessments are due on the first of each quarter.

A late fee of $30 will be charged quarterly if your payment is not received by the 20th of the first month of each quarter (January, April, July and October). Delinquent interest will accrue on any unpaid balance.

If you are interested in paying your assessment monthly through ACH (auto debit to your checking account) please complete the form found in the Documents and Forms tab of our website and return to the administrative office along with a voided check. ACH payments are run on the 5th of each month.

There are several other options for paying your assessments: 1) Annual or Quarterly payments can be made by check, cash, debit or credit card. Please be sure to include your payment coupon when mailing your payment in. You can make a one-time payment on our website if paying by debit or credit card.

2) For recurring payments using a debit or credit card, there is a processing site that you can access from the Dobson Association web page located at www.dobsonranchhoa.com. Scroll down and click on the Assessment Payment Portal.

3) You may send in monthly recurring payments if using your automatic bill pay. You will have to set up the payment online through your bill pay program. Please be sure to include your account number and property address to ensure proper credit to your account.

Things to Know Board Meeting Want to know what is going on in the Association, meet the Board members, sign up for a committee, get to know your Ranch neighbors or voice an opinion? You can do all that at Dobson Ranch Board of Directors meetings. Meetings are held on Thursdays at 7 pm at La Casita in the Grande room. The next dates are, October 15, November 19 and December 17. All members are encouraged to attend. For more information please call 480831-8314.

Holiday Hours The Dobson Ranch Administrative office will be closed November 11 for Veterans Day and all Recreation facilities will be open from 10 am – 6 pm. Thursday, November 26 Administration and Recreation will be closed for the Thanksgiving Holiday. Friday, November 27 Administration will be closed and all Recreation facilities will be open from 10 am – 6 pm.

Splash Pad Closing LAST REMINDER… splash pad will be closing for the season on November 2, so come splash around for a little longer at La Casita!

SRP Dry-up The SRP lake dry-up will begin November 20 and last until mid January. During this time maintenance is performed on the lake shelves.

New Dobson Ranch Website is Live

The Arizona Municipal Water Users Association, AMWUA for short, is one of the bright spots in the field of water conservation. This organization is made possible by the City of Mesa and several of the other communities in the Valley of the Sun. AMWUA creates a lot of the nifty stuff I get to look through to bring to the attention of Dobson Ranch residents. Here is one such webpage: Their article continues: If you think the water-using fixtures are off in your home, guess again.

Check the meter and if it continues to run, even a little, the problem is likely inside your home or with a pool or spa; never the irrigation system. Here are two common interior problems.

Toilet: When it comes to interior leaks, your toilet is the most likely suspect. The City of Mesa has drops of dye to put in a toilet’s tank and turn the water blue. If the blue water then appears in the bowl, your toilet is leaking. The main culprits: flappers and fill valves.

The flapper valve is a rubber piece that seals the tank shut and opens when you pull the handle to flush. If it gets warped or isn’t sealing properly, the tank leaks. Then there is the fill valve in your tank that keeps the water level constant. If the fill valve malfunctions, the water level increases and extra water goes down an overflow tube and into the toilet bowl instead of onto your bathroom floor. While you are avoiding a flood, you are paying for water that does nothing but flow into the toilet and out your sewer line. Visit the Water Management Committee table at the October 17 Outdoor Expo and pickup a dye kit.

Water softener: Check for signs that the recharge valve on your water softener has malfunctioned and the system is recharging far too often or continually. Once again, that means you are paying for water flowing in and out of your home without serving any purpose. Your recharge system uses about one gallon per minute. If it runs non-stop for thirty days that can raise your water use by 43,200 gallons.

In the online site hosted by AMWUA’s #SmartPig, is a step-by-step guide that allows one to conduct their own water audit. The guide is easy to use via a phone or tablet and one can check out one system at a time when it’s convenient. A 24-page Smart Home Water Guide booklet also is available – in English or Spanish – again at the October 17 Outdoor Expo.

Do I Have What It Takes?

BOD Candidacy Do you have suggestions on how to improve the Ranch community?

Have a plan to make the Ranch a better place to live? Then consider running as a candidate for the 2016 Dobson Ranch board of directors. If you’re considering running for the board, we ask that you take a few moments to ask yourself the following three questions: Do I have the time?

As a board member, you will need to devote at least several hours of your time each month to association business. In addition to regular monthly board meetings, you will need to be active in email discussions and occasional special meetings. During special projects, you may need to spend a little extra time on association business. Some board members may also spend a little more time than others if they work with a committee.

Can I make tough decisions when it’s required?

The primary role of the board is to conduct the business of the association. This doesn’t just mean approving the budget, but also developing and enforcing policies. Board members are required to step outside their immediate circle of family and neighbors and make decisions based on the greater good of the community.

Can I do all this and have fun, too?

It isn’t all about policies and tough decisions. Our community is only as good as we make it, and establishing and maintaining a sense of community is a part of a board member’s responsibility. Planning and attending functions such as our boat parade and being a presence in the community are as important as any policy decisions you may make.

Being a board member can be frustrating at times, but it may also be one of the most rewarding ways you’ll find to volunteer your time. If you’re interested in running for the board or would like more details about board’s responsibilities, please contact the Administration office at 480-831-8314.

Green Thumb Awards

There are a couple expressions that definitely apply to this month’s green thumb winners. First, “neat as a pin”, can describe these meticulously landscaped front yards. Both homes have a completely different style, but with either gravel or grass their appearance comes across as “pretty as a picture”. Overseeding to Begin in October

Laverne Harris makes my neighborhood better by so many things!! She is the best neighbor we ever had! She always is looking after our home and us. If she sees there is a box at the main door and she knows we are away, she makes sure that the box doesn’t stay in the front so people don’t realize we are gone. When our landscape keeper changed his truck, she took a photo and sent it to me by text to confirm it belonged somebody authorized to be in our backyard.

She lets us use her refrigerator when we have parties. She is awesome! Thank you Laverne!

If you are new to the Ranch community, you may have noticed that the landscape crew is mowing the common area lawns right down to the ground. This is the first step in getting ready to plant a winter lawn. Since the Bermuda grass and hybrid lawns planted in Valley residences, businesses and golf courses dies back in the winter, we are able to have beautiful green lawns to enjoy during our mild winters if we overseed with Perennial Ryegrass. Usually during the first two weeks of October when night time temperatures are steadily below 65 degrees, rye grass seed will germinate and flourish.

Here are six easy steps to greening your environment: 1. Stop watering your Bermuda lawn.

2. After a week mow the lawn as low as your mower can be set, usually 1/4 to 1/2 inch. Since you need to pick up all the clippings, it is often easier to mow in several passes while lowering the settings between each pass.

3. Spread the seed evenly at the rate of 1.0 to 1.25 pounds per 100 square feet (10 foot by 10 foot area). To insure even coverage walk North and South and then East and West while spreading.

4. Spread a starter fertilizer, such as, 6-20-20 over the seed bed, usually at a rate of ½ pound per 100 square feet. Read manufacturer’s recommendation for the brand you buy. Some folks like to put a topper or mulch over the seed bed to help retain moisture but it is not required.

5. Water. Since you want to keep the top ½ inch of soil moist for the first couple of weeks, set your controller for 2 to 3 minutes watering, 4 to 5 times a day. Water can then be turned back to 5 minute watering cycles, 2 to 3 times a day. After your second mowing, reduce watering to 10 to 12 minutes once a day.

6. Fertilize once a month with a 21-7-14 fertilizer and supplemental iron and keep lawn mower height at about 2 inches.

At our heavy traffic areas, such as, Laguna Park we will also aerate before seeding. This involves running a machine over the area that makes holes in the soil and allows air to penetrate and loosen the soil.

We will also pull a weighted roller over the seed bed to make sure the seed has contact with the soil for maximum germination. This year we will be overseeding all the common lawn areas except Frisbee Park and the retention basins near Lindner and Playa. In these areas we plan to apply a preventative weed control which prevents seeds both weed and grass from germinating which, in turn, will provide a better Bermuda lawn next summer.

Halloween Safety Tips • Eat a full meal prior to going out so he/she won’t be tempted to eat treats before they can be properly checked out. Tell your children not to eat treats until you have checked them out.

• Plan your child’s route and visit only homes in your neighborhood that are well lighted.

• Travel in a group or with an adult; never enter a home.

• Carry a flashlight or glow stick.

• Cross streets at corners, never from between two vehicles.

• When crossing a street, STOP, LOOK and LISTEN. Look both ways before crossing.

• Walk on the sidewalk or facing traffic if there are no sidewalks.

• Watch for cars driving into or backing out of driveways.

• Choose light or bright colored costumes and use light reflective tape.

• Put the child’s name, address and phone number on the inside of their costume in case of an accident or lost child.

• Remember, Halloween is a good time for dangerous strangers, so be careful.

• Don’t play pranks. Damaging other peoples’ property is a crime.

• If any problems arise, call the Mesa Police Department at (480) 644-2211.

Thank you to all who participated in the 2015 Dobson Ranch Golf Tournament. Congratulations to Derek Herndon, Dan Bigelow, Mike Keller and Ryan Hughes for taking 1st place. The golf event was a great success again this year. Don’t forget about our upcoming October events! There is our Fishing Tournament and Outdoor Expo on Saturday, October 17th at 7 am at Los Altos. I want to send a special thanks to the fishing club for helping run this great event. We also have our Halloween event coming up on Friday, October 23rd. This event includes fun for the whole family with carnival games, a pumpkin parade and movie in the park. Come enjoy all that we have to offer and be a part of the “Howlin’ Good Halloween Night”. We hope to see you all at Laguna Park for some family fun. Lastly, Fall Festival is right around the corner on November 14th. The park celebration starts at 1 pm at Laguna Park. We are still looking for Chili Cook-off Contestants and vendors for the festival. We will be having delicious food from local food trucks such as Kruzin Cuisine and Mustache Pretzels. There will also be bounce houses, carnival games, beer tasting from Sleepy Dog Brewery, the Chili Cook-off, vendors, and live music from Lane Change. Ms. Jessi’s Corner Is it safe to go outdoors yet?! I don’t know about you, but I am so ready for fall weather! Fall is one of my favorite seasons. I love the colors, the smells, foods and decorations. This month in preschool we will be working on many fall activities. Investigating acorns and pinecones, weighing, measuring and dissecting pumpkins and decorating the classroom with festive fall art. Below you will find a fun, easy and ADORABLE craft you can do with something you’d find in your own backyard (or maybe your neighbors). Don’t forget to stop by the preschool table during the Dobson Ranch Halloween Spooktacular and say hello!

Pinecone Owl Materials Needed: Pinecone Batting or Cotton Balls Google Eyes Pipe cleaner Felt Glue I like to find pinecones that do not have the sharp points and have a good spacing in between each scale. Using a pencil stuff cotton balls or pieces of batting all around your cone. After it looks good to you, glue on eyes and a little beak with a bit of pipe cleaner. I used white felt to make wings, but any type of fabric will work. Glue those to the sides of your owl. You can make a whole family of them and set them up around some fall colored leaves and pumpkins and you have yourself a darling centerpiece! They also make fun homemade toys for your children to play with.

Dobson Ranch Pontoon Tour/Ride Information • A one-time “complimentary” pontoon ride per property is available to residents.

• Usage of the pontoon boat is available to residents in good standing. Residency and Homeowners insurance verification must be provided. Payment is required at the time of reservation.

• Reservations should be made seven days in advanced and are subject to staff availability.

• Cancellation is subject to a fee if made less than 72 hours in advance.

• Tour fee is $35 per hour with a two hour maximum.

• Capacity is up to 10 guests whether adults or children. A certified operator will be provided by the association. Children under 14 must be accompanied and supervised by an adult. Children under the age of 8 are required to wear a life vest at all times.

Only five children under 8 will be permitted on boat at one time for safety.

• Food and beverages are permitted in non-breakable containers.

You will be responsible for clean-up and damage if any.

• Smoking is not permitted aboard the pontoon boat for the enjoyment of all guests, most of all safety.

• Pets are not permitted.

• Fishing is not permitted while the pontoon is under way.

• Guests are required to remain seated during the tour. Also directions given by the Captain must be followed.

• Management reserves the right to cancel any reservation.

All reservations are subject to weather conditions and maintenance.

Table and Chair Rentals Make your next at home event great with the convenience of renting tables and chairs right in your community. The Dobson Association not only rents out facilities for private rentals but renting of chairs and tables not held on a ranch facility are also available. We can accommodate a rental up to 140 metal framed folding chairs and 15 rectangle 6 foot by 3 foot tables. The resident must schedule to pick up and drop off the chairs and tables at La Casita Recreation Center.

A refundable security deposit of $50 is due in cash or credit card payment to hold your reservation. The rental cost per chair is $0.50 and $5 per table.

Hello to all Dobson Ranch tennis ghosts and goblins, get ready for our first Halloween tennis social Halloween day, October 31, Saturday morning at 8 AM. Residents and guests are invited, but hurry and sign up, because space is limited.

Call Recreation at 480-831-7464 to get signed up and make sure you give them your level of play, A, B, or C. Food and beverages will be included. We will have bagels, juice, coffee ice water and Halloween candy. You can work off the calories by playing some awesome round robin doubles and mixed doubles. The most important thing is that you wear a costume. Dress up as your favorite tennis player, past or present (costume is actually optional, but encouraged). We will also be playing a round of tennis with wooden tennis rackets, so if you have a wooden racket hanging in the garage please bring it for this social. I will be providing some wooden racquets as well. That’s about it, as far as the social goes, just remember that space is limited and this October social fills up fast, so make sure to register today. It’s going to be a scary-fun time and I can’t wait to see you all out there!

LANE CHANGE LANE CHANGE began in 2013 when four eclectic musicians came together for the one thing they had in common at the time, their passion for music and performing. This passion would later serve as the vehicle that has now allowed a guitar teacher, a bank teller, a vocal instructor, and a high school student to arrive at a destination that was previously only a dream.

Recreation Happenings Dobson Ranch Golf Tournament

It was a cool morning and the sun was rising as 111 golfers arrived to attend the annual Dobson Ranch golf tournament. The Dobson Ranch Recreation department hosted the event at the beautiful City of Mesa Golf Course. Many thanks also to the wonderful sponsors who helped make the morning a success.

1st Place

Winning first place with a score of 54 was the team of Derek Herndon, Dan Bigelow, Mike Keller and Ryan Hughes

2nd Place

Second place went to Doug Bacon, Shane Bacon, Andrew Omer and Ashdon Speith. The team score was 56.

Individual prizes went to Brian Peters for the Long Putt, Nora Frisch for the Women’s Long Drive, Sean Dunn for the Men’s Long Drive, Linda Macias for the Women’s Closest to the Pin, and Derek Hernden for the Men’s Closest to the Pin. The tournament fee included lunch, a goodie bag and placement prizes. You don’t have to be a pro to participate, just love to play golf, so start thinking about getting a foursome together for next year’s tournament!

On behalf of Dick Krouse, president of the Dobson Ranch Retiree’s Club; I would like to extend a big welcome home to all who traveled during the summer months.

We will resume our regular meetings held on the first Monday of the month at La Casita at 9:30 am. It is at our regular meetings that we sign up for monthly activities which cover broad interest/physical exertion levels. We have so many activities that meet everyone’s interest and activity level that it’s sometimes hard to make a choice. And that’s the reason we do not schedule more than one activity per day. Sometimes you have to really have to ask yourself, should I go to the dentist? Or doctor? Or go hiking or biking?? Should I go on a diet or go to the monthly Dinner Out, or Ladies Lunch, or Men’s breakfast?? Should I go hiking or biking and go to the movies? Should I stay home and clean the house or play board games? Should I go shopping or go on the monthly day trip? Should I be a couch potato or go out with the Happy Hour group.

Most of us will make wise choices for the month’s activities and choose many things to do. With all of time spent together we have formed many caring and supportive friends. We share information, have peer support/ pressure when needed, and most of all a lot of fun and laughs. We share our talents with HOA activities such as the Santa’s pancake breakfast and Halloween activities. We have contributed to local schools and non-profits organizations such as food bank, veteran’s socks, eye glass donations, etc.

I am Lucille Willgale, vice president of the Dobson Ranch Retirees club and Coordinator of the Dinner Out Group. I volunteered to write this for Dick Krouse this month.

Don and I joined Dobson Retirees four years ago and would recommend this active and social group to all Dobson Ranch retired residents.

RETIREES SCHEDULE GENERAL MEETING November’s monthly meeting will be on Monday, November 2nd, at the La Casita Recreation Center. Coffee at 9:30AM and the meeting will begin at 10:00AM. Lunch will be served after the meeting and program.

Guests and prospective new members are welcome to attend.

BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING The Club’s Board of Directors will meet on Monday, October 19th at La Casita. The meeting will begin at 9AM and all officers, activity leaders and activity chairs should plan on attending. The slate of nominees for our 2016 officers will be presented at this meeting. November’s Board meeting will be on Monday, November 16th.

DINNER NIGHT OUT Our October dinner night is Tuesday, October 20th at Pier De Orleans located at 61 E. University Dr. in Mesa. BICYCLE RIDING With the return of cooler weather the Retirees Club will resume their weekly bike rides, with Arnie Chase again planning and leading both weekly bike rides. Arnie has the riding schedule already planned out for the 2015-16 season.

The Dobson Retirees plan weekly hikes throughout the greater Phoenix Metro area every Wednesday at 8AM. Pictured is one of last year’s hikes in the Superstition Mountains.

The first ride of the season will be the SLO SPOKES ride, set for Friday, October 30th. Meet at 9AM at the Dobson Library for a 10-12 mile ride with a refreshment stop.

The FREE WHEELERS bike riders will meet for the first time on Tuesday, November 3rd. at 8AM at the Dobson Library. The Free Wheelers normally plan rides of 20 to 25 miles with a refreshment stop. Fishing Club

By Ed Ricci Here comes the Fall! As day lengths shorten and water temperatures drop, the fish move into a more active feeding pattern. Fishing will be good into the winter.

The lakes are a beautiful green- meaning rich phytoplankton production. This is suspended microscopic plant plankton which feeds the animal plankton which is called zooplankton. We watch the lakes to make sure we don’t have a significant emergence of filamentous algae- which we typically address by putting dye in the lakes. So far- so good.

The big news is that by the publishing of this article, the Kid’s Fishing Tournament on October 17 has already been accomplished. I know- a grand day for sure.

Some Ranch gardeners travel from the Valley during summer months and visit gardens in cooler areas. At the Tuesday, November 3 Garden Club meeting, which begins at 7:00 p.m. at La Casita, we will “visit” the Dow Gardens in Midland, Michigan. Nancy Roberts, a longtime Ranch Garden Club member, will take us on a tour of the Gardens which she visited during her summer stay in Michigan.

The Dow Gardens were started in l899 by Herbert Dow, founder of the Dow Chemical Company. The Gardens, which were originally developed on eight acres, now encompass 110 acres. When Dow started his work, he had a simple philosophy that is still a gardening principle today: “never reveal the gardens’ whole beauty at first glance.”

Come enjoy the beauty of the Dow Gardens at the November 3 meeting. The meeting is open to all Ranch residents and their guests.

Kiwanis Club Forming at Dobson Ranch Kiwanis, a service organization, is celebrating 100 years of “Serving the Children” in 2015. Dobson High Key Club is a vibrant student service club yielding young leaders year after year.

Whether it is university level, high school, middle schools or elementary schools, Kiwanis sponsors clubs for all youth to grow in leadership and community service.

Yes, there once was a Kiwanis club in Dobson Ranch. A new concept in Kiwanis is directed towards the Young Professional who wishes to give a little time and energy back to the community they so enjoy and live or work within. A Kiwanis club could serve many purposes for Dobson Ranch residents and business people. It’s almost like an extended family who pool their idea resources, trade friendships, identify with youth of the community and provide unique service where needed.

Pets Can Get Valley Fever Too!

Dust storms, haboobs, and overall monsoon storms can spread infectious diseases that can pose a potential health risk to your beloved companion. The most common disease is coccidiomycosis, which is also called Valley Fever. Fungal spores carried on the wind can infect a pet (and people) with Valley Fever in many different ways.

Valley Fever can: • Infect the lungs causing a cough.

• Infect the bones causing a limp.

• Infect the internal organ function causing further infection or damage.

• Increase temperature.

• Decrease appetite and cause lethargy.

They only way to check for Valley Fever is by having your veterinarian test your pet’s blood. It is a condition that is treatable with daily medication, but early detection is key. Contact your local Veterinarian if you have further questions/concerns about Valley Fever.

Dobson High School Band Dobson High School Band has been selected to host the ABODA 2015 Division I State Marching Band Festival on November 7, 2015.

Over 25 amazing high school marching bands will be competing for one of ten spots in the 2015 State Marching Championships.

The event runs from 9 am – 9 pm and will be held in the Dobson High School Mustang Stadium. Tickets are $10 per person at the gate and this event is open to the general public. Concession stands will be open with proceeds to benefit the Dobson Band Program.

Dobson High Football Senior Night October 23rd 6pm Dobson High School’s Fall Sports Senior Night Ceremony will be held October 23rd on the football field at 6pm prior to kickoff of that night’s game. For this event, all DHS Seniors participating in Fall sports and their parents/guardians are invited to gather on the field and be introduced to the crowd in processional format (similar to graduation).

During this event, families are permitted to create a poster for their student-athlete and hang the poster on the chain link fence facing the field.

The Dobson Association to be Represented in the East Valley Veterans Parade This year, the East Valley Veterans Parade Association will have their annual parade on Veterans Day, Nov. 11, and Dobson Ranch will participate by entering a float. Come out and support the Association and give an extra cheer as our float passes by!

New Date and New Route for East Valley Veterans Parade in Downtown Mesa For the past two years, the East Valley Veterans Parade in downtown Mesa has been held on the Saturday preceding Veterans Day. This year, the East Valley Veterans Parade Association will return to holding the parade on Veterans Day, Nov. 11.

In addition to the date change, the route for the parade has been changed in an effort to improve the areas available for spectators to view the event.

The parade will begin at the intersection of Center Street and University Drive and will travel south on Center Street and turn west on First Street.

The parade will continue on First Street to Robson where it will end. This route offers wide, tree-lined streets for the entire length of the parade and will be easily accessible for all.

The East Valley Veterans Parade will begin promptly at 11 a.m. with many veteran and military themed activities including the Fallen Soldier Memorial. As many as six high school marching bands are expected in addition to historic military vehicles and local entries.

Downtown Mesa Music Festival The inaugural Mesa Music Festival will be held on November 12 -15th, 2015 with both indoor and outdoor stages on Main Street in downtown Mesa.
