City Councillors’ News
by TheDever
Winchester City Council has started to respond to our campaign for improvements to the Planning Enforcement service. For many months, little progress has been made on the increasing number of enforcement cases around the district, including many in our Ward. Finally, the parish councils have received an up-to-date list of cases in each parish and the initial steps to normalise the use of pitches on Carousel Park has started. As a result, Planning Contravention Notices – the next essential step in enforcement – have been sent to landowners.
We welcome the indication from the City Council that the new Local Plan will not take up Option 3 – the allocation of land for new towns at Micheldever Station and Royaldown. We will continue to press for this option to be excluded from the new Local Plan as well as others allowing inappropriate development in the countryside.

Work is now complete on another phase of the cyclepath to link South Wonston and Harestock. The improvements to the surface on Lower Road from the pavilion to the old Cloudbank stables will make it easier for children to walk and cycle to school. We hope that more use will now be made of the “Park and Stride” site at the pavilion to reduce the congestion along Downs Road.
The City Council is coordinating Greener Future funding to support businesses and community organisations that want to make Winchester a greener district, including projects to improve transport, energy use/production, energy consumption in properties and help change behaviours. Matched funding grants of up to £2,000 are available along with advice on fundraising and project scope. Please contact one of us or the City Council direct for more details.

South Wonston PC – Monday 8th November at South Wonston Pavilion.
